So he never actually gave an answer to her request earlier, did he?

Actually he kinda did. He just told her to do whatever she wants.

He didn't think she was actually serious about it though, which is why he was... kind of just standing there rooted on the spot in front of his own room at the fourth floor, staring at the young red-headed woman and wondering why the hell is she not on her own female-designated floor. "You know it's against the rules for you to be on this floor after sundown..." He grumbled at her, refusing to turn the doorknob even though he already has his hand on it.

"That only matters if someone knows about it and intends to enforce it." she said, waving it off dismissively

He'd agreed to it, and she'd already taken the trouble to ask for herself. Though not normally one to get involved, Misae was the sort that, once she was, was hard to convince to get uninvolved afterward.

For her, all other things were largely secondary at that point. Rules and guidelines were things you didn't just ignore for no reason, but she didn't feel beholden to them enough to not disregard them she thought it would save trouble for everyone involved.

"Unless you've changed your mind about it, this would be the best place wouldn't it?"

Guh... she is very serious about it. And from her wordings it doesn't seem like she'll let him off just because he changes his mind.

A knock on the door with his head and a sigh of exasperation before he opened the door.

Watch it, it opens outward.

It was a fairly small room. Compared to the other rooms in the same building at least, though he never really complained about it much. It has a little dinky feel to it, surprisingly neat though it doesn't seem like he has that much stuff in the first place. A double-decker bed, though it seems like he's the only user of it and upon closer inspection he had apparently stolen the top matress for his own use at the bottom. There was a study desk opposite the entrance, just underneath a window with a small, yet noticeable crack on it. Text books and homeworks with a handful of stationeries lay scattered on the desk next to a small laptop and a fedora. Next to it at the corner is a tiny cabinet with a small CRT television, surprisingly enough with one of Kues Corp's gaming console plugged to it.

Then there's a door to the kitchen, and another to the bathroom.

Speaking of the kitchen, "Oh jeez, finally you're back!" A girl's voice called out from the kitchen that actually made him jump in surprise. Next moment the head of a short girl with silvery hair popped out from the corner, "I just had the chicken thawed but I think we're out of panko, do you wa-"

She went silent at the sight of Seth and Misae. But mostly Misae.

"I see. I understand." she nodded, wiping off her boots before stepping inside.

Though part Japanese and reasonably fluent, she was still a westerner at heart. Shoes weren't something you took off inside someone's home. At least, not the kind that was strapped to her legs with several feet of bootlace.

"Please don't mind my being here, I'm not planning on interrupting anything you two might have here." she declared as she walked up to the middle, turning about as if to examine it. "Mmmm... it's surpisingly neat honestly. I'd have thought a young man's room might have been messier, but it's rather nicely kept."

Sadly her compliments fell on deaf ears, with the girl still ogling at the young woman in surprise and Seth was... on the fence of saying anything, partly wanting to tell her off for staring and partly somewhat apprehensive with the girl's response since... dammit, didn't he tell her he wouldn't be eating home today?

...He did, right?

He doesn't like that grin on her face. "Guhehehe~ Nee, who is she~?" The silver haired girl who was also wearing an apron over a somewhat oversized pajama scooted over excitedly towards him, giving the young man a painful nudge on his side. "It's been a while since you've brought someone home, let alone a pretty girl~"

She's apparently not counting herself, though that was the least of their worries. "Hey, look, it's not what you-" He tried to explain the situation to the girl even though he had no idea what to really use as an excuse. Regardless however, the silver haired girl was having none of that, giving the young man a painful looking punch in the guts before hopping merrily to the exit. "Aaah, what a bad timing, I need to go out and get some more panko~ Sorry I can't entertain you but please, make yourself at home~"

And she's gone, leaving Misae with Seth who is having a mild case of tummy ache. "...D-don't mind her... she's just..."

He couldn't figure out what Youma is.

"Obviously jealous of people you bring in. As I said, I do understand your hesitation now." she told him, nodding in understanding "Your culture calls them tsundere, doesn't it?"

Flipping her hair, she casually took a seat on the bed and crossed her legs, a faint, sly smile on her face. Whether she meant she understood in a way that was correct was a matter up for contention for those who didn't know her, but it was obvious she at least grasped enough of it to annoy Seth.

"Well it's good she's left for now anyway. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but it's generally better for others not to be around when you connect, don't you think?" she asked him

It was probably safer if he had just kept his mouth shut, especially on the topic of the half-phantom. Not that the next topic of discussion was any better. "Geh- are you kidding me..." The young man grumbled under his breath, doing his best to avoid her eyes. Whatever thoughts that had momentarily left his mind earlier came back in a rush... and it's really not helping his case. "...Agh, just get it over with already, whatever you were planning!"

And then he scooted off to the bathroom and slammed the door shut just to be in a different room from her.

She's just messing with him... that has got to be it, it can't be anything else...

"Well... I can't exactly finish what I'm planning while you're in there." she explained calmly "Physical contact is obviously a requirement."

She did say it involved connecting to him afterall. Establishing a link through the bathroom might have been possible, but the logistics involved made the whole affair far more bothersome than was worth the trouble. If he didn't want it, he really should have just said so to begin with.

"If you've changed your mind, it's easier to simply say so. It's intended to be an offer, not a imposition, but it does require at least some cooperation on your part."

...Buh. She's right isn't she, he really could just say no if he really doesn't want to...

Whatever is making him so agitated and averse, he wonders himself. I mean, come on, sure she apparently has talent in riling people up, but... wait, no buts. That's it, that's exactly it. She just likes to rile people up, even she has to have at least some common sense.

...A bit demeaning and he didn't mean it that way.

"...Give me a moment," He said loudly.

It's nothing, it's probably nothing...

The next time the door opened, Seth was there... looking like he had just... taken a shower... for some reason...?

...Nope, yeah that's definitely the smell of someone who just took a shower, all damp and fresh and stuff. It hasn't been more than ten minutes, not that he could tell but he made sure to be quick about it.

For someone with nothing to do, ten minutes would feel like forever though. He should probably apologize for that. "Ah... right, I was getting ready..." For what, he has no idea because he cannot read the young woman's mind. In a clean set of white shirt and black pants, the young man draped the towel he had been using to dry his hair as he made his way towards the study desk, pulled out the chair and sat himself on it. In a very straight-backed and rigid posture.

His hands on his knees. "Not changing my mind," He said, sounding quite forced but pretty determined. "I said you're free to do whatever you want, and a man doesn't go back on his words,"

...Is this really the time...?

He's keeping his eyes closed too.

"Alright. This should be easier if you relax." she said, her voice shifting from the mildly teasing tone to that of an immaculate professional

She tapped the back of the base of his skull with her gloved hands, connecting a thin wire between the young man's brain and her fingertips. A moment later, the a pulse of magical energy shot through to confirm the link as she closed her eyes and put herself in the trance required for this song.

A soft sound.

The soft music accompanied an ethereal voice.

Was it hers or someone else's? She seemed to mouth the words, but they seemed to come from the air itself, accompanied by the phantasmal ensemble.

This was the most basic sort of magic for which ethelite was designed for - the synchronisation of 2 beings to connect their soulspace and allow 'diving' into the mind of the other. Originally meant to diagnose and correct spiritual bodies, it became both the ultimate intimacy and taboo within the organisation because of it's nature.

...

Scanning of mental structures. Sorting of information. Reconstruction of the soulspace through the mental and spiritual link. The process of syncing took time on her part, as Misae carefully began the dive...

There was a light, nigh unnoticeable prickly feeling behind his head. Followed next by the sound of... her singing? Was it even the young woman herself, or someone else?

What an odd song. It felt somewhat otherworldly, sung in a language completely alien and incomprehensible to him.

Even with his eyes closed, he was seeing rapid flashes of images... A stream of scenes going through his consciousness, some he recognized as... memories, recollection of his own experiences... Some more dull, some more prominent than others... and some he doesn't at all recognize.

He was in one of the room of a luxurious high-rise apartment, getting ready with his sister to go to school. There was no one else there.

The image changed. The same room. The same people. A different situation. He had just told her he would be moving out to Tokyo. She looked surprised, if not disbelieving.

The scenery changed entirely this time. He was standing at the front gate of Hyakuji High.

He was in a small, dingy looking office. The one ceiling fan turned slowly. In the room with him was a man, Jameson, wearing a fedora and an eye patch, another, bored looking man, Oliver.

He was sitting backwards on a chair, looking somewhat peaceful as he listened to Chetri playing a song on a piano in the WDA basement.

A mountain range covered in snow. In front of him was the half-phantom Youma, holding a sword at him with a manic grin on her face. She darted forward in a flash, the blade aimed right at him-!

From then on, the streaming memories were all... seemingly broken. It was hard, though not outright impossible to tell what was happening from that point on.

He had met Aki for the first time in years. The initial joy turned to murderous rage when he soon found out that she was no more than a mere illusion made by someone who-... was unidentified. There were statics and black voids where events should have happened, much more so than the rest.

He was standing before the Demon God of Wind, Pazuzu. He had just offered a deal to the Demon God, in exchange for Jonny's freedom. All he needed was just his name.

"MY NAME IS SETH RYOUGA!!!"

There was a thunderous, deafening sound of thousands of chains being locked into place.

...The rest is history- "Having fun?"

...Who?

"Don't be distracted. Relax. Focus on the piece. Tune out the distractions."

It wasn't quite like hearing her. Her mouth was singing the words of the song. Rather, it was like hearing loose thoughts in his head, only they weren't his thoughts.

Sorting through someone's head was hard. Unlike a computer system, the human mind worked by associations. You tag memories and thoughts and group them together not linearly, but the way they connected to other ones. Connect the piece to the other time. Connect that to players, and from then to other memories and sort them.

Indexing and working on this memory would be bothersome, but-

Having fun?

...

Another voice? Not a person - she'd be able to feel that. But something else in there. What it was however, was not an immediate concern. Instead...

"Just working. Are you going to get in the way?"

"Not really, no. Unless you're up to some kind of mischief," The voice replied as the garbled up scenes continue to pass. The voice would be indistinguishable from Seth's own, if there could even be one in raw consciousness. "I'm just surprised because he doesn't get much visitors coming in here,"

Not that anyone should have people visiting their brain in the first place anyway.

Piece?

What had they been talking about that she wanted to see...

...Oh. Chetri. And she was playing a piano.

Any other images disappeared quite quickly when there is something to focus on. In the end, they were back to the basement of the WDA, with the girl only just ending the piece she had been playing, before asking Seth of how it was.

"Oh yeah, I remember him asking her out on a date. Somehow," The foreign voice came again. "I don't think they ever went though,"
