Tea for the Elegant and Empty; Misae

ZEHAHAHA!!
As far as days went, this one was particularly nice. A more ordinary person would have gone and enjoyed a walk outside, but Lucid was not a particularly normal sort of individual. No, she was planning to spend as much time indoors as she could, and this was just one stop of her 'roofed building tour' today. It was a nice teahouse, and she couldn't go and randomly shoot people up.

Clearly, her elegant counterpart would feel nice and safe here, haha~

"Haha! Glad you could make it here. I was starting to think that I was going to have to drag partner over here to have tea with me."

Lucid lifted her filled teacup quickly, but somehow avoided spilling even a single drop in the process. Sure, it would have been a tragedy for her to spill Orange Pekoe as fine as this, but it wasn't like she cared. She was wearing her usual off-school attire, which consisted of a red and brown hoodie with black bike shorts and sandals. Burning her exposed skin or staining that hoodie meant to evoke blood and mud would hardly faze the woman sitting across from her.

"Come on, order what you want. You can even buy as many tea leaves as you want. I'm footing the bill today." She insisted, before she sipped at her cup. To anybody with even cursory knowledge of her personality, the fact that Lucid didn't make any sound when she drank must have been surprising. Most people would've expected her to slurp loudly enough to ruin the mood.

Misae had to admit, it was more confusing than anything. She'd met Lucid exactly once, and this person was apparently familiar with her family's history.

Though it wasn't particularly a secret, the House of Eltnam had learned better than to advertise their roots after the debacle of Oberon had gotten them all but expelled from Atlas, and treated as outcasts by the Clocktower. That this girl would call her for something intrigued her in a way.

"The proprietor knows me enough to make that unnecessary." she said simply, giving a neat curtsy as her greeting before taking a seat. "Regardless, I thank you for your invitation."

"Ah, you're welcome!" Lucid set her teacup down, a more familiar smile replacing her vapid grin. "I've been wanting to talk to you for a while, Misae. You can guess what been keeping me busy."

A lot of fun, fun, fun! Haha, it really had been great. But now was the time for more quiet interactions with others, and she figured elegant Misae was next on the list of people she hadn't talked to enough. Then she stumbled onto a lne of thought she barely remembered, and that moved the guilder right up to the top.

"I'm just warming things up for a more serious topic." She swirled one finger over the rim of her cup. "I mean, we can have a nice chat until that part! It's not like your schedule's too packed to dilly-dally, right?"

Lucid leaned forward, interest shining in her lavender eyes.

"We can talk about that, yep. Daily routine! What do you do from day to day, hmm?"

"Mostly little things like keeping in practice and acclimating myself. The weather here isn't what I'm used to." she said, noncommittally

It was a fair bit clearer, she didn't say. And a little drier. Still cold enough, she thought.

"It's not as if it's particularly different from anyone else's."

"Haha! Oh, I see. People do take a while to get used to new places, I heard." Lucid giggled, coming perilously close to spilling her tea as she talked. "I'm surprised, though. I thought the Clocktower people had big projects all the time. Clockwork Spiders, basically."

Plans were nice. She didn't get the chance to plan often, because it was more fun going in without one. That was her, though. Elegant Misae had her structure and her 4/4 time life ticking away in uninterrupted rhythm. Good, good! The mage thrived on order, and she had a good life. It was what Lucid liked to see.

"Your schedule's a lot different from mine, though. I think I might be going out to string some people up in a few hours. Or maybe I'll lose all four of my limbs by sunset. Who knows, haha!" She crossed her legs, rocking back and forth in her seat. "But for the most part, I get to do what I want. Responsibilities? I don't have to follow any of them if I felt like it, and I wouldn't be punished."

She tilted her head once more as she regarded the mage. Hey, that would be a good one to ask.

"You like your routines, right? What if it was okay for you to be unordered like me? If you could do whatever you wanted to, and there weren't any consequences that'd hurt you or your family, would you really live your life the same way as you do now?"

Misae tilted her head.

It was a very odd question, coming from a very odd person. The way she openly talked about it was even stranger. Typically, people didn't talk about such things with people they'd met off the street.

No small part of her wondered where this was going, but there wasn't any immediate harm in answering. And regardless, it's not as if she had anything to hide. Unusually for a magus, she preferred things to be out in the open if practical, rather than constantly chasing after shadows to avoid the limelight.

"I suppose it would be much the same." she offered "I live as I do because I chose to do so regardless. It's not as if I'm coerced into it."

"Oh, that's good. Compatible with my way of thinking, then." Lucid nearly put her elbows on the table, but she stopped just short and pulled back. Apparently, she was trying not to offend Misae too much, for whatever reason. "I was right about you. There are a few points of similarity, enough for cohesion!"

She finished off her tea, then tilted it so Misae could look into the empty cup.

"It needs to be filled, doesn't it?" She commented on it. "Or rather, it exists to be filled up. If it doesn't have something inside, it's not doing it's job."

She lifted it up, holding her thumb and index finger together and swinging the handle with them.

"Tell me, does life have any worth on its own, even if people don't live up to their potential?" Her smile was a lot smaller, but it seemed like it was a result of concentrating so hard on her questions. "Society says yes, but I'm not interested in that. You've got a special answer, huuuuh~?"

"Oh? What makes you think that?" she asked coyly

Yes, the line of questioning was certainly odd, she thought.

As far as most were concerned, she was just another young lady, inexperienced in the ways of the world. For other magi, she was not nearly old or experienced enough to have an answer worth caring about, unless they looked into her family's history - then they merely thought of her as a borderline heretic.

She was still curious exactly where this was going, though she now had a guess.

"Zehaha! Oh, Misae. You already know the answer." Lucid grinned widely, putting the cup back down. "You are of the Eltnams. From a short look at their history, it's obvious that they were chasing after a particular miracle, even more unique than what the usual guilders go for."

She took a biscuit and broke a small piece off one end, holding that small chunk up at eye level.

"And the Eorias are an offshoot of that offshoot. Or to put it in the way I like a lot, they're deviants to a bunch of deviants to a society of deviants!" She popped that small chunk into her mouth and swallowed it quickly. "It's really weird, isn't it? Three degrees of deviation from ordinary society put you into a paradigm that's not entirely incompatible with mine!"

She folded her arms and leaned back again, this time crossing her legs on her seat.

"And it puts you in a similar position, too. Two degrees of deviation from the Clocktower would mean they aren't very accepting of you, huh? In fact, you're probably treated like a tool like me."

Elegant Misae could understand Lucid now, couldn't she? Maybe not enough to read her like a book, but surely enough to start leaning one way or another. Disdain or tolerance were equally okay in the fool's eyes.

"Of course, that's the point of it all. The things you say resonate with me because of the parts we are similar on. Plus you are a very honest person, so I can trust whatever answer you can give."

Lucid tilted her head, blank smile unwavering as she waited for her counterpart's response.

"...I suppose." she sighed, conceding the point

Misae could certainly understand the rationale behind it. It wouldn't have been hard to look up her history if they knew how, but the goofball before her had certainly put more effort into it than she'd given her credit for.

The daughters of the tower were never the most accepted by anyone, and certainly their points of view would not develop in the same way as a normal human's, but that did not necessarily mean that her conclusions would be any different from the rest of the tower's.

Though, she would also concede the honesty. Though she often hid truths or omitted details, she certainly wasn't one for deception of her emotions or opinions either. No Reyvateil was.

"I don't happen to have any particularly special answers, but I don't particularly believe that life has any intrinsic value." she allowed

Lucid put one hand to her mouth. It wasn't the answer she thought she'd get, but it was the one she needed. Good, good! So, they had more than a little bit of compatibility. Of course, Misae had the mental fortitude to withstand those empty thoughts even if they didn't have commonalities, but it seemed like things would go better with a higher rate of synchro.

"Haha, a good response~" She undid the straps of her sandals, then set her footwear on the floor. "So, it seems like it's time for me to get to the point. There's a really big thing I have to kill. My reasons for it aren't the kind you'd care for. The only part that will interest you is why I'm asking you of all people."

She stretched her legs out, ignoring personal space as she tried to use Misae's knees as a footrest.

"Well, it's simple. Plan A is putting some of my thoughts into your head, so you can come up with a song specifically targeted towards killing me." She laughed.

"I see..." she sighed "I think I see."

It certainly made sense from an outsider's point of view. A hymnnos word - song magic -is crafted from the emotions of the singer - an expression of their intentions made manifest to the world.

However....

"But I'm sorry to disappoint you, hymmnos doesn't work that way."

"... Oh." Lucid put her feet back on the floor, then scratched her head. "So, I guess Plan A isn't suitable, after all."

She patted her own knees and smiled.

"How about you rest your feet while I explain Plan B?" She put her arms behind her head and relaxed. "Now, come on. Do me a courtesy and please use my legs as a footrest. It's a metaphor for what you need to do, and explaining is a lot easier through metaphors!"

Plan A was straightforward compared to B. Oh, it really was. But the assassin supposed that her simple plans were less likely to succeed than the really overly elaborate ones she came up with sometimes.

"Perhaps first you can tell me of what you intended."

It wasn't everyday that someone asked for a means to specifically kill them. However, the composition of a Hymmnos word was not so precise as to formulate a hymn purely for the purpose of slaying one person.

Though such things existed, and her ancestors had the ability to do so, it would require prepared formulae that she didn't have access to in order to craft, in addition to power she could not wield while still struggling to acclimate to a foreign leyline.

Regardless however, the absurdity of the request begged the obvious question, and the girl in red felt a need to evaluate exactly what this person was planning.

"Oh? Okay, let me think of the metaphor I was trying to use."

Lucid put her hand to her chin, then made a humming noise. After a few minutes, she smiled as she remembered what she was going to say..

"So, pretend that I'm a massage cha- Oh, wait. That was Plan B's metaphor." She looked under the table. Okay, so Misae hadn't used her legs. Alright, definitely had to remember Part A. Right, a song meant to kill her. So the metaphor was....

"Salting the earth? Yeah, that's it!" She smacked her open palm with a fist. "Okay, so say that I had a really bad case of parasite-itis, where a giant parasite happened to be eating my organs. And say that it was connected to me enough that it'd die if I died. I figure that it's probably the easiest way to kill the target, by containing it in me and then blowing me up with a Hymnos spell!"

Clearly, Lucid was way too enthusiastic about being murdered via song.

"Well, the mechanism I've got planned is as follows. B- Oh, wait. Give me a second, the massage chair metaphor works here, too." So she started shaking her legs. "So, pretend that I'm a massage chair, but somebody messed up on the programming so I don't work. And for some reason, the company that designed that chair is really bad at tech support, so you're getting different pieces of software all written in different coding languages. And somehow, you have to make those different programs into one to get the super massage chair working right. Truly, computerized massage chairs are tough to get right."

She stopped moving, then pointed to Misae.

"When I said compatibility, it wasn't just talking about my weird brain stuff fitting in yours. I also meant powers. If Hymnos doesn't work to murder me using the system you're familiar with, then add in my system to create a massage chair of death! It'd take some work, but not as much as if you tried to port Perl to Haskell."

The fool giggled, then lowered her hand.

"So I guess hooking up my pure and powerful happiness to the idea of murdering me would get the right results, when it comes to the song crafting. Maybe something like 'With great joy, I will end your existence so as to bring happiness to this cherished world' would do nicely as an opener. Hymnos does seem to work better with positive emotions, after all. And given your ironclad insides, it'd be hard to feel happy about blowing me up with a song without a boost. That's the downside of being super elegant, I suppose~"
