So he can’t use it himself… That definitely comes as a relief. But then who is it for? Sophia briefly considered that there was no way anyone could misuse the power more than Adour, but chided herself for such a thought. Yes, Adour was a terrible person, but unfortunately there are always those that are worse. Hopefully this “friend” of his would turn out to be the lesser of two evils. Who knows, maybe he or she will actually be someone more reasonable than the blonde man.

… Which actually isn’t saying a lot considering it’s Adour they’re talking about here. Whatever the case, it was beyond Sophia’s control unless she can destroy the notes somehow, or at least keep it out of the wrong hands. “…I don’t suppose I could convince you that such power shouldn’t be in mortal hands.” The Valkyrie’s voice was calm, but deathly serious. “It’s too dangerous for anyone to use, it should be sealed away or even destroyed. Maybe Larue realized that and destroyed his notes and himself to prevent it from being used again, even by himself.”

It was a last ditch effort to resolve this peacefully. The chances of success were slim to none, but Sophia felt that it couldn’t hurt to try. Besides, this was the real world, she couldn’t outright attack him, especially not in a hospital. Diplomacy was her only weapon now, a weapon against a psychotic madman.

What wouldn’t she give for this day to be over…

Posted Image"Oh, I'm aware of that," Adour shot back slyly. "'Absolute power corrupts absolutely'," the blonde recited grandiosely, like a speaker upon a podium. "Is that what you're going to say?"

Adour made a brushing motion with his hands, before leaning forward. "But the gods are complacent and boring. People are so much more interesting! They have incentives, motives, purpose! Desire. All those things which keeps the wheel turning!"
Posted Image"But you are right, if only partly. Larue went mad after using the spell, the management of an entire reality proved too much for him." Adour extended a finger into the air.

"Let me tell you; the real Larue died a few years ago. The one you and I saw in that space was a piece of his own consciousness he had placed there back when he first made the world. A sort of a save state. Sadly, he never realized the potential of the system he had developed." Again, Adour gave off a regretful shrug, standing up.
Posted Image"Simply put, he was a lesser man, who gave up everything he had and more for recognition, only to be left a crisp husk." He stretched lightly, raising his hands skyward.

"And his students seemed to have no desire to continue their teacher's work, though I guess you can't really blame them. He did forfeit their lives, after all." That devilish smile. "But, it would be a shame to let it go to waste." Adour took a few steps forward, standing beside the television. That game show was still running. The running man kept running. And those fakes voices kept laughing.

"So, how about you? Despite what I may wish, I honestly doubt you came here to see me~"

Larue’s demise was news to Sophia, but it was hardly unexpected. All power was bound to have consequences, and the power to create worlds… well, there’s a reason it’s something that’s limited to gods. “And does your friend think he can master this power? What use is it to you if you go insane when you use it?”

The Valkyrie walked forward, stopping when there was scarcely a metre between her and Adour. “It might seem like a waste, but is it really worth it? Is it something that can truly be tamed?” She held one hand behind her back, quickly tracing the rune of the Valkyrie. Hopefully time within that world and in the real world was different so her power would work. Well, there was no way to tell until she activated it.

“I’m actually surprised you would wish for me to visit you Adour. Even if we did briefly work together once it hardly means I am your friend. No, I’m here for someone else, and don’t bother asking who, it’s none of your business.”
Truth was she didn’t know who the injured man was at all, she was just here to make sure things went smoothly and that he didn’t come to further harm. “Quite the contrary I didn’t expect to see you here of all places, what are you doing here anyways?”

Posted Image"I guess. Well, I would bet that he has something thought up so that he doesn't end up like Larue," the blonde spoke without saying anything at all. "He doesn't seem like the type that would do something unless he was sure of it. Though, I guess that's not saying much either~" the hooded boy laughed at his own roundabout way of speaking.

"But who knows?" Adour mused playfully. "If I did, I wouldn't be here now, would I?"
Posted Image"That's too bad," he sighed. "And I thought we got along quite well." It was impossible whether he was speaking truthfully or not. Maybe because there was no distinction between the two for him.

"As for why I'm here..." Adour opened his eyes as Sophia approached him, a stern expression falling atop him like a curtain.

"Well, I'm here for the same reason you are. More or less. That, and I also happen to be waiting for someone."

So, Adour knew about the other boy who was in the alleyway. Then again, should Sophia really be surprised about that? He had the rather inconvenient ability to know things. Or, rather, to become aware of them. There was no knowing what Adour would do though; he was an enigma, as unpredictable as the wind. It didn't look like he was here to cause damage, otherwise there would be no reason for him to be in the waiting room with Sophia.

However, one thing he seemed to not notice was the rune Sophia hid behind her back. And her guess would prove to be correct; Sophia would be able to feel the energy build up as her fingers passed through the air. Whatever restrictions successive use of her power had, it seemed to not be in affect. She would be able to call upon it, if she so choose.

“You seem to know everything, don’t you? I don’t know why I even bother to be surprised anymore.” Sophia sighed in annoyance. Somehow Adour always managed to one-up her and it was really getting on her nerves. “I guess I also shouldn’t be surprised that you won’t give me a straight answer, you never do after all.”

She thought about their situation for a moment and dispelled the magic she had gathered, feeling a light stinging pain as the magic left her body. It wasn’t worth fighting now, not when there are so many innocents that could get caught in the crossfire. Besides, she had the aching suspicion that he knew what she was up to, even if he didn’t show it.

But as much as she disliked talking to him, the silence was even worse to her. “I don’t suppose you’re willing to tell me how you know the injured man or what your relationship is, are you? Or how about who you’re waiting for? I know you love being vague and mysterious, but a name would be greatly appreciated for once.”

Posted Image"Not everything," Adour corrected immediately. "Just more than you." The blonde grin again, coinciding as Sophia released her spell. A bit too coincidentally. Perhaps Sophia had made the right move in refraining from striking this irritable character.

"You know me so well!" Adour laughed tauntingly.
Posted Image"Though, the thing is Sophia, you should be much more clear on that matter. Even more so than me." Adour made a sullen face. "Frankly, I don't know the person in that room. I know of him, but I don't know him," he remarked, pointing a lazy finger to the door a short ways off. "And I'm fairly certain he doesn't know me." Adour retreated his hand, a pensive look about him.

"As for the person I'm waiting for..." Adour bit his tongue. "Well, you'll get your answers soon enough."
Posted Image"You're right; I do enjoy being 'vague and mysterious'. But since it seems to bother you so much, I'll make an exception. I'll be blunt," Adour finally gave in, sighing wistfully.

"I'll give you a name." The blonde then lifted his finger, pointing towards the closed door.

"Evray Estus. But you already knew that, right?" Adour smiled, confident that Sophia, in fact, didn't. But, then again, it didn't really matter. She had asked for a name, and he had given her one.

Sophia did her best not to look alarmed when Adour mentioned Evray’s name. They knew each other? Come to think of it, it wasn’t impossible that Adour had been asked by Evray to investigate the world within him. If that was the case it wouldn’t be too strange that they’re meeting now to discuss what happened… well, inside him.

“… No I did not know that. I thought it might be a tad awkward considering we were just inside him, but since when did something like that stop you?” She waved her hand dismissively, trying to look nonchalant. “Of course this raises about a dozen more questions, but I think I’m better off trying to get answers from Evray, no offense.” That last bit was full of sarcasm and a bit of a hit at Adour, but after what he put her through it was a miracle that Sophia had the restraint she showed. The Valkyrie sighed and leaned against a nearby wall. “You don’t mind if I wait with you, do you?”

Posted Image"Too literal." The man shrugged.

"Suit yourself. Its within your freedom whether to stay or not," Adour furrowed his brow as Sophia spoke. Perhaps something that she said had irked the man; rubbed him the wrong way. Disappointed, that would describe his reaction accurately.

Adour took a seat on the opposite side of the room, before sprawling out like a drunkard and rolling his head to the ceiling. He had no more interest in talking.

Which meant all that was left was to wait.

Complete silence took hold of the room, as what was once their voice was now a void. If one paid enough mind, whispered murmurs and groans could be picked out behind the hallway of closed doors. Of course, the ever present laughing from the television set still droned on. But aside from those inconsequential things, it was silent.

Then the creak of a door.

A disgruntled figure stepped out of the room. Messy hair fell around a slim pair of glasses, with a white coat denoting that the individual was a doctor. In fact, that was the only designation to the person's identity, as there was no other shred of professionalism anywhere else upon her person. As she walked past, Sophia would be able to glimpse incomprehensible uttering escape her breath.

The footsteps stopped.

The strange doctor turned towards Sophia. And then the hooded man in the corner. And then back towards Sophia. She opened her mouth, before closing it again. Bringing up a hand, she scratched the side of her head, her mouth taunt into a squiggling line.

Posted Image"I'm guessing... You two know the patient. The one in there?" the doctor enunciated slowly, as if in a daze. It was unknown just how she arrived at the conclusion, though it probably wouldn't be too hard to guess, as they were waiting just outside the door.

The doctor paused, though not to wait for Sophia to confirm her, but because she couldn't find what else to say. Idly, her finger twirled through her messy locks.

"If so. Please give me... A history. What happened...? I've never... Seen a case like this. Before." She spoke in broken syntax, with a tone that wasn't shy, but not entirely comfortable either. Her eyes flecked from Sophia to Adour.

Adour, on the other hand, didn't even spare the doctor a single glance.

Well this was awkward…

As time went on Sophia found herself wishing that something, anything, would happen to break this uncomfortable silence. At this point even the mindless droning of the TV was better, but even it soon stopped being a suitable distraction after a while. Fortunately someone else joined them, but not the one she was expecting.

“You’re the doctor in charge of him I take it?” Sophia walked up to the doctor, neither affirming nor denying her claims. Besides, it didn’t look like she needed any confirmation anyways. “How is he? Will he be okay?” Even if she didn’t know the patient her concern was genuine, though not necessarily for the reason the doctor thinks.

The doctor almost jumped back as Sophia spoke suddenly, with words that in no way pertained to her query. She replied with a face of confusion, as if the Valkyrie had spoken in another language. It would become apparent to Sophia, as the silence drawled on, that this doctor was rather quirky.

Posted Image"...H-he's fine. I think. I'm not sure," the doctor stuttered out after a delay, being knocked out of rhythm by Sophia's question. Unlike Adour, it didn't seem like the doctor was purposefully being ambiguous.

"He's conscious. Also in a sound state of mind. Condition stable. But..." the doctor's voice dropped, as she seemingly withdrew mentally in herself. A sprawled off tangent; she in fact had no idea what was occurring with the patient. It was a simple-

"Conundrum. Doesn't talk. Nothing about that injury on his hand, or his irregular pulse. Should be in cardiac arrest. But nothing," the doctor pace picked up, as her words were relegated in broken fragments.

"Missing a flag or something."

Adour made a small motion, tilting his head, as the doctor spoke, but otherwise remained silent and seemingly indifferent.

This all seemed very irregular. If what the doctor said was true he should be a very serious state, but yet he’s not… It seemed like there was something supernatural in the works here. Could it be that he was a doll like…

No time for that, it was time to talk to the patient. “Conscious but not responsive? That’s probably because he only wants to talk to his friends.” Sophia chuckled lightly, though there was no humour in her tone. “You won’t mind if we talked to him, would you?” The Valkyrie locked eyes with the nurse, making it quite clear that her question was just a formality. She would have tried the same on Adour, but she was pretty sure the blonde wouldn’t be swayed so easily.

…Val sure was taking her time though… Sophia hoped she’d get back soon.

The doctor replied with a blank stare at Sophia's attempt at humor. Or anti humor, going by her sardonic tone. In any case, the girl's wordplay, including its comedic irony, flew over the doctor's head like a passing wind. It was clearly evident that the doctor was out of sync in things such as social etiquette, or even how to hold a conversation properly. But, then again, would any normal person reply to Sophia's statement with anything but confusion?

"Go ahead," the doctor gave her permission, perhaps a bit too lightly. After all, she didn't knew who these two were, or even if they were relate to the patient. Surely, there was some rule somewhere in the hospital's policy that forbid allowing just any individuals to visit the sickly, right? There probably was, but she was too busy to worry about that.

Notes.

Knowledge.

Experience.

All the things she needed; she didn't even know where to start with a diagnosis. Most magecraft induced injuries occur to mages, and most of those disliked the idea of a public healthcare system, preferring their own private resources. That made the number of case studies little and far between. And being the only resident for this ghost of a department, meant that she would have no easily accessible reference. She would have to grind extensively to get to the bottom of this.

The doctor nodded to herself.

"In there. He's stable. Though shouldn't be," the doctor muttered quickly, pointing a finger to the door she had come from moments ago. Then, as briskly as she had come, the doctor headed off, further down the hallway. "Ping if he says anything." With that last greet, the doctor disappeared behind an heavy door, the words "Authorized Personnel Only" emblazoned in crimson red. The metal door closed with a loud click.

Now, it was just two in the hallway. And an open door.

Sophia nodded at the doctor in thanks and watched as she disappeared off to another room. She had an odd feeling that there was something suspicious about the doctor, but couldn’t quite place it. Sure she might be a little… off, but that shouldn’t be enough to condemn her. Besides, there was another doctor that was a little strange, but had nonetheless proved to be a trustworthy ally.

Shaking her head the Valkyrie stepped towards the room to where her “friend” was. Being around Adour so much was probably making her overly suspicious, that and the fact that she was lying to the doctor about her relationship with the patient. She glanced back at the blonde man. He had been rather quiet since the doctor showed up… hopefully he wasn’t planning anything devious...

Adour met Sophia's eye gaze.

Posted Image"Looking for something?", the blonde remarked slyly. It wouldn't take a magus to figure out why Sophia was looking at him like that. He found it amusing how she almost expected him to try something underhanded as soon as she turned her back.

The blonde waved off Sophia, telling her to go ahead.

"Don't worry. I'll behave," Adour winked, chuckling. "Go have fun~"

The room was starkly lit, a sharp contrast to the darkness outside. A window was present, the night sky encroaching into the room from behind thick curtains. A bed laid just beside that, surrounded by all the expected tools and gadgetry commonly found in the hospital room. And then, there were some items that one would not expect in an ordinary resting room. A television set was situated on a cabinet opposite the curtain, within comfortable reach of the patient. Currently, its screen was a dull black, suggesting that the machine was off, filling the room with silence. On the other side of the room, a luxurious brown sofa was placed against the wall, perhaps for visitors. However, Sophia might feel that it was a bit out of place in a room such as this.

And, off to the side, upon a forgotten pedestal, was an empty flower vase.

Regardless of all these things, however, what the Valkyrie had come here for was seated beneath the blank sheets. A pale young man, with raven locks and ruby eyes. The figure shifted sightly as Sophia entered the room, registering her presence, but otherwise saying nothing. His breaths came in sharp and irregular takes, as if each was a chore. But, aside from the minor quirk, the boy seemed normal; all the grime and blood had been removed from him, and he was changed from his bloodied clothes. The boy's left hand was also wrapped in heavy layers of bandage; an indexterous stub appended to his body.

The boy looked up, staring straight at the Valkyrie.

"You..." Despite his shortness of breath, Evray's voice came out clearly. "Madame Antistitia. Why are you here?"

The boy let out a sigh, before turning his head to the curtains.

"Leave. I have nothing to say to you." His voice was like ice, bellying genuine disdain underneath his soft tone. Though Evray was not the most sociable, hospital or friendly person in the world, even Sophia could see that the man seemed a bit "off".

“Hmph. I’m more worried that your definition of ‘behaving’ will end in disaster…” While Sophia believed every word she said, she also knew she couldn’t do anything about it right now. So instead of worrying about it she turned her attention to the mysterious patient… only to find that he was a familiar face.

It took a little effort, but she managed to hide her surprise at seeing Evray here. In hindsight it made sense that it would be him, seeing how she did wake up next to him after leaving the world that was supposedly his body. It sort of made her wonder if she was responsible for him being like this. He even died supposedly…

The young man’s harsh words snapped Sophia out of her thoughts. Honestly speaking she was a bit taken aback at his attitude, but considering what happened, it wasn’t too surprising. “Is that any way to greet the one who brought you here?” The Valkyrie smiled wryly, trying to ease the tension somewhat. “Besides, I’m only trying to help, and the first step is to figure out what happened. Do you remember how you got hurt?” She already had a good idea, but she wanted to find out how much Evray knew first. If at all possible, she didn’t want to alienate him, and if he knew she had a hand in destroying his favourite doll… Let’s just say he probably wouldn’t take too kindly to that.
