In the following instant the toothpick suddenly grew, completely squashing Nalrusha's guts in an horrid sound of flesh exploding. Nalrusha's face deformed itself in a mask of sheer pain, but it didn't have air in its lungs to scream. The enlarged wooden object bursted out, corroded by a corrosive acid that ran inside the now exploded innards of the demonic monster. An explosion of gore and acid erupted out of the large hole carved by Shad's attack. The wooden tootpick fell on the ground, smoking, but the burst of acid, flesh and blood sprayed in every direction. Jen and Kell, not in the direct line of the corrosive stream, would only receive little more than a few drops directed toward them, but for the size mage, enlarging the tootpick could have been a very bad move. Acid flew in his direction, a cloud of corrosive droplets that would probably erode his clothes and severely burn his skin. Culsu too was in the trajectory of the stream, but the demon made no effort to instinctively teleport away after a gasp of surprise. The green haired demon disappeared and popped out in the hallway, on the opposite side of Nalrusha. With a final hiss, the demon fell on the ground lifeless, and, as soon as it did so, it began to melt in a black pool of dark water, that immediately began evaporating in a black, very stinky mist. "Culsu is horrified. That was quite the horrid Mazikin" floating very close to the black miasma emanating from the demon, she held her nose with a hand. "Culsu never saw anything like that before" Her eyes didn't hide the disgust she was feeling "Horrid, horrid" she repeated. An eery silence fell on the room, broken only by the sound of the acid corroding the ground and the blackening remains of the creature that called itself Nalrusha on the floor. |

Lashing out with her holy sap, Kell accurately knocked the droplets heading towards her out of the air. The wrestler backed off a few steps, pushing Jen with her so they were both safely out of the way of the acid spray. Damn, it wasn't her problem anymore. Shit, that was a stupid idea on Shad's part. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT? Well, fuck it all. She wasn't going to save his ass from a self inflicted spray of demon acid blood. "Let's get the hell out of this library and find the asshole we're trying to rescue. He better be worth our time." She swore to God, there was just so much shit coming her way today. There wasn't exactly much hope of continuing to get away unscathed, really. At this point, she just wanted to stop the invasion and sleep. Maybe she'd swap the order if things dragged out too long. |

"Oof!" Jen grunted as she found herself being shoved by Kell, if only to help her avoid a shower of Nalrusha's blood and guts from the aftermath of the demon's explosive death thanks to Shad's suddenly-expanded toothpick pulling off a chest burster from the demon's insides. "Thanks Kell," Jen nodded as she picked herself up, noting with disgust on how the demon's blood and guts were corrosive, and that what was left of the demon quickly dissolved into a black liquid. "Kell's right, God knows what else might be lurking around if we tarry," the purple-haired girl remarked, agreeing with Kell that they should leave the library and get around to locating Paimon as soon as possible. The purple-haired girl would pause momentarily next to Shad, to dump a bag full of a white powder all over him. "Sodium bicarbonate," Jen explained the contents inside the bag. "Better known as baking soda - its alkaline properties should help to neutralize the corrosive acid," she remarked before moving on. |

"Achoo! Thanks, but I have something for this sort of emergency." Shad sneezed, after fishing out a new tungsten cube from the insides of his right long sleeve, placing it between him and the wave of acid. It was a bit unexpected to be covered in baking soda, but he still had enough mana for one more burst. "Enlargement. Target: Tungsten cube. Original size:.1" W, 1" H, 1" L. . Change to 5' W, 6' L, 6"H." He chanted quickly, just as the acid was about to overtake his position and fired it at the cube, turning it into a large, thick steel wall that subsided the acid easily to either side melting and knocking over the bookshelves instead and slowly held back the acid rapidly corroding instead. A few drops managed to get on his robes and skin though, but the powder lessened the effects of the severe burning sensation. "Tch..." He muttered, getting back to his feet as the massive cube melted to a small metallic puddle in his place. The acid drops stung greatly, but thankfully didn't burn his flesh to the bone. "I'll have to use that device to get a new cube from the dorms once we get back to the others. Those things don't come cheap, ya know." Looking around, he noticed Culsu over in the hallway absolutely stricken by the smell. "You okay, Miss Culsu?" He asked, hoping she wasn't going to freak out at how nasty the corpse was. "We really have to get going finding Paimon so he can tell me who 'Gu' is." Edited by Super Hurricane, Jun 27 2014, 03:25 PM.

"Culsu is confused. Who is Gu?" The green haired demon stared confusedly at the size mage. "That was goo!" she pointed at the place where the defeated demon was. Nalrusha's remains kept evaporating in that fading black miasma, until all that was little more than tattered remains of clothing on the floor. "Culsu wonders if heading in the direction Nalrusha came from can be a good idea. What do culsu's companions think?" |

"If you ask me, the only reason this Nalrusha guy would come here is probably either he couldn't find Paimon at whichever section of the basement he came from," Jen replied as Culsu asked the group whether it would be a good idea to try to search for Paimon by heading down where Nalrusha - now nothing more than a pile of ragged clothing and a black stain on the floor - came from. "Though it might also be just as likely that he'd found Paimon first and assassinated him, and was on his way to report back when he bumped into us - touch wood on that scenario, I hope," Jen continued as she removed her gas mask, the air starting to clear enough that she no longer needed it; and besides it was a bit of an impediment to her speech anyway. "OR maybe that Nalrusha guy might have Paimon cornered at wherever he came from, and was set to do some nasty shit to him until we interrupted him... that's also another possibility," the purple-haired girl mused, bringing up another hypothesis. "But according to the building's floorplans it's not like there's much ground to cover in this basement anyway, so we might as well as give it a try, ne?" And just like that, Jen opted to head down where Nalrusha came in hopes of locating Paimon, or if the demon librarian were dead, at least find what was left of him, in case he might have hidden some important clues around here somewhere. |

"Eh. I'll do whatever." Kell shrugged, back to being violently annoyed at this whole event. "I swear, if Paimon's not dead, he'll wish he'll be after this." No, it wasn't their objective to kill him. But she didn't quite care about that. Once they got what they needed, she was going to add one to the body count. It wasn't treachery if she didn't promise anything. "I'll question him when we get there. It'd be best if you and him left the room before I did that." She said to Jen quickly. Demon vermin would be exterminated with extreme joy and prejudice. That was her guiding motivation right now, and damn anybody who got in her way. |

"G, u. As far as I can tell, he's the mastermind behind this war and the jerk who's trying to destroy the dimensional rift between our worlds, according to a Mazikin that Lady Asteroth beat up for information. Kinda died after saying those two letter though, so I'm hoping Paimon may know the full name so we can just walk up to this guy's house, and have Kell tear him and everyone else inside apart since it's unlikely he would take hostages." Shad stated calmly to Culsu, collecting both the pipe on the floor and placing the rifle in his backpack for the time being once he got his bearings straight. "Also, wrong-o, Kell. I'll be taking point on asking questions once we get him upstairs and back to the castle. Not that I don't trust you, but as you are aware, men have a subtle way of talking to each other, and gain his trust to reveal everything he knows without violence or torture. Besides, if you do anything to him that would compromise the mission and doom the planet, Miss Heleth's dad might get mad at you for sure." He grinned, walking down the hallway with Jen, once he moved around the acid-covered spots on the floor, since the route seemed the obvious way. Edited by Super Hurricane, Jul 1 2014, 01:50 AM.

The hallway went ahead for a little while, before coming up to a large, circular room. Water was pouring out of a crack in a wall, and it made a side of the room slippery. Luckily, a grate drain on the floor prevented it to flood the entire room. The room was certainly one where ancient books were brought to be restored. Broken tables and vials of ink layed on the ground. There were holes of firearms and clear signs of magic usage on the walls and on the tomes now ruined beyond repair. On the ground, three bodies were sprawled into random position. At the center of the circular room stood an empty set of robes, with a pair shoes and a golden pendant made with golden beads. Those robes looked refined, with a set of ancient runes drawn on its borders. What made the picture unsettling, was that they were sprawled on the ground like someone actually used to be in them and just melted away. As the group entered inside, the smell of damp and dead bodies entered their noses. After looking at the scene, Culsu suddenly warped herself at the center, her feet one centimeter away from the ground. Still floating, she was checking the robes with a somewhat alarmed face. "Culsu has a bad news" she muttered "Culsu knows that these are Paimon's clothes." An eery silence fell on the room, broken only by the sound of the water flowing out of the crack in the wall. |

"Watch your step, wet floor!" Jen warned as the hallway led the group to a large circular chamber, and judging from the various materials and tools lying around, served as a restoration workshop for aged/damaged texts. And from the looks of things, it would seem that a fight had taken place here not too long ago. "So we've found Paimon," Jen remarked as Culsu chimed in about how she recognized the pile of clothing on the floor as those worn by Paimon. "Or what's left of him..." the purple-haired girl continued as she got down on one knee to inspect the empty piles of clothing - it was as if Paimon's body had simply dissolved, leaving behind nothing but his clothes. "Verdammt! Did we just come all the way here for nothing!?" Jen hissed in anger as she slammed her right fist onto the floor. "Alright, so now what?" Jen asked the others as she stood up. |

Kell just applied her wooden palm to her head. "UGH." This was a waste of time, and she really hated that things turned out that way. Sure, being stuck in a demon realm was shit. Being in a position where the only people to help her stop an apocalypse were weird also happened to be shit. But this? This, where she nearly died for nothing at all? Shit. "Hmm...." Shad was not exactly displeased or even close to upset the moment we walked through the door into the circular room with the others, taking all the death and destroyed tomes with as much as a frown. Walking over to the robes and pendant, he brushed his hand on the fabric for a few seconds before looking up at Jen. "Still warm...and kinda dry." "Which is kinda odd that he vanished but his clothes didn't. No sign of Nalrusha's acid on the other victims, and the runes seem to be intact. In any case, it's too soon to give up just yet. His body may be gone, but no demon can destroy a soul. His life essence might still be in this room or on his belongings, and even that can be useful if Heleth's father knows the right people for the task I have in mind. Seeing this is the Netherworld and all." He stated calmly, taking note of the brief chill in the air. "There might be something salvagable in this room, or hidden inside of his clothes. Given the hole in the wall, we have maybe a few minutes before the sewer floods in." With that, he set his backpack down on a dry spot on the floor and unzipped it, then proceeded to collect some of the tomes that weren't completely destroyed and placed them inside. Any clue would be useful at this point, and Shad wasn't giving up when it come down to keeping the world safe from harm. |

"Heh" Culsu muttered when Shad said that no demon could destroy a soul. The green snake demon disappeared in a ripple, only to exit on a chandelier hanged at the center of the room. Large chains kept the chandelier in place, so there were seemingly no dangers for it to fall by the weight increase. "Souls are very durable. But anyone with enough willpower can shatter one, even a human. Culsu knows that much." Silence fell on the room and the water pouring from the crack was once again the only sound. The chains that kept the chandelier hanging tingled as Culsu let her body fall off. The woman free fell toward the ground and paimon's clothes, but obviously, she didn't impact the ground. She dived in it, only to materialize next to the drain. Without even touching the waters, the floating demon checked the drain down below. "Culsu says it's not going to fill up anytime soon." The demon kept staring at the water falling down below and began to humm some sort of improvised song. "Just like droplets falling in the darkness ♪ time flows into the unknown ♫ Culsu thought she knew ♪ Maybe Culsu was wrong ♪♫ if Paimon wasn't here ♪ where he could have been? ♫" Now reappearing beside Shad, with a cheery smile she said "What does sharp teethed Shad have in mind? Does Shad know where Paimon is? Because Culsu is fairly certain she knows where he isn't!" |

(OOC: Are you referring to the soul explosion in Dominic Deegan?) "Good point, though I am a bit surprised by that announcement. Yet I think that Nalrusha fellow isn't the type to have a ton of willpower, given he seemed more like a grunt than a commander or general." Shad tapped his forehead for a minute, trying to come up with a idea, then explained his theory to Culsu. "Basically, demons were said to give humans dark magic in exchange for souls long ago, and many demons adapted to those rituals and summonings. One of the most potent gifts a demon has to offer his 'summoner' is nercomancy, the act of seeing/speaking to/raising the dead. It's quite possible that Paimon may be bound to this room spiritually by a item of great value to him, like that pendant or a scroll. We use those items to collect his soul and take him with us, since we humans can't really see souls or can tell if his was destroyed by Nalrusha's willpower, and attempt to find a demon who knows necromancy to establish contact with him. At least, that's my plan to get some answers from him, unless Paimon had a similar teleport skill like yours, Miss Culsu, to escape getting killed but left his clothes in his place." "So what you're saying that while Paimon's physical body is no more, his soul persists?" Jen asked as she looked at Culsu and Shad - their talk about souls being mostly alien to the gadgeteer. Admittedly, this was where the purple-haired girl felt like questioning her role in all of this. Perhaps Selene would've been more useful in such a situation, and probably might be able to make sense of what the size mage and the demoness were talking about. "Bound to an object of great value... so something that essentially functions along similar lines as a Soul Gem, a Horcrux or whatever one calls it..." at least as far as the purple-haired girl knew, the concept of mortality applied very differently to demons compared to humans. At least based on various pop culture portrayals, when a demon is slain in the mortal realm, its physical form is destroyed while its spiritual essence is banished to its native plane of existence - but unlike humans who simply move on to the afterlife, a demon is able to reform its physical body to return as many times as it likes, or as long as greedy/foolhardy mortals are around to attempt a demon summoning. But then, what of demons who are slain in their native plane? Or perhaps like Shad suggested, alternatively he might've somehow escaped using some form of teleportation - perhaps not so much of teleportation but disincorporation, turning his physical form into something intangible and capable of evading capture while leaving his material possessions and clothing behind. "But other than making speculations based on what I've read in various books and paranormal research websites, I'm afraid I have nothing to contribute over here," the purple-haired girl added. Whatever the group decides to do next, she would simply follow along. |
