Golden Lion - He Who Roars
It all seemed very quiet today, even as he leaned far back against a bench inside the gazebo, he couldn't help but a feel a bit lonely. A few students surrounded him, they were all outside the gazebo though, enjoying the lakeside view. The greenery around was lush and well up kept, beautiful really but it seemed almost contaminated without others to enjoy it with.

He felt the ghostly touch of the lion: Soule, as he nudged his nose against his side, the beast laying on the floor next to him. He touched the small cub, who was visible only to him and held an almost heavenly glow to his lynx-sized body, and he made a guttural sound.

"Relax, Soule. I'm not all that lonely when you're next to me." He explained quietly. It had become a habit of his to speak lowly whenever conversing with the animal. He was an alien after all, and even among all the freaks and demons that ended up at the school, it was still considered weird to talk to yourself.

Soule expressed a similar sentiment, a lion-esque smile spreading his large jowls. It wasn't long before his snores could heard beside him.

The expression made Narku smirk. When he really looked on at the lake, the sun was hitting it in a rare way. The light was making the water sparkle like rainbow diamonds, the colors floating just above the surface like a mythical fog.

He frowned at his next thought, it would had been better if he actually had some solid friends to share it with. His golden eyes shifted to the left then to the right. People were grouped up like it meant survival or death. Whenever he really focused, like really hard, he could actually see his life without interactions. It was a lonely existence.

A stray thought crossed his mind though, he really enjoyed the academy uniform. The brown vest was tossed over his crisp white shirt, his tie loosely tightened around his neck. The only real complaint he had was that the sleeves were a bit long. Folding his arms around his chest, spreading his legs out and crossing them at the ankle; he let out a sigh and focused in on the lake.

"You know, some people might think you're crazy if they see you talking to yourself." Shin drawled out as he leaned against one of the pillars of the gazebo. "Not me of course, I can relate to having other voices in your head." Shin let out a small chuckle as he compared his demonic tenant to simple schizophrenia. "Let it be known boy, that if I am ever freed from you I will make your suffering a thing of legend." The dark voice of Malphas growled inside Shin's head. "Oh be quiet Malphas, grown-ups are talking." Shin thought back at his ill-tempered tenant.

Why was he here you ask? Well what began as a simple jog around the lake led into a investigation as Shin happened to spy another student seemingly talking to himself. He couldn't hear the words but he could see the boy's lips move and he seemed to be talking to himself. Shin being the curious boy that he is wanted to investigate and maybe make a friend in the process.

Shin pushed himself off the pillar and walked over to the other youth. "Name's Shin and if you don't mind me asking, who were you talking to?" He tilted his head to the side. "I'll tell you about my voice if you tell me about yours.

Narku's eyes widen a bit as he jolted up onto the bench, his stretched legs pulling into a formal sitting position at the same time. With the soles of his feet on the ground, Narku unraveled his arms from his chest and rested his hands on the edge of bench he was sitting on.

For a moment he looked over the guy, wondering just how much he had seen or heard. Maybe it was possible to play it off. He wrenched his eyes from the male's, letting them fall back onto the lake in front of him as he sauntered towards him.

It was funny, he was just wishing that he had someone to share this beautiful scenery with and now he had someone. If only he could get over this hardened shyness. Narku glanced over to Soule; who was now standing on all four and staring at the boy, though Shin wouldn't know it.

An expression of wry came over the animal and transferred over to Narku. He let out a small chuckle from Soule's concern. A moment later, he finally looked up towards the boy, his own golden eyes filled with little to no emotion. "You shouldn't go around assuming things." He told him, turning his eyes back towards the lake.

It was really weird hearing himself be so crude. Inside he reprimanded himself but out on the open it was hard to express the sentiment. He glanced over at Shin, thinking that he may be a bit confused. "Narku though, my names Narku." He told the guy, trying fix the mishap and keep him there.

Shin smirked and flopped down beside the other boy. "Well Narku-san, you seem to be forgetting that we are teenagers, and teenagers have a habit of assuming things." He let out a relaxed sigh, remaining silent for a few moments enjoying the view of the lake alongside the other boy. "Malphas." He started. "His name is Malphas, my voice I mean." He tapped the side of his head for emphasis. He's a..... spirit that gives me my powers." His pause was because he wasn't sure the other boy would react well to Shin telling him that he was hosting a demon lord inside his body. So he hoped Narku would react better to the idea of Shin hosting a spirit instead.
Thanks to him I can do this." He made a motion with his hand and a tendril of shadow sprang up infront of him. The end of the tendril morphed into the rough shape of a hand and waved at Narku before retreating back into the ground.

Shin turned to the other boy. "What about you?" He questioned the lion-eared youth. "I can tell you aren't a Nekomata so what are you? If you don't mind me asking?"

Well if nothing else, Shin was right about the teenager thing. Most of them did assume, it was in their nature and of course being human didn't help the matter. He held in a small chuckle before returning Shin's words with two nods. "Never met one that actually admits to it though."

For a moment, it was the lakeside view and Soule's occasional snores that kept him company. It was rather peaceful and noticeably better to have someone to share the scenery with. The sapphire color of the lake had been thrown into shadows due to the clouds that was passing above, giving it a chilling and relaxed filling. Narku covertly glanced over towards Shin, trying to remain unnoticed.

But it seemed he had failed. Just as his eyes had touched met the boy's cheek, Shin suddenly said "Malphas.". It was so abrupt that it had stabbed the silence and made Narku feel a bit rushed. He quickly fixed his eyes back on the lake, only to hear Shin continue to explain that it was his spirit and that it gave him powers. This new guy Shin was really trusting, that would probably come back to bite him in the butt one day.

As Shin's hand motioned into the air, a tendril of shadow rose off the ground and waved "hello" to him. Narku couldn't help but cock his head at the semi-weird action. Sometimes, his animal instincts would come to the forefront and show itself. After a few quick seconds of looking at it, Narku waved back and smiled. He could feel it becoming a bit easier to talk with Shin, probably because of his blatant uncaring for his own secrets.

After the hand had left, Narku sat back down, being sure to not alert Soule or rouse him from his slumber. The big-cat really hated it when he awaken from a good day's sleep, seeing as he staid up most of the night keeping watch over him.

Narku hadn't noticed it, but while he was thinking about Soule, his head had been turned towards the Lion; laying at his feet away from Shin. Well perhaps he didn't notice it. He turned his eyes back to the lake as a fluctuation of conflicting emotions fought inside his head about telling Shin.

With a sigh, Narku stuffed his hands into his pockets and leaned off the back of the bench. "I'm what you might call an alien, this isn't my home moon."

"An alien?" Shin raised an eyebrow at this. He had encountered demons, ghosts and monsters, but this is his first time ever meeting an alien.
"Huh, that's interesting." He murmured. "Well I suppose it would weird if you were enrolled at any other school." He gestured to the other students milling about the lakeside. "But here you blend right in." He turned back towards Narku. "So mister alien." He gave Narku a wry smile. "Do you come in peace? Or should I welcome our new alien overlords?"
He let out another chuckle at that. "Just kidding." He pushed himself off the bench. "So what's your planet like? Do you have a kick-ass spaceship?" He questioned, curious about Narku's species.

Shin had taken the news a bit better than he had thought. It was a good thing too cause he wasn't sure if he had the patience to deal with ignorance today. He smirked at Shin's question about coming in peace or not, of course, even if he hadn't; didn't their movies always include the death of the first person knowing about the aliens. If that was the case, then Shin wouldn't fair out too well.

Narku's face fell into a solemn grimace as returned to his lazed posture, his legs stretched out and his arms folded against his arms. He shrugged his shoulders at Shin's question of his species.

He really had no idea, it wasn't like he was left with a manual of his origins. Hell, all really got was a name. Sitting on the screen of his pod, written in a foreign language above, then in a series of earth languages below was his name:"Narku".

He let out a sad sigh before sitting up and rubbing the back of his neck. "Just compare me to your Superman or something," He muttered softly. "I came here with little less than a fragment of my memory. All I know is that we look similar and I'm very disgusted with how you all treat Gaia."

Feeling the air around him growing a bit humid, most likely from his thoughts about how the humans treated their environment, he tried to calm himself. His flames tended to flow with his anger, so it was imperative that he remained cool, more or less.

"What about you?" He wondered. "Who's this Malphas?"

"Very well then, you are Superman and catnip is your kryptonite". Shin grinned, making a joke at his companion's feline appearance.

Shin still didn't drop his smile when Narku voiced his disgust at his fellow human's treatment of the environment. (He also took note of the sudden rise in humidity but filed that piece of information away for later.) He instead raised his hands in a warding gesture. "Hey now don't look at me. I admit that us monkeys don't do as much as we should for the environment, but I recycle dammit! And I'm a big pusher for renewable energy."

When Narku questioned him about Malphas Shin's ever-present smile dropped for a fraction of a second before returning. "Oh he's just a spirit that I ended up bonding with by accident." Shin lied, not comfortable telling Narku the truth behind his bond with the demon. "It's kinda a boring story, you know." He rotated his wrist as if to say "it's pretty mundane". "I just picked up an old trinket and then poof. Congrats you've got a spirit." Shin closed his eyes as if he was reliving a memory. "He's rather friendly actually, but I'm the only one he can talk to." Shin continued to lie as Malphas, angry at Shin's description of him threatened to carve out Shin's heart and eat it in front of his mother. Was he going to tell Narku that he was bonded to one of the most powerful demons in the Makai, no. Was he going to tell him that he spent his whole life training to kill non-humans like him, Hell freaking no.
So Shin would lie. He would lie through his teeth in an effort to befriend others. He doubted anyone would want to befriend a trained killer, so he will keep that aspect of himself quiet for as long as he can and continue to act goofy and trusting.

Narku let out a shallow breath and kept his eyes on the lake. "That's what they all say," He uttered in response to Shin's claim about recycling. It seemed like the humans could easily curve their planet's destruction with a few mundane actions. If they weren't so lazy than perhaps the planet would be doing better.

With a silent awe, Narku looked as the lake was slowly touched by four pillars of sunlight. Pieces of heat that was finding their ways through the crevices in the clouds.

Narku had removed his eyes from the lake, but he could hear the male's voice fluctuate when it came to Malphas. He decided not to pry to far, it wasn't his issues nor did it warrant prodding but if Narku had to guess, than he'd say that Shin wasn't as happy as he was showing.

Maybe, if Shin was to be his friend, if that little glimmer of interaction could blossom into a friendship, perhaps it would be best to establish a fact. A simple rule of thumb to follow when around him. ". . . It doesn't really matter. You seem really genuine so I'm comfortable with being around you," He told him, unfolding his arms and standing up from the bench. He turned to stand in front of Shin and held out his hand towards the guy, his golden eyes sorta shifting from Shin's stare. "I wouldn't mind having you as a friend, but just remember that its alright if you don't smile."

Shin winced inwardly when Narku stated that he found him genuine. "Not telling him about the family business if I can help it." He thought.
However his smile grew when Narku offered his hand and friendship. Taking the cat-boy's hand in his own, he gave it a shake. "I'd like that Narku." Shin responded, genuinely touched by the offer of friendship.
When Narku told him that he didn't need to smile all the time, Shin shrugged. "I smile because it makes it easier to deal with things."

He released the Feilcian's hand and turned back towards the lake. A thought popped into his head. "Hey Narku." He started. "Are there any other of your species on Earth?"

Shin clasped his hand, joining them in the literary contract of a friendship. Though, perhaps not that serious, Narku couldn't help but smile - a charming, almost inhumanly beautiful smirk- at the guy. He felt Soule's own emotions travel through him. It was more or less a mixture of congrats and warning to still be on alert.

Yea, I know. Don't worry, I'm not letting my guard down for anyone. Not even a guy that seems to be as happy-go-luck as Shin, He told Soule.

Pulling his hand from Shin's, Narku said. "Cool...For a second there I actually thought it would be hard to make friends, guess I was wrong." He uttered before stuffing his hands into his pockets and directing his gaze back towards the lake.

The scenery had gained an almost vibrant intensity to him now. Now that he had someone to share it with that was. Shin's question about others of his kind possibly being on earth, sent a familiar pang of hurt in the deepest parts of his heart. It was a question that he asked himself often. If he was alone or not? If he was last of his kind or just some throwaway?

Narku hid his hurt with astonishing ease. All he did was shrug and keep his expression as perfect as it was before the question had been asked. "Hell, who knows. Its not like I'm going to scour the earth looking for people with cat ears and a taste for kibble," He jested stonily.

He took a few lazy steps forwards to hide the sudden anger that he could feel filing away at his impassioned mask. With the will of mind, he wrapped his tail around his waist so that Shin wouldn't have to look at it. "Besides," He said, turning to look at Shin from over his shoulder. "If there is more of us, where better a place to find them than here? A refuge for all the oddities of the world, all the true flowers that blooms."
