Whelp. . . this is it. Hyakuji High School. The school dad told me about and enrolled me in. The school that's supposedly amuck with supernatural occurrences. Set in the country of Japan. . . and me, all alone in an entirely new world without a good grasp on the language.

A sigh.

"Wunderbar. . ."

Name: Lucian L. Regal

A young man with blond hair and gray-blue eyes stood in the school grounds of the massive sprawling school, the large gates of iron open to the world behind him. Clad in the typical Hyakuji High uniform, the only other thing that stood out on his person were the two flasks he had on him, and the white dress gloves he had on. While the stylized sun rising from up under the horizon on the backs were nice, that was about it in terms of what was off about him. Well, aside from the look of exhaustion. Plus the eyes that seemed to be darting every which way.

Lucian had not been having a good day. On top of arriving late, due to some air traffic shenanigans, he hadn't slept well, and the scheduel for his new classes somehow got miss-mailed. As far as first days were going? He definitely was not having a good one. He didn't want to be late for class, but the place was so flipping big! Seriously, he hadn't seen a school this big ever. How was he supposed to find his classes in a place like this?! He knew what they were, but he had no idea how to navigate the frigging place!

"Dear lord almighty, I'm gonna need a frigging miracle to solve this problem. . ."

A miracle, he said.

Well, there was no need to fear, because-

Because Natsumi was here? That didn't quite work. She wasn't a miracle worker. She wasn't grumpy, either, but helping out fresh transfer meat was a bit outside her comfort zone.

Fiddling with the ribbon on her uniform as she shuffled past on her way to class, Natsumi stifled a yawn.

It wasn't as if she didn't sympathize.

She was a freshman too, and the guy had an awfully pitiful look on his face - the totally-lost look.

On the other hand, you know, he was kind of sketchy, what with his twitchy eyes. Not to mention the weird gloves. Maybe it was best to pass him by entirely. Someone else would help him. Like, in a few minutes. Any time now.

...

Natsumi sighed. She was so going to be late.

She turned around.

"Good morning." She stuck her hands into the pockets of her sweater vest, and looked him up and down, one more time. Mostly up. Gloves guy was a lot taller up close. "Um, you new?" She paused. "Need some help?"

Attempting to rub the sleep out of his eyes, Lucian suppressed a groan of dismay and exhaustion. Right. It didn't help to just be standing around. He had to do something or he'd go insane! Even if he didn't know where his classes were, maybe he'd get lucky and find them searching around? Yeah! That sounded like a much better idea than just standing there like some kind of weird, stalker person! Perfect. Now... if only he could muster up the energy to move. Put your right foot in front of your left-

"Good morning."

Having his mental train of thought run smack dab into the side of a mountain was not something Lucian was expecting. Freezing, blinking, and turning to whoever had just spoken to him. Sounded like a girl, now that the mental cobwebs were set on fire. Facing the girl, after he looked down a bit, he was met with brown eyes and black hair. As well as a face that didn't look like she was entirely sure she wanted to do this. Blinking owlishly, Lucian stayed silent for a moment.

"Um, you new?"

Blinking again, a bit more rapidly this time, Lucian was still silent. The girl tried once more.

"Need some help?"

The mental gears finaaalllyyy slipped into place. It was odd, while he could understand Japanese to a fairly well degree, he was still pretty green speaking it. Oh well. Nodding his head and holding up a singular finger to signal the universal sign of 'one moment', Lucian quickly turned around. He looked up, a singular tear dropping from his eye.

"Thank you oh lord, for answering my prayers!!"

He declared in english. While his father and mother had taken him to church when they could, growing up, Lucian hadn't really felt all that connected to that side of his family. Maybe this was a sign!?

Turning back around quickly, Lucian spoke in Japanese, using the basic words he did know how to say. He was going to see if he could cover up his faulty Japanese for the time being. It would be a bit embarassing for him if that got out. . . Though he suspected it would iron itself out the longer he stayed.

"Yes. Very. . . lost."

Lucian spoke, trying to not trip over his own tongue. Hopefully he would only come off as some crazy foreigner. . .

Wait. Was that any better?

Natsumi blinked. Her eyebrows dropped low, and her mouth curved into a small smile, despite herself.

"I can speak English too," she said, this time in English. Bit of an accent, but recognizable. "Er, pretty- pretty good? I went to English school, you know!"

Granted, she wasn't the best in her class (she'd thought extra classes during the night were pretty stupid), and she'd kinda skimmed over the part about foreign customs a bit - there was the whole powers thing that she'd been concerned about - but she was sure she knew enough to deal with this guy.

She stuck out her hand. Foreigners did the handshake thing, right?

"I'm Natsumi."

Wait, she was going to be late for class. And so was he. Her hand remained out, but she kept talking.

"Um, do you have your schedule?"

"I can speak English too, er, pretty- pretty good? I went to English school, you know!"

Blinking, Lucian felt like smacking himself in the face. He promptly did so. Having the side effect of waking Lucian up more, he groaned something out.

"Oh. That's right. Japanese schools have English classes. I'm more out of it than I thought. . ."

Why didn't English, both the American and the English English, schools have more varied languages taught!? Sure, Spanish and French were all well and good, but there weren't any Asian languages available! You typically had to go to clubs to learn them or something of the like, he knew an Anime club he visited a few times during his own tenure at High School taught something like that, but they only met so many times during the week, and sometimes it got interrupted by some occurrence.

Mental rant interrupted by the Japanese girl sticking her hand out, she spoke once more, with a small smile on her face.

"I'm Natsumi."

Nodding in thanks, Lucian responded in turn.

"Regal, Lucian Regal, at your service."

Grasping and shaking said hand, Lucian allowed himself a smile as well. Well. Looked like today wouldn't be a total train wreck after all. Hopefully. Murphy seemed to have it out for him, after all.

"Um, do you have your schedule?"

Freezing mid-handshake-motion, Lucian's eye twitched.

FFFFFFFFFFF-

"I was mailed it, but something happened on its way to where I was staying! I never got it! I know the names of the classes, but I have no clue where they are!"

Freezing mid-freakout, Lucian sharply turned to Natsumi.

"You wouldn't happen to know where a class called Survival Studies, Supernatural Studies, or History are located, would you?"

Okay, okay.

Just because she went to a English grammar school at night for, like, a couple years before Hyakuji didn't mean she could understand all of Lucian's babbling!

"I- what?" Natsumi looked down - he was still mid-handshake. Was this something that foreigners usually did? Especially ones that wore weird gloves that were now rubbing against her skin? "If you lost your schedule, then at least you know your classes."

"I'm in..." She hesitated, then copied his pronunciation to the best of her ability. "...Supernatural Studies, so we can head toward- towards- toward-"

Hmm.

She could feel heat creeping up her cheeks as she stumbled over the word. "Um," she said for the third or fourth time in a couple minutes, and lapsed back into Japanese. "Maybe we can meet halfway on the language barrier. After all, you speak very... um, very good Japanese."

Liar.

"I- what?"

Lucian's eyes still held the unnaturally piercing and serious glint as from a few seconds agon. The oddest part was that he was silent throughout it all. The grip Lucian had on her hand wasn't a deathgrip or anything, but it still remained rather firm.

"If you lost your schedule, then at least you know your classes."

Natsumi kept going,

"I'm in... Supernatural Studies, so we can head toward- towards- toward-"

"Right! That's perfect!"

Somehow, Lucian had disengaged the handshake at what could only be called light-speed. His right fist met the open palm of his left, kinda like a gavel would meet... Whatever that wood thing a gavel hits. Seriously, what are those things called?

"Um, maybe we can meet halfway on the language barrier. After all, you speak very... um, very good Japanese."

Snorting at the last statement, but nodding, Lucian's smile transformed into a full-on grin.

"Heh, I know I suck at it right now, but I was hoping to work on it over the semesters so I didn't look like a total ignorant buffoon. I can understand it just fine, but actually speaking it seems to be a problem, for some reason."

Now that he wasn't panicking and the like, Lucian had slowed down his words to a much more manageable speed. Slightly berating himself mentally for assuming Natsumi would be able to keep up with that barrage without actually knowing her own skill at his language, Lucian tried to make it easier for her to understand. Becoming serious once more, Lucian nodded to himself.

"Right. How far away is it, and how fast do we need to get there?"

All of a sudden, her hand was hanging in mid-air. She blinked in surprise, and let it drop.

His power was speed, perhaps. Or just enhanced combat ability. Or something with sun - something to do with those gloves?

Not the... time. Time.

Natsumi furtively slipped her cell phone out of her pocket and checked.

Her eyes narrowed.

"We've got a few minutes - no time to explain. Follow me!" She took off at a brisk walking pace.

She assumed Lucian was right behind her, so she kept talking - she began more for her benefit than anything else, although she quickly turned it into an orientation of sorts.

"Shun-sensei probably won't mind us even if we show up late as long as it's not too late, and we don't do anything to stand out." She pushed open the door to the main building, pushed past a few other students that were standing in the hallway. "Excuse me- oops, sorry- that's the cafeteria over there, by the way- He's a good teacher!" she said, in a voice a little louder than her usual one, just in case it was lost in the ambient conversation. "So you shouldn't worry too much! If you're worrying! Sometimes he doesn't show up to class either!"

"We've got a few minutes - no time to explain. Follow me!"

Nodding to her back, Lucian took off after her. As they ran, Lucian slipped into his particular pattern of breathing, controlling the flow of air through his lungs, and subsequently, the oxygen in his body. When Lucian actually remembered he was a student (sorta kinda) under his father, who trained him in the usage of breathing to channel the power of the Sun, he actually remembered that he had pretty good stamina. When his sleep schedule wasn't shot to hell by time-zone shifts, or he got in late, or he had been worrying and hadn't slept well, and. . .

You get the idea.

Anyway, he was only using his usual (read: low) amount of Hamon to strengthen his body. He was channeling it throughout his system, but because he hadn't directed any towards his gloves, they remained inert. The usual lightning-like flashing of Hamon also wasn't present, as Lucian's low enough 'voltage' wasn't quite enough to manifest it that strongly yet. Granted, he could, for twenty seconds, go beyond what he was capable of, that would leave him completely exhausted.

Even if he partitioned that time out, he would still be able to go only twenty seconds. 'Bursting' for a few seconds at a time, though, wasn't such a bad idea.

"Shun-sensei probably won't mind us even if we show up late as long as it's not too late, and we don't do anything to stand out."

Anyway, the brisk walk they were taking had led them to the main(?) building. Opening the door, and cutting through a group of students who were standing there like a hot knife through butter, they continued on.

"Excuse me- oops, sorry- that's the cafeteria over there, by the way- He's a good teacher! So you shouldn't worry too much! If you're worrying! Sometimes he doesn't show up to class either!"

"Oh boy- whoops! Sorry, 'bout that! 'Scuse us! Right, there we go. . .

I'm not worrying! Who's worrying?! Not me, nope!

Right, gotcha. Thanks for the help, by the way!"

Glancing around, Lucian tried to get a grasp on the time. He really should have brought a watch. Or at least a cell-phone. Was he really that out of it when he left that he forgot one of the most useful tools of communication? Apparently so. Werg.

"Time?"

He asked out once again.

"Three minutes," Natsumi said, and smiled. They'd made it. They were just outside the classroom now.

She reached for the door handle, noting subconsciously that it was a little weird not to hear anything going on inside, whether it happened to be Shun talking or students complaining that, once again, he'd scheduled an after-school session.

Her hand grasped the handle.

She froze.

She... was an absolute idiot. Too preoccupied with his weird gloves, too preoccupied with how to efficiently communicate with him and what classes they had together... It wasn't her fault (if it was anyone's fault it had to be his, right? For being new?), but she'd made a mistake.

It was the beginning of the day. Not to mention, the beginning of his first day.

It wasn't time for Supernatural Studies.

Her face pale, she slowly turned, her hand still on the handle.

"Lucian," she said. "Who's your homeroom teacher?"

"Three minutes,

Smiling heartily, Lucian let out a sigh of relief. Apparently they'd made it with time to spare! Awesome! He wasn't going to be late today! Screw you Murphy, you don't win every day!

Natsumi reached for the door, grabbed the handle, and.... Froze. She froze. Why did she freeze? What was up? Was this a prank? Oh dear lord something was wrong. Something was wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong! He could feel the waves of dread practically radiating off of her body like the sun's own rays. There could only be one explanation for this, one explanation for the, now that he thought about it and listened, silent classroom. . .

We're at the wrong class, aren't we?

As if to confirm his suspicions, and own dread, she turned, slowly. In a voice barely above a whisper, she asked him The Question. . .

"Lucian, who's your homeroom teacher?"

Lucian's face was, by this point, a mask of similar looking horror.

"H-Hiro. . . Tsukasa. Yours?"

"Lavender," she breathed, not even bothering to formalize her teacher's name.

There was an instant of horrified silence, before Natsumi began speaking again, quicker than ever, trying to turn the gears in her head and plot out the fastest course to both their homerooms.

"I- I think I know where Hiro's class meets but I'm not sure." The clock on her phone ticked down to two minutes left. She looked Lucian in the eye.

"Two choices. One, I take you to my homeroom, it's closer and Lavender's nice, she'll probably tell Hiro and hopefully he'll understand. Two," and she hesitated for a moment as the second hand passed fifteen - one minute forty-five seconds left-

"We run."

[[OOC: Sorry for the short post in advance xD]]

"Two choices. One, I take you to my homeroom, it's closer and Lavender's nice, she'll probably tell Hiro and hopefully he'll understand. Two,"

A moment of hesitation.

"We run."

A second moment of silence before Lucian quickly spoke.

"Third option, we get you to your class as fast as possible, and, by some miracle of God, I get to my own class on time. Let's run and talk, it'll save time!"

Thus began the frantic rush for the finish line. Assuming Natsumi took the lead, because Lucian really had no idea where he was going, Lucian began to speak again.

"All right, directions! Do you know a fast way to where Hiro's class meets?!"

She ran, but the words that came out probably weren't what Lucian wanted to hear.

"No third option!" Natsumi managed between breaths, trying not to think of the consequences of being late. "You'll get lost without me, right?"

People were moving now, the crowds thinning, the last stragglers - like them - hurrying to class. She bumped into somebody and didn't even mutter an apology anymore.

Too long to explain where it was. Words were too slow. She couldn't afford to lose him in the crowd. Her cell phone was sticking out of her pocket, almost bouncing out, and in a swift motion she shoved it back in. One minute left.

She grabbed Lucian's hand, hard, and ran towards the stairs. Forget about the weird gloves that she'd just willingly grabbed. Forget about the stitch forming in her sides, forget about potentially what was going to happen if anyone saw them rocketing down the hallway like this.

Room 2-B. That was what mattered.

"No third option! You'll get lost without me, right?"

Lucian grit his teeth, and was about to reply, when he caught sight of a passing clock. Dear lord they were nearly out of time! Gritting his teeth and grunting, Lucian returned with,

"Then I hope this Hiro fellow is as nice as your teacher!"

Then she grabbed his hand, rather forcefully at that. Granted, it was in desperation, and he really wasn't thinking too much of it, save for that the, probably, 5'3 girl was trying to drag him along, and, well, he was kind of letting her. It probably looked fairly weird. On the other hand, they were headed towards the stairs, or so Lucian could see. From what he had seen from the clock... Yeah, at the current rate? The stairs would be the death of them. Making up his mind on the spot, Lucian grabbed her hand tigher.

"We're going up the stairs, right?! At our current rate, they'll be the death of us! Hang on, I'm gonna do something really stupid!"

With that, Lucian took in a breath. What was notable about it was that he did it a certain way, producing an elongated "Huoouoooooo" sound as he did so. Typically, this was what a more advanced Hamon specialist would do to activate an Overdrive. Lower ranked ones also did it to activate Overdrives, but it also served as a way of accessing the higher state of Hamon that skilled users could constantly use all the time. Lucian could only access this for about twenty seconds. Then he'd just plain pass out. So he had to be careful when using it.

This was not Lucian being careful with it.

Flashes of what seemed to be electric yellow lightning burst forth from his body, more specifically his legs, as he seemed to rocket forwards at a much greater speed. Having access to a higher level of Hamon let him reinforce his body a lot more as well, letting him hit harder, move faster, and tank hits better. The problem was, his body wasn't used to channeling such a raw, more powerful form of Hamon yet. Ergo, he passed out, because he practically was powering it with his stamina.

Bursting towards the stairs, Lucian cut off the flow for a second, before bursting up that as well, kind of like a rocket. This was taking it's toll on him, though. The first few bursts started to leave his normally seemingly flawless breathing ragged. Even running around as much as they had hadn't phased Lucian. Bursting up the stairs? Even worse.

"What (ha, ha) room number (ha, haha, ha, ha) are we looking for?!"
