"... Cavoli. Are all the schools in Japan like this or is it just this one that's special?" His old high school in Italy was nothing like this. It wasn't bad, by any means, but it was still... Well, a school. Hyakuji looked like the private estate of some foreign dignitary, or one of the Embassies in Rome. Except, bigger and more luxurious! Who paid for all of this? And most importantly, how the hell was he supposed to get around.

"I should have brought a map..." Arata murmured to himself, looking around, seemingly lost. "Okay, the school building proper should be... Uuuuuhm..." Surely, they must have put up some signs to get around... Right?

School was starting to lag a bit now that spring was coming around the corner. There wasn't much to do but go to class and then go to work. Life was not what Samuel expected it to be. Than again he had the mind of sociopath and a machine thanks the work of his parents. He was a bit messed up and a bit new to the scene of social life.

He was sitting in a tree writing something down when he looked over his notepad to see someone, interesting, appear on the grounds. People seemed to be popping up all over the place and his last few attempts to meet people failed miserably. This could be his chance to try a new strategy he was establishing for meeting new people. He couldn't be cold hearted or distant on this one. In fact eyeing the new boy made him question his own motives. He was a heartless manipulater, could he really pull this off? No sense in judging the situation he just had to jump down and greet him. Besides, the poor guy seemed lost.

Holding the notebook in one hand and the pen he was using stuck in his mouth Samuel jumped down. Though he underestimated the distance from his spot to the ground and landed with a grunt on his legs. A sharp pain filled his knee but he stood up and rubbed the spot. Now he would be limping for the rest of the day, which would cause him to stick out. So far the plan was going poorly. He looked up at the strange boy and pulled the pin out of his mouth. Waving over at him he shouted,

"Hey you, are you lost?" he then limped his way over to him. Hopefully he wasn't going to embarrass himself further and hopefully the kid didn't see him leap out of the tree with as much grace as a watermelon had. Once he was standing close to him Samuel held out a hand, not the one he took his pen out of his mouth with.

"Hi there, I'm Samuel. Are you new here?"

No signs at all? For such a big place? He didn't know who projected it, but it was crazy. What, were student supposed to magically always know how to get anywhere even on their first day? How- Sweet salvation! A voice, asking himself if he was lost! He turned around-He stopped. "... What happened to your leg?"

He couldn't help but notice the limp. Was he really the one who needed the most help there? He continued, extending his hand for Arata to shake. He looked at it, hesitant but then decided to shake it. Le buone maniere prima di tutto. "Nice to meet you. I'm Arata. Carpaccio Arata. And yes, I'm lost... But seriously, what happened to your leg? That's a pretty bad limp."

This kid was suttle. Should he point out the characteristically flawed impairments of this boys teenage appearance too? No he had to control himself he had to be nice. It was just, the kid was leaving himself open to wounds. How was he not supposed to be floundered about like a fish.

Samuel looked down at his leg and kind of chuckled. "Oh this? Well, I jumped off that tree after seeing you. I miscalculated the height of the tree and the amount of pressure my legs could have taken by that leap. So currently it is sore, but thankfully there was no breakage. I think."

Bringing a hand down to his leg he rubbed the knee a bit. It was sore enough to cause him to flinch but not that painful. He could handle it if he didn't put too much pressure on it. He looked up at the new kid and smiled. Maybe this kid had a healing gift? That could be useful in tough times though he wasn't really one to ask for help. Again holding out his hand he repeated his first command, "Shake? I'm not going to bite, unless you provoke me that is."

"Uhm, okay. I will remember it." Arata answered, a bit weirded out by the whole situation, but still appreciative. He took the hand and shook firmly. Again, a bit out of place in Japan, as far as handshake goes, but that was how he was brought up. Mid-shake, though, he realized something. 'Did this guy just say that he jumped down from a three?!'

Samuel eyed the individual before him. So far it appeared as if the confrontation was its usual slow rate of introductions. The boy before him was strange, even his handshake was a bit off. The heartless boy rationalized then that the stranger before him must be someone in hiding. Only someone trying to keep himself awkward would let himself be so, weird, right?

Before he asked anything else he really needed to do something about his knee. It wasn't like him to show weakness but it was really starting to hurt. A quick solution to his problem was getting off of it.

"Excuse me a second." he told the other boy after ripping his hand back from the shake, holding up a finger for a few moments to himself. Slowly he sat himself down, legs out in front of him, and the pain subsided. It was still pulsing in agony, as if any movement might agitate it again. With half closed eyes hidden behind his goggles Samuel looked up again at the new kid.

"So where is it you are headed to? Unless you are a visitor than I might be able to help you somewhere." he lifted his goggles up and onto his head. His red eyes just stared at Arata, nothing filling his mind.

“Huh, of course.” Arata nodded, releasing his new acquaintance’s hand, still very stranged out by the fact that he had, indeed, jumped out of a three. It’d make sense if he had injured himself, then. He had probably landed wrong on his feet… Still, the question remained of how he had climbed to the top of it to begin with, and why. He couldn’t really think of a valid reason for anyone to climb a tree… But not any valid reason not to climb one either. It was one of those half-empty half-full things, he guessed. Maybe the sight was pretty from-He just sat on the ground.

He couldn’t remain standing any more. Did he really bust his leg that bad? Where was he going, he asked. Well, there really was just one answer he could give right now. “… I was wondering where the infirmary was.”

Samuel took in the question that he was just asked. He had been around the school a lot by himself. There weren't really many people interested in hanging out with a cold, calculated, and straight forward guy like he was around here so he had little friends. So far he was seeming to be able to process the situation clearly and without error. His mind was far from trying to understand the reasons this boy didn't have a map or anyone to greet him besides himself.

"The infirmary." he had to think on that one. Had he ever been to the hospital on school grounds? In fact it wasn't very clear that there was one. Scratching his head he looked up at Arata and shrugged. "Sorry I don't think this school even has one." That would be one interesting and helpful thing around here though. Maybe the school did have one but it was one of those places that seemed to vanish and reappear only when needed.

There was a hospital outside of school, in town. In fact he'd been there before, for a broken and beaten body caused by a loss of control on his part. It wasn't something he was ever going to bring back up. He realised he was still holding his notebook and quickly hid it under his shirt. No one was ever allowed to know what he had there, no one.

"You're in luck though, there happens to be one in town. Why do you need an infirmary? Are you feeling ill?" his voice was methodical with very little emotion. He really needed to work on sympathizing with others.

"... No, I'm okay. I actually wanted to bring you there. And I thought it would be a good place to start exploring the school. It's my first day, you know?" 'A Japanese school this size without an infirmary?' It wasn't customary for italian schools -he couldn't remember there being an infirmary in any of the schools he had gone to, growing up- but he thought it'd be for Japanese ones. He shrugged his shoulders and knelt to eye level with his newest acquaintance. "How far is the one in town?"

Someone, actually wanted to help him? Had he died and gone to hell! What kind of person stopped to help themselves in this world, certainly not any that Samuel had met so far. Each person was usually up to only helping themselves. That was how he was raised and that was how he saw the world.

He was taken back a bit by the sudden feeling of something stirring in his chest. There had to be some other reason behind this stranger's actions, some personal goal. It was tough to do things for no reason for him so having another actually lend a hand for pity's sake was just completely out of the normal routine for him. This falling out of the tree may have been his ticket for finding someone to help him find his heart. It was clear the gesture was genuine, but was there a hidden motive that was the hidden question.

"The hospital can't be more than a half hours drive from here. I thank you for the offer but I will alright. I just need to wrap this up and stay off of it for a day." he patted his knee, wincing a bit as he laid a bit too much pressure onto the wound. Samuel eyed the boy before him with curiosity. He would need a chance to consult his book to compare this person to those before him. It didn't matter though, he was caught in the gesture and would take it all so he could examine it later.

"Well, let me help you with that, then. Tell me where we need to go." He continues, offering the injured boy his hand. He couldn't even stand without feeling pain, how could he get to wherever his first aid supplies were? Arata couldn't understand if he was being stubborn of distrustful. It was the first time they ever met, but...

Go to? Samuel did not understand why he needed to go anywhere. There wasn't much to do at the moment and he had very little to do. His job wasn't open at the moment and his family seemed to never answer his phone calls when he attempted contact. The one thing he wanted to do was to make one friend here. One person who didn't cause him to crack and become mad with power.

"Oh I don't need to go anywhere. It is only what appears to be a sprain, too much pressure on one part of the body. All that is needed is to either work past it or rest." he smiled and held out a hand. Samuel gestured to help him get up so he could at least be around eye level with the Arata. "Besides, we are total strangers, why should you help me?"

It was a simple question but the answer would determine so much. Didn't it always work out that way though? The purpose of helping was to form a bond that grew, at least that's what he's been told. There could be a number of possibilities out there but really he wanted to force out only one outcome. That was his problem that he had yet to realize, he forced friendships upon people. He never thought about what it was to actually sympathize with another person.

Once Samuel was standing he would limp over to the school gate and just stare out to the street. It would take him slower than the average person to do get there but eventually he made it so he could lean off of his wounded knee and onto the other one. "We could visit the hospital if you are really worried about me. But I doubt they will do much for me, I have some knowledge of First Aid." his eyes shot, snake like, back towards Arata before he continued, "Do you always help strangers this quickly though?"

The boy was strange, and it wasn't only because of the red eyes or how nonchalant he was about his injury. Were all of the students of Hyakuji like this? Or was this Samuel a special case? 'We're complete strangers. Why should you help me?' 'Do you always help strangers this quickly?' "I don't really have a reason. I just want to... I feel like I have to." And to be fair, he never really thought about it. It was maybe only the third time he ever helped someone in his life, and it always just came naturally to him.

"It just comes natural to me... I mean, more than why should I help a stranger, the question is: why shouldn't I help a stranger?" He instinctively turned the reasoning on its head.

That seemed to satisfy Samuel. He nodded and just turned to look out on the street. Each car that passed by was a moment of silence between him and Arata. Whoever he was, the kid was entering a new place where children were merely adults in younger bodies, at least that is the conclusion that he, himself, had come to.

"You seem smart. So answer me your question, why shouldn't you help a stranger? I know the answer from my perspective but you aren't ready to hear it just yet."

While he let what he had just spoken sink in his hand rubbed his arm. It was strange, he felt as if he could open up to this boy. The new sensation wasn't very comfortable to him. In fact it was making him feel more vulnerable and open than he ever wanted to feel. Maybe this place was changing him for the better, maybe just maybe his parents did truly lie to him. That didn't matter though because he was going to win this battle of emotions and find out just why a stranger would help another.

Seemed like two could play that game, huh? Arata 'hmm'-ed and brought a hand to his chin. "... I got nothing." Then, he blinked, realizing what he had said. He smiled, then started laughing. "I got nothing! I have no idea why I shouldn't help a stranger in need of my help!" He said, then scratched the back of his head. "Sorry. I guess my dad raised my this way... And maybe it's also a little bit of me."
