"The minstrel boy to the war is gone, in the ranks of death you'll find him~♪" It was an old song, set to a nostalgic tune that echoed softly through the park. "His father's sword he hath girded on and his wild harp slung behind him~♫" With words set to English, an Irish air that seemed both out of place and at home in such a far off land. "Land of song, said the warrior-bard, though all the world betrays thee~♪" The singer's eyes closed as she went through the lyrics, she didn't seem to be paying attention to anything else other than the song, and the soft music that sounded vaguely of a piano that echo'd through thin air, as the strands of the ethelite strung out through the area shimmered in the noonday sun. "One sword at least thy right shall guard, one faithful harp shall praise thee..." |

Matt enjoyed the park. It was a calm place. Not a lot of people went through it at all times, and best of all, there wasn't any confusing technology here. While he was here, he didn't have to worry about the idea of little people running around playing sports inside a glass box, or of people holding up little mirrors to their face to talk with people who may have been miles away. He didn't have to think about World Wars, the interplay of global superpowers, the internet. Here, he could just lose himself in thoughts of a time that had long since passed, and the simple pleasures of just being around more simple-minded creatures. For example, there was the anthill he was currently crouched over. The one-eyed Homunculus was simply staring at them, watching them go about their business in their own orderly way. He placed a few stale crumbs onto the ground near the hole, watching as the insects inspected and then claimed the small bits of food before he placed a few more pieces for them to concern themselves over. It was while he was doing this that he heard the singing. Most other times, the Homunculus would have ignored it. But he knew this song. He would sit for a moment, simply listening for a couple of lines before getting up and going closer to the voice. He would be able to see the girl singing as she got to the end of the first part of the song. It was at that point the Homunculus would join in, singing in English as well. "The Minstrel fell, but foeman's chain could not bring his proud soul under. The harp he loved ne'er spoke again, for he tore its chords asunder. He said 'No chains shall sully thee, thou soul of love and bravery! "Thy songs were made for the pure and free. They shall never sound in slavery..."" His singing voice certainly wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't bad either. He could probably be a decent tenor with some actual training. However, his voice began to crack at the end. If Misae looked at him, it would be easy to tell why. He was crying. Not full on blubbering, but there were no mistaking the tears that were running down his cheek. The Homunculus would sniff, quickly rubbing at his face with a sleeve. "Sorry Lass. Had a fit of nostalgia there, forgive me." |

"Not at all." she replied, still in English. She even sounded English. The sort you learned at a university, or came from a well to do family. "I think it suits the times, considering recent events, don't you think?" The events of the previous day were still fresh in everyone's memory. Attacks by some of the most vaunted supporters of the city. Loss of life. A thorough destruction that for once, ended with the perpetrators getting away cleanly. Her fingers tapped through the air, and the echoes of the music continued to sound about the trees as if an invisible piano existed in the space about them. Rather, it sounded somewhere between a guitar and a piano, but not quite either, sounding off as her hands seemed to trace invisible notes in the warm summer air. "There's quite a few more that suit the occassion as well." The rhythm she tapped her fingers to changed slightly, altering the tune in the air. "Let Erin remember the days of old 'ere her faithless sons betrayed her...♪" |

Matt would hesitate for a moment as the girl spoke, the Homunculus clearly unsure of how to respond to her. This wasn't how someone above humanity was supposed to behave at all. Hell, this wasn't how a man was supposed to behave. Weeping openly in public? Shameful! Just shameful! And yet... Well, the girl had a beautiful voice, second best he had ever heard. It'd be rude to a certain someone else's memory if he were to lash out at her because of his own failings in that regard. So he would just stand there in an awkward silence. Well, until she started to sing again. Matt would bring up his hands, waving them quickly while he shook his head. "No!" he would say hurriedly, his tone almost frantic. "Errr... I mean.... Well, no offense, Lass, but... I'm not in the mood for song right now. Certain memories attached that I don't want to dredge up." |

"The ability to bring forth memories, to stir emotions, to inspire and to cause despair" The tune changed again. Nothing grand and impressive, but with quiet intensity. She didn't seem to be paying attention to Matt himself, her eyes closed as she focused on playing the tune. "Such is music, and the responsibility of those who wield. Much the same as everything else, don't you think?" she asked "Tell me, does it remind you of your homeland?" |

Matt crossed his arms in front of himself, the beginnings of scowl starting to grace his face. Great, now she was prying. He hated it when people pried. There were some things that should stay buried in the past, and he certainly didn't want to be discussing them with others, especially not humans. "No," he would say, his pride forcing a somewhat haughty tone into his voice. "As a matter of fact, lassie, it does not." |

"I see. That sort of person. Fufufu..." A thin smile formed on her lips as she continued to play. Did she know something he didn't? Did she understand how he was feeling? Was it merely amusement at his sudden shift in tone? The tune in the air changed again. A little slower, more cheerful. It was certainly more relaxing at any rate. "Well, In the end, people are people afterall." she chided "It's alright to keep a secret I suppose, but sometimes it's fine not to hold back." |

Matt would continue to stare at the girl, his eyebrows beginning to furrow slightly in agitation. "Yer not gonna goad me into talking about it," the Homunculus would say, his tone obviously displeased. "Doesn't matter how much ye happen to remind me of her, I'm not going to dig into that bit of the past." |

"You already are." she said coyly "You're telling me that it involves a woman in the distant past, with memories you would rather forget about." Everything said something. Even nothing said something - if you knew the context for it. Things react in ways you could gauge, and from there you could guess what they thought. Though cultures varied, the same base feelings existed everywhere. "But, I'm here to enjoy music, not to pick at old wounds." she added, smiling, with an almost teasingly innocent voice that bordered back to non-innocence "If there's something you'd like to hear, I take requests." |

Matt would soundlessly open and close his mouth a few times, as if he were trying to say something, his hands making strangling motions in the air as he did so. This girl was just so... so... Ugggghhhh!!! A blush would eventually come to his face as the realization set in that her getting an idea about what he was reminded of was entirely his fault. "I-i-i... But... Ye-," he would stammer for a moment, obviously flustered. "D-d-don't ye mock me, lassie!" |

"Fufufufu...." she couldn't help but smile at that, covering her mouth as if to stifle a laugh "You do sulk in an rather entertaining manner~" With a cheery, singsong tone, she gave Matt her honest assessment. It was always those with some sort of pride that reacted in fun ways. Not every time, and not every person, but with enough consistency that it was fun to push their buttons around. But, she didn't do things just for fun, even if she did have the sort of twisted personality that enjoyed it. "But, you know, there's a saying. Calmness is the virtue of the strongest. If you keep your head clear, you can give away much less when you react than if you wear your feelings on your sleeve~" It was about as much teasing as it was good advice, though the exact ratio of how much was intended would be a matter of debate. |

Matt would glare at the girl, gritting his teeth. So she wanted to spout out advice to him, huh? He'd turn away from her, the blush on his face growing deeper as he did so. Then, he'd close his eyes, inhale deeply through his nose, and then tell her exactly what he thought of her advice. "Yer right," he would mumble, his tone still somewhat sulky. "Not the first time I've heard that particular bit o' advice, but it doesn't make it any less right. The way I heard it though was a bit different is all." |

![]() "Ufufufu, you really are entertaining..." she smiled It was really hard not to be entertained by someone so forthcoming. Or rather, someone who didn't realise just how forthcoming they were when they went about things. It was almost like a tsundere, in this case. It was also cute. But teasing him here and now wasn't her primary purpose here, regardless of how much fun she was having. "But as I said, I'm here to enjoy what time I can spare on music, before the coming storm. If there's anything you'd like to listen to before it arrives, you are free to ask." |

Matt would snort, waving his hand. "No thanks lass," he would say, his tone still somewhat annoyed. "As I said, not in the mood for song right now. I certainly won't stop ye from enjoyin' it though. Have a nice rest of the day, lass." And with that, the Homunculus would simply walk away. |
