"The dossiers you requested, Commander." Miyuki's salute didn't seem particularly spirited or reverent, but she'd never been one to be formal when she felt a need to be. At least, as far as shows of respect were concerned. With a blank, almost bored expression, she merely waited for Lavender to finish with whatever she was doing here and approach her herself. Nominally part of the Water Division, her status as being a reserve asset generally gave her little work to do here. However, due to recent events, the need to activate as many useful intelligence assets as they could they had had made it simple enough to request a transfer back to active duty status. Doubly so now that BOARD was also on the case, and her old status as a liaison between the two groups meant that both groups naturally passed information to her in order to better coordinate their efforts on major events like this one. It also meant that out of anyone, she was likely to have the best idea of the overall picture that they had. This of course, had certain other, just as useful perks to people she reported to. In her hand, tucked away quietly, was a simple folder that read... Initial Report - Classified level Prime For Your Eyes Only |

As Miyuki stepped into the simulation chamber, she would arrive to find Lavender in the middle of a combat simulation, the current backdrop being what appears to be the prayer hall of a desecrated cathedral, with Lavender attired in a black SWAT-styled tactical outfit and facing off against a grotesquely misshapened, vaguely humanoid abomination. "Miyuki-san? Gimme thirty seconds and I'll get back to ya!" Lavender remarked with a cheerful grin as she glanced over her shoulder towards Miyuki. With a roar, The Abomination attacked as its left arm, a tentacle lined with barbs, shot forth like a spear, only to have Lavender sidestep the attack, before breaking into a sprint towards her opponent as if to launch a head-on assault, closing the gap in a matter of seconds. Seeing the aeromancer charge straight at it, The Abomination roared again as it raised its right arm, fist clenched and ready to deliver a downward smash. "Aerowhip," Lavender called her preemptive strike as a lavender-colored vortex swirled around her extended arm, followed by a mass of streams of compressed air shooting forth and coiling around The Abomination's arm, holding it back from attacking. Snarling, the creature lowered its head to stare eye to eye with Lavender, flames spurring from its open mouth as it appeared to be readying a fire breath, only to have the aeromancer draw her H&K USP sidearm in her other hand, and fire repeatedly into its face point-blank, elicitng a howl of pain from The Abomination as it staggered backwards, clutching its injured face. "Now for the coup de grace," the aeromancer remarked as she pulled back her free arm, a wind vortex swirling around her arm as a stiff breeze swept through the simulation set. With a dull boom followed by an expanding lavender-colored nova-like burst the aeromancer accelerated from standstill to a third of the speed of sound in almost an instant, performing a straight punch aimed at the creature's solar plexus and releasing the compressed air upon striking to produce an explosive blast on impact, a booming shockwave reverberating through the chamber as the powerful blow knocked The Abomination right off its feet and flying backwards to smash into - and through - the wall at the far end of the chamber. With a groan, the creature tried to sit up, its chest caved in from the force of Lavender's blow, streams of orange gore pouring out of its mouth, then with another groan it fell back, completely still. "Mission cleared," a synthesized female voice announced. "Time to beat, 22.31 seconds." And with the simulated mission completed, the set faded away, leaving them back within the Spartan-looking interior of the simulation chamber. "Oh, this looks interesting," Lavender remarked as she went over to inspect the folder that Miyuki presented to her. "Heard what BOARD reported on the news regarding one of their Riders having turned heel... it's serious business alright to think BOARD and Arcadia would need to coordinate joint operations for this thing," the aeromancer remarked as she undid her hair ribbon to let her violet hair down from its high ponytail, shaking her head gently as her tresses cascaded down past her ears and shoulders. "So, anything else you're here for besides to hand me this file?" Lavender asked. Edited by Lawman, Aug 11 2014, 03:54 AM.

"This is Water Division's initial report, with the documents related to it, as well as BOARD's assessments." The Intelligence officer tilted her head as she watched Lavender go through the report "I must warn you though Commander, I would recommend taking everything with a grain of salt and perhaps investigating it yourself. Though this is hardly the first time this has happened to Hiro, the broad variety of personalities involves means there may be more traitors among the ranks. I would be careful who I trust with this information." she said blandly Among the old guard, she was still one of their most experienced field operators, with as many official missions fielded as Hiro or Damon. Something made more remarkable by the fact she wasn't even in a combat division. Further, the intelligence officer actually predated Lavender's involvement with the group. The paper compiled a series of reports of Hiro and Damon's missions, and her own annotated notes on them, and a particularly interesting report directed at Hiro's office. Seemingly typed up fairly recently, It was on ghostly possession of physical bodies to influence their decisions, and magic items that caused dramatic shifts in alignments and tendencies. Further notes also speculated that such things not only took over their bearer, but attempted to seize the minds and bodies of those who defeated their current bearer - their greater strength being proven and making them more worthy of possession. More disturbingly, one of the papers seemed to be a copy of a memo from Hiro that he would look into such things personally with a small force rather than sending in Arcadia in general, due to the unsuitability of most of the fire division for anything but direct combat. "However, in light of the situation and the report, I believe it would be prudent to issue a general order that they be taken alive, on the chance it is indeed accurate. You know I am not one to normally recommend 'take alive at all costs' order due to how costly they can be, but such a thing cannot be easily ignored. In such a light, it may indeed be preferential to reveal what we know to allies and personnel." |

"I see what you mean," Lavender remarked as she went through the contents of the files, as well as recently-typed notes on possession by ghostly entities, to mind control by cursed magical artifacts, among others - all possible explanations on the errant behavior exhibited by the esteemed heroes and heroines of Hyakuji. "Though it's mostly conjecture at this point," the aeromancer continued, nodding at Miyuki's statement on why everything in the file ought to be taken with a grain of salt, and even recommending that she conduct some investigations of her own. "Well, that's why back in Nova Oasis it's standard protocol to send in the HERMES division for field reconnaissance even with all the state-of-the-art surveillance drones, satellites, hackers and inside informants; gotta see it with your own eyes to be sure, aye," Lavender concurred to Miyuki's point as she went over what appeared to be a copy of a memo issued by Hiro himself, instructions on sending out Arcadia operatives in small squads rather than a mass mobilization, on the grounds of the Fire Division being unsuited for more specialized tasks, being more of a general combat unit. "Something doesn't seem right here though," Lavender arched an eyebrow as she went over Hiro's memo a second time. "Without a date attached to this thing, how can we tell whether Tsukasa-san issued this memo before or after he went rogue? Though assuming it's the former, it looks like Hiro has been investigating into a possible scheme by our enemies," the aeromancer mused as she carefully placed the documents back into their folder. "But I must admit, I am more than a little surprised that you'd recommend that we try to issue an order to bring them in alive at all costs," Lavender continued; she'd known the magus hunter long enough to understand that Miyuki was a woman of pragmatism, and would sooner eliminate a threat than to endanger her own teammates trying to contain it alive, even if said "threat" was a friend. "But I see a point to this; if they've discovered some useful leads before they got turned, we need to procure the information at all costs - that is a calculated risk I am willing to take," Lavender nodded as she tucked the file under her arm, a determined blaze lighting up her eyes. "And I see wisdom in Tsukasa-san's order for a change - if it's a trap, a mass mobilization of Arcadia's operatives could see the enemy take us down in one fell swoop, but with small groups, as long as we pass vital information around, one group can take over where the previous one failed," the aeromancer remarked as she went over to a nearby reloading bench to clear her weapon - removing the magazine of her sidearm and cocking the weapon to eject any round that might be left in the chamber, pulling the trigger to make doubly sure, before finally engaging the safety to return the pistol to her holster. "So that being said... it's clear there's a mastermind behind all of this," the aeromancer looked at Miyuki in the eyes, resting a hand on her hip. From what she knew about the attacks on Hyakuji, she figured it didn't take a genius to deduce that Hyakuji's defenders-turned-despoilers were but just pieces in an elaborate scheme, and that at the heart of it all there was a chessmaster behind it. "And in the light of this, are there any other things I need to know? Like any leads on their suspected bases of operations?" |

Miyuki shook her head. "None at the moment. Some traffic cameras tracked them as they left, but footage was lost very quickly as they left. Radars can track aircraft, but airborne people is another matter. There was no AWACS from the Self-Defence force available to commandeer at the time in anycase." It was occasionally hard to gauge how she felt, but the dour expression and tilted head seemed to be telling Lavender that right now, Arcadia needed to do something proactive rather than reactive as it normally did. "The memo is indeed questionable, however I wouldn't put it past him honestly, given he is prone to such things." she reminded Lavender Hiro had only some time before gotten labeled a rogue agent again, after doing exactly that. "But the point stands that, if whatever it is was powerful enough to corrupt Commander Tsukasa, then the typical Fire Division operative would stand no chance of resisting it should it try to take over him after killing him. I once dealt with the aftermath of some church knights in a similar situation. They'd annihilated most of their team before I'd even arrived." It was easy to forget that, while not a powerful magus, Miyuki was also a specialist in the field, and once worked for the most dreaded of the Clock Tower's various subgroups for a reason. Her prior experience extended beyond Arcadia afterall. "As for a place to start, I would recommend taking some personnel you feel you can trust, and then investigating his last few mission sites. His travel logs are also there, as much as it surprises me that he keeps such a thing." |

"A pity; because if they are but pawns in another's schemes the easiest way to track them down to their mastermind's suspected base of operations would be to follow one of the rogues," Lavender shook her head in slight disappointment as Miyuki revealed that unfortunately there were but a few captured footages of Hyakuji's fallen heroes, none of which managed to track their movements. "And here's where some good ol' recon is needed, seeing how electronic surveillance wasn't of any help this time round," the aeromancer added. And Lavender was glad that her confidence in Miyuki's abilities was well-founded, as the arcane marksman similarly found the memo by Hiro to be rather questionable, although neither women would put it past Hiro to resort to misinformation to throw investigators off his trail whenever he was up to shady business. "Point taken; I'd hate to think what kind of diabolical force could corrupt a magus of Tsukasa-san's caliber," the aeromancer mused as Miyuki shared her own experiences of a similar encounter, a grim warning of how terribly things could go wrong if they weren't well-prepared. "Well, for trustworthy agents... that could prove challenging," Lavender remarked as she scratched the back of her head slightly upon Miyuki's recommendation that she form a small task force comprising of Arcadian operatives she found the most trustworthy. "See, it's not that I doubt the character of the Hyakuji students who joined Arcadia... most of them anyway; but problem is the attachments that Tsukasa-san's students have formed towards him," the aeromancer sighed, shrugging before pacing back and forth a few times. As far as she was concerned, most of the students in Arcadia possessed upstanding character - but their emotional attachments toward Hiro could prove problematic if they allowed their sentiments to get the better of their judgment. "That's why if I were to hand-pick my task force for this assignment, I'd start with you, Miyuki-san," Lavender nodded as she patted the magus on the shoulder. "Your field experience in Arcadia operations predate mine, and I could use another cool head on my team, one who isn't likely to allow sentiments to cloud the better part of their judgment. And in addition, you have good eyes and steady hands to compliment my quick hands and sharp reflexes." While Lavender could count the number of missions she'd worked together with Miyuki on with her hands and still have fingers left over, she'd no doubt that the safest place for an Arcadian out in the field was where the magus hunter was covering within the scope of a rifle. Other possible candidates the aeromancer would consider for this task force would include Seth Ryouga, Lucy Chulainn... and probably a handful of others. "Of course, unless you're wanted elsewhere by BOARD. But either way, you're right. Whatever information that'd been passed to me here needs to be disseminated amongst Arcadia's Prime Division... though honestly-speaking it feels like I'm kinda alone in this, seeing how time is simply a luxury we can't afford right now." |

"As flattered as I am that you'd consider me for the task, I'm afraid that liaison duties preclude the time to undertake my usual duties for the Water Division." Miyuki said, seemingly bowing in apology "And to think I was starting to enjoy my new, quiet lifestyle as well." "However, if you don't believe you have time, then perhaps it may work to go alone, quietly, under cover. It's dangerous, but you will likely generate less attention this way. There are times where, even if it's reckless, it is occasionally necessary to do such things, and I presume you of all people would be more careful than our former commander." The intelligence officer smiled thinly at that, as if to say that she trusted Lavender's judgment far more than she ever trusted Hiro's. Edited by Katyusha, Aug 11 2014, 11:58 AM.

"No worries, it's perfectly understandable you have equally important duties to carry out," Lavender added as Miyuki expressed her condolence over not being able to sign herself up for the aeromancer's task force, citing that her duties as a liaison for both organizations unfortunately take priority over her Water Division role. And then Miyuki would go on to suggest that if there was a need to act fast, Lavender could act first on her own. "Normally I'd say this is a bad idea and that one would need to operate in pairs at the very least," Lavender continued, resting a hand on her chin. "But again I guess if we're to keep this low-key to prevent the enemy from getting in on what we're planning... I suppose a solo mission would be the way to go." After all, if this operation were to be successful, it would be vital to learn all they can about the enemy and then strike when they least expect it. "Moreover, with Arcadia having a history of security breaches and moles, I can see how a mass mobilization of our resources are unlikely to go unnoticed by our enemies. That would only serve to startle the snake in the grass, and might very well compromise our operations. Well, guess if you need a job done right you gotta do it yourself," While it was easy to see Hero's tendency to embark on solo operations as foolish heroics, in hindsight Lavender figured there was probably some wisdom to it due to Arcadia's past reputation for security breaches, moles and bureaucratic red tape. "Well then Miyuki-san, I wish you all the best with operations on BOARD's side," Lavender smiled as she fondly patted the arcane gunslinger on the shoulder one past time. "Me? I've got some preparations to make, starting with making sure this information gets disseminated to the Prime Division," the aeromancer chorused, holding up the file. "I'll catch you again if - no - when our operation is successful. Drinks are on me as a celebration... so until then, ciao." |
