It was a pleasant afternoon, the weather was tending towards no extremes and a ligth breeze filtered through the air. Classes were over and the brief relief known as the weekend was already among the students. The spring weather brought out the best various plants and landscaping projects around the campus as if they were awaiting some formal occasion. Walking across a cool grass lawn towards the Yuki dorms, Lenny was determined to make his appointment. His left hand clutched a spiral notebook with a pen through its spine and the haemonculi on his shoulder looked oddly vigilant, its eyes wide open and its snout in a constant state of agitation. His right hand held a wicker basket, a backup plan. He was determined to make progress today. Lenny was an amatuer Cryptozoological Biologist, which was actually a respectable field due to the large amount of mythical creatures that did, in fact, exist. While many were content to let dragons be dragons and let spirits walk among them people like Lenny wondered at the true natures of these creatures. What organs let a dragon breathe fire? What was the DNA structure of gelatinous ooze? Do spirit’s maintain family structures? All of these were questions of Lenny’s field. He knocked on the Senka’s door, though he hadn’t really scheduled to meet her, he lacked her contact information, he hoped she would agree to speak with him. Lenny had helped the girl, a Kitsune, about a week previously and he hoped to leverage that early assistance now. Kitsune, though relatively social with humans, were somewhat of an enigma to the Cryptozoological community by dint of their nature as shapeshifters. His goal was simple, make friends with her so he could do some research. He would be graduating in a year from now so it would help to have some research work to leverage when he went back to the states for college. Hyakuji High’s administrators were a bit hostile towards the Cryptozoological community’s desire to research various members of the student body, but they probably wouldn’t notice a student working on the inside. He waited a few seconds for the knocks to reverberate before speaking. “It’s me, Lenny. The guy who helped you move in” His voice speech sounded a bit rushed, but he was there, waiting by the front door. |

Senka hadn't taken long to settle in to her new apartment. She let the boys stay over for a short while to talk and relax after moving, but had soon dismissed them to rest herself and to settle in. She was confident after all that that she had made at least three new friends, and possibly one enemy. But she was all fine with that. On this day, Senka found herself lounging in her apartment in a long t-shirt as pajamas, wondering if she would end up with a roommate. She thought that would be cool, someone to talk to all the time. Even gossip. At this moment, there was a knock at her door. She hopped up and skipped to her room when she heard a voice call to her. “It’s me, Lenny. The guy who helped you move in” Senka paused, and looked at her attire, but decided it was far too flirty. "Just one moment~! Let me make myself proper." she called out to him. It took her a couple minutes, but she soon answered the door in some tight jeans and a baggy shirt. "Hello there Lenny." she said with a deep warm smile. "Come for a visit and to see my nicely set up room, hmm~?" she asked with a playful wink, stepping out of the way and gesturing for him to enter. As he heard her voice through the door he was a bit relieved, he was considering the possibility that she wasn’t here and that he had made the trip for nothing. As he waited for her to change he steeled himself with the cold practicality of a scientist, it was agreed in his field that Kitsune were elusive, tricky, and if Dr. J was to be believed, quite seductive. Just focus on the purpose. The haemonculi’s eyes were made for this he thought to himself as the handle turned, his posture a bit too straight and his eyes somewhat focused. “I suppose I could . . . I mean yes, thank you” he seemed a bit flustered, his nerves were on high. His connection with Senka was probably his big shot at actually getting into the Cryptozoological community, he didn’t want to mess it up. He noticed the deepness of her smile and the wink, though the meaning was lost on him, or rather he made a point to not fully understand the meaning. He stepped past her, the haemonculi on his shoulder looking at her with beady eyes as he moved past. He looked around, notebook held tightly in his hand, making the farce of observing the room when in reality he was using the haemonculi’s eyes to keep observing her. “It looks, . . nice, quite nice actually. I was just wondering if you could . . .” he wasn’t sure how to approach the subject, the reports he had read on kitsune seemed to vary on how willing the subjects were to discuss it. Shit, might as well go full ahead he reflected. “tell me about your people” he turned to face her with his own eyes, looking somewhat nervous and maybe a bit pleading. |

Senka started off with a smile at his initial flustered state he was in when he entered, happy that her flirtations had seemingly sunk in to this one as well. Senka made sure he had enough space to walk in and she shut the door behind him, watching him for a moment. She smile on at him as he looked about and noticed the small eyes of his haemonculi on her. Senka only continued producing the smile and offered a small wave to it. “It looks, . . nice, quite nice actually. I was just wondering if you could . . .” Senka's smile brightened and she perked up. Inside her head, her mind churned, wondering what he might ask. What could he be asking for? I mean, I originally thought my flirts didn't even work on him. But now, he is asking for....what? Instead of even speaking, her mind only reeled until he finished the sentence. “...tell me about your people?” He had turned to face Senka and it took all of her control to keep the smile. Instead, her circle looked more akin to a forced grimace, looking like sheer terror under this facade. But she nodded to him nonetheless. "Uh, sure! Absolutely. Shall we sit down on the couch first?" she asked, gesturing and leading him to it without an answer. She went over and sat down on one side, leaving space for him. |

"Uh, sure! Absolutely. Shall we sit down on the couch first?" He noted the grimace, but didn’t quite gleam any meaning from it, he was simply too glad that she had accepted. “I you want to, sure” he sat down next to her, as she requested, though sitting next to her made it a bit awkward for him to turn towards her. “Thanks for agreeing to this” he sounded truly thankful, his excitement was similar to when he first met her and Hugo, a kind of fascination and observation that betrayed something near pure joy. “So your people, Kitsune; is that the term you use for yourselves, Kitsune?” what started as an introduction turned into a question. “Anyway, so how were you born, if I’m not asking too much? Do you remember where it was, or how it happened? I mean there are rumors that your people are spiritual in nature but, I’d like to hear it from the source” he seemed to be moving from questions without waiting for answers, he was almost giddy, happy. He looked towards her like she was the person he was most glad to see in the world. |

Even though Senka was extremely nervous, for the moment she at least appeared calm. She nodded confidently to his first question. "Yes, I'm sure. I'd be happy to help." And almost instantly, Senka's nerves became unsettled as his first sentence transformed into a question. She gave a convincing half smile and nodded. "Correct." she added in a guess as he went on. The questions reeled on and her confidence shattered around her. She needed to come up with a plan that wasn't lying to him. She was pretty sure he could pick out far-fetched facts. Senka figured the safest route would be to tell him her actual story, how she came to be and HOPE it was similar enough to kitsunes to be convincing. She knew she would have to stop or alter later parts to avoid gumiho legends. Senka smiled confidently again, ready to start with the basics. "Well, I was born as a fox. Many many many hundreds of years ago. Being a fox with such cunning, such intelligence, and such strong power and energy, my life as a fox was significantly longer then an average fox. After those first several hundred years as a fox, I was granted the ability to shapeshift, allowing me this beautiful form you see here today." she said, gesturing to herself as a waiter would present an exquisite meal. |

He was scrawling down notes as she spoke, glad to be getting the basic information out of the way. Good, interesting He thought. The fox genesis theory had support in the community, so her explanation sounded plausible. Luckily for her the study of Kitsune didn’t have many cemented facets yet so she could probably manage to avoid saying anything damning of her heritage. “Interesting, so when you say you were a stronger fox do you mean in the sense that you were more fit to survive? As in you didn’t die of starvation or injury. And are you also suggesting that any wild fox that avoids death for long enough can become one of your people? Can you remember being a fox?” As she presented herself he looked her up and down, seeming to observe deeply. “In addition, why did you choose a human-esque form? I mean most Kitsune appear as human-like or foxes in a majority of reports. Is your shapeshifting limited towards your possible forms” He looked eager again, shifting up to her a bit closer on the couch. “Beyond that do you have any connection to Kami or other divine beings, do you consider becoming a kitsune as a divine act” He was glad for this. Research was rarely this easy and he was delighted to be getting some definite results. |

Senka smiled and nodded, knowing that at least these initial, basic facts were true between gumiho and kitsune. From here on out, it would start getting harder. But for now she didn't show it. She had on a strong and confident facade, happy to be helping one of her new friends, even though there was a bit of deception. She nodded to the firs question. "Yes indeed. Stonger in nature, spirit and vitality. Skilled, intelligent hunter with a strong survival will. I am not sure if it can be any fox or if it is a blessing from another fox being. There are even some things that I do not know." she said with a sagely nod. "I mean there are some things you humans don't know, like why you are born with certain hair and eye colors as well as gender." she said, completely unaware of genetics and such. "But yes, I remember being a fox." Senka added. As questions went on, her discomfort increased as her guessing knowledge became more limited. "Um, well... I always liked humans. This form is beautiful, graceful, sensual and agile. Plus, it is easier to seduce men when you look like their species." She smiled a bit as he shifted closer to her, a bit unsure. Senka went on. "No connection to godly beings, at least right now. I do plan on becoming one when I recover my tails." She didn't realize it but she slipped up. Normally one would earn a tail and keep it, but she now made it apparent that she lost one or many of her tails. |

Though Lenny was tempted to lecture her on genetics as she admitted her own ignorance he resisted, this wasn’t the time and place and he also expected that other species would probably be less technologically advanced than humans. “Thanks for the answers. So you said you lost your tails, is that a defense mechanism like a lizard losing its tail? Of course, that would still be a massive lost if the legends of Nine Tails Ascension are true?” Lenny was eating the bait so well he would have robbed a fisherman of his story. Lenny was actually excited by the contradictory information, a supported, contesting theory would gain him far more noticeability than mere agreement. It would take a bit more to get him suspicious. “And you also mentioned seduction” His tone remained unchanged, if he was trying to use this to lead into something his voice was no traitor. “So do your people actively seek out human males? And do all your people seek out males, I mean do any of you transform into male human forms? Are you biologically . . .” Brushing on this subject he hesitated a bit, even his focus on scientific advancement couldn’t provide an entirely impenetrable bulwark to this line of query “Compatable? With humans, or do you mean seduction in a less . . . physical way” It was clear he was trying to put the question in the most neutral wording possible. His changing tone and face showed it was possible he was realizing the complete nature of his current situation. |

Senka's kind and sincere smile faded as her lips pressed into a firm line. She bit her tongue, literally sinking her teeth into it, but it was hidden behind her lips. She silently cursed herself for letting it slip. She personally had no idea how kitsunes earned tails and if they could even be lost. Luckily, the kitsune origin lined up with the gumiho one. Senka sucked blood off of her tongue before speaking. "Well, I got a tail for every 100 years of life. Each tail was a reservoir of magic, as well as a conduit to new powers." she said with a nod. She was speaking carefully now. She decided the next part was more of a cruel twist of fate rather then a hint towards her true species. "The reason I lost my tails was because I got careless. The only way to lose a tail is by strong magic, stealing your magic. I made a bet with a supernatural, magical being. And lost. They took all of my tails I had earned." Senka said, her expression growing sad and depressed. Senka was much more satisfied with the new turn of conversation. She smiled sweetly back at him. "Oh yes, seduction indeed. I can't tell you why, but my type definitely needs male interaction. To my knowledge, my kind is entirely comprised of females. But, we could always change our appearance to a male variant." Senka smiled, letting a blush rise to her cheeks. "And of course we are compatible. Either form, we are just like humans, other then ears and tails. Even those we can temporarily banish from sight. As for anything like babies, I am not sure if our species is capable of that. With that said, you can guess why kind of seduction I am insinuating." she said with a playful wink, letting her actions ring truth to her words. |

He was taking a lot of notes while she spoke, the brief reprieve giving him a chance to refocus himself. “What were you betting for, and against who?” The question wasn’t quite pointed, but it was clear he wanted it answered. Exchanges of power of the kind Senka described were unusual among Cryptozoological creatures and as such were of particular interest to him. What kind of being could and would willingly gamble for that much power. Senka’s admittance gave Lenny a bit more insight into the Kitsune state of life, or at least the one Senka was fabricating. As he turned back to her from his notes he caught a strange glimmer in her eye as she regained control of the situation. Lenny had thought that his willingness to advance his scientific standing would make him dauntless, but now that he stood next to the siren he was less sure. The blush caught him off guard, the wink more-so. “Oh . . . umm good” he seemed to delay a bit, and shifted a bit away from her across the couch, imagining that the millimeters of distance would defend his somehow. His tongue got scrambled as he tried to move onto something next. There was something odd about this, usually Lenny’s haemonculi had acute enough senses to find some physical flaw with any person he met, some dissymmetry or blemish. Wait, shit she’s a . . . He realized it now, she was a shapeshifter, a several hundred year old one from a species that needed men like Lenny to survive apparently. If she couldn’t achieve perfect aesthetics by this point she would be a discredit to the craft. Lenny’s cheeks showed a strange shade of red as he ducked back into his note, flipping his pages while his haemonculi kept watch from the back of the couch, hoping that she would change her gaze. “So what do you think of the human world?” he asked nervously as if he were reaching for straws to build a raft, it was the default question of any cryptozoologist who needed to stall for time. |

Senka sighed a bit. "Well, as I said, the tails were magical reservoirs and conduits, and at that point I had all nine. But the being I was betting with... well I can only describe them as a god. A being of pure energy and magic. And of course, we were betting against each other for each others energy. I would have been an unstoppable force with two gods worth of power." she said, thinking about what could have been, Senka smiled brighter when she realized that her charms were working on this one. Guess her first impression was wrong. But she would have been sincerely worried if he knew how close he was to realizing what she actually was. Senka continued on with the flirtations, by scooting a little closer to him when he scooted away and put her arm across the back of the couch, right behind him. She had no idea that he might be terrified, just nervous. Unfortunately for Lenny, her gaze never broke, still focusing on him in his flustered state, not even shifting to the haemonculi. Senka giggled a bit at the question. "Well it has always been great. Even when I was a fox, I still found it enjoyable. The food is what I really love. I am a sucker for... well, almost any food really." she said with a glimmer in her eye, finally staring away from Lenny as if staring at food that levitated in her mind's eye just in front of her face. |

His inch retreat was doing him no favors, though the idea that he was speaking to an almost god beguiled him for a moment. Another being with a potential for godhood, another chance? he thought with a wistful and doubting hope. The other being he spoke of was a phantom who would later play a part in ending the world, but either way Lenny had already proved himself to be willing to ride on the shirt-tails of gods. * PLOP * and suddenly he realized he was a girl on the first date. He had been caught in the first trap of every young cupid’s arsenal, the casual reach around. Umm. . . His mental processes were as stunned as his expression at that moment. He was being seduced, he half realized that. Giving into temptation he wondered if his study would be considered valid if it was ever revealed he had . . . relations with his subject; but just as quickly he shook the thought away. He couldn’t let this happen, at least not on these terms. I need to find some way out . . . He didn’t want to become a servant, a pawn. He was fine with being a subordinate: a commander, a sergeant; just not a servile one like a concubine or a butler. He was unable to actually catch her review of the human world, his internal panic slowing her words and reducing them to so much background noise. There was a sweat under his brow and his lips were parted in a kind of worried fear. Senka would probably recognize the expression from other men, confused, caught, like a bunny in a snare. As she glanced away he got a brief chance to escape. “Do you want to go somewhere to eat!? He almost shouted it out, his voice sounding like a man suggesting a delay in his own execution. He had caught the last few words from her mouth and heard his salvation, a little traveling would give him a chance to steel and ground himself. He scooted back a few more inches, his lower back hitting the couch’s arm. |

Senka restrained herself, lest she become a ball of giggles and laughs at his awkwardness. Luckily, she had some experience in situations like this, and could handle it well. But she still wasn't sure if the effects were fully sinking in. He kept scooting away, but he was still very much nervous and blushing. Senka smiled at the prospect of food. She was indeed hungry, but not for traditional food. She wanted a liver. But there was no way she was going to take Lenny's. She could go out into town tonight and find someone else. This sent her into a train of thought, wondering about the cities security and what not, wondering how hard it might be. Her face lost the seductive touches for a bit, as she looked off, lost in thought a moment, but quickly snapped back with a dazzling smile. Time for a plan. As he scooted farther, Senka leaned in closer, wrapping her arm around him. "Aww, are you asking me out on a date Lenny? Sure! I would love to go out, for some food." she said with a smile and a nod, not giving him a chance to correct himself. |

“Uhh, Sure, that’s what I’m doing!” he stated, saying things more for the sake of escaping than through any intention to deliver. To be honest he would have pretty much said anything at that moment. The only thing he registered was her breaking her glance briefly, which was enough to send a wave of relief through his body. I mean it could lead to research He rationalized to himself. His relief was broken as he became aware of the soft squeeze of her arm around him as he stared once more into her deep eyes. He paused for a moment in worry, his hair slightly tousled at this point. “Do you want to eat later . . . or now . . . or” He just kind of stopped then, silence. He figured it might be good to shut up for a while. |
