rebellion monologue 1

Posted ImageWhen Sophia came to, she would find herself in the Hyakujian night. A light breeze blows over the nighttime air, carrying on it the sounds and nuances of urban life. Cars, voices, chatter, and a myriad of others from the hectic lives city folk have. Even at such a late hour, every big city like Hyakuji would have a nightlife.

But that was a bit away, at least a block off. Closer, Sophia would find herself in a dingy alleyway, propped against the wall of a building. How did she get here? What time was it? It was obviously later than when any student should be awake, much less off the campus. Wasn't she in her dorm, holding respite? How did she ended up in some alleyway downtown? Well, whether she remembered or not was up to her, because something else would then steal her attention.

Voices. They were closer than the sounds of laughter and drunkenness from beyond the alleyway. Off to the side, congregated. And from the sound of it, more than one. She couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but judging by their tone, it would seem like something excitable, yet a bit threatening. If she turned her head, she would see forms of all different shapes and sizes, though they all looked human in shape.

One of those shapes, a short one, turned to face Sophia. As she did, what meager light that entered the street illuminated her face.

Posted Image"You're finally awake, huh?" the girl spoke, taking a step in Sophia's direction. Despite her casual tone, a seat of concern was present. Her appearance was haggard, hair a mess and dirt upon her clothes, as if she had fallen down on the street somewhere. She was wearing an unknown school uniform. And, perhaps Sophia couldn't help but think that it was way past her bedtime.

"Can you stand up?" the girl asked, reaching out a hand to Sophia. Pink fingernails. A recognition lit through the girl's eyes.

It was Valerie. Though she looked completely different, something about the girl allowed Sophia to recognize her.

Behind her, the circle of people continued their conversation in hushed voices, a sense of urgency present in their tone. Though, as Sophia's awareness began to return, like waking from an heavy slumber, their words began to clear.

"...can't be good. There's-"

"SO much blood!"

"Don't say something like that with that smile."

"Where is he? Is he coming?"

"He's on his way." A sharp click, like a lock clicking together. "So is the ambulance." Shuffle of cloth. "I don't think he'll make it in time though. We'll have to think of something."

It seemed like there was some kind of accident, and somebody was injured. And judging by the sound of their voices, it was dire. However, if Sophia tried to move at all, she would find Valerie in her way, keeping her in place with surprising strength.

"Don't even think about it," Valerie whispered commandingly at Sophia. "You're nearing your limit too." Though Sophia wasn't injured, it was probably true that she was nearing her limit. Valerie just wanted to make sure they wouldn't have to worry about another casualty. Of course, if Sophia so wished, she could probably overpower the small girl...

Posted ImageTurning her head to the circle, Valerie shouted "Put some pressure onto the wound! Try and slow the bleeding!" Her voice was surprisingly loud, despite her small frame. Perhaps it was the school uniform, or the lack of the scythe, but Valerie seemed younger than before. Though her temperament was more or less the same.

"I'm trying...! But, his whole arm it's... gone! I don't know where its all coming from!" One of the chorus replied, a husky, deep baritone.

"That thing's not normal. We should cut it off." A higher one, female. But an amalgamation of darkness, excited coolness yet controlled and disciplined.

"No! This isn't the time for your jokes!"

Valerie made a small sound, part annoyance and part anger. By now, Sophia's vision would've probably adjusted to the darkness. Off to the side, behind Valerie, she would see what looked like two men, one much bigger than the other, and a woman with long hair. The big man and woman were kneeling over, their attention focused with something on the ground, whilst the other stood a short distance away. And then, Sophia would be able to detect a pungent scent. Though the alleyway had its fill of filth and waste, this scent stood out from the rest.

It was everywhere. Streams covered what little of the ground illuminated by the moon or stray city lights. What she had thought was dirt, wasn't. The thing untangled upon Valerie's fingers, hairs and clothes, and presumably even her own.

It was the iron smell of blood.

“Ugh…. I… wha…” Sophia awoke as if from a cryogenic sleep. Her vision was dim and all she heard was a mass of random noises surrounding her. Shortly after she realized that it wasn’t her vision that was dim, rather it was night time in… Hyakuji? So she was back now… She sat up and held her palm up to her head, trying to ease a throbbing headache. It was then that she realized the random noises around here weren’t actually that… they were voices.

Sophia stood up as quickly as her aching body would allow and tried to focus on the people surrounding her. She saw many figures, but none she could identify, let alone recognize, until… “Val… I see you made it too.” The Valkyrie gave the Reaper a small smile, but it soon faded away as she caught bits and pieces of the conversations around her, and smelled a very familiar scent.

Blood…

“Val… What happened here? Who are all these people…? And who’s that…?” Sophia gestured at the person(?) lying in the pool of blood that was everywhere. Looks like she won’t be able to rest just yet…

Posted ImageValerie turned back to Sophia, taking a step back to allow her to stand. Her eye gave off a calm and collected stillness, despite what was happening around her. She nodded in confirmation.

"Someone was following us," Valerie stated, before shaking her head a moment later. "He arrived seconds after we did," she whispered, in case Sophia questioned if she had been the one to injure him. That would mean whoever it was, it wasn't Adour. Valerie herself let out a sigh of relief, before shaking her head again at Sophia's next question.

"I don't know who it is. Maybe another person that was caught in that place." She frowned, her expression troubled
Posted Image
Valerie glance over her shoulder, biting her lip.

"Don't worry about them," Valerie replied. "Despite what they look like, they're trustworthy. Most of the time." She made a note of raising her voice, so that the assembled shadows could hear her.

As if on cue, heavy footsteps approached the duo. The steps were like thunder, its echo booming over the splashing as the sole stepped over blood. The figure came closer, the big one, and it took no genius to see that it was the propagator of the steps. Each step took it closer, before the figure stood before Sophia, illuminated by the moon.

Posted Image"It doesn't look good. I've never seen injuries like that," the giant man spoke to Valerie. Sophia would find that she needed to tilt her head upwards to look him in the eye. However, she would also discover that the man wasn't exactly a man, he seemed only a few years older than herself.

The man glanced at Sophia.

"What the hell happened here?"
Posted Image"Nothing!" Valerie snapped, before Sophia could utter a sound.

"W-we were just walking home from a... birthday party! We decided to take a shortcut through the alleys and then we saw him and then I called you guys and then you came and..." Valerie prattled on, very uncharacteristically of her.

The big man thought so too, saying suspiciously "A birthday party...?"

"W-what?! I have other friends too!" Her face was beet red, and despite how composed she normally was, Sophia could tell that she was a bad liar.It looked like the girl was desperately trying to keep something from these people, despite calling them trustworthy prior.

"Don't you have more important things to do than interrogate me?!"
Posted Image"Guys..."

"I'm not interrogating anyone," the man spoke slowly. "But those wounds aren't normal. They aren't something you would get from some rabid dog or street fight."

"Guys~"

"This is serious. If whatever did this is still on our streets, it would mean big trouble for everyone!" The headband wearing giant raised his voice, just enough so that even Valerie halted her refute. The bluenette than turned to Sophia.

"Do you know who did this?"
Posted Image"Guys," the voice spoke calmly, as a dignified figure stepped in between the boy and the girl. The two silenced at this individual's entrance.

"I really think we should cut it off."
"..."
"Ichinose..."
Posted Image"Fine then, have it your way," the young woman sighed, seemingly disheartened.

"By the way, his heart stopped beating thirty two seconds ago. His last breath was forty five. In case you were interested."

"What?! And you waited that long to tell us?!"
"Its just that no one ever pays attention to me~"
A look of urgency invaded Valerie, as she completely forgot about the prior bicker with the man. Her air of professionalism returned, as she stepped around Ichinose and headed for the body on the floor.

"The ambulance won't be here for at least another ten minutes," a voice reached in from further down the alley. "Yoshino might be faster, but there isn't much he could do to help anyways." A shuffle of clothe, as the still unknown individual of the group presumably shrugged.

"So, what now?" For dealing with a critically injured individual, on the verge of dying, two of this group seemed oddly nonchalant.

“Step back.”

Sophia’s voice cut through the people huddled around the fallen man and she knelt down next to the body. His heart may have stopped, but there’s still some time before it was too late. Even if she wasn’t a doctor there was still something she could do to try and save the man’s life. The question is... should he be saved? She didn’t see anyone else near the portal before they stepped through, so this man probably wasn’t in the same realm as them. Besides, his intentions were unclear, and he could very well be an enemy…

No, a life was at stake here, and Sophia wasn’t one to let someone die just because they might be an enemy. Placing her hand over his heart she began whispering in a melodic chant, calling upon Eir to give her strength. Her hand glowed with a soft white light, which then expanded to encompass the man’s chest. There wasn’t anything the Valkyrie could do about his arm, but hopefully her magic was enough to restart his heart and save his life.

As Sophia began to walk, she would realize that a sloshing sound would erupt from the floor with every step. Though it wasn't particularly hard to walk through, the liquid would stain up to her ankle. Sophia's training would tell her that that was a lot of blood for one person to lose. And it would be even more dramatic when Sophia would come upon the corpse.

The figure seemed male, slim build, but beyond that it was hard to tell. It wore casual slacks, and dress shoes, though a ragged hoodie covered any other part that might give away his identity. Even the color of his hair was hidden, under the stained white clothe and the lack of lighting in the dingy alley.

However, what the garment did not hide, was the red. The overflowing, prevalent redness. It would only take a moment to see where it was deepest, darkest. The source of root. What the big man had said was correct, the wound was situated on the boy's left arm. But just what kind of wound it was was unclear. The dispersion of blood was entirely even along the limb, as if every one of his pores leaked blood. As if his body, at least that one part, had decided to stop living. And die. It sounded impossible, but...

Posted Image"Sophia..." Valerie muttered, as she knelt down beside her. Her voice was tinged with worry, she knew what the Valkyrie was planning to do, and that she was in no position to perform her spell. However, they didn't have much else of a choice.

Otherwise, this person would-
Posted Image"What are you doing?" A voice called out suddenly from the shadows. That fifth voice, shrouded in darkness. Now that Sophia was closer, she could see his face clearly. Messy dark brown hair, and sharp violet eyes. A pair of red headphone slung loosely about his neck.

"He's dead. His soul's already gone. There's nothing anyone can do now." The young man stepped forward, crossing his eyes as he stood opposite of Sophia. However, beyond that , he made no move to hinder or stop her.

And what Ren said seemed true; Sophia's healing had about as much effect as if she had tried to heal a pot or a kettle. Or a doll. A broken toy. There was no reaction, aside from the draining feeling of fatigue as she exerted herself. For even with "Magic", no one could return life.

"Just give up."

"Ren!"

"Can we chop it off then? It's really bugging me."
"Quiet."

She should have known it was too late, all that blood should have been a good enough indication that the man was already dead, but Sophia thought that just maybe she could have made a difference. Maybe if she could use Sanctuarium Angelus he might have been brought back, but alas she had already used it on Rayne. She sighed there was nothing she can do now, and she knew it. Such was the consequences of flaunting her powers, worst part is the people she had saved back in the wastelands were probably all dead by Mara’s hand.

The Valkyrie stood as the voice of a man chastised her for her efforts. “It is better to try and fail than to do nothing at all. I didn’t see you try to help him, and you were here while he was still alive.” Sophia gave him a sharp glare before returning her attention to Val. “What will you do now? Judging from all these people it desn’t look like your task is done just yet.”

Posted Image"Hmph," The boy scoffed, his brow furrowing slightly at Sophia. "What do you know? How much can you actually see?" It sounded more like a statement, a challenge, than an actual question. Ren shrugged, unfazed with Sophia's glare. Reaching up with his hand, the boy took hold of his headphones, cupping them around his ears.

"Whatever. I'm the one that has to clean up this mess." He spoke with a tone of dismissal, showing that he was not at all interested in Sophia's views or willing to offer an explanation for his own.
Posted Image"I... guess not," Valerie admitted sadly, as her downcast eyes stared down at the casualty. Her voice was shaking, seeming nothing at all like the avatar of death that was reminiscence her form in that world. Or, perhaps, because of her close affinity with death, that she was especially sensitive to its occurrence?

"I will stay here," she replied automatically to Sophia's question. "We should see him off, at least until the ambulance gets here."
Posted Image"Task?" the big man spoke from behind Sophia. "Val, what's she talking about? Is there something you need to do?"

"Its nothing, Masato. I don't want to talk about it." She didn't even glance up at the spiky haired guy. As for Masato, he seemed to have the sense to stop pursuing the issue. Masato glanced down at Sophia, a pensive look upon his face.

However, then, something happened. Something that shouldn't have, or have any reason to. Without a cause, a spontaneous rupture of phenomenon. Though none there would notice it at the time, something extremely miraculous was about to happen. Something that will hold them all in bewilderment, and then be forgotten within the day. Some would call it a mystery, but it was more than that. It was a miracle. Magic.

However, it was actually a mistake. The world had made a blunder.

Posted Image"Woah," Ichinose suddenly exclaimed, her eyes closed. She looked like she was straining, as if trying to pick out a whisper on a busy street.

"This feeling..."
Posted Image"Oho?~" Suddenly, the blue-haired girl smiled; a dangerous and mischievous expression.

"Gentlemen, it seems like we've got ourselves a magus! An actual user of magecraft! And, judging by his prana, he doesn't seem like an hack either!" Ichinose chuckled softly, causing all the others to turn to her. Even Ren temporarily stopped, pulling uncovering one of his ears.

"What are you talking about?"

"His circuits are firing, Headphones." A sharp finger pointed at the corpse. "He's not dead. Or, he came back to life."
Posted Image"Akira's right, I can feel a pulse," Valerie spoke with her finger in the bloody mess, her voice washed with relief. A smile took over for the briefest moment, before being replaced by her characteristic sternness.

"Its weak, but its there," Valerie glanced towards Sophia.

"That's impossible... His soul was already gone-"
Posted Image"There's no time to be worry about that Saruwatari!" Masato suddenly shouted, rushing up beside Sophia and Valerie. His girth cast a shadow over the two, eclipsing the moon. After a short moment to look over the victim, Masato bent down, and with minimal effort, slung the boy over his shoulder.

"What do you think you're doing?!" Valerie shouted, surprised. "Help is already on its way!"

"I'm not taking any chances. I'll carry him there myself!" And with that declaration, Masato stormed off like a hurricane, the injured boy in tow. Even whilst carrying extra weight, the muscle head turned out to be surprisingly fast, disappearing around the corner in a matter of seconds.
Posted Image"You know, with how things are in this town, wouldn't it have been better to not make the hospital such an hassle to get to? Or have more than just one? Surely, people get rushed into the ER almost hourly."
Posted Image"Gah! Damn that idiot! Always getting such impulsive ideas-" Valerie shouted, stomping to her feet. But Masato was already long gone, his thunderous steps beating farther and farther. Turning, Valerie shot her agitated eyes at Akira and Ren.

"You two! Chase after him! Make sure he doesn't slam into a car or something!" Wasn't it usually the other way around?
Posted Image"Then what do you want us to do about this?" Ichinose Akira, spoke, lifting up her hand. Dangling on her fingers by a sleek handle, it was a black box, slight rectangular. Completely pristine, meticulously cared for, were it not for the dull hue of blood which stained its stainless black surface. And, perhaps, just the slightest bit familiar.

"...Where did you find that thing?" Valerie hesitated, unsure just how to react to Akira suddenly pulling a box out of nowhere.

"That boy was holding onto it like some precious thing, until Headband plucked him off," Akira spoke matter-of-factly. "I wonder what could be inside...?~"

"Don't be so nosy. Just bring it along." Whatever it was, it was probably important to the victim if he didn't want to let it go, even when upon death's door. Now that he might recover, Valerie didn't need someone accusing them of thievery.

"As you will it, Princess~" Akira laughed jokingly, before sprinting off. Unlike Masato, her steps were near silent, evading every drop of blood on her exit. And, to Sophia's surprise, she would see not a single stain on her.
Posted ImageValerie frowned. Though Akira's whimsical demeanor was refreshing, sometimes she wished that she would take things just a bit more seriously. Especially with a lineage like her's...

Valerie turned to the only one left of their little gang; Ren. "Why are you just standing there? Shouldn't you go help Akira?" Valerie crossed her arms, her voice nonhostile, yet strict.
Posted ImageBut Ren only stood there and stared. Not at Valerie, someone who he knew and would consider a friend. But at the anomaly before him; the stranger that was accompanying her. At Sophia. The one who had just brought back the dead.

Ren didn't say anything, he just continued to look on with those suspicious, hard, cold eyes.

"Ren-"

"Yeah. I understand." Finally, the brunette turned away, before too making his way out of the alley. But not once, from the time Valerie spoke till the time he turned, did Ren's eyes leave the Valkyrie.

And now, there were just two. Silence filled the alleyway, as their voices were only replaced by the sounds of far off urban life and their breaths. The occasional cry and beeping horn could also be heard, as the others tried to bring that boy to the hospital. Masato, with the boy over his shoulder. Akira, deftly behind him, that black box in hand. And Ren, keeping silent vigil at the back. These four, they seemed incredibly close, like friends that had been together for years. But yet, the image of Valerie lying to Masato would crop up. Despite how close they were, they were still oddly distant.

Posted Image"Sorry about that," Valerie finally spoke, breaking the silence. "Ren doesn't have the most elegant head on his shoulders." Valerie sighed, a tired and annoyed sound. She was having trouble putting her thoughts into words. But what could she say to Sophia? Though they weren't enemies, they weren't close either. After all, they had only met earlier tonight

"But not just Ren. For everything. Everything that had happened..." What else could she say? Though Valier wouldn't say she was happy to go into that world, she could at least say that she did so of her own accord. Sophia was dragged into there, against her knowledge and will, and forced to fight battles she knew nothing about.

"But, like you said, it looks like my duty isn't over yet," Valerie muttered, her voice tinged with displeasure. The Reaper girl took a few steps forward, before turning an eye to Sophia.

"How about you?"

She could just turn around and leave, discarding everything that happened as a dream and return to her "not-so-normal" high school life at Hyakuji. Back to her dorm, go to sleep, and start a new day, leaving all these events as a faint memory? That hooded man, Adour, that mysterious mage with the heterochromatic eyes, the soul consumed by Lorelei, Marian? What did they seek? And what about Edda? After what happened to her world, would she just let things stand? And what about Rayne, the demented girl chained in the ivory tower? Larue, Caleb, that hunter, Valerie, Masato, Akira, Ren: how did they all get pulled into this? Like puppets taunt with strings, they all danced on a stage. But for who? For what?

All these questioned were still unanswered; still disconnected. If Sophia sought to connect them, to see the whole picture, she wouldn't be able to just walk away. However, if she were to turn her back, all these dots would fade, like forgotten stars, becoming an untold story.

What was the right thing to do? Would she push forward into this night?

The girl waited for Sophia to speak, her eyes nonjudgmental.

“It’s alright. They don’t really seem like bad people… I think.” As odd as this group of people was, they were alright in Sophia’s books, especially the one called Masato. The headband sporting man had been quick to help the not-quite-dead victim, which made her more inclined to trust him. Ren however… well, liking everyone was nigh impossible anyways, she wasn’t too concerned.

The Valkyrie looked off towards the direction where the group had disappeared to as Val asked her question, giving a soft laugh. “I don’t know Val, what am I supposed to do?” She returned her attention to the Reaper. “Am I supposed to just forget everything that happened? Pretend it was a dream? I can’t do that, it concerns Evray, my friend.”

Then was she asking to join them in their quest? “If your goals involve helping him I will lend my aid. So tell me, Reaper.” Sophia regressed to calling Val by that name, showing her that she didn’t forget what she was. “What exactly are you and your ragtag band trying to accomplish here?”

Posted Image"No one else should be able to tell what you want better than yourself."

"But, I'm glad to hear you say that,"
Valerie remarked simply, a small smile forming. Nodding once, the girl then proceeded to walk slowly out of the alleyway, motioning for Sophia to follow. She took a brief moment to dust herself off and fix her hair, but otherwise look like she was just attacked by raccoons. But, that didn't seem to bother Valerie too much, she still walked ahead with a sureness and confidence quite rare for someone of her stature.

As the two stepped onto the street, they could be thankful that no one was near. Seeing two school-aged girls step out of a bloody alleyway was bound to cause trouble.

"You know, you and I are kind of similar. I can't let this stand either," Valerie spoke casually, as she led the Valkyrie down the street. She then abruptly stopped, her eyes set forward, as if in a daze. Something was troubling the young girl's mind, a predicament of sorts.

Posted Image"My 'ragtag band'?" Valerie asked, solemn. She stopped her pace, pondering the question posed by Sophia. Or, rather, deciding whether or not to trust her. Several moments passed.

"Nothing," Valerie replied simply. "They're just trying to help a dying boy they found on the street. Valeire crossed her arms, pouting slightly. That was her tell that she was serious.

"I don't think you've noticed, but Masato, Akira, and even Ren, they have no idea of what happened in that place. They weren't there, and I have no intention of telling them." So, they weren't some sort of organization or mercenary group. They were just a bunch of friends, that help and support each other.

"They don't know about Adour, Cerul or any of that. Also..." Valerie sighed in regret. "They have no idea who I am, or what I am capable of. To them, I am just a middle school transfer student. And I would like to keep it that way."
Posted ImageValerie glanced downwards.

"Just an ordinary middle school transfer student..." she muttered sadly. It should be evident by now, but despite her professionalism and in control demeanor, Valerie was still just a kid. She was even younger than Sophia.
Posted Image"I-in anycase, we should get going," Violet shook herself out of her daze, realizing that she might've sounded like a crazy person. Again, Valerie started her pace down the street, the slightest form of urgrency in her steps.

"We should go to the hospital. You probably have questions for him, right?" Valerie smiled, before breaking off into a sprint.

"Without me watching them, who knows what trouble those idiots would get into?!"

“… Is that so? Well… I’ll believe you then.” It was hard for Sophia to just accept that they’re not trying to accomplish anything in particular, especially after what she had experienced with Val in the other world. If anything her reluctance to tell her own friends made it even more suspicious, but she had proven to be her ally. “I guess there are always some things we don’t want people to know. If you don’t want to tell me I guess I can’t force you to.”

The Valkyrie nodded her agreement to keep the truth from her friends. “Very well then, transfer student, I’ll keep your secret. But I do want a proper explanation when you’re able, that shouldn’t be too much to ask, right?” She smiled at the girl and began running after her, catching up a short distance later. “What should we tell your friends if they ask how we met? Should we say we met during a fantastical adventure in another realm?” She was joking of course, but this would be a problem they’ll have to deal with sooner or later.

Posted Image"They won't. They trust me enough," she admitted a bit sadly. And perhaps that is why she found it so hard.

Valerie smiled softly, but otherwise made no clear answer to Sophia's words.. She didn't want to make any promises, even to Sophia, that she wasn't sure she could keep. Maybe one day she could tell Masato, Yoshino, Ren and even Akira about herself, her true self. When that time comes, she would probably tell Sophia too. However, that time wasn't now.

It wasn't tonight.

A little later, Sophia would find herself at the only public hospital in Hyakuji, situated in its own little area so that people would have a hard time getting there in times of need. Or, at least that was definitively what it would've felt like if one just had to sprint all the way from the downtown core to here.

However, she would be there alone. Though Valerie had arrived on location with her, circumstances had needed her elsewhere. It went something like this:
flashback

And that was, more or less, how it happened. Sophia would find herself on the seventh floor, seated at the waiting room. The doctor hadn't finished his/her assessment of the victim, so Sophia was forced to wait out. Thankfully, the police weren't here either, as they were probably busy dealing with that "back alley alliance". And that meant that Sophia was alone, upon the waiting area of the seventh floor.

Actually, alone.

Not a single other person was here. No family members, waiting alongside the room. No idle patients, wandering about hooked up to their I.V. Not even a single nurse could be seen. The only sounds came from the T.V., implanted into the far wall of the lobby. It was a program, in which people are brought in and do comedic challenges in attempts to win a prize. A game show, including everything from the outrageous comments and fake crowd sounds. From what she could gather, contestants were organized into teams, each given a tag, with the objective being to take the tags of the opposing team. The camera, at the moment, happened to be following some blonde, foreign looking man, as he chased what could only be assumed as the member of the other team. Though he was chasing, his exaggerated movement and expression also made it clear that he was trying to entertain the audience behind the camera also. A good actor. He turned to the camera, uttering something quickly before being met by that recorded laughter. It was, indeed, very comedic, but Sophia might feel that it was a bit out of place here.

Something felt off. Very off.

And soon, Sophia would figure out why.

The man turned, and smiled.

Posted Image
"Why, hello there angel. You're too kind, coming all the way here for a visit!"

The same recorded laughter. Suddenly, the room seemed to flip itself, spinning wildly. The T.V. began to swivel, oscillating larger and larger, the smile marking itself into her mind. Then, like an outstretched elastic, it all snapped back into place. The room righted itself, and the T.V. returned to its perch. The man on screen continued to be chase. With one key difference.

Posted Image"Hello, hello, Sophia. Do you remember me?" the man opened his arms, like a magician after before performing a trick to show that he held nothing up his sleeves. He took a step forward.

"Its me. Adour."

As if the introduction was at all necessary.

The man laughed heartily, as if he had just relayed a joke.

"By the way, I saw you hitting it off with that Reaper girl," Adour smiled, taking a seat beside Sophia. He was either really confident in his position or just wanted to make the girl as uncomfortable as possible. "What do you think? Her hearts in the right place, but personally, I think she's a bit too stubborn. Not flexible enough, if you know what I mean." Adour reach up his hands, as if stretching, before placing them both behind his head.

"Though lying is never a good thing, honesty is the best policy. Wouldn't you agree, Sophia?"

“I was wondering when you were going to show yourself Adour.” Sophia didn’t bother to face the man as he showed up in the waiting room. The sudden change in atmosphere unnerved her a bit, but she wasn’t about to let it show in front of this lowlife. “And what do you want? Trying to cause more trouble? Or perhaps sow more distrust?”

The latter, so it would seem. While Adour definitely knew Val better, that didn’t mean she was going to believe him over someone that had actively helped her. “I’ll agree with you that lying is hardly a good thing, I must remind you that neither is manipulating people to achieve your own ends. As I recall you’re quite adept at deception, so you’ll forgive me if I’m a bit wary of what you say.”

The Valkyrie finally turned to meet him face to face, her eyes were calm but held an icy edge. “Though seeing you here reminds me, what are you going to do now? You seemed to have gotten something quite interesting from Cerul, a set of notes was it? I seriously doubt they’re notes for some school exam, so what do you intend to do with them?”

Posted Image"Oh? Were you expecting me?" Adour mused, rolling his eyes. "I'm flattered! I would've thought that you want purge all that time we spent together as soon as possible!" Adour shrugged, as if to say, "But there's nothing I can do about that!" Instead, he leaned back, his eyes sent up to the ceiling.
Posted Image"Aren't those the same thing? A conjunction would've been much more suitable than a disjunction." He knew that wasn't the point of Sophia's statement, but it would seem even in this world, Adour strives to be as irate as possible.

Adour let out a long sigh.

"Your words hurt me, Sophia. When will you realize that I have nothing but your best interest at heart?" Though he says that, Adour was about as trustworthy as a car salesman. A car salesman that can crawl through T.V. screens and smiles like a maniac.
Posted Image"Though, believe it or not, the reason I'm here has nothing to do with you," Adour remarked, a bit of sadness in his voice. As Sophia mentioned the name Cerul, she was awarded with a flickering of Adour's eyes. Well, at least that got his attention. Somewhat.

"Why? Are you interested?" Adour asked, whimsically. Then, out of nowhere, he burst out laughing. "Well, I would give it to you, seeing how we're friends and all~ I probably wouldn't be able to figure them out anyways." Adour shrugged, as if it had nothing to do with him.

"You see, Sophia, magecraft is a very fickle art; you either have it, or you don't. Even if you have the best teacher, it'll amount to nothing if you are trash. Because of this, most well-known magi descend from families that have bred the potential for thaumaturge for decades." The mysterious man went onto an odd lecture, before catching himself.
Posted Image"But I'm getting off topic," Adour snarked, somewhat agitated. It seems like he had grown bored of their direction of discourse.

"You are right, they aren't 'notes for a school exam'," the blonde confirmed. "These notes-" the robed man brought forth his hand. Concentrating for a brief moment, and with some small amount of ambient mana, the golden sigil appeared once again, suspended a short distance above his palm.

"It details how Larue created that world. Everything from the necessary components and procedure to the the problems he encountered. Thankfully, he burned all his notes before incinerating himself, making this the only reference left. Pretty valuable, right?"

Sophia did her best to hide the anger that was rising within her when Adour revealed what Cerul gave him. The ability to create whole worlds… power like that was not something that should be in the hands of the likes of Adour. “I see… It is very valuable indeed.” Her voice was calm, but inwardly she was seething. Maybe she could steal it away from him before he did anything with it…

“I’ll ask again, what do you intend on doing with them? Create another world and drag some more people in there to toy with them? Or are you going to tell me that it’s for some social experiment?” She scoffed as she stood, readying herself for what may come. “I don’t suppose I’ll get an invitation to visit?”

Posted Image"Don't worry yourself, I can't even read it," Adour laughed. Clenching his fist, the symbol disappeared again, as the robed man returned his hand behind his head.

"It is a gift, I guess you could say for a friend of mine," Adour winked. Believe it or not, this man actually has people who would call him a "friend". Or, he was using the term much too liberally.

"As for what he would do with it, I have no idea." Adour shrugged innocently as Sophia stood. The boy remained seated, eyes closed and irritatingly composed.
Posted Image"But its bound to be interesting."

Adour laughed heartily. If there was anyone else upon this floor, they would've stared at the man with a mixture of disdain, fear and disgust; like he was some sort of psychopath. Which, as Sophia may know, might not be too far from the truth.

Adour's eyes flashed to Sophia, locking onto her's.

"Don't worry, you'll be the first to know. You're a vip, after all~"
