Loretta was arriving back at school after a weekend with her mother. Even though her mother was at work most of the weekend, it was still nice to be around a normal person. She was so tired of everything at this school going crazy, whether it be crazy students, crazy teachers, or crazy monsters. Deep down, she just wanted to be around other normal teenagers.

Loretta also had yet to make any friends at this school yet, even though she had been going to this school for a while. At this news, her mother was not satisfied. She wanted her daughter to have a good time, but it seemed Loretta was avoiding it. Loretta felt left out, weak, and useless without powers, especially being around all of these people with them. She still could not understand why her father's dying wish was for her to be placed in this school, even if it meant transferring her halfway into the school year.

But Loretta didn't argue, and neither did her mother. It was too painful of a time. They were a bit over it now, having had time to recover and rebuild there lives. Since the campus had dorms, Loretta moved there, leaving her mother to her work, save for a few visits. But now, here she was, back in front of this school. This boring girl, in front of an amazing school, filled with more amazing people.

It was time for Loretta to keep a promise she made to her mother and at least make one good friend. And Loretta was determined to do that right now, whoever it might be. She strode down the path towards the dorms, not quickly as to avoid people, and not a slow awkwardness, but with a curious gait to her. She searched ahead on the path for any other people, ready to strike up a conversation with the first person she passed, praying that they at least LOOKED normal.

Whistling a small tune Shin walked down the road away from the dorms. He was due to start classes at Hyakuji tomorrow but had arrived a week early in order to become familiar with the town and get set up in the dorms.
The only downside was that he hadn't met anyone yet. The usually cheerful boy was feeling slightly down.

He tilted his head back and clasped his hands behind his back. "Well at least its a nice day." He spoke aloud to no one in particular. Since he was looking up at the sky and not in front of him Shin nearly bumped into someone else. "Woah I'm sorry there." He apologised to the other person, jumping to the side to avoid crashing into them. "Kinda dosed off there." He gave a polite bow "My name is Shin Nayana, pleased to meet you." He stood up straight "Might I have your name?"

It may have seemed like he nearly bumped into someone, but Loretta walked straight up to him to start a conversation. While walking, she had spotted someone, who looked almost normal. Yeah, the white hair seemed way off, but hell, it was Japan. She strode straight up to him, waiting to see what his crazy power might be.

Loretta was a bit startled that she got so close without him noticing. "Yes, A lovely day." she responded to his open ended statement. She smiled up at him, half regretting talking to anyone. She liked her norm routine. It never got her in trouble and has never caused trouble. Not yet at least.

"No! It's no problem at all." she insisted. She didn't want to reveal that she was actually approaching him. "It's all right. Kinda distracting how nice it is outside. My name is Loretta Sybille Ferdinanda. Nice to meet you. What's your power?" she asked in a very straight forward way.

Loretta had to. Or else she might never know. Darn near everyone at the school had powers. She had yet to find anyone that didn't, other then her. Just because he looked normal, didn't mean he was.

Shin raised a eyebrow at the girl's request. "My powers?" He asked as a small smile found its way onto his face. "My, my Ferdinanda-san how forward of you." He chuckled. "Such an intimate question and we just met." His posture relaxed and he made a motion with his hand.
Two tendrils of shadow sprung up, one behind Loretta and another behind him. With another motion the two tendrils each shaped themselves into a simple chair. It was a simple shape merely an elevated L to serve as a seat and backrest.
Shin sat on the chair that he created behind him and made a gesture for Loretta to do the same. "My powers mostly revolve around the manipulation of shadows, for attack and defence." He raised his hand and conjured his sword Oblivion and held it to the light as if inspecting the demonic blade. "I'm also a pretty decent swordsman."
He dismissed his blade and turned back to Loretta, his smile still present. "What about you? Do you have any outstanding abilities that caused you to come here?"

The two other students would suddenly hear the bushes near the front entrance rustle, followed by the sound of someone yawning. And then, rising up next to them, rubbing his eye, was a tall, blonde, heavily scarred, one-eyed boy. He looked a bit older than most of the students in Hyakuji, and his uniform was certainly a bit... scruffier. His hair had the telltale signs of bedhead, along with more than a few leaves.

He would stretch out for a moment, still yawning, and shake his head some. When he was finished, he'd finally open his eye, looking at the other two students. "Ah, 'ello there, laddie n' lassie! Certainly hope I didn't interrupt yer conversation there. How's this fine mornin' treatin' ye?"

Loretta grimaced a smile. He was definitely not normal. Not really a smile. Normal people don't control shadows. Definitely a grimace. She thought she was smiling. Loretta was a bit disappointed he wasn't normal, but it was exactly what she expected. She fixed her face into a more agreeable half smile.

"Please, do forgive me if I do not sit down on the, uhm...... shadow chair." she said with a polite bow. "I guess I apologize for being so forward, I honestly don't see why it is a faux pas to ask. And well, as for me, none. I haven't a single power. Nothing about me is special." she said with a reaffirming nod.

Loretta's nod was frozen mid way, her head hanging down as the bushes next to them rustled.... and then yawned noisily? She looked over and was a little amused to see someone rising from them. Less so when she saw how huge and.... the polite thing would be interesting looking. She couldn't help but to stare an indecent amount of time before literally shaking her gaze away. "U-uh, no! Not at all. Just a casual conversation of strangers here sir. Perhaps you may even join us!" she said sarcastically, but in a shocked, no brain to mouth filter way. "I am doing splendid-ish. Yourself?"

"I seem to have unnerved her." Shin thought to himself after seeing the girl grimace at the sight of his shadows and her refusal to sit down. He sighed, stood up and dismissed his shadows.
"No powers at all you say?" Shin asked. "That's quite odd, I was under the impression that this school specifically catered to those with unique attributes." He shrugged. "Well in any case I apologise if my own abilities made you uncomfortable."

He froze when he heard a rustling form the nearby bush, subtly dropping into a combat stance in preparation for an attack. He then slipped out of his stance feeling a bit silly as he noticed that it was simply another student if their uniform was any indication.
"I'm quite fine, thank you." Shin responded with a polite bow. He then took notice of the condition of the newcomer. "Are you o.k though? You seem to have a bit of.." He made a gesture to his hair. "Stuff there."

Matt would quickly ruffle his hair a few times to knock out the leaves, a smile coming to his face. "I'm doin' rather well, if I must say so meself. Especially since this new alarm system works out so well for me!"

He'd let his hair settle into a slightly less disheveled mess, smiling all the while. "Anywho. The name's Matthew Hazemen, and it's a pleasure ta meet the both of ye!"

Loretta shook her head. She didn't intentionally try to make Shin feel bad, but she couldn't help it. For someone normal, all these powers were just plain bizarre. But still, that did not give her the excuse to be rude, making her feel bad. Loretta frowned and kicked the dirt a bit. "Er, sorry if I made you feel bad." she said, not quite sure what else to add.

"But yes. No powers at all. Just a regular girl. I don't know why, but my dad's dying wish was for me to go here. Not sure why. Me and mom think he might have had it mixed up with another school or something. But we have no idea." she said, a little glumly, but not visibly showing a hint of sadness.

Loretta looked the behemoth up and down and was instantly convinced that this guy had to have powers. It was obvious he had been in a few tussles at least. "Well my name is Loretta Sybille Ferdinanda, and this gentlemen here has introduced himself as Shin Nayana. Pleased to meet you. You say alarm system. You mean some sort of power?"

"Hmm just a regular girl you say?" Shin tilted his head to the side. As far as he could tell she was correct. He couldn't feel any supernatural power off her. So unless she was very good at suppressing it, she was telling the truth.

He shrugged and turned to the older student. "An alarm system you say? Do you mind if I take a look?" Shin inquired, he had to admit he was interested. He didn't recall tripping any wires or triggering anything that could set of an alarm.
So either this newcomer was very good at setting triggers, or he was using some sort of magic. Both interested Shin greatly as they could be new tricks he could add to his repertoire of dirty tricks.

Matt would grin widely as both of the other students asked about his alarm system, chuckling some as he did so. "Nah, not anything fancy or the like. Ya see, I don't quite understand that strange number box people keep on sayin' is a clock, and how it can be made to make some sort o' sound at any time you want so it can wake ye up. So I had to take alternate measures to wake up in time fer classes here. In short, I just creep on over here, plop meself down in the bushes to sleep, and then wait fer the sound of students arriving to wake me up!"

He would chuckle for a moment long while shaking his head. "So no powers on that one. Don't get me wrong, don't mean that I don't have 'em. But, ya know, present company considered, allow me a bit o' thought that ye might not believe me on them."

Loretta chuckled a bit, looking between the large one who called himself Matthew and the bush that he had so recently called bed. She put it together in her head and let out another chuckle. "So, no offense, but the complexities of an alarm clock escape you? Have you tried getting someone to wake you up in your dorm, that way you can sleep in your bed? Maybe set up a wake-up call?" she offered her suggestions.

And back to the conversation about powers. Loretta nodded about his statement of her lack of powers and smirked at his statements about powers. "That is a good assumption. But that doesn't mean I won't listen. I am sure you are probably dubious about my lack of powers." she said a bit accusingly.

"It doesn't matter to me if you have powers or not." Shin answered. "They don't define you. As a matter of fact I only gained mine a few months ago." He turned to Loretta and offered her a slip of paper with his phone number on it. "But I will ask you to be careful Ferdinanda-san. This place has a reputation for being a nexus of paranormal activity." His voice gained a hint of steel. "If you ever find yourself in some trouble don't hesitate to give me a call."
It was then that Shin's stomach gave off a little growl of hunger. Blushing slightly form embarrassment Shin looked away from the others. "Well then it seems I must be off. Do either of you know any good places for a meal and would you care to join me?" He asked, somewhat hoping he could manage to walk away form here with a few new friends.

Matt would shake his head some as the other two tried to prod him into telling them about his powers, smile still on his face. "Nah, lass. I wouldn't doubt that ye don't have powers. After all, I didn't start out with any, and normal people do make up most o' the Earth. Contrary to what some folks believe, not everyone can be special."

He would pause for a moment after that, tilting his head slightly as if in thought. "Though I suppose I don't have much room to talk about that, now do I? Also, even by most outlandish standards, my powers are.... Difficult to believe. But if the both of ye would like to know just what they are, I suppose I can explain."

He would clap his hands together at that point, rubbing them together excitedly. "So, this story starts o'er a hundred or so years ago, in Glasgow. There was this boy, ye see. Stuck in an orphanage, with a bunch of other parentless ponces. One day, this boy just snaps when his food gets stolen from him by another orphan. So suddenly, he just leaps on the other kid, and starts tryin' to choke him out, to teach him a lil' lesson in proper food rights."

Matt would stop for a moment, Shin's growling stomach intervening while he was quiet. The homunculus would burst into laughter at that point. "Ach, yer timin's perfect there, laddie! I suppose we could try and find a place to eat, but I'll tell ye now, it's mostly an optional thing for me. Eatin', that is. Me particular variations upon the normal human template have rendered it pointless fer anything but pleasure. Hell of a time gettin' those alchemical reactions sorted out, let me tell you!"

Loretta nodded an agreement to Shin and Matt. "Oh I understand that. I know that the powers don't define everyone. But I am sure it makes it a damn bit more convenient on some things. Or even making things more troublesome. Either way, I guess what I am saying is that it makes things interesting." she said with a realizing nod to herself.

Loretta graciously took the slip with the number. "Thank you. I know things can get a tad bit hairy here so I will definitely hold on to it. Thanks again." She knew if it came to it, she could not defend herself from anything, so having a protector would be nice.

She listened with interest to Matt's story, at least the beginning. Only a few seconds in there was a grumbling. A stomach growl. Loretta laughed a bit. "I agree, perfect timing. While I am not starved, I think I can handle a bite, so I will accompany you two gentlemen." she said with a smile. "Along the way, we can learn about Matthew's powers and his... lack of need to eat?" she ended, not quite sure where she was going with it in the first place.
