The grounds of Hyakuji High were a place were the unusual became the usual, very little often caused distractions of the day to day basis for most of the students. Something however had cause quite a few of them to be rather disturbed for lack of a better word, following around several of the students were stone statues that resembled them far to efficiently and as soon as one of them were attacked they would just fall to pieces only to be reformed into another student's image slightly later.

Gaius had in defense done this before without much complaints, granted that there was no one around to make the statues follow, it seemed like the students didn't like being followed. In this place where the impossible was possible being followed could turn into a very bad thing so it made sense.

Sitting literally on a bench in plain view he looked around for a new target to weird out. The fun part was no one seemed to have connected the statues to him, they were all standing on edge looking around yet they didn't pick out the most obvious person. It made him ever so curious about how they had managed to survive the dangers of Hyakuji for so long.

What to do with the characters today.... That was the thought going through Lilica's head as she skipped across the school grounds. What sort of story should I pursue? A comedy? A tragedy? Should I give them something to fear? Something to love? Oh so many choices, and so little time to implement them here...

It was at this point that the Fae noticed the boy sitting on the bench, and the statues that were fringing the grounds as well. Oooooooh, what have we here? A male character, hmmm? Well, I haven't gotten to interact with one of those yet. And I'm sure the emotional output will be delicious~ She would smile at the boy, and start skipping towards him. Though Gaius may not have known it at that precise moment, his life was about to get a lot more interesting. Or possibly terrifying. Who knew what Lilica had in mind.

Gaius did in fact notice the girl skipping over towards him, he was curious as to whether or not she had been able to figure him out. He hadn't actually made a statue to follow her around, maybe that was his shortcoming. Regardless he'd hold his tongue on that particular matter.

The girl approaching him was quite good looking by any stretch of how you looked at it, something about her though felt weird. After taking a second to remind himself of where he currently was though he dismissed that, in Hyakuji everyone could be classified as weird for the most part.

Straightening up his back he glanced at the girl. "Something interesting over here?" Gaius asked her whilst having a look around before turning back to face her with a mischievous smile. It was a simple enough question, he wasn't going to be going on all barrels questioning her about everything that came to mind. That would be a combination of dumb and rude, besides it was easier to get information over a period of time.

Lilica had already been thinking about how to approach the male character, and settled upon a relatively common archetype she had seen here. The individuals who did possess it were among her favorites, though, so if nothing else, it would be very entertaining for her to try it out for herself. She would skip right past Gaius before he even spoke a word, and promptly bent over, looking intently at some flowers that were behind the bench.

If the Terramancer turned around to talk to the girl, two things would stand out. The first was that there were a trio of blue toads coming out of the top of the girl's backpack, glaring at him. Secondly, it also seemed that a gust of wind had decided to simply come out of nowhere, just as Gaius turned to look at the girl. This, of course, gave him a rather good view of a certain pink article of clothing that most perverted minds would work very hard at seeing.

However, regardless of whether or not he saw what the sudden gust had revealed, he would hear one of the toads in the girl's backpack croak. Lilica would quickly stand up at that point, holding the back of her skirt down as she turned, red-faced, to Gaius. "DID YOU JUST LIFT UP MY SKIRT, YOU PERV?!" she would loudly yell in an angry tone, backing up the tone of her voice with the illusion of a fiery aura around her. The Fae allowed herself a moment of internal satisfaction at her performance. It was time to see what fun she could have with this mortal character~.

Watching as the girl walked past him Gaius wondered if he was wrong, he was certain that she seemed to be heading in his direction. He turned his head just as the gust of wind occurred and depending on how you look at it got either a very lucky or unlucky image in front of his eyes, what made him more curious where actually the strange toads in the girl's backpack.

When the girl turned around and yelled at her Gaius couldn't help but internally sigh, this was going to become irritating. "Quiet down, I did nothing of the sort." He spoke sounding somewhat annoyed. "Why don't you attribute that to those little pets of yours, seems more likely then someone else doing that in broad daylight." He gestured to the backpack that she held, if those toads had decided to try and get him into trouble they had another thing coming.

The surrounding students apart from the girl would find themselves being pulled away from the area by their respective statues. "Christ, now I'm going to have to deal with her going off at me." Gaius spoke mainly to himself. It was bad enough that he had to 'behave' now but this was probably going to circulate like wildfire and get him a bad reputation as well.

Turning to look at the girl he raised an eyebrow "Besides it would be more trouble than it's worth for me, that means there's even less reason as to why it was me." He was hoping that the girl would accept the reasoning and hopefully apologize before taking this much further. "Or am I somehow incorrect?"

Annoyance is all I get? Lilica thought to herself. How dare this character go against what I want! I don't want him to be annoyed! He should be stammering out apologies, not acting like he did nothing wrong! Fine then, if he refuses to act as a character should, then I'll just make his life harder then!

The Fae's inner frustration would manifest as an intensification to her blazing aura, and an even angrier look on her face. "What pets, you twit?!" she would say as the Toadies crawled up onto both shoulders and her head. Her guardians would each stick out their tongues at the other boy, while Lilica kept on talking like they weren't even there. "And you don't think I wouldn't fall for some stupid obvious trick like you saying that you didn't do it! After all, that's the exact sort of thing a pervert would say when caught in the act!"

Was she serious?

Denying the existence of the creatures on her very shoulders and on top of her head... If Gaius didn't know any better she'd almost be picking a fight for some strange and unusual reason. He couldn't honestly think of anyone who was so dense off of the top of his head so easily.

"Those ones?" Gaius said as he pointed at the Toadies who were currently sticking their tongues out at him. "The ones that should be applying weight on your shoulders and head respectively." He continued speaking his finger still pointing at the strange creatures.

She was actually serious or she was at least putting up a convincing front about it.

Gaius actually had to refrain from laughing, there were many other ways that he could've done it if he really wanted to that were a lot less obvious then flipping the girl's skirt in broad daylight. "Clearly you caught me, whatever shall I do." Gaius spoke with such obvious sarcasm that it was almost tangible.

"Will an idol in your honor be enough to be seen as forgiveness." Gaius laughed as the earth near them rose and formed into a statue that was identical to the girl, even to her small companions having small statues of them on top of the the girl's statue. "Shall I make a daily offering so that I may atone for my sin." He was having fun here, perhaps going a bit to far but what was the worse that could happen.

One of the Toadies would let out an indignant croak at being called a pet, and they would all glare at Gaius as he pointed at them. "Who yousa callin' pets?" A second one would say, his arms crossed in a somewhat pouty gesture. "Surely yousa aren't referring to the Mistresses Cataphractoi?!"

The third one on top of the Courtless Fae's head would nod in agreement, letting out an angry ribbit before talking. "Sheesh, learn some manners, will ya Mud Man? Don't refer to perfectly intelligent, honor-bound beings as pets, kero!"

Lilica would point up to her guardians, possessing just as indignant of a look on her face as the Toadies would if they looked human. "Yeah, what they said!!!!"

And then Gaius made a serious mistake. He attempted to bargain with Lilica for forgiveness. Even though the Fae fully understood the concept of sarcasm, and what it meant to mortals, she could ignore it with no legal or mystical ramifications for a psuedo-contract. After all, it was the letter of the law that mattered to all Fae, not the intent. Now here was the beginnings of a fantastic story! "Fine then, pervert!" she would exclaim, pointing at the boy in front of her "Swear on your name to give me daily praise or offerings for a year and a day, and I shall grant you forgiveness!!!"

"I believe I am calling you a pet." Gaius responded to the strange creature. "Are you also hard of hearing?" He was a bit surprised to see that they were capable of speech but ultimately it wasn't that much of a shock, there were lots of familiars which could speak around Hyakuji after all. These Cataphractoi weren't really anything completely out of the ordinary.

When the third one told him to learn some manners he couldn't hold it, he laughed at the small creature. "Telling me to learn some manners and then insulting me." He had to give it to them, he hadn't met such elitist beings in quite a while. "That is actually amazing, do these thoughts actually register in your minds before they leave them?" He was being quite rude but they started it so they had to be prepared to receive equal amounts of what they were handing out.

He was starting to grow bored of this charade when the girl told him swear that he would follow up with his sarcastic remarks. "If you insist." He spoke nonchalantly, he wasn't even registering that this could be a contract. Whether he underestimated the girl in front of him or was to tired and amused to register it was anyone's guess.

"I, Gaius Harper swear to give you daily praise or offerings for a year and a day, in return for forgiveness." Gaius said mockingly holding his hand up before adding in something else for amusement's sake. "and the service of the Cataphractoi that are in your service as long as it doesn't break any rules you had set prior to this contract." A smile crossed his face, if it was a legitimate contract that she wanted then he'd damn well gain something out of it. Even if it was simply teaching those little toads a lesson about humility.

Huh. Lilica had at expected at least some bartering from the character. After all, any Storyteller worth their salt would try to maximize their benefits while also hopefully giving up something that was hopefully of at least somewhat equal value to the other individual. Still, she hadn't ever heard of a bargain being struck this quickly! The mortal characters here must have lacked the stamina to go at the process for hours, or even days. Oh well, that just meant more fun for her then!

The Fae would smile widely, wider than any human mouth should have gone, even as he made his final adder to the deal. Even the Toadies didn't look worried as Gaius demanded their services. As soon as the terramancer finished his sentence, a set of delicate silver manacles would suddenly appear, closing around both of their wrists before either could react. They would disappear from sight after a moment, but Gaius could still feel the metal there. Not so much physically as... Well, it was sort of like having his wrist asleep. "Contract accepted, Gaius," the Fae would say, dipping into a slight bow towards him, the Toadies chuckling amongst themselves at him. "I apologize for accusing you of lifting up my skirt to see my panties. Even if it was just an unfortunate happenstance with the wind." .... Yeah, if Gaius didn't realize that he had been cheated now, things were only going to get worse for him as time went on.

"Really, you have to be actually joking me." Gaius frowned, it seemed like it was legitimately a contract that they had just formed. Thankfully the terms weren't that specific, his offerings could (and probably would for the most part) consist of dirt or other such items. Still, this was going to be a pain in the ass if there ever was one.

Noticing the toadies chuckling Gaius got a bit annoyed. "Go run into a wall." This was a good test to see how much influence he had over the creatures as well as potentially getting them to shut up. A win in both directions.

Standing up Gaius stretched his arms as the girl apologized, it was a load of crap frankly speaking but he had managed to walk himself into this willingly. "Don't apologize when you don't mean it." He was especially blunt now, he wasn't about to lash out or do something uncouth to the girl herself (the Toadies were fair enough game for that) but that didn't stop him from being blunt.

"So, I need to give you either praise or an offering every day." He sighed as he thought about what kind of situation he had gotten himself into. "Damn it all." Looking at the statue he had crafted it occurred to him that he at least had one day down, only 365 more to go. "I'm going to assume that this was your plan from the get go." Gaius spoke as he ran a hand through his head sighing before facing Lilicia.

"At least its someone decently cute I suppose." Gaius wasn't one to be swayed by the looks or charms of a person so easily but if he was bound in this stupid contract the least he could get out of it was some eye candy during it. It would make the contract a slight bit more bearable, even if it was still annoying as hell.

The Toadies would once again stick their tongues out at Gaius when he issued his order. "Yousa stupid if yousa think bossing around the Lady's bodyguards is somethin' other people can do! Wesa dedicated to one master exclusively, as is the duty of a Cataphractoi!"

Lilica would chuckle as well as Gaius made his request of the Toadies, and her servants outright refusal. "Allow me to explain," she would say, her voice eminently amused. "A Cataphractoi is a guardian, or in this case guardians, devoted exclusively to the protection of one solitary target. They are sworn to the loyalty of that charge alone. Now, perhaps if you were a royal representative of one of the Courts, you could actually take them out from other my command. But as it stands now... Well, you being able to command them as well as me? That would be breaking a rule. And you were considerate enough to include the clause about how you didn't want to break any rules."

"As for my apology... I don't say things I know not to be true, dearie~ I gave you an honest apology, so now all that remains is for you to hold up your end of the bargain." She would giggle again at this point, her wide smile now a smirk. "Oh, and this little contract of ours? Happy accident. I just came over here to get an emotional response from you. But you just happened to walk right into making a contract, and I thought it would be wasteful to pass such a kind offer up!"

Gaius's smile fell when he learnt that he had entirely been his own unmaking here. To make matters worth both the creatures and the girl were both mocking him. Their voices rang in his head constantly echoing, taunting him at how stupid he was, joined by a myriad of other voices repeating the same sentiments.

How useless, how stupid, how weak, how broken, shouldn't bother existing.

"Don't mock me." Gaius's spoke quietly under his breath, his words laced with venom. It was very clear that they were pushing extremely hard and possibly had broken his patience into pieces. Ironically enough his thoughts about being able to take what you dished out were disappearing rather rapidly in this situation.

The very next moment his fist launched towards the particular Toad which had insulted him. "I'm not stupid." Gaius growled, he was barely managing to restrain himself from attacking the girl who had made a fool out of him, he was only refraining from using his powers because that would be even more trouble then it would be worth. Whether his punch landed or not he took a step back clearly still holding in his rage.

"After this damned contract is done, I'm coming for your head." He stated his intentions clear as daylight, while it was a bit of an overreaction he was very annoyed that this girl had just outright been playing him the whole damned time. Maybe over time he would calm down, it could just be an overreaction that he hadn't fully thought through.

Lilica looked slightly surprised when Gaius punch one of the Toadies. The Toadies seemed slightly less surprised, though the one Gaius punched did go flying for a moment before smacking into a tree. A slight sound, like the one you would get from throwing a squeaky toy at a wall, would emerge from Lilica's servant as it fell to the floor.

However, the surprise would pass after a moment, and the Fae would turn her head to the side after Gaius finished talking, almost as if in thought. "Hmmmm." she would say wistfully. "That's.... The four-hundreth sixty-third time." ... What?

After hearing her speak Gaius got curious, all his instincts were telling him to leave now but he had to ask the question. Had she actually tried something like this that many times before. Gaius felt a pang of guilt but he wasn't about to show it yet, for all he knew she could be playing him along yet again and frankly speaking she probably was.

"Four Hundredth sixty third time of what?" He knew that going down this rabbit hole was leading him to places that he did not want to go anywhere near. This was pretty much dooming any chance of getting off with the most minor of consequences but curiosity was pushing him forward.

Worse comes to worse he could still walk away even after hearing her out, if it was something stupid that he didn't care about. After all his part of the contract was just to give offerings, due to the nondescript nature of the offerings they could be piles of dirt for all intents and purposes and they would still perform the daily offering.
