Haha, Fate's questions were so funny!

"Oh? Didn't I tell you already?" Lucid laughed, her fingers tracing over the hoodie she wore. She couldn't count them, at this point. "You're a soldier, right? Your army has disciplinary measures, and my group has theirs. Some of us are too tough to be hurt by regular stuff, though."

She pointed to herself with a thumb, beaming in what appeared to be pride.

"Voodoo doll! Simple as that."

The blonde's reaction intrigued the fool, though. She could see the glimmers of it in those burgundy eyes and heard the concern in her sweet voice. Yep, that was a terminal case of hero disease. So that's the reason why she kept the S parts down, huuuh?

"I'm surprised, I'm really surprised! An S hero who doesn't like the S parts of herself? That can't do, not at all!" She leaned in close, face only inches away from her counterpart's. "Looks like you have to embrace it, Faaaate~!"

If the blonde wanted to be a true blue hero, then she had to conquer her own darkness. Suppression was not useful! Lucid had many co-workers who thought it was fine to live like that. As long as the darkness remained unconquered, it'd be easy to crack them open like a pinata!

Step 1? Engrave the marks of happiness in pain.

Well... that... kind of, made sense?

Now, there was one glaring issue with this, though.

Okay, an organization applying torture to keep their minions in check is not something too surprising. What was, though, was the fact that they left the mark visible on her skin. For what reason? A little 'memorial scar'? Don't super-secret organizations usually want all evidence of their torture to remain hidden? The Colonel at least make sure that no marks ever remained! After all, having evidence like that is more than just a little troublesome...

That either meant they had no problem being known, or that they had no means to cover it up! Probably. Fate's brain wasn't that dull when it came to things like this. She could have surprising moments of clarity in some super specific situations! To be fair, though, that was only there because logical thinking was beaten into Fate's mind.

...Baby steps! Some logical thought is better than no logical thought!

"I'm not an S!" Fate's reaction, this time, was a bit more fierce. Lucid was starting to anger Fate quite a bit. Calling her a sadist was one thing, but there was something just...

Argh.

Fate sighed and closed her eyes. One hand moved up to Lucid's face, pushing her back a bit. She had regained her calm, but not much more than that. There was still an annoying feeling of anger nibbling at her chest. "I'm really not, okay? ...What group are you working for?" the blonde did her best to shift the subject back. Her blood-red eyes voicing right on Lucid's face.

Whatever it was, it was bad, wasn't it? Something bad and not afraid to be caught...

Bleh. Fate wasn't all that good in dragging answers out of people without interrogation. And the only form of interrogation she knew would prove Lucid horribly right...

"Oh? Then why did you react that way when I said it? I know shame when I see it."

Lucid knew to look into Fate's eyes when the blonde would inevitably snap at her. That was be her most accurate measure of determine just how strong that feeling was. The joy of breaking the fool would come, she knew it. In this, she would drag others into the deep dark with her.

"I can't say their name~" She giggled. "Not right now, at least. You should know better than anybody else that orders are orders."

She tilted her head, her cat like smile rapidly growing creepier as she continued to stare at Fate.

"That is, unless you are willing to bring us down from the inside. All you have to do is pass my test and I'll give you a reference. Shed some blood. My blood. You want to be a hero and stop the bad people from hurting others? It's okay then, to smack me around. There would be a lot of innocents that you'd protect with that move."

Well, Fate was emotional. Fate could lash out a lot and do things without thinking as hard on them as they should... but it was hard for her to feel enough anger to legitimately want to hurt someone. Even rarer was it for her to even act upon those desires. Generally, she was too busy being cheery and energetic to do those things, aside from her rare moments of seriousness.

But now?

Well, Lucid's constant taunting, it was hard for the blonde to not to get angry.

"I said I'm not." Once more, firmly. It was downright insulting for her to have someone act like this, especially someone that barely knew her. She, a sadist? That's wrong. It's wrong! Lightning started to sparkle around the blonde, showing that she was kind of losing her self control. The little sparkles of lightnings started to transform into balls of energy. This mocking mockery, she had been doing it the entire time, hasn't she? How could she dare, how could she...

And then that creepy stare...

But what finally made her snap was when Lucid touched her rather apparent hero-complex. It was a sensitive subject for her. She joined the army to help people, she even suffered under the Colonel to help people! It wasn't like she wanted to be a hero...

She just wanted to ease everyone's suffering.

To Fate, Lucid's words were the most dangerous poison. Lucid barely even knew her, and she was making accusations like this!? Like she was doing it to be a hero!? Fate clenched her fists tightly. Her nails even dug into her skin far enough to cause a slight of blood to drip down her hands. Her teeth clenched together. Her body was visibly shaking and crackling with electricity. The scarlet hue of her eyes made her look like a bloodlusted demon.

Slowly, Fate rose her head. Jolting with fury.

But when she saw Lucid's eyes, it all disappeared.

Her body seemed to ease into a state of tranquillity. The demonic essence that seemed to take over her body had disappeared. The cackles of lightning silenced. It seemed like self-control had stopped Fate at the last moment.

But it hadn't.

Without a sound, Fate stepped forward. There was only one step before her speed would turn her into a blur. Her left hand would move and reach up, grasping at Lucid's throat... if she couldn't dodge, she would be smashed into the ground in the dark alleyway behind them. Fate's grip was tight, very tight. It was obvious that her body was honed to an admirable peak. She didn't intend for even a single breath to slip down Lucid's throat.

The darkness would slowly illuminate as six large spheres of lightning formed behind her, three on each side. A casual look might make it seem like Fate had sprouted wings of lightning...

Why was she putting up with this?

Lucid wasn't one of her superiors. Fate took their mockery and let them step on her ideals because they had no choice.

But Lucid?

Not only was this girl a young woman she owed nothing to... she made it fairly clear just now that she wasn't one the 'good side'.

Why would she hesitate in ending her life, or at least making her suffer a bit?

As soon as the lightning started flaring from the soldier's body, Lucid knew what was about to happen. She held out her arms and closed her eyes just before she was slammed against the ground.

Perfection.

Her body was tough. This would not be quick. But she didn't care. Even as the pain and the crushing airlessness of her situation started building, she put one hand to the strangling arm and started tracing letters on it.

YOUFEELGOODISEE

Her empty smile and eyes bored into Fate's. Truly, this was sublime.

KILLONEREPLACEONE

Ah, what a slow, painful death. The two of them savoured it.

This was not equivalent exchange. There was nothing of value that would be lost, and there was nothing of value that would be gained. But that was just her point of view. It didn't matter if Fate embraced or rejected the notion that this act was righteous. The descent into the deep, deep dark would begin.

A journey begins with a single step. Corruption begins with a single act of sin. And a single seed, watered with Lucid's blood....

This girl deserves it. She is evil.

In this one instant, Fate released all of her anger. Anger against Lucid. Pent up frustration from her training. She has been rejected the chance to let her emotions stream freely for so long now. She couldn't help it. All she could think about is letting it all out.

Evil needs to be punished. Evil brought nothing positive to the world. All it caused was suffering. Fate only knew this girl for a number of minutes, but she was obviously evil. No one would miss anyone this evil. From the very start, she had been preaching for death. Someone like that can't be changed. She was disciplined with chemical burns. There was no way she would stop being evil. It was even in her eyes right now, an emptiness that seemed to burn at her very soul. Sometimes, people needed to kill. They needed to be killed!

This wasn't the first time she had been the death of someone. It wouldn't be the last time. Colonel was right about what he said. Only a few people carry the strength to purge humanity, and purging it needed. If something is effected with necrosis, do you not amputate it? Do you not cut off all sources of a cancer? Lucid, people like Lucid... they were a plague. The only medicine is death.

But... this was the first time she actually felt the hate stream through her. She could feel the intent to end Lucid's life, right now. Right here. And the intent only strengthened when Lucid did her best to communicate. This was the first time she had ever felt it. It felt strange.

But... did it feel good...?

It couldn't.

"You... you..." the six bolts of lightning around her turned into spears and shot them straight at Lucid's body. One zoomed past her head and would smash into the ground besides her, while two others would awkwardly land besides Lucid's fallen legs. The impact of Fate's electric mauls would sound like a thunderstorm, even causing the ground beneath them to quake slightly.

It wasn't that she intended to miss Lucid, no. She simply couldn't aim anymore. Her anger had started to delude her senses, finally...

But the final two spears would hit their mark. If Lucid didn't reverse the situation at the last moment, they would slam into her shoulders, hitting with the force of a massive sledgehammer.

But Fate wasn't done with that. The more Lucid moved around. The... happier Lucid seemed to get with Fate's actions, the more violent she got. Her second hand joined in, trying to wring all of the life out of Lucid's body. "I'll kill you..." While she felt this endless rage boil through her veins, her expression and voice sounded nothing but empty. Fate's hands would yank Lucid's head up, before slamming it back down into the ground. Repeatedly.

"I'm going to... kill... you..."

Fate stood up. Her hands let go of Lucid's neck, instead using her right foot to stomp down on her face and to keep her still. Her left hand raised to the sky, as lightning seemed to cackle above her hand. The yellow energy manifested into a single orb much bigger than the ones she had used before... and it only seemed to grow in size. For thirty agonizing seconds, Fate gathered her strength. A strength very well capable of killing a person.

"I'm going to kill you... okay...?"

The haunting, empty tone she had earlier faded away.

Instead, her voice started to break. It was the pathetic tone of a fifteen year old that was about to become a murderer. But not just that.

The young murderer was asking her victim for permission.

Yes. This was the path to perfection that Fate had to take. The pain didn't matter to Lucid, who couldn't understand it for what it really was. All she had in mind was the deep, deep dark that her blonde counterpart was walking into. The purpose of a military product was destruction. And what was the greatest drive?

Pleasure! Carnal or otherwise, the pursuit of pleasure was something universally understood. It was a positive loop, one she could co-opt to twist Fate. Destroy, enjoy, destroy, enjoy, the faulty spiral that would plunge Fate ever deeper into the depths of madness would feel so, so good-

The sensation of her shoulders being broken brought Lucid out of it. Oh, so Fate was the thorough type. Splendid! She started laughing hoarsely, even as the blonde reached down and slammed her head against the ground over and over again. She could have avoided being put into this situation, but she didn't resist. She wouldn't.

This was 'gravity'. It was a force that would twist fate with its heaviness. And what could be heavier than the singularity called despair? Oh, yes. It was dragging their destinies straight into its infinite mass, and soon they would be enveloped by it. What a just end, huh?

But at the very last second, before she crossed the event horizon of the deep, deep dark, Fate wavered.

Lucid kept her eyes closed as the soldier kept her shoe on her face. Well now, this was an odd situation. Could it be... She'd tilt her bloodied head if she was able to move. Was it the case that there was an even stronger source of 'gravity'? Oh, my. That would be an unprecedented occurrence.

If that was the case, then she'd let it do the talking.

"Why does it matter?" Lucid asked, her voice slow with the accumulated damage done to her body. "It's what you're expected to do as a soldier."

She coughed, blood trickling out of the side of her mouth. Oh, the injury was more severe than she had thought.

"But you have a choice right now." She couldn't see, not with the boot trampling her forehead. 'Gravity' sure was leading her to weird conclusions. She had one last sentence, one last attempt to probe what was happening and try to understand it.

"I don't know what right and wrong are. You do. Would you choose to do something that's wrong?"

qWith a cackle of lightning, the ball of lightning started to shift and move, turning into a massive spear. It was ready to drop and impale Lucid, yet the tiniest bit of sanity that remained in Fate was the only thing keeping her from her spear. It was countering her rage with an overwhelming fear. Something deep inside of her knew, that if she murdered Lucid in cold-blood here, she would be just as bad as any other murderer. With just a little bit of rage and a little bit of goading, she would've been put to end the life of someone she barely knew.

'She was evil'

You don't know that, Fate.

'She admitted she's from an evil organization.'

All the more reason not to kill her, Fate!

It took long. Perhaps too long, but that wavering sanity finally took ahold of her heart again. That was why she asked. If Lucid gave her permission, she wouldn't be a killer. That would simply make this assisted suicide, right? Simply putting someone that wanted to die to their rest. There was nothing wrong with that. If someone wanted death this badly, if someone was so willing to embrace it, it wasn't murder, right...?

Fate.

What the...

A familiar voice echoed through her mind.

Is this how far your morals go?

That's right. This happened before, didn't it? A time where she lost her self-control and killed as a result. The situations were completely different, of course. But the last time she lost control, she killed people, too. It was an accident, because she was frightened... but it still happened. It was her fault. If she had a bit more self-control, it wouldn't have happened.

When her powers caused the plane to crash, Colonel had nothing but discontent for her. The very moment she found herself conscious, she found herself in his righteous fury. The girl, who often claimed she wanted to be a hero. who fully believed herself as someone that wanted to do nothing but help others, caused the death of others the instant things didn't go her way.

You're a selfish monster, Fate.

When your superior tells you that, all you can do is smile and nod. All you can do is be obedient and do your best to prove him wrong. But he was never proven wrong. Whenever she stepped in a direction her morals were supposedly against, he reminded her. Just like Fate herself was now, the Colonel was trying to guide Fate to her true self.

Between self-sacrifice and selfishness, Fate always choose selfishness.

But every time she did, she had an excuse. She didn't choose the selfish option because it was selfish, she took it because of a stronger, underlying reason! She knew it, she very well knew why she really choose that option. But the Colonel never believed her.

Right now, it was happening, too. She was doing her best to tell herself she had the right to kill Lucid. A right she knew she had. All of her heart told her she had that right, because there's no problem with killing a villain! Just like her plane crash was 'an accident'. She wanted to hurt herself, no the others. She wanted to purge the world of Lucid, not 'kill' her!

Lucid even said it herself, it was what she was expected to do as a soldier! To kill her enemies!

But... but...

Was she just trying to make excuses for everything?

"Thank you..."

Fate lowered her arm. The spear of lightning lost it's form, and discharged mostly-harmlessly. Because Fate hadn't fired it off, even the electronic discharge after was far less violent than it useless was. Two little lanterns at the height of the spear short-circuited and exploded, but other than that, no damage was done.

A sadist, a selfish monster... she went crazy, and almost killed someone just for insulting and mocking her. Had she not caught herself at the very end, she would've probably just continued to make excuses for herself. if she actually killed Lucid, she would have plenty of excuses to tell herself. But now that she was in the midst of the action, and that she actually stopped herself in time...

She could actually read her own heart.

"I guess you're right, I really am a sadist..."

With the sole light-source of the alley removed, it would slowly be swallowed by an eerie darkness. Not even the light of the daylight sky would seem to reach it anymore...

Oh, 'gravity'. This was all meant to be, wasn't it? Okay then. She'd accept it. Perfecting things took time and effort. So, she'd work with the situation. If Fate bent to the singularity of humanity, then Lucid would push her towards being more human. That's what the proper path seemed to be.

"Don't thank me. Thank yourself." Lucid coughed, red staining her pale skin. "You've still got all that gooey conscience. It makes you better than the monsters I know."

In the dark, that was who they were. Two 15 year olds, one broken and one empty. The truth was that they shouldn't be the way they were. But that perfect, ideal world where they weren't so twisted could never exist.

"You are a sadistic monster, but you also have a hero's heart. That's why it hurts so much. And it'll hurt really bad even if you go forward or back. But the road's still there, and you can always walk back to good guy land. That's one of those things I don't get, really. Doesn't it seem like the people who say 'I've gone too far' are just being morally lazy?" She coughed as she laughed painfully. Oh, wow. She should get to a hospital. Sleeping this one off didn't seem like it'd work.

"Oh, sure. There's always a time and place to quit. But not there. That's such a bad time it's funny. That line where people say they're irredeemable should not be said because that's the wrong attitude if they actually want to be saved. You want to be saved? Well, that means you deserve to be saved, too. So don't doubt your worthiness, only doubt your fashion sense!"

As much as she made light of the situation, Lucid did notice that pattern. She could understand from experience that the blonde had no easy way out. Descending into sadistic monstrosity was just as difficult for her as purifying herself into a true blue hero.

That confused Lucid, really. The people who said that abandoning one's humanity was the easy way out couldn't really understand the ones they yelled at. If it was so easy, why would it be so devastatingly painful that they'd even pour their hearts out to an empty little tool like Lucid and beg for validation? She didn't doubt anything. But they did. They doubted and crawled and agonized over everything. If she was capable of it, she'd sympathize with them more than the people who found it easy to be heroes.

Really, Lucid didn't want to see Fate go through such things as well. Perhaps it was some errant vestige of compassion she had for her fellow product. If Fate had to suffer, at least let the reward be a renewed sense of justice and happiness.

"A defeatist attitude fits you like that leather bodysuit. Not well. Not well at all. And you really would not be part of the military if you weren't a hard worker, so go be a hard worker for your own salvation! But remember, you also have friends. So be friends with them, let them help you fix your heart up, and stop wearing that black leotard looking thing! But keep the jacket. That is acceptable."

Like her being a true blue hero. Yep. Just like it.

There was no rejecting it. With the help of 'gravity', Fate had broken through the delusions that clouded her heart. Those of her being a selfless hero that did everything for the sake of others. How long had she been lying to herself? Did she always just look up at heroes of lore and legend, and thought she wanted to be 'known' like that, rather than to become one of them? Did she want to be the hero of legends, or did she want to have the legends of a hero?

Fate didn't want to think about it. But she couldn't stop. The delusions she held were what kept her standing the entire time she served under the Colonel. The idea that she was doing this just so she could help others was what kept her mind afloat. Her heart couldn't bare the pressure of these protective delusions being crushed. She thought people were worth killing if they annoyed her a little. She actually made excuses for doing what she did...

While tears had started to flow from her eyes, a smile appeared on her face. Fate had started to laugh. Or, at least, she was trying to get herself to laugh. It was clearly horribly awkward and forced, but 'laughter' is the cure of the heart. Maybe, if she focused on happy thing, maybe, if she focused on staying happy... she would rob herself from the truth she had forced to slowly accept.

Wait, wait.

Minds worked on electricity, right?

Maybe she could wipe it from her own mind?

She was the lightning, after all!

Her left hand rose up towards her head, grasping onto the side of her skull and digging her fingers in deep before starting to charge electricity. Would this even work? She had no idea how the human brain worked, and she was basically hoping that causing brain damage to herself would wipe her memories. Even a fool could see how far off she was now. After a few moments, her hand pulled back, shifting into a pistol shape as she pressed it against her temple. She could hear Lucid's words, but they all went lost on how her mind was starting to close itself off.

"I'll simply purify myself off it. Yes. I'll rewire my brain. He's done it to me before... I can do it to myself now, again!" Fate said, fully convinced of her own insanity. She didn't just want to erase the memories of this day, she wanted to use her lightning to change her very self. That's how a brain worked, right? With a little bit of electricity, she could reprogram everything, right?

If she screwed up, so be it.

It's not like she wanted to acknowledge this being she was witnessing as 'herself' if she didn't get this purged, anyway! She was not a person that would kill someone for nothing but revenge and anger. She wasn't someone that would bloody her own hands for any cause that wasn't pure. The accident didn't count, that was an accident! She never wanted to hurt anyone! And if there's anything in her soul that wanted to hurt anyone, it was to be destroyed.

Fate's red eyes closed.

A single bolt of lightning pulsed from her fingers... heading straight to her temple.

ate opened her eyes again. This time, their scarlet colour had been replaced by an empty blackness. Her hand fell down besides her body. A tiny trickle of blood was starting to stream down from her temple, making it obvious that her attack at least make contact with herself.

"Why are you haunting me, even now..."

The 'fear' that had been systematically removed from her system started to flood her mind once more. Her knees pulled up to her face, covering her discoloured eyes with her knees, before wrapping her arms around them. Her body would fall and collapse onto it's side. Darkness rose up from the very ground, slowly wrapping itself around Fate as if to protect her from harm.

But if Lucid came closer, it would obvious that it was doing the opposite. Just like Fate's lightning, this blanket of darkness cackled with power. Yet this let out a power much more ominous. Anything that came in close would feel a sensation as if cut by a million tiny blades. While they created no injury, a closer proximity to Fate would lead into a worsening pain.

It was an inevitability, Lucid believed. Fate was meant to find her way here, to the darkness and the lonely madness that was self-awareness. 'Gravity' drew people along paths that nobody could really understand, to destinities they didn't always want. That was the mystery of existence that confused her so. What was the point?

But today, she didn't consider the point of this path Fate was going down. All she thought was that maybe it would be a good idea to not let things get out of hand. Wow, this situation was really going to weird places even more confusing than usual. Manual brain rewrite? That wasn't the sort of thing people outside of Lucid's bosses should be doing, especially not a destined hero.

Hmm. But getting close hurt pretty bad, though. The part where she was being cut up did not do wonders for her body. So what to do? With dead arms, how could she snap the blonde out of this funk?

Oh. Yeah, she figured it out. She ran forward, going for a dropkick to Fate.

"LIAR PANTS SETH WOULD SAY CLENCH THOSE TEETH!"

Luckily, the sensation stayed as nothing but a sensation. It might feel like a bunch of knives were taken to Lucid's leg, but it would stay as that. Nothing but a feeling would shock her system, and no pain would actually be dealt. Dropkicking the darkness would feel like... well, dropkicking water! While a thickness would seem to grasp onto Lucid's leg, it wouldn't do anything but maybe slow it down.

And, well, not enough to make it not hurt.

...However, Fate's pain-receptors were very screwed up. When Lucid's foot connected with Fate's head, she let out a gasp of breath. It sounded far from unpleasant...

"A-ah, hey!" Fate would object, suddenly shifting about underneath the cloak of darkness. It seemed like that momentary sensation had driven her out of that dark depression, even for just a moment! Fate's hands latched out and up as it all disappeared, wrapping it around Lucid's leg and attempting to floor her in a slightly less violent way than she did earlier. She would use her speed to shift Lucid off balance and hopefully down and onto her butt.

"D-don't just... kick me like that." the blonde would say, a blush covering her face. One that she would quickly shake off, or at least try to! Gah, it was awkward, she didn't want people to know what the Colonel did to screw up how she felt pain...

It seemed like a shock of that... uh, unpleasant sensation had knocked her back into the real world, or at least temporarily.

"Uwaa?" Lucid sat up from her position on the floor, shaking her leg slightly before smiling. "Ohh. Whew. Thought it was going to fall off."

Wow, what a weird veil of darkness. Did the blonde's power really work that way? She just no-sold a kick, after all. Oh, well. She had to go and convince Fate to stop or something, right?

"So as it turns out, brain rewriting is not a thing a hero does. Unless somebody's brain is broken, I think. But your brain is not broken! You are not broken. Just looking at the wrong things. Waldo is not the darker parts of you, it's the light side! So look for Waldo before Odlaw. Also, don't rewrite your own brain unless you have a degree in brainology. You could've turned yourself into Etaf. And as we all know, everybody with a reversed name is what you'd call a bad guy."

The fool was retreading much of the same ground. Honestly, she did not have good nor bad intentions. She just said what seemed right for her goal.

"Really, isn't this the part where your hero buddies would go 'Fate, believe in yourself', riiight? Well, pretend they're saying that. You should think about it. You'd be betraying your own beliefs if you didn't really choose to be a hero, right? Somebody who can't deviate from their purpose is just a tool." She shimmied over.

"A person can choose to obey. A tool doesn't have a say. Are you a person or a tool? I think you're a person. Even if you really wouldn't want to choose because there'd be punishment for choosing something your superiors don't like, you can choose. So you are a person."

She reiterated her point and recycled a lot of words, but she didn't think that anything but a repeated pounding could get through. Fate had already tried to rewrite herself, so maybe nailing words through her skull was necessary.

"And as a person, as somebody who wants to be a hero, the first thing you need to learn is that heroes are heroes to everybody. Even to themselves. And that means no self-harm. Also, you'd have to make your jacket dark if you became Etaf, and that's a drop in fashion style. The white jacket contrasts nicely with that bodysuit you haven't gotten rid of."

She'd rub her chin if her arms weren't useless right now.

"I guess the main point is that you're a good person who does really dumb things sometimes. You should learn from me! If you can imagine me doing it, you might not want to do it." She said proudly.

Lucid's words fell on deaf ears once again. Fate couldn't keep her focus on one subject right now. While she was keeping her head away from depressing thoughts, she was doing it by letting absolutely everything distract her.

...Basically, aside from the fact that she had a reason this time, she had returned completely to normal!

Fate's eyes scattered aimlessly around the area around her, hearing but not really processing the things that Lucid were saying. Something something speech something something Etaf. A strange, innocent gleam had snuck into her gaze. With her genuine genkiness flowing back into her body, all taints of her earlier depression had completely faded away.

"How do you manage to stand upright with breasts that big, anyway?"

Only now did Fate realise that Lucid's proportions were all kinds of wrong. Hell, only now did the general details of Lucid's appearance stream into her mind! She was kind of height impaired, but very not size impaired! It looked kind of weird. After saying that, however, her eyes went back to trailing around the alleyway, tipping her feet along as she took a deep breath.

A few words did stick with her, among the mass of words that flowed into one ear and just-as naturally flowed out, one particular statement stuck out to her.

Not losing her innocent and pure smile, Fate turned towards the white-haired girl.

"What about you? Are you a tool?"

Fate did not respond to Lucid's words other than this very specific comment. Hell, to her, htis was pretty much the only thing Lucid had said! That was how distracted she was.

"Can you choose to disobey?

Her smile turned a bit more eerie. There had to be some reason this girl knew of this specific... well, problem. Maybe she had been given this exact same speech earlier in her life? Maybe she worried about being one herself? Whatever the reason was, Fate felt like dragging it out.

It wasn't her sadism, this time. It was simply a childish curiosity.

"I mean, there's hundreds of ways to make a tool, right? And wouldn't the best tool be one that thinks they aren't a tool? He explained it to me, you know... Tools that love you, tools that are boundlessly loyal to you are the best ones."

Fate was neither boundlessly loyal nor in love with her Colonel, as her eternal 'fear' gave one a loyalty just as strong... but generally without the lunacy that can come from either.

ZEHAHAHA!!
"That's an odd question." Lucid looked down at her own chest. "I'm not that big."

Well, maybe her perception was a little skewed given who her co-workers were. And it wasn't like she was an equal to Fate in height or bust. Oh, well. At least the blonde was happier about things now. And apparently rather philosophical right now, too. This was the final push, she could feel it.

"I guess I am a tool. I chose to serve, because I love Scarlett!" For the first time, she sighed dreamily. "Oh, my super boss. She gave me a chance when nobody else would. I'll die long before I leave her service, if ever."

That Colonel guy sure knew his stuff. But given the lengths that her benefactor went for her, even to the point where it became actively detrimental to her own standing within their organization.... Lucid was sure that even if she was a tool, Scarlett sure didn't have such a low view of her.

"You know my reasons. I know yours. I guess we can both be tools together, huh?" She asked cheerily. "We serve, but we aren't at cross-purposes. So it should be fine to have more fun, yep."

The fool kneeled down, arms flapping uselessly at her sides. For what reason did she continue to talk, to infect others with nonsense? She leaned in close, a big smile on her face despite the pain shooting through her shattered bones.

"One day, if you think you want to serve somebody else... Go ahead and let me know. Freedom is not so precious that it can't be replaced with a healthy dose of servitude~"
