From: Lavender Smith Some time shortly after the attacks that destroyed Doki Doki Land and the mall, some of Hyakuji's students and alumni who'd been involved in Arcadia would find themselves receiving this text message on their phones one morning, and as far as the details of the message went, Lavender had arranged for the Arcadia operatives to meet later in the evening, at a Chinese restaurant in downtown Hyakuji known as "The Fat Dragon Inn", the most distinguishing feature of the restaurant being an eight-foot tall statue of its mascot - a cheery-looking cartoon anthropomorph of a Chinese dragon in a nobleman's hanfu. (traditional Chinese outfit) For those who arrived, they would be greeted warmly by the restaurant staff, before being ushered to a VIP lounge, an opulently-furnished private dining room with a round table capable of accommodating at least ten chairs, before being presented with a menu, and asked by the friendly and courteous staff on their choice of drinks and some appetizers - namely roasted salted peanuts, pickled cabbage and seasoned jellyfish. Already, one of the chairs would be occupied by none other than Lavender herself, attired in (what seems to be) her favorite outfit, perusing the menu with a half-finished cup of Pu-Er tea sitting on the table in front of her. As the Arcadia operatives approach, the aeromancer would look up from the menu at them with a smile, gesturing cheerfully for them to join her and get seated. Was this supposed to be a briefing for a high-level Arcadia mission? Just what is going on? Edited by Lawman, Aug 12 2014, 11:41 AM.

Let's simplify things in bullet points. These are the info that the little joint effort between BOARD and Arcadia that they have so far, condensed into a little memo left behind by Lavender for only certain members of Arcadia, and condensed even further by Seth Ryouga's mind. Hiro and Damon went out on a mission for Arcadia. Don't know what, but the mission log states that it was an investigation about something that has some mind-controlling properties. Or something that alters their behaviors and whatnot. It's been presumed that they went rogue right after the mission. ...Is this seriously it? I mean sure it's valuable information that at least... hopefully confirmed that they haven't been themselves when they attacked, but... they are still severely lacking in what they need to actually turn the situation in their favor. Of course the next sensible course of action is to take action to gather even more info. But time is not on their side, and they can't just wait for the information to come to them... They need to take initiative, and hunt for the information themselves. If this doesn't remind him of his old detective days then he is a panda... ...Putting that aside... Why the heck is he sitting at a fancy VIP seat in a fancy Chinese restaurant and holding a menu with staffers courteously waiting for him to make his order? Well there's Lavender sitting there on the same table so he could at least be assured he wasn't actually lost hey wait a minute! "Miss Smith..." The young man couldn't help but growl suspiciously at the aeromancer lady. "Is this really the best place for..." He paused for a moment after a glance at the waitress still waiting for his order. ... He made a little order just to get them away from the table, before turning back to the aeromancer. "...Couldn't you have at least picked a less flashy place for the briefing...?" ...Is that really his biggest concern of why they're here in the first place? ...That being said, what is that long... stick... package, I guess... very thickly wrapped in cloth he had brought with him? |

"It's called hiding in plain sight, Seto-kun." One more operative walked towards the table, but... it wasn't anyone officially in their records. It wasn't so much an operative of Arcadia as she was a Stand of one of their operatives. In fact she might have reminded Seth of all the terrible things he endured in the realm of Heavenly Host Elementary, with, of all people, one of the students who tried to kill them at Doki Doki Land. Sachiko Shinozaki appeared before them in a more formal black dress meant for children. She was well aware of what happened, and even she had her doubts about Aisia's assault on the city as a delayed side-effect of being almost eaten up by the Darkening. Even if she was the one who was most affected by it, the effects wouldn't be so sudden. It would be more subtle, more gradual. Not to mention it wouldn't so easily contaminate the mind of Damon, much less Hiro. Something else was off. And as someone who interacted with (and also constantly watched over) Aisia, she could offer at least some insight on how to fight her should they meet her. And because she was no stranger to manipulating emotions to her will, at least in the former realm of Heavenly Host, she could ascertain as to what kind of possible mind control was influencing Hiro and Damon. "I'm Sachiko Shinozaki, a... friend of Hotaru-nee-chan," the little girl introduced herself. "Seth-kun can vouch for me. She's still watching us by the way, so anything I see or hear while in here will be transmitted to her. You won't have to worry too much about any... problems though. Stands have a habit of being so... connected with their masters that it is almost impossible to intercept anything between me and her." With that, she took a seat next to Seth and playfully rested her head on his shoulder. "So, Seto-kun, who else are we expecting?" she asked. Edited by Pikachu_Fragger, Aug 12 2014, 09:30 PM.

Checking her phone, Lucy was glad she had paid the money for the mid-market phone as Lavender’s message flashed up on the screen. Reading the message, the green-brown-haired teen deleted the message a moment later. While it might not have been intended that way, the teen found that there were four pieces of information in the message; Meet at the restaurant, arrive at the right time, specify Lavender’s table, and Arcadia Uniforms are not to be used. Everything else, Lucy considered to be padding to hide all the details. Deleting the message, the teen continued on her daily routine like nothing had happened, she returned to her dorm room in the afternoon. Casting her clothing aside for a quick shower and drying off, the teen grabbed a clean set of functional underwear and selected her garments for the evening from her relatively meagre selection. While it was her trademark, the red Liberion Military Jacket of her home time and dimension would also imply her Arcadia Uniform. However her uniform lacked a skirt under it, being a leotard under the jacket and white shirt, so showing up with a skirt on should belay that part. Selecting a green shirt of the British Royal Army gained from an Army Surplus store, and a grey pinafore dress over top of her shirt, the time-and-dimensionally-displaced teen dressed in her chosen clothes and pulled on a pair of black-and-purple-striped over-the-knee socks and a pair of WWII US Paratrooper’s Jump Boots. Looking herself over quickly in the mirror before pulling her loose hair into her usual two pigtails, Lucy put her phone and several notes into a shirt pocket before pulling her red jacket on and heading out the door. Having a few hours to pass before the meeting, the teen headed out to the mall to browse and window-shop for a while. When it got to near the meeting time, Lucy headed for the Chinese restaurant, making it five several minutes to spare. As the staff lead her to the VIP room of the meeting place, the green-brown-haired teen found herself to be the third arrival. “Lucy M. Chulainn, reporting in.” While such words could conceivably blow the group’s cover, anyone who took a look at the Witch’s ensemble without knowing her past or abilities, would quite easily assume she was a military otaku. Taking a seat to Lavender’s immediate left, the teen quickly browsed the menu and ordered something simple and not overly spicy, along with fresh juice for a drink. While she had tasted foods and drinks from several nations in her home dimension, Chinese wasn’t one she had any particular experience with. Not to mention, her pragmatic nature wouldn’t allow her to have anything too fancy in case it clashed with her military diet, or contained something she turned out to be allergic to. |

"I say, this is most unexpected," And another senior operative of Arcadia would arrive in the VIP lounge, ushered in by the restaurant staff - none other than one Selene Frostfire - sporting a green dress and pink floral lace vest - whose expression seemed to show that the corporate heiress wasn't sure this was really an Arcadia mission briefing, or Lavender was in fact treating them to dinner. Now having such a lavish celebration at a fancy venue in the wake of a devastating attack on the city? Doesn't that just come off a tad insensitive!? Still, the summoner knew for one that Lavender works in mysterious, and as such quickly remembered her manners. "Good evening, Lavender-sensei," the corporate heiress bowed, greeting the aeromancer politely, before acknowledging her fellow Arcadia operatives - many of whom also happened to be her friends - a nod and a smile before seating herself down on one of the available chairs, ordering a cup of green tea and some appetizers while waiting for the Arcadia Prime to continue the session. "Hotaru-chan, I see. Well, that puts my mind at ease then," Lavender remarked as a new Arcadia operative who introduced herself as Sachiko spoke up, stating that she was here in place of seasoned Arcadia veteran, Hotaru, whom the girl claimed was able to see and hear the events of this entire session through Sachiko's eyes and ears, which was par for the course for a Stand, apparently serving the same role for Hotaru as her sister Hinata - better known to her friends as Otoha - did back when she was a ghost. "But aye, Sachiko-chan is correct," Lavender nodded as she glanced in the direction of the Stand. "If you're here, then all of you must have gone through my memo as well as referred to the relevant information files regarding the recent attacks on the city," the aeromancer began with a brief refresher, pausing to thank a waitress as she stepped in to serve a dish that she'd ordered - a plate of zhajiang mian; of the sweet and savory variety found in Shanghai cuisine as opposed to the spicy Sichuan variant - and some pork and cabbage dumplings, while another waitress came in shortly after to refill Lavender's tea. "And due to Arcadia's past history of security breaches, I feel that the most dangerous place would in fact be the safest place," the aeromancer added, giving Seth a reassuring smile. "While the enemy is busy trying to intercept our encrypted communications or spy on the Arcadia mansion, here we are hiding in plain sight... most likely not where they'd expect us to be," Lavender remarked, puffing gently on her refilled cup of Pu-Er tea to cool its surface slightly before taking a sip of tea. "I'll wait a while to see if more of those who received my message will turn up, but in the meantime, you know what to do," Lavender grinned as she addressed the Arcadia operatives present; giving the hint for them to act casual and natural, rather than being all secretive and stealthy, and for now the aeromancer would tuck into her meal. "Come on, don't be shy! Just go ahead and order, I'm footing the bill for all of ya!" "Well, now that all makes sense," Selene chorused, nodding her assent as a waitress presented the corporate heiress with a cup of green tea, along with the appetizers she'd ordered - soup dumplings, or Xiaolongbao, inside a bamboo steaming basket. "This place does have some pretty good ambience, good food and good service; I think I might come here again in the near-future after this mess is sorted out," the corporate heiress commented, trying to strike up some casual banter while waiting for more Arcadia operatives to show up. "It was more like demolition than a attack though." Shad Hornswell said calmly under his breath, looking up from his menu awhile half-chewing a piece of raw cabbage. He'd been in the room a few minutes after Lavender arrived, for the most part unnoticed given how quiet he can be at times. Of course, the only 'fancy duds' he had available was his school uniform, which basically made him look more normal as a person, save for the large leather pointed hat on his head he took everywhere. To be honest, the memo was a bit confusing, but he was quite good at stealth missions so long as no talking was involved. "Ants Climbing Trees, Beggar's Chicken, Chow Fun, and a side of Yangchow Fried Rice please." Shad said to the waiter, handing over his menu then sipped from his Diet Coke glass calmly. "If we can save the city, I'm all for whatever you have planned. Though I am a bit confused about Hiro-sensei if that really was him." |

Well no, he knows about hiding in plain sight, but... ...It still doesn't change the fact that this is one fancy place she chose. Though he suppose they're much less likely to be intercepted here than at other public places- oh there's the keyword, 'public'. This place is... only somewhat public. With appointments. Also dammit Sachiko, don't sit so close to him, you're making him uncomfortable. "...I don't know myself," The young man huffed, slowly leaning away from the now-gothic lolita Stand. "And you're touching me," Oh Seth, always so unapproachable. After that came yet another familiar face, albeit one whom he had really only seen up close once. In a sense. Though if he was to be honest, considering Lavender's first message about how this is supposed to be a small, covert and highly classified mission? "Wait wait, how many people are you actually expecting here...?" The young man asked the teacher (and the leader), and as though serving to confirm his concern, another one popped up, and this time it was Selene Frostfire herself. ...Oh god, there's even that odd midget mage. He wasn't exactly sure if he could indulge in this lavish dining experience. |

"Ehhhhh... Onii-chan's being mean to me..." Sachiko whimpered before relenting and moving away and ordering a bowl of Dandan noodles. Technically she can't really "eat" but because Hotaru is giving her corporeal form she can at least give the illusion of such. A couple of minutes later, her noodles arrived, and she gleefully slurped some of the noodles into her mouth. "Mmmmmm! Delicious!" she cooed. It was spicy - which kind of made it odd watching a young child actually liking it when children her apparent age usually shied away from such heat. "So wait, if more are coming, will that mean that we'll be paired into smaller groups? I imagine it'll be harder to detect that way. Say ahh, onii-chan!" Wait, what? Sachiko was... trying to feed Seth. Such a good little sister - wait is she doing this in purpose!? |

“And to contain the leak, you’ve eliminated the communication tap by not using our uniforms, the information leak and the mole by not using the briefing room, and set our unknown enemy on the back foot by hosting this briefing in a place they would never expect. Not only is it completely outside the Arcadia playbook, it’s intelligent.” Nodding several times, Lucy took a sip of her Orange juice. Setting the tall glass down, the teen gave a polite smile and nod to Selene. As for Shad, she was studiously ignoring him to the best of her ability. At least after he showed that he was inobservant and clearly not as good a ninja as he thought he was. After all, who thinks they’re the first arrival after the organiser, when no less than four other people arrived first and sat down? And besides, if all it took to being a ninja was hiding behind a menu and shutting up, then everyone would be a ninja. Politely letting people talk amongst themselves, Lucy gave a nod of thanks to the waiter, who brought her food order over; Steamed Rice and Pork Wrapped by Lotus Leaves and Braised Bamboo Shoots. Somehow, the teen suspected that it was due to the influence of her ghostly Panda familiar that she ordered the bamboo, but she wasn’t about to complain. At least she wasn’t ordering enough to feed a horse, unlike someone she could mention… |

Skip forward about 15-20 minutes or so... "Alright, no point waiting for the others, so I'll cut to the chase - the sooner I get the business part settled, the sooner we can just go ahead and enjoy our dinner," Lavender remarked as she clapped her hands twice after glancing at her Galaxy Gear 2 to check out the time. "As you may all know, based on what Arcadia and BOARD has gone over regarding the attacks, it has become apparent to us that regardless of what has been causing our heroes to go rogue, one thing that remains certain is that they are but pawns, and someone is likely to be pulling the strings from the shadows," the aeromancer began, pausing to take a sip of tea. "As some of you had already deduced, my reason for calling all of you here is to inform you of our change in strategy," Lavender continued as she glanced around to ensure that those present were paying attention, before giving Sachiko and Lucy a nod. "First off, we will be operating on a decentralized command structure - we will be conducting our operations on an independent, own-time-own-target basis, using whatever means is available to the individual to accomplish their objectives," the aeromancer commented as she held up her right hand with her index finger pointing up to make 'one', before raising her middle finger to make a 'two' gesture. "Second point would be, after this briefing is done we will be acting independently either solo, or in pairs - no more than threes, tops. Instead of reporting to me or the Prime Division, whatever information we gather we will keep to ourselves until I give the signal to gather in our next meeting place for us to share and disseminate the information," the aeromancer continued, falling silent as a waitress entered the lounge to refill drinks, nodding and thanking the staff graciously and waiting for her to exit before continuing. In this way, no one will know everything, so that in the event their operation was compromised, the enemy will not have a complete picture of whatever plans Arcadia may be hatching. "So for the Arcadia side of things, we will be focusing our efforts on our two foremost operatives gone rogue - Hiro Tsukasa and Damon Ark. According to our sources, before they went rogue they've been involved in some solo operations of a clandestine nature, which leads us to believe that they may have come across some kind of plot to undermine and destroy Hyakuji when they were captured by the enemy and subsequently either turned, or bought off," Lavender paused to take another sip of tea to keep her throat quenched, as well as to give the rest of the group time to take in what she said earlier. "Which led the Prime Division to believe that vital clues regarding how or why they went rogue may be tied to the last few missions Hiro and Damon had participated, so a possible lead is to start with investigating the sites of said missions - and fortunately for us Hiro had for a change left behind rather extensive journals of his missions which you are free to refer to in the Arcadia files. Although of course, this operation being conducted on an own-time-own-target basis you're free to carry out your investigations however you wish, but I would at least recommend checking on the locations of Hiro and Damon's last solo missions prior to their defection." "Remember though, since we're keeping this low-key we are to hide any traces of Arcadia involvement in all this, which means no usage of Arcadia resources whatsoever, and moreover, in order to further reinforce the illusion that Arcadia is remaining idle through all this, not all of you will be involved in field work," the aeromancer continued to speak after glancing briefly at Shad. "The enemy is likely to get suspicious too if Arcadia HQ seems too quiet, so some of us will probably need to be around to file documents, train, do housekeeping and other miscellany to make this charade more convincing... which brings me to the final part of this briefing," the aeromancer remarked, clapping her hands once to get everyone's attention. "To sum things up, the first phase of our operation is to gather vital information on the enemy - their plans, their base of operations, and the works; then second phase is to meet again to compile the results of our investigations before disseminating them amongst the rest of Arcadia and BOARD. And of course, the last phase would involve splitting the enemy's attention by engaging the defectors in the less-populated districts of the city to keep collateral damage to minimum, while we strike hard at their base of operations. This is my strategy in a nutshell, so... any questions? If none, then you're free to enjoy your dinner and the evening, because the next few days are going to be hectic," Lavender nodded at the end of the briefing, waiting for any possible questions the rest may ask, before tucking into her meal. "I guess this isn't much of a question..." Selene chimed in, pausing first to take one of her xiaolongbao, nibbling the top off the dumpling to sip the rich broth within, before dipping it into a saucer filled with dark vinegar and shredded ginger to eat it. "How does Lavender-sensei intend to assign pairings?" the corporate heiress asked. "Own time, own target," Lavender replied with a smile, before taking a mouthful of noodles, chewing carefully and swallowing before continuing. "So it's up to you to decide who you wish to work with, or to work alone, just remember, pairs to trios at most," the aeromancer reminded of how barring the few stipulations, they effectively had a free hand on carrying out this operation. "Ah well, guess I rambled on a bit too much... food's getting cold," Lavender grumbled. |

On the contrary he was hoping that no more people would come. It's not exactly easy not to notice a bunch of people suddenly meeting together at a VIP lounge at a fancy Chinese restaurant. Though it's probably just his tendency to stay away from a large group of people talking. "Well, I guess if you have a plan I shouldn't worry too... Aaah~" ...Wait, he's wholeheartedly playing along! "You're putting quite a lot of responsibility onto us here," The young man said as he took another mouthful of rice he had ordered, having already started long before Lavender finished her briefing. "Though I guess it's better than putting all the eggs into one basket," He's not exactly complaining though, because if he were to be honest he easily preferred this method of working. "So don't mind me if I'm going alone," |

"I wouldn't mind working with either Lucy or Sachiko." Shad said, gulping down a chunk of Chow Fun noodles without chewing, not the least bit bothered by the instructions given. "I would like a printed copy of those journals after this though, so I can read up on what he and that Damon fellow were up to, if possible. The two phases we can do well enough, gathering information quietly is one of my best traits. Though I am uncertain about the last phase you described given how powerful Hiro has suddenly become, given the whole array of magic he revealed to us in the mall that he never did with Rasputin and that annoying vampire sect. The fact there are three more rogue agents just as strong as him and Damon worries me a little. If anything, I'll help with the base of operations, since I don't want to hurt Hiro or any of the rogues if they've been turned." |
