Misae sighed. Where to begin? It's hard enough to explain basic theory of how hymmnos worked, but where does one start to explain when Lucid didn't seem to understand the subject, was loaded with preconceptions that didn't quite fit, and didn't even know she had them? "I suppose sometimes one must be direct about this. First, I can't accomplish that here. What you need is a Hymmno Extract, not a Hymmnos Word. An extract allows direct control over parameters that exist in this world, as opposed to mere words that are limited to interfering with the world." she paused for a moment, letting the explanation sink in "The extract you need crafted isn't possible here. I would need to, myself, wish to express the song. A foreign influence destabilises the link that allows a word to be possible, since our minds naturally handle the transmission to the world. A word also cannot get that specific - something that destroys you would destroy anything else I could target with a given parameter. Finally, the output required simply isn't possible here. I can't draw nearly enough from this land to actually sing what it would need." Letting out a breath, the girl in red glanced over to the young woman at the counter, who was taking her time preparing a confection of some sort. With noone else present at the teahouse, Misae merely sighed, and looked back at the person opposite her at the table. "If all you want is to die, there are people in this world far more capable of erasing you entirely. Otherwise..." she trailed off |

"Hmm. Oh, I see." Lucid called for another cup of tea, sipping the refreshment as she mulled the thought over. And then... "It's only natural that you'd doubt me. After all, you actually know how it works!" She laughed. "My words are the sort of nonsense you'd expect from somebody who doesn't have an idea of what she's saying." The fool set the new cup down, swirling it slightly as she prepared her next point. "But I figured that was the case. You're too smart, so you aren't willing to try and step beyond the bounds of Hymnos by bashing foreign parts into it. You know it would fail, and that's why it would." She giggled, repeating her actions and sounds of delight like it was the beginning of the same playlist. "I guess I could even say that I was inconsiderate, though. Infecting you with our system would've ruined you. You don't need a reality where the Root doesn't exist, where there is no World or Counter Force or Hymnos." She motioned to her counterpart, leaning forward with a big grin as she did. "Wouldn't that be a scary thing, Misae? A world where you were just a girl, without Magecraft or any other powers?" |

"I imagine it would be much the same, only with somewhat more difficulty. Else, it wouldn't be me, and thus not a problem." she replied blandly In truth, the very idea of not having what amounted to her core scared her at some level. The use of hymmnos and ethelite had shaped the very direction her life had taken, and expressed itself in every level of her being. She had adapted to use it. Learned to remain calm to maintain it. Expressed herself as she did to connect to it. Her personality was formed by the needs and results of the system. However, while it was frightening, she also knew that without it, the result would simply not have been the same person. Whoever developed from it would simply not be the same Misae Eltnam Eoria, if they had even kept the title and name, and thus could be easily mentally categorised as another entity. The tea arrived shortly after her answer. Fresh brewed darjeeling, served in a clear glass pot, with milk and sugar for both of them and an empty cup for Misae. Accompanying it was a small plate for each of them, with a small selection of cream puffs. "I hadn't ordered anything yet." she said, in English, with a momentarily confused Miyuki simply smiled thinly as she turned her back, waving it off. "It's on the house, don't mind me." |

"Exactly my line of thought!" Lucid clapped lightly. "Our systems make us the way we are. Haha, I wonder how a Misae born under my paradigm of despair and a Lucid born under your Root would fare in this happy, unclean world?" Oh, well. That was a question they could meditate on in their spare time. For now, the white haired assassin just sat cross-legged on her chair as she waited for her smarter counterpart to quench her thirst. She nodded briefly to the owner, who was gracious enough to treat them to some snacks. Oh, what a nice person. Perhaps she would consider what Misae said about the assassination job. "So, Plan B probably won't work if you don't want to shove a copy of your soul in my empty body. I'm a spiritual teacup, you know. Made to be filled up with a certain ghost, but I wouldn't mind if you had a perfect copy of yourself residing in me." She said, almost sounding proud. "Wouldn't that be comforting? When you die, you'll go back to the Root. But if you had a copy of you stuffed in my empty heart, you can be cloned! Another chance to iive woul be nice, wouldn't it?" |

"I can see the appeal some might find in it." she shrugged, pouring herself some tea "But I can't say I ever cared for such a thing." Misae held up the cup, her eyes locked on to the pale, gold-coloured tea. Darjeeling, first flush, whole leaf. One of the more expensive grades. That it was her favourite tea was a fact well known to the proprietor, who was, she thought, alot more doting in this regard than Misae thought she ought to be. Even the pastry had bits of leaf laced into the crust, though those were obviously of a lower grade than the one served as tea. "Besides, it wouldn't really be another chance. It would simply be another person from the same origin. A copy of me would simply be that, and we would cease the be the same at the moment of divergence." |

"Oh~?" Lucid suddenly leaned forward, eyes rapt with interest. "I've never met somebody who'd say they'd be fine without backup lives." Even more than that, Misae's eyes said that she actually believed such a thing. Honesty, now that was a virtue she could really appreciate! Of course, Ms. Elegant's situation was different. After all.... "It's a fine thing to say when you don't have anything to risk. You've accepted the natural cycle for mages, and that seems like how things will turn out for you in the end." Barring intervention or Lucid shooting her, that is. "You aren't desperate like others I work with. An eternity of pain and fear for them is guaranteed. Nobody questions why they'd cling onto any and all escape plans." She smiled widely. That seemed to be leading into her next spiel. "So, that being said, people who operate under the same invasive paradigm I do devised a certain sort of technique. It's complicated soul-science that's incompatible with your worldview, so I won't explain it. Suffice to say, I'd basically be an antenna for your soul information. So beep boop beep, real time updating and continuity of consciousness guaranteed. You'll black out upon death and wake up, hopefully in a cloned body! I'm guessing you'd find it horrible if you accidentally woke up in mine, after all. That happened in 1 out of every 10 cases in the study." She smiled, an eerie light casting around her. "Now, it's not like I'm doing it just for the info. I just feel like the Darjeeling you're drinking right now, there are valuables in this world that I'd like to keep safe. If it means that we have to play Dr. Ghost Mengele every once in a while, I'm fine with that~" |

"Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm not desperate..." she trailed off for a moment, taking the time to savour her tea. Indeed, It could be argued that of those who affiliated with that god forsaken tower, she was among the most desperate, even if she would never deign to look the part. The exterior image of being 'the capable woman' was something built up in order to function there at all, reinforced by time, training, and experience. "I simply don't think the result is the same. They can be functionally the same, and almost completely identical, but even in fine transmission, there's something lost. One of the magi designated to be sealed is said to have cloned herself so precisely that the system of the world merely transfers her soul from one body to another." She set down the cup and refilled it. Unusually for a Briton, she didn't seem to add anything to her tea. Some others saw milk and sugar with tea as a British disease up until they started doing it themselves. "And another one who was said to live in some city in the south, but something is always lost, however minute. In time, the loss would build up and even a soul could delay under such circumstances. Besides..." she smiled faintly "I think... a second chance is for those who failed on their first try. I wouldn't be able to deal with failing miserably enough to die." |

"Ah? Oh, how elegant and composed! I couldn't tell." Lucid smiled in a decidely cat-like manner. "What a normal way of thinking. But I suppose that's the normal way of thinking, huuuh~?" She munched on one of the pastries, actually falling silent for once until she finished it. Mmm, splendid! She'd have to order a lot of those next time. Licking her lips after her snack was done, she began speaking in a nicer voice than before. "Be a vampire, or a ghost, or an immortal with a paint-by-numbers portrait in the rec room. Hell, even a brain-in-a-jar, in a pinch. Anything to avoid the Big Fire Below." Lucid quoted. "Which should probably start with not adding milk and sugar to that Darjeeling." The fool might have been teasing Misae, but she liked purity of flavour. She could only take tea straight. "But I guess that's the usual line of thought. I do know a bit here and there about the measures mages take. I wouldn't say you'd become an Apostle to escape, would you?" |

![]() "If you know my family's history as much as you've claimed, the answer to that should be obvious." She sipped her tea. It should have been fairly obvious without the need to ask. Though the association itself didn't much care, the path that lead to it had resulted in the ruin of the family name from it's previous standing. While she herself didn't much care for it, the rest of the family, it was taboo beyond taboo, and she imagined they wouldn't be at all pleased with it. |

At that, Lucid froze and looked up from her cup. "Misae, that's some unwarranted confidence there. You said it yourself, you're desperate. And fear is a powerful motivator, I've heard." She pressed her index into the table. "No matter how forbidden the sweet nectar of immortality is, there'll be people who seek any method possible for it. I've played patsy to many of them." Her lavender eyes burrowed into the mage's, her smile losing its cohesion and happiness. "The Eorias and the Eltnams would hunt you if you tried. But you know, Apostlehood is something you know for sure~!" Gone was the cheer behind her earlier pitches. Now it seemed like she was trying to drag the mage into less travelled roads. "You don't deal with uncertainties. They're like dust on the blasty breeze, things that are really tough to try and grab. I would think that in your case, you'd choose the taboo over tradition if the other options were only theoretical." Her grin was a macabre one, like a fleshless skull set on her shoulders. With her usual goofiness, it was hard to remember that her role was that of an agent of despair. She didn't need to succeed right away. If there was even a single crack in Misae's mindset for her to widen, Lucid would hunt after it. |

![]() "The difference between me and those other magi is I don't seek eternity." she smiled thinly, setting the empty cup back in the saucer "What I'm looking for can be found in this world as it is. If it takes me more than a lifetime to find it, it would be meaningless by then." |

At that, Lucid's smile returned to one of vapid amusement. "Oh, wow! That's really cool. I want to know, Misae." Lucid leaned forward, even more child-like in her curiousity now. "What could be so valuable to you that you wouldn't need eternity if you got it?" Oh, this mystery had to be unwrapped. Surely, it had to have been an answer that would make the whole day even more splendid! |

"Well that..." she poured herself another cup "...is a secret." So, she thought, Lucid's information wasn't quite perfect. That was useful to know. It wasn't as if she'd ever mentioned such things in public, but then it also should have been fairly obvious that the goals of a magus were carefully guarded secrets, lest such information be turned on them. "I hope you didn't actually expect any magus to be forthcoming about such a thing." Edited by Katyusha, May 14 2014, 08:36 PM.

"Oh? I thought I was the safe kind of person to tell." Lucid tilted her head. "Why would I let anything bump into the fun things I want to observe? Pushing over a crate of NG when I'm trying to see people work is very disruptive!" Kaboom. Very noisy, very distracting. But she understood. Lucid wouldn't be getting that information from Misae herself. Oh, well. The mystery would be unwrapped eventually, by her hands or someone else's. "Zehaha, I must observe you more closely. Become my roommate, Misae! My previous one disappeared, so there won't be a lustful vampire dogging your every step now!" Lucid's outrageous proposition must have led to more than a few eyebrows being raised in the teahouse, undoubtedly. |

"I already have a roommate." she said blandly Said roommate was also rarely home, rarely spoke to her, and didn't like her very much, but such details were unimportant for the time being. Besides, it was a better arrangement than the one at Norwich, where she had to live with one of the few Japanese who studied at the tower, and having to deal with constant fights between one family and another. "Regardless, that's a matter of room assignment, not personal preference." |
