NICE DRIVE!
|
With a bright flash, the Fire Division group dispatched to raid the Ordo Dracul emerged to the target site. They seemed to be at the end of a rocky path that had been ascending some cliff. Behind them an expansive and foreboding forest stretched out as far as the eye could see. They were far from any civilization, that much was clear. What was far more imposing, however, was the sight before them. A seemingly cyclopean castle reached into the blackened clouds as if cursing the heavens. It seemed as if it might fall apart at any moment, yet its stability was without question. In the distance, the low rumble of thunder could be heard adding to the ominous setting before slowly a loud creak and the rumbling of chains started up. Though the rocky path they were on had come to an abrupt stop, it seemed the castle's drawbridge was now dropping to connect the path. As the main courtyard came into view beyond the castle's walls there appeared to be no sign of someone actively lowering said drawbridge. It was as if this imposing domain was inviting Arcadia in itself. ![]() "Heh, well then," Makoto spoke with a confident air to her voice, "That solves the first problem. It seems they're expecting us. That or they don't think our presence will have an impact on what they're up to." Nodding to the others, she began to lead the advance within. Illuminated only by the light of the full moon hanging dreadfully low in the sky, the area they were entering into seemed to grimly state the situation they were walking into. The courtyard held some bushes strewn about here and there and a few half-crumbled statues, but whatever life was once here had long since perished. The earthen pathway led straight up to the currently wide-open double doors that led into the main entrance hall of the castle. And once the group was fully across things took a drastic turn. With another loud creak, the drawbridge began to reel itself back up as the mechanisms for its turning moved on their own as if being worked by some phantasmal hand. Lightning struck in the distance giving just a bit more light momentarily as the ground throughout the courtyard began to rumble and turn. All at once hands began to shoot up from within the Earth. Hands rotted to varying degrees, some even flayed back to the point of bones, each pawing and pulling to pry forth from within the ground. Slowly, an army of undead was amassing from the courtyard on either side of the earthen path Fire Division had walked in on. They groaned, but did not utter a word; a mindless legion in service to those who now acted as the Lord of this castle. It was abundantly clear from the ever growing horde that it would take a very long time to merely fight them outright. "Let's keep moving," Makoto called off in frustration as she drew forth her cellphone, "We'll waste time fighting it out. We need to get a lead on Tsukasa. I SUMMON YOU, POWER!" Raising her voice, Makoto activated the Demon Summoning App and called forth one of the devils she kept stocked regularly for combat. ![]() With a silent nod of acknowledgement, the angelic creature began to fly alongside Makoto as she charged ahead; levering its spear towards anything of the zombies that strayed to close to try and keep their central path a bit more open. Things were only going to get worse from here... |

It had been far too long since Sophia stepped onto a battlefield. The sense of danger, the rushing adrenaline, and the feeling of destroying the heinous forces of evil, she missed it all. Sure there were times during her stay at Hyakuji where she had gotten into a scuffle or two, but those were nothing compared to the sheer ecstasy of battle. And now, standing before the castle that was the Ordo Dracul’s hideout, she was finally going to unleash all that pent up fury. “They are clearly taunting us, I say we show them what a mistake that is. Lead on Makoto.” All honorifics forgotten, the Valkyrie gripped her spear tightly in hand and fell in line behind their leader. Sure enough as soon as all the warriors of Fire Division were inside the trap was sprung and the legions of the damned spawned from the ground. Sophia’s eyes seemed to glow as the enemy came and a menacing grin crept onto her lips. “Small fry, all of them!” She didn’t even give them a chance to emerge from the ground before launching her attack, evening going as far as to grab the nearest undead arm and tearing its hapless owner out of the ground only to decapitate it with her spear. Several more fell before Makato’s call reminded her that they still had a job to do and the Valkyrie assumed a more defensive stance alongside the summoned angelic creature as they pushed forward. Hiro was top priority, so Sophia had to keep a level head for now. Besides, she could always have her fun later. |

They're inviting them in...? Coming from an enemy, taking that offer cannot be a good idea. It was a bit unfortunate, as he had to remind himself, that they were there for that very reason. The young man couldn't help but wonder, even as he noted the run-down state of this castle... ...Where is Hiro? The thought did not bode well with him. If he was here, shouldn't the vampires be more concerned about dealing with the mage more than inviting them in? He wasn't sure if they were supposed to think Hiro could single-handedly take on the whole organization of vampire by himself, but if they were this confident about letting them in... Thankfully he's sharing the same sentiment with their stand-in leader. Waste no time, there are important matters afoot. FLASH!!! A bright flash of white light as Hakurouken, the White-Tower Sword and Roukanken, the Watchtower Sword materialized in his hands, its ghastly silvery blade gleaming momentarily from the thunderclap. Without another word he stormed forward, tearing apart any inhumanly beings that stood between him and the heart of this castle! |

"Normally I'd have opted for a more stealthy entrance, but if they've already expected our arrival then chances are they'd be aware of any attempts to infiltrate their base," Lavender remarked as she approached the castle with the rest of the group, the structure being unquestionably sturdy despite its design pretty much defying the concepts of human engineering and architecture. "Might as well as accept their invitation then," the aeromancer commented sardonically as she crossed the drawbridge into the courtyard, where a "welcoming party" was already being readied. "Let's not waste too much time and energy here; we've got a long night ahead," Lavender mused as she led from the front alongside Makoto, and true to her word the aeromancer wasn't about to start using her powers just yet, instead relying on firearms and hand to hand combat to take out any zombie that happened to be in her path. The undead may not be able to feel any pain - but just because they don't feel the pain of ruined limb doesn't mean it isn't there; and where a headshot proved impossible, Lavender would aim to disable incoming undead with shots at the limbs, or carefully-aimed strikes to the neck vertebrae and knee or elbow joints. "Keep moving!" the aeromancer commanded as she delivered a kick to the kneecap of a zombie, an audible snap resounding from its ruined limb as the undead dropped onto one knee, leaving it open to a finishing strike in the form of a vicious elbow strike to the temple. "Acknowledged, moving on!" Selene replied as she followed the leaders with her summoned Valkyrie escorting her from the front, twin blades in hand poised to cut down any undead abomination that might stand in her way with a flurry of sweeping strikes. |

"Hmmph, didn't even get a straight answer from him. And Water Division had months to work on researching Death and it's weaknesses." Shad muttered under his breath as he teleported to the rocky path target site, semi-steel rod in his left hand, Excalibur in his right (as he received it a minute before he was sent to the site). Although he was pleased not everyone wanted to outright murder people who might be under a unknown mind control, he was displeased a certain 'angel' was focused on downright slaughter on enemies and allies alike. No doubt he'll have to use his soul weapon on her should she become a problem. "The drawbridge is new. Last time I was here, it was just a rope bridge with crumbling, rotten wood planks. Master liked to bounce up and down on it to test my reflexes...I think. Also, just noticed that the castle seems to not have any damage related to a long-range Dragon Slave, that's weird." He noted on what was up ahead walking with everyone, wondering why exactly the group was teleported so far from the castle. Was there a glitch with the system or something? Oh, right. "Hang on, gonna try to get in contact with him." <OI, HIRO-SENSEI! IT'S SHAD! FROM THE FIRE DIVISION! I'M NOT SURE IF YOU'RE DEAD OR UNDEAD OR JUST KNOCKED OUT, SO I'M YELLING SUPER LOUD TO GET YOUR ATTENTION! WE'RE APPROACHING THE CASTLE NOW, HOPEFULLY YOU DID NOT DO SOMETHING RECKLESS LIKE CHARGE HEAD-ON WITHOUT A PLAN OR THE ACTUAL HEIR TO THE WHIP! WE'RE GOING ACROSS THE DRAWBRIDGE NOW, AND...HUH, ZOMBIES. NOT THE ONES SAGI CAN SUMMON, BUT MOSTLY LOW TIER TYPES. ANYWAY, FEEL FREE TO CALL US BACK UNLESS YOU'RE TRAPPED IN ANOTHER DIMENSION AND BEING TORTURED FOR NO REASON. BYE!> He sent out a private Arcadian telepathic message, walking over the drawbridge and into the crowd of zombies, in which he began to hack away with Excalibur to completely slice them apart. "Okay, message sent. Hopefully he'll reply back with his location at the castle since it should be unlikely Ordo Dracul knows how to jam the frequency, lest we have a mole in Water Division or something like that. Should I activate my Soul Weapon on the zombies to keep their attention on me awhile the rest of you continue on? I should be able to outrun them quite easily." He said plainly to Lavender, beheading a rather bulky zombie in medieval, rusted armor and split the spine cleanly down the middle in two swift slices, then swirled around to slash a charging zombie awhile ducking to allow the upper half to go flying overhead and crash into a few others nearby. |

Appearing through the portal, Lucy wasted no time in summoning her magic to her. Almost immediately, the teen gained a pair of panda ears atop her head, and a little panda tail over the end of the human coccyx. An instant later, her skirt, a short and grey affair, vanished as a pair of mecha musume-like armoured legs formed around her own. Said armour, the teen's Land Striker was reminiscent of a tank, the track-like segments on the armour certainly lending to the image, and as anyone with an eye for the military would be able to tell, the Striker Unit held a striking visual resemblance to the M47 Patton tank of the US Military in the Korean War. An instant later, Lucy was holding the .50 Calibre M3 Browning of her F86 Sabre-based Air Striker, though unlike the nose-mounted guns of the jet fighter, the one in her hands had a pistol grip and trigger assembly. As the group entered the open courtyard, the Witch turned both left and right, watching their flanks. Though, as soon as she heard the drawbridge cranking up, she turned around to face the wooden structure. The sound of breaking earth and moving decayed flesh however, soon drew her eye. “Keep going! I'll keep the rear covered!” Firing bursts of non-elemental magic “bullets” at the zombies as the group moved, Lucy sent the low-damage shots aimed at heads and legs. Thankfully, the Land Striker hovered just above the ground, so she wasn't trying to walk backwards with the heavy system around her legs, and instead was reversing much like a vehicle. True to her word, the Witch would keep the rear covered as they advanced, pausing only long enough for anyone she was passing to get back ahead of her. |

This entire situation was getting to be more and more difficult by the minute. Again, he wasn't expecting an easy situation, but between the battle hungry folks, the incessant talking of some of these people, and the environment itself, this really didn't appear to be a situation where they'd get any real advantage. But there was a comment that did stick in Damon's head. Yes, they were expected, but there was no sign that Hiro had gone and appeared at all. Perhaps them being alerted was a sign in and of itself, but the lack of collateral damage, the lack of destruction...this seemed off. Something was wrong here. He didn't know what, but this entire situation was slowly becoming more curious. Augh and these cloud above. Damon needed clearer skies! He was barely going to get any light from the moon above! Calling forth his Soul Weapon, the elemental seal formed beneath his feet and expanded out. He began to try and call what little light would escape from the moon and pass through the clouds as his fellow Arcadians dealt with the undead directly, Damon charging forward along with them. Any undead who got to close would find a serious threat, as this sort of situation was perfect for his Soul Weapon. Any approach would end in impalement, the irony not going unnoticed in the shadowmancer. |

NICE DRIVE!

And thus their advance began into the heart of darkness. Shad's attempt to contact Hiro brought in return only static. It seemed wherever he might be, within this cyclopean construction, it in some way scrambled their means of communication. A realization almost as ominous as the location itself looked. Past the entrance doors, the group entered into a long straight hallway guided forward only by the frayed and ancient red carpet that raced along the floor. Towering double windows lined each side of the corridor and at the group's presence then began to rattle and start open and closing themselves with an unnaturally rhythmic motion. The stone floor beneath them began to crack and give as at random points all about the room more undead hands shot forth clawing their ways up. Could these be their predecessors? Those that had united once before to vanquish darkness from this world, but have failed just starting their adventure? "Lavender's right," Makoto called out still leading the charge with Power striking down any of the foul creatures that was unfortunate enough to move too close to her, "These things will just wear us down slowly. We need to save our strength for-" The hot-headed woman's words came to a halt suddenly as the group passed through an open double-door archway and into what seemed to be a welcoming chamber of sorts. Candelabra hung all about the walls illuminating the room with an inhuman light. As the final Arcadian entered, the doors slammed shut behind them sealing the room. Through several of the small cracked windows, a flash of lightning could be seen outside. Curiously, the red carpet continued but stopped at the far wall. Where one might have expected a door to be leading to the next room, there was instead a tall painting that seemed to depict the very castle they were in; however its image seemed to be of the building at the height of its former glory. Yes, myriad paintings hung all about the room. Each one depicting a gruesome scene or some horrific sight. It was equally disturbing and made one's skin crawl to take in the full sight. At the back end of the room, there also rested a balcony that seemed to signify some higher floor. However, like below, there was no door only more paintings. One of note, a long landscape piece, depicted what seemed to be an endless battlefield. Bodies upon bodies lay clumped up everywhere in the defeat of death. And surrounding them were massive pikes dug into the ground; upon each one impaled a single severed head. While the sight along was enough to be troubling, what followed was a much more dire turn of events. Slowly, the painting began to shimmer and become wavy as if it were some reflective like surface. Along with this phenomenon, a person began to step through as if it were some portal. ![]() A macabe figure and yet from his dress and the manner in which he seemed to carry himself as he paced forward to the edge of the balcony, there seemed to be something regal about him. Clutching the skull figure that adorned his cane, his piercing gaze the studied the group before he finally spoke up addressing them with a deep voice, "Ah! More guests. It would seem we are quite popular tonight." "I am Brauner," the noble-acting creature explained, "Current Lord of this Castle. You have come at an ill time for my compatriots and I. I would request of you, just once, to abandon your course and return from whence you came." It was a rather odd sentiment. Anyone with even the slightest bit of talent for the supernatural along the Arcadians could sense immense supernatural power flowing from Brauner. And to make the claim that he was Lord of the castle seemed to suggest he must be quite powerful. He could have easily launched into a full scale assault and yet, it seemed he was kindly asking them to give up and leave instead. |

“He’s stalling.” A low growl, almost primal in nature, came from Sophia as she spoke. “They know we have the upper hand, so they’re putting up this false front to weaken our resolve.” Frankly the only thing keeping her from outright charging Brauner is the paintings scattered across the room. The fiend himself had stepped out from one, so what’s to say there weren’t more of the monstrosities hiding behind them, waiting for them to make a rash move? “We should target the paintings.” Her voice was quiet this time, just loud enough to the other members of Fire Division to hear her. “It’d cut off his escape and prevent him from calling more reinforcements so we can kill the fiend.” She laughed coldly as she hefted her spear. “Even if I’m wrong we’d rid ourselves of a few eyesores.” Times like this she wished she wasn’t limited to be a melee fighter, it was too risky to just walk up to a painting and start slashing it up, but luckily she had allies who could fill that role for her. |

"Don't be so rash, stupid," Seth barked in annoyance at Sophia as he glanced about the room and the many paintings adorning the walls, somewhat unnerved by the gruesome taste of the owner of this castle. Though knowing their identity he probably shouldn't be too surprised. "The lord of the castle himself went out of his way to greet us, show him some respect," ...Which would seem odd considering they were supposed to be opposing them, but Seth doesn't seem to be kidding as the young man stepped forward, lowering his swords at his sides and preventing anyone else from charging straight ahead. The smile on his face was still quite wary however, and although he himself doesn't quite have the capability to sense any kind of supernatural presence, the vibe he could feel coming from the odd man drew cold sweat from him. Stand strong, the young man told himself, don't show your weakness. "You know very well that we can't just turn back now, not unless we're given a good enough reason to," He said to Brauner, managing to keep the grin on his face, albeit nervously. "I suppose we're interrupting a pretty darn important business for the lord of the castle himself to come and stop us in person, mind explaining just for a bit?" Before his question could be answered, if it would ever, he fired yet another one, though this time with less attempt to seem friendly. "Where is Hiro Tsukasa?" |

"Umm....Seth? That is not the lord of this castle. Unless of course he shaved his head, lost 100 pounds, lost all contact with the sun and became extremely attracted to purple, but I'm pretty sure he's not the true Dominic Hapsberg, royal Archduke and the true heir of the castle." Shad pointed out to Seth, walking right next to him awhile shaking off zombie blood and gore off of Excalibur and his pipe upon walking through the doors, allowing the filth to spill on the red carpet and on the walls, "There were two Archduchesses as well the last time I was here, but I don't see them with him either." True, he was just a little bit upset with the whole windows shutting and the zombie hands bursting through the floor on the way over, but he really disliked the fact this so-called 'lord' was trying to pull a fast one on them. Heck, he may have a imposing amount of mana, but Shad was already tapping directly into the castle's leyline, ready to fight if needed. "Anyway, 'Lord' Brauner, although you give us the option, your so-called compatriots have surrounded the manor's exits with flesh-hungry undead, and our current chief will not allow us to teleport until we have Hiro back in our custody. Which is weird considering your friends shouldn't even know who he is given our uniforms mask our identities. If you could just ask your friends to just hold off on this ritual for say, a few centuries since there's no real reason to do it since people aren't afraid of vampires anymore, and allow our leader to come with us unharmed as well as the three humans living here, we'll leave without any issue." He placed his hand over the right side of his glasses, the magic influx beginning to surround them. "Otherwise, you will be arrested and taken into custody by me in a way that will demean and humilate you. Please do not take the second choice." 'Just for the record, I'm saying that once I have my Soul Weapon activated, his attention will be fully on me and he'll be so battle crazed you can beat the snot out of him awhile I move in. But sure, Sophia, cut up paintings and the rug, or maybe a Candelabra or two over his head. He'll never notice since he'll be too busy trying to kill me.' Shad privately-spoke on the Arcadia feed to the others, ready to deploy Huginn the split second the 'Lord' went on the offensive or refused their request and make Brauner ready to tear him apart. "Were you not paying attention during the briefing? Space and time are distorted. What you know or think you know is completely irrelevant here." Damon said in response to Shad's unending talking. "For goodness sakes, are we just taking in every violent psychopath who wanders in these days...?" Damon said, shaking his head at the incredible aggression and subterfuge, especially at a moment for a talk of peace. "Seth's right, though. We're here for Hiro. We're here to handle things. Violence doesn't need to be the answer, but we can and will resort to it if the situation calls for it. Please, for your sakes and ours, let us not complicate things with needless fighting." |

"Then it seems at least some of you possess a noble heart," Brauner responded at Damon's words after hearing what each had to say that was willing to speak up, "I agree that there is no reason for us to senselessly fight among ourselves. I have walked this world for far longer than any of you. To defeat you in battle would take but a whim. And yet doing so would gain me nothing." "However," the vampire continued taking on a more sinister tone, "I'm afraid I cannot allow you to reach your friend quite yet. This grand night, is the one we have been waiting for some time. When the full moon reaches its peak in the night's sky, if a Candidate for the Dark Lord has been selected then our Master shall once more tread upon the Earth." "Long have I toiled to see this day," Brauner explained as he threw open his arms as if to suggest the grandeur of the Order's plans, "I will not allow mere children to stop us now. But I need not kill you. I shall only dirty my hands if you prove yourselves enough to warrant my action. The Master's Castle alone is more than enough of a threat for the likes of you." "Do you enjoy my paintings?" the pale being asked suddenly as if shifting gears all but confirming Sophia's suspicion that they held some important, "They dot the castle now in my hope that it might bring glory to our Dark Lord. Perhaps you might study upon them for awhile and come to appreciate my artwork!" With a turn to place his back towards the Arcadians, Brauner snapped his fingers and then began to walk forward. As his body met the large painting hanging behind where he had been standing on the balcony, it merely shimmered for a moment before he passed through as if stepping through the ripples of a lake. All about the room, each painting began to rattle on its hook violently before the surface of each one rippled as well and suddenly a shocking feat occurred. The paint itself upon each canvas began to reel itself free from the portrait. Each one forming into long crimson tendrils as if giant brushstrokes had been made in thin air. Like a serpentine abomination, the various bloody brushstrokes began to dart about the room rushing at the various Arcadians on the offensive. In a bid of desperation, the angelic Power grasped Makoto and lifted into the air hoping to weave about between the various and myriad tendrils hurtling about. However, ultimately, two landed their blow in a one-two combo. The first instantly destroying Power and the second, upon contacting with Makoto's body, caused a short flash of light before the woman vanished into thin air; seeming whisked away to parts unknown. For a split second, it seemed as if she were about to speak. To bark some last minute order to her companions, but against these seemingly unthinking foes there was no time granted for any parting message. |

“What did I just say!?” Sophia hissed angrily as Makoto disappeared, rolling aside to dodge a tendril and slashing at it with her spear blade. “Violence is the only answer to monsters like him!” With her eyes locked onto Brauner the Valkyrie leapt back to buy herself some breathing room, looking up at the spot where the vampire stood only to see he was no longer there. “Get back here you coward!” But of course there was no response, only more of the writhing tentacles. Sophia cursed as she slashed at another offending tendril and began looking for the nearest painting. Once that was done she fought her way to it, dodging and hacking anything in her way. Times like this her relatively small frame really came in handy, allowing her to reach her target with relative ease, and the Valkyrie started tearing at the gory painting with her weapon. |

Having not taken her eyes off of Brauner, Lucy levelled the M3 in her hands and kept the weapon's barrel pointed on the vampire for the entire "conversation". If he had made an offensive move, then the Witch would have opened fire with the magical construct. Of course, as Shad was running his mouth off, acting all high-and-mighty and "I-am-better-than-thou-so-do-as-I-say", the teenager was resisting the urge to face-palm big-time. "Hornswell, shut your mouth up... Before I shut it up for you. It is not Brauner who is at a disadvantage here, we are." Not taking her eyes from the vampire as she spoke, the green-brown haired girl stood as impassively as she could while keeping the magic-made equivalent of a .50 Calibre General-Purpose Machine-gun trained on her target. Of course, that didn't stop her from voicing her own opinion on the villain standing above them and his little motive rant. "You, are some piece of work, you coward. You talk of big things, of breaking the natural order of life to snatch the souls of the dead and restore them to life... But you think yourself above us?!? You may have the advantage right now, but your delusions will cause you to fall so far that when you are removed from that pedestal you stand yourself upon, you will find out just how small you really are compared to us. After all; Even David was able to slay Goliath." As Braun walked back into the portrait he had appeared from and tendril-monsters came from the many others, Lucy was quick to switch targets to the nearest of the brushstroke-like things. Blasting the first to come at her with a measured burst of non-elemental magic shots, the Witch swiftly opened up a barrier to deflect a second, the Magic Circle inscribed with Liberion Runes shuddered before fading away after the hit, though it had done its job. "If your soul-weapon really draws aggression onto yourself Hornswell, then I suggest you use it to lure those things after you so we can deal with them without having to try and evade or block attacks from a dozen directions at the same time!" Of course, that was a sensible suggestion, right? Shad was constantly harping on about how his Soul Weapon let him pull enemy attention, which meant that the other Arcadians could focus on the tentacle-things and destroy them without needing to watch for attacks by other tentacles at the same time. |
