The young man growled stuffily as he rolled onto his back, gritting his teeth to suppress the pain on his gaping wound though there was little he could do to stop the bleeding. He couldn't even muster the energy to retort the fleeing hooded woman, let alone stop her. Not that he would, there's something more important he had to deal with.

The young man forced himself to sit up, much to his own regret as Lucid came along. "...You were aiming... to kill someone either way... weren't you...?" He said over a mouthful of blood, spitting it out only because it was in the way. He wasn't going to say anything about the comment with Sophia, nor did he cared to realize whether its of any importance or not. But her next suggestion did receive a glare from him. Of course Youma came along out of the water with the two guys who were drowning, setting them onto dry land. Seth eyed the half-phantom trying her best to keep them alive with emergency procedure, to the fanged tail swishing around for a prey, to Lucid and her goofy grin.

"...Che,"

He reached out and grabbed the tail before forcing its maw onto his own neck, knowing full well what it would do thanks to previous observation. "Don't be ridiculous... No one dies under my watch..." The young man said as he let the girl feed on his life. "I don't believe anyone deserves to die more than they should live... even if they are a hardened criminal... an experiment of a human, a demon and an angel... a robot... a weapon... or even a monsterous killer..." His eyes drifted slightly towards Youma still doing her best to keep the two alive. "...Life is precious... Don't ever waste it..."

Not that Lucid would understand anyway, probably. "...Speaking of, did you raise a hand against any of them...?" He added as a question to Alexia, not really thinking through whether she could hear him or not.

As soon as Seth held Alexia’s tail up against his neck it latched onto it like a vampire, draining the young man’s life from him. A few seconds later the winged girl’s eyes shot wide open as she took gasped of air, looking around bewilderedly to see what had happened. She caught sight of what she was doing to Seth and screamed out in horror, pulling her tail back as she crawled over to him. “W…Why did you do that!?” Her cry was a mix of anguish and anger, and tears formed in her eyes. “Y…your own l…life is precious too!”

So it seemed she had heard him after all, at least the last parts. Alexia shook her head furiously as tears began to fall, landing on Seth’s face. At this distance Seth would be able to see the wound in her chest through the tear in her clothes. It was closed, but only just. Seems like Alexia had only taken enough life force to keep herself from dying, so things shouldn’t be too bad for him, considering his superhuman vitality, but she didn’t know that. “No… Rakanoth a…and Sariel wanted to f…fight, but I m…made them stop… I… I listened to you… and n…now you’re… you're...”

Meanwhile Youma’s attempts to revive the other two assassins were half successful. The one that Lucid had dragged underwater was long gone, and his body lay lifeless on the shore. The other however, got off relatively easy, at least in the sense that he was still alive. As the half-phantom did her thing, he coughed violently and spurted up some of the water he had taken into his lungs. Like Alexia, he was just as surprised to be alive, but that joy was short-lived as he caught sight of the very much alive Alexia.

“Why? Why did you save that monster? She’ll kill us all!” There was a fanatical look in his eyes, but he made no move to attack. With Lucid and Youma watching, there was no way he could get an attack off before they intervened.

ZEHAHAHA!!
"Oh Seth, such a soft hearted fellow you are." Lucid rolled up her sleeves, swishing slightly as she walked over. "You and Alexia have that certain kindness, yep. Society would approve, that they would!"

Of course, she didn't speak from society's perspective. In her eternally recurring line of thought, there was no point in listening to the talk about value of life right now. Still, for the sake of having something to observe....

"Oh, Saint Ryouga here treasures you a lot. That's just how things are." The soaked fool shrugged. "Meanwhile, silly dummy over there, the guy in the hood? Still mad at you."

She smiled widely as she looked at the cloaked assailant. Her lack of presence was telling, even as she mentally flipped a coin on what to do with him.

"Oh, you big dummy. You don't get it, do you? Alexia here surpassed her nature. You? Not so much! But lucky you, she's not mean enough to kill you." She looked up at the half-phantom. "Youma, go and restrain him. If he tries to attack again, something bad will happen! Well, bad by your standards. I'd be okay with shooting him until he's chunks~"

Not even a second after she made a callous threat to end the hooded man's life, she went over to Alexia and grinned.

"So, you aren't really dead yet. But to be sure, I'm going to be taking your tail and jamming it in my body, too. I'd ask you to eat a tree or two, but I don't think a vegetarian diet works for you."

She whistled cheerfuly as she reached for the fanged tail.

"Oh, and on the off chance I somehow die from it, it's probably 'gravity' at work. Gosh, coming back as a zombie would be cool."

"Wha- dammit, don't go doing something stupid like that...!" It was enough to get him to sit up but it doesn't seem like he's in any condition to stop whatever Lucid has in mind now. Seriously though, what the heck is going on in her head to have such a... such an oddly twisted mindset like that...?

In the meantime the half-phantom herself was more than happy to comply with Lucid's suggestion, though 'happy' might be an odd choice of word considering she... practically smashed the guy's face onto the ground with her feet on his head. No mercy at all. "You might want to take a look at her," The half-phantom growled to the hooded man under her feet, not caring if he really could do what she's telling him to do or not with his face planted on the floor. "Now look at me and tell me straight to my face, that that little girl crying over a hurt person is someone who would kill all of us without a second thought..."

The half-phantom seemed to be taking the words of the hooded man quite personally for some reason. Of course, it's a reason that no one but Seth and Youma themselves would know. The very scene happening in front of her eyes right now... is painfully similar to her own experience back at the French Alps... "If you dare to belittle or ruin Seth's effort... then I won't hesitate to show you what a real monster looks like..."

She raised her foot off the hooded man, before quickly rushing off to the young man's side instead, equally worried of his well being. He, instead, was more concerned about some other matters. "How's the other guy?"

Youma only shook her head slowly.

"I see..." Was all he said in reply before falling silent in mourning. It's an... unfortumate loss, and somewhat painful for him despite all he said about mot going to let anyone die under his watch... "...You there. What's your name?" Regardless of whether he's given the name or not, je wpuld continue, "Give him a proper burial. And... tell his friends and family, Seth Ryouga is sorry for their loss,"

He's not finished yet though. "And before you go," He called out to the man. "...Whatever path in life you choose, don't regret it,"

He said nothing else. At least, to the man, he's quite confidemt that the man wouldn't try anything funny anymore, at least for now. Though speaking of now, "...Hey, come on you brat, stop looking so sad," A sharp flick of his finger to Alexia's forehead, with a surprisingly strong kick to it despite his weakened state. Adding the reassuring grin, would that be enough to show her that he's alright? "Don't worry about me, I'll live. I'm the strongest after all~ ...Or second strongest, shut up..." Only so the girl wouldn't keep rubbing it on his face. "Very proud of you by the way," He said as he patted Alexia on the head, somewhat forgetting its still caked with his blood. "Just remember to always stay true to your words," Eh, she can wash it off later.

With that, the young man got up to his feet with the half-phantom's help. Even if he is stupidly durable he's still gotta get himself fixed lest he dies of silly blood loss. ...It's a surprise by itself in hindsight, how he's still conscious until now. "Uhm... wait wait, before that... I want to ask for one thing in return..." He added, stopping the half-phantom to turn back to the winged girl woth an earnest look of hope and concern. "...Please, help Sophia Antistita... She's in a bit of a... trouble right now..." He then turned to Lucid. "...And you... what's your name, Lace?" ...Close enough, though he did snort in amusement at how odd the name was. "You are her bodyguard, so... Keep her safe, won't you...?"

His eyes closed. His consciousness faded and he collapsed into the half-phantom's arms.

He should have gone out long ago. The only thing that kept hom conscious the whole time was his own willpower.

“N…No!” As Lucid grabbed her tail Alexia was very quick to pull it back, hugging it to herself like a girl with her favourite doll… if the doll had dangerous life-draining teeth. “I…I’m okay now… I’ll live. I just need to eat some more, normal food will be enough…” She looked up at Lucid and smiled through her tears. “Thank y…you for saving me today… I’ll make good on our deal… I promise.”

As for the lucky, or not so much considering he had Youma’s foot on his head, assassin, his expression could best be described as utter disbelief. Even as he watched Alexia cry it was clear that he didn’t believe her in the least. “… You’ve all been tricked…! And you still can’t see it!” Despite his aggressive tone of voice he made no attempts to fight, fully understanding the position he’s in. He cautiously got up to his feet as Youma left him and went to carry his fallen comrade away, but not before leaving an ominous warning. “No matter what I do the Asahi no Tsuya won’t stop, you know that right? Letting me go may very well end up getting her killed.”

Alexia watched him leave, unease and doubt written all over her features, but a sudden pain in her forehead in the form of Seth’s flick made her yelp in surprise and pain. “S…sheesh… you shouldn’t scare people like that…” The winged girl sniffled and rubbed the spot Seth had flicked. “I’d rather have you disappointed in me and alive than proud of me and dead…”

At the mention of Sophia however, the smile fell off Alexia’s face and she released Seth from her embrace. “Sophia...? Why would you bring her up now? I haven’t seen her since she came to see me at the hospital, she has nothing to do with this…” Her eyes fell upon the circle of mysterious characters where the hooded woman had laid, by now the rain had washed it away, making it more or less illegible. “… Does she?”

Too bad Seth wouldn’t be able to answer her, not without reason mind you. He had been through more than enough today, they all had. “We should get out of the rain… I’ll go back to the forest and find something to eat so I can finish healing up. Lucid you can come with me if you want, though it might be more comfortable for you to go back to your dorm…” Once again her eyes fell on Seth and the half-phantom holding him. “He’ll be okay… right?”

"If you insist." Lucid shrugged, letting Alexia take the tail back. "Saint Ryouga here was tasty enough, I guess. Also, my name is Lucid, not Lace. But I think it'll be a good name for my chil- Well, more like clone. I totally called dibs on naming her earlier."

What a socially acceptable guy he was, that Seth. He'd do fine in public relations one day. Right now, he was kind of bleeding all over the place. And acting cool. Hmm. Weird how the two nicest people were horribly injured while the two that didn't act so nicely were basically fine.

"Bye bye, cloaked guy. We'll call you soon." Lucid waved goodbye. Her ominous tone suggested that a far darker presence than the assembled students would be visiting the Asahi no Tsuya.

"And as for you, Alexia...." She ruffled the girl's blue hair in a rare show of affection. It seemed like her empty heart hadn't forgotten all notions of kindness. "Hyakuji High's a lot less violent. You'll have a better time there, especially with Seth and me at your side."

She looked to the remains of the circle, a curious look on her face.

"I kind of suspected Sophia was involved, because there were Viking symbols on the floor. And the lady spoke Viking. Actually, she probably wasn't Japanese at all. Those Vikings sure are good at disguises."

Indeed they were, if none of them had figured it out until she practically gave it away.

"Set-" Oh, he was unconscious. "If Mr. Second Strongest wasn't out, I'd tell him that him doing detective work on the lady would've shown us that earlier. Too bad about him retiring, huh?"

Cheap shot after cheap shot came from the assassin. Apparently, she wasn't averse to murdering reputations as well.

"Hmm. Well, Youma will take him to the hospital. Plus he's a tough one. I think he'll be fine." She said, as she scooped up some of the bloody mud into an empty glass vial. "I want to hang around with you, but I've got a different place to go to. An important meeting, to say the least. We'll meet again, Alexia."

She held out her hand, a soft grin on her face.

"Until that time, stay safe."

"...Aside from them arguably not actually sailors, she's right about hem being more related to the Nordic than actually Japanese," The half-phantom pondered as she just watched Lucid walk away. "If they're not actually Japanese then I have no idea what do they have against someone like you... You sure you've never left this land ever since four hundred years ago?" It's a bit surprising to see how someone who only just met the winged girl today could know so much about her, but it's safe to assume that Seth would have told her everything. "He told me that a few weeks... or months, back was the first time you and Alexia have ever met. You two girls might be related in more ways than either of you may think,"

It's easy to think that, and there's a possibility that her assumption may be wrong. But come now, this whole mess can't just be some sick coincidence, can it?

Actually it probably can. Doesn't change the fact that it's still sick. "If only that girl didn't suddenly decide to go out of the country today..." The half-phantom grumbled, heaving the young man to better position him on her shoulder. "We could have talked to her about this..."

She caught sight of the girl's still worried expression and sighed. "Look, stop worrying about him. I know him, he got himself into this, he knew what was coming and he doesn't at all regret it, so don't you dare make him regret it," She gave a huff, before turning away and started walking off. "Next time you see him, just don't forget to smile. Take it from someone who was in your shoes,"

“I… I don’t know, maybe. I know nothing about Vikings, so I’ll have to take your word for it…” Alexia was still clearly uneasy about being asked to help Sophia, and if what they said was right, she had every reason to be cautious. “Anyways… I’m just glad that this is over. It’s a shame that that man died though… I really wish it didn’t come to that.” She turned away towards the direction where the surviving assailant had disappeared to, hiding her face from the Hyakujians.

A moment later she looked back at her saviours with a sincere smile. “In any case, thank you, all of you. It’s no exaggeration to say that I owe you my life. I promise that I won’t do anything to make you regret it.” She bowed to the three and started her long journey back to her home in the woods. By the time everyone was gone the rain had washed away all traces of the battle that had taken place here. It was almost as if it had never taken place at all.

If only memories washed away just as easily.
