"Oh dear fucking God, we're actually doing this?" Kell facepalmed again. But as much as she hated it, she did not want to be left alone with a bunch of demons. Receiving an actual curbstomping was an experience she didn't want to go through again, so she had no choice but to follow the rest of the group. Shit. Certain death one way, an even more painful form of certain death if she didn't. It sucked to be Kell right now. "At least hurry it up." She grumbled to the others. "I hate this already, don't make me suffer longer than I need to." |

"Don't worry, the suffering will be on the Mazikin soon enough." Shad said calmly, walking east over to where one of the walls once stood, and stepping over the rubble one step at a time. Once he was near the manhole cover, it took him about three minutes to get in a analysis as he began to chant the reduction magic, causing the cover to 'implode' inward to the size of a dime and fall inward. "Done. Let's get moving, shall we?" He yelled over to the group, as he felt for a located ladder rungs for him to carefully manuever and climb down into the sewer system. "I'll check it out first and light a match." |

"Light a match? Hold your horses, man!" Jen exclaimed as Shad suggested going down first into an opened manhole, and to strike a match to provide some light, except that it was something that the purple-haired girl wasn't particularly keen on. "We don't know if the Mazikin attack had damaged the city's utilities, such as the electrical or gas mains inside the underworks. Assuming there's a leaking gas main down there, you so much as strike a match and this entire part of the sewers is going kaboom, and we can forget about using the underworks to access the library. Not to mention underground sewers can also accumulate flammable gases such as methane or hydrogen sulfide due to decay of waste material, there's a reason why underground tunnels are carefully surveyed and thoroughly ventilated when hot works such as welding are carried out down there, y'know?" Jen warned the group on the dangers of working in enclosed, underground spaces. "Hold up there, I'm going down first to check," the girl remarked as she retrieved an industrial gas mask - a respirator piece fitted with a pair of disposable filter cartridges that trap particulates and neutralize toxic fumes - from her pack, putting on the protective gear before shining a white LED flashlight into the darkness below to look for a ladder, and upon finding one would proceed to climb down before retrieving a handheld scanner of sorts and her phone, pairing the two devices via Bluetooth. "I'm gonna run some scans of the area to analyze the air composition down here, to ensure there're no toxic fumes or flammable gases accumulated down here," the purple-haired girl remarked, before running her scans and checking for the air composition readings via her phone's App that allowed her scanner to display its readings. |

"People complied with no complains!" Culsu had a cheery smile on as she stupidly clapped her hands twice. "Yaaay!" She spun on herself as she began to fly behind the size mage. Culsu warped herself lying down, with her head staring inside the hole as its cover fell down. "Oooh" she said, staring at the metal thing disappear in the darkness below. As such, she was still lying on the ground as Jen wisely preventes Shad to throw an enlightened match down below. "Wise girl! Culsu doesn't like blowing up" she chirped at the end of Jen's explaination. "Culsu and the others will patiently wait up here". The ground below her rippled and she fell into it, only to pop out on a nearby metal bench, drumming her fingers on it. "How silent is destiny after it exploded?" she said, staring at the sky with her usual happy smile. Down below, the sound of water flowing was the main source of noise Jen could hear. As she descended down, she could see the subway level entrance. It was a rusted metal door, closed shut. Even further down, the smell of Dis sewer system was rising, dragged up by the absence of the cover above. There seemed to be no signs of anomalies for the moment. No gas leaks or similar. Except for a large water tube broken, pouring water inside the drainage channel, with a brief stream of clear water quickly consumed by the polluted one surrounding it. According to the map Jen consulted earlier, the path to an access to Dis's library was from the sewer level. A wall had to be taken down, but it was the only barrier separating the sewers and the subterranean levels of the crumbled building. Edited by Sota, May 3 2014, 04:56 PM.

"I don't have any horses, nor am I a man, given I'm currently 14." Shad briefly stated, waiting patiently by the manhole as Jen decided to take the lead and go down first. Obviously a figure of speech was lost on someone like him. 'Besides, given all the wanton destruction and the fires blazing all around us from whatever destroyed this place, it's unlikely we have to fear something like a 'gas leak' ifit hasn't already happened. ' He thought to himself, obviously annoyed that Jen wanted to be the canary. "I've met Destiny once, and she wails like a banshee. Never saw the fragmentation mine til she was right on top and heard the click." He remarked to Culsu, awhile proceeding to follow down after Jen. "In any case, give us a holler if the Mazikin start to approach." "Hm....seems okay to me." He said, sniffing the air once he finished the last ladder rung and stood on the sewer pathway next to Jen, his hand already glowing with magical mana to illuminate his surroundings partially so he could see the door to the subway. "Huh, looks pretty rusty. Give me a minute awhile I get a tool to open it up." He set his backpack on the floor, unzipped it and proceeded to check through it for something that could crack the door open. |

"Fuck it, I'll open up a crack first." Kell slammed her wooden hand against the wall, opening up a lotus bloom against it when she did. With a terrible grinding sound, the bloom's shape was engraved into the stone as she gouged a sizeable chunk out of it. She stood back, frowning and glaring at the others. "There. Feel free to continue." She said tersely, crossing her arms as she shot a nasty look at Culsu. Shit. Jen was probably the only one she could count on here. And that wasn't very comforting, at least not while they were perfect strangers. All she knew about the purple haired girl was that she thought fast on her feet. "Yo. What have you got to help us break through?" She called out to her counterpart. |

"Looks like the air's breathable, the readouts say the health hazard level is negligible," Jen remarked, her voice slightly muffled by her gas mask as she went through the readouts - as far as the air composition went, the levels of toxic chemicals existed well within safe levels, or that is to say even without any protective equipment the threat they pose to human health was effectively nonexistent. "Doesn't mean it doesn't smell bad down here though," the camo-clad girl mused, and for that chose to keep her gas mask on as it did a great job at keeping out most of the foul odors. "Looks like we'll be inside the library's basement... once we get past this wall," Jen remarked as a single obstacle impeded the group's progress. "The surrounding structure appears to retain sound structural integrity..." the purple-haired girl remarked as she ran her hand over the wall. "That means it should be possible to breach this wall without bringing down the ceiling," and that being said Jen stepped back, in case anyone else on the team might have an idea of how to create an entrance. "Ah, looks like a good start!" Jen remarked as Kell addressed her, stepping forward to examine the other girl's handiwork. "Looks like you've weakened the wall... and I think I might just be able to finish the work..." Jen ran her hand over the cracked surface once more, tapping occasionally as she tried to probe for weaknesses, or the proverbial shatterpoints in the structure, and after a few seconds of seemingly visually scrutinizing the wall while rubbing it the girl stepped back, to assume an offense-ready martial arts stance - horse-legged stance, with her arms tucked close to her body. "Let's do this," Jen followed by her comment with a kiai shout as she threw herself forward, her stance allowing her to explosively release her power akin to letting go of a compressed spring, using her momentum to add more force to her punch, her wrist giving a sharp turn from knuckles-up during her ready stance, to a default knuckles-down position when throwing her punch, using the sudden rotation to further add to the momentum, her punch flying towards the dead center of where Kell had previously gouged a chunk out of the wall. "Bingo," Jen smiled behind her mask as her fist practically caved the wall in - a network of cracks radiating out from where she struck. "Possessing strength is one thing, using it to its fullest potential is another," Jen remarked. "Concentrating all your force onto a single pin point location on an object's weakest point is a surest way of stressing it past its breaking limit," the girl continued, making it clear that it was more a matter of technique rather than strength that allowed her to manage this feat. "Well, I've effectively said open sesame," Jen remarked as she proceeded to retrieve a crowbar from her pack, ramming its billed end into the cracks to further dislodge chunks of masonry and getting down to work to create a breach in the wall. |

Culsu floated behind the group, silent and with a dreamy smile, but with a hand on her nose to keep her nostrils closed. It took little more effort from Jen to open a crack large enough for them to enter. The room they entered wasn't very large. It was dark inside and a strong smell of dust and old paper permeated it entirely. The walls of the room were white in color, with a red and gold colored strip on the borders to the ceiling. By peeking inside with a light, it was possible to see that it contained a shelf, a good number of scrolls and a chair. On the chair, Culsu was waving at the group with a motherly smile. "Hello! Culsu greets you!" she stated, maybe a bit too loud "Welcome into Dis's library! You didn't open the heaven's door but it's a step toward your goal! Culsu says hello to grumpy Kell too!" Just when did she teleported inside? The green haired demon calmly floated away from the chair and checked the scrolls on the shelf. She gave them little more than a simple glance though, before turning toward the group. "Culsu has never been here before, so Culsu can't lead the way. Should we check the largest halls first?" |

"Ah....found it. Now then-" Shad's words fell short when he turned around to see Jen's and Kell's handiwork, a playing card with small black lines along the right edge in his hand. "Geez, did you have to smash the door so hard? I was going to shrink the length density of it using this to measure it, so it would be as thin as wallpaper. Good thing the wall and upper floor didn't collapse." He sighed, wondering why those two were so crazy to put so many demons above at risk. "Well, no matter. Onwards then." Shad muttered, walking past the two to be in front through the door and into the library room. No sense in letting them get hit if Paimon was paranoid enough to attack anyone who approached him after all. Seeing Culsu down there surprised him though, almost as much as him wondering when Kell came down the ladder rungs after him. "Ah, hello. I'm not sure what you mean by Heaven's door, but glad that you decided to accompany us." Shad said calmly, even though he was partially blind in such a dark space. He did, however, notice the scrolls nearby but decided it would be pointless to acquire them if they were in the demon's tongue. "I suppose the biggest halls might work, but given into account Paimon was probably in a panic due to the ground shaking and the building torn up, he might have gone for a closet or something similar, maybe a storage area. Given how dusty the basement is so far, I wouldn't be surprised if we find prints of his feet leading to him." He then proceeded to walk over to the closest hallway of the room. |

"Aw, madre de dios." Kell muttered under her breath. It seemed like Jen was a real hardy fighter who could sense shatterpoints. Shit, that was a cool power. A little frightening, but at least they were on the same side. The luchadora paused slightly, but slipped into the room ahead of the purple haired girl, even if it meant that she was showing her back to Jen. When she stepped through, still intact, she relaxed ever so slightly. Well, at least until Culsu spoke up. Damn it. God damn it. Smothering a yell of rage, the wrestler just looked away. "WE- We are going to split up. And I don't care if there's something in here with us, because fuck it, we'd all be dead already if we couldn't handle solo missions." Nobody's luck was that good. And there was also no way that Jen and Shad would have zero individual experience. So to hell with it, they could part ways and not raise her blood pressure. |

"A shame this isn't a time to read," Jen mused as the group broke into the basement level of Paimon's library; through her gas mask, the purple-haired girl was able to catch a faint, but recognizable musty smell of dust and aged paper - indicating that this level was likely not accessed for quite some time, presumably the archives, rather than a public area. And there she was, Culsu, sitting on a nearby chair and greeting the group with waves and a smile. "Did Culsu-san just teleport in?" Jen asked, wondering since when did the jade-haired demoness enter the library when she'd been tailing behind the group mere moments ago, or god forbid - she'd teleported in while Kell and herself were hard at work tearing down that wall. "Y'know, if you could do another teleport, couldn't you have just teleported us all in as well? That could've saved Kell-san and I the initial effort of breaking in by force, and not to mention unless we quickly get that breach in the wall fixed, it wouldn't be nice to all the texts stored here what with all that damp air coming in from the sewers, and probably laden with bacteria and mold spores and what have we..." the purple-haired girl wondered. "Well, proceed as a group, or split up... I'm fine either way, though I'm personally more partial with sticking together in case we run into any big nasties along the way. So what'd y'all say?" |

Culsu giggled as she faded inside the chair, only to reappear leaned with her back on the ceiling of the room. The green hair of Cuslu was flowing down, surrounding her face. "Culsu teleported in" she confirmed to Jen "But Culsu did it as soon as Culsu was able to see the room. Culsu can teleport anywere anytime, but Culsu can't risk to warp inside a crumbled wall: Culsu doesn't want to merge with a rock!" The demon waved her hand once back and forward gracefully. "Culsu can move safely wherever molecules can easily be moved away. Water and air come to Culsu's mind! Solid object can be dangerous for Culsu's travels." That implied her power wasn't perfect. Incredibly handy and versatile, yet limited. It also explained why she dragged some of them in a wasteland in the Netherworld instead than directly in the capital city of Sheol in the past. She minimized risks. "Anyway, Culsu thinks that splitting up may speed up search." The green dressed demon slowly floated down from the ceiling, landing in the middle of the room. "But is it smart? Maybe it is." Culsu assumed a ponderous face as she sat on the chair again. "Does Kell know something Culsu doesn't?" The demon scractched her chin. "Does Culsu know something Kell doesn't?" She frowned a little. "Does Culsu know something Culsu doesn't?" "All of them are a possibility!" she said, raising a finger toward the ceiling. Culsu faded in rippling air, only to stand next to Shad. "Philosophy of the library: the best things are found in basements!" The demon of the gates waved her hair and smiled a little. "Culsu just remembered Kell hates Culsu. So Kell is free to split up if she wants. Let's look for the best things now!" The demon floated out of the room, into the silent hallway. It was very silent and a bit dark, and the attempt she made to use a light switch on the wall simply revealed there was no current inside the remains of the building. "No lights!" Culsu cheerily remarked to the group. Suddenly, something resembling a grunt could be heard coming from the right side of the Hallway. A feral grunt that caused Culsu to turn into that direction and stare with her eyes open wide. "Culsu doesn't like that so..." A bright ball of yellow energy passed exactly where Culsu was, as the woman already faded away. "...und." Culsu was now leaned on the wall inside the room, a smirk on her face. An echo of some walls shattering in the distance could be heard, as the energy bullet didn't meet her target. "Culsu leaves whatever it is to you, as Culsu is not a good fighter. Go little Kell, unleash your rage on whatever it is!" |

"You can put the books and scrolls in my backpack if you want, it has a lot of space." Shad said calmly to Jen, assuring to her that there was no need for distress in this sort of situation. "And I don't see why we should split up either. I'm not very good melee-wise." This was directed at Kell, as he followed Culsu down the hallway with a small cube in his hand. All the while taking in the dimensions of the walls and ceiling, he summoned up some mana in the pit of his hand to glow faintly and illuminate a small area of where he was walking. Of course, once discharged as a attack, the glow would end. He quickly swerved to the right to allow the energy ball to pass, fairly surprised by the attack. "What the heck-Mr. Paimon, if that is you, do not attack! We are non-hostile, a rescue party if you will!" Dropping the cube in front of him and Culsu, he pointed downwards at it and chanted. "Enlargement. Target: Tungsten Steel Cube. Original size:1' W, 1' H, 1' L. . Change to 6"W, 3" L, 7"H." With that said,. a very thick steel barrier appeared before him sprouting from the cube. "There we go, you won't have to worry about getting hurt, Miss Culsu. Now, gotta get my rifle." He said, getting off and setting his backpack on the floor to attempt to get the rifle out of the bag. |

"Stay frosty, we've got company!" Jen called out to the rest of the group as a ball of yellow energy streaked through the darkness from the right side of the hallway following a feral grunt, the projectile missing its mark as the green-clad demoness teleported out of the way. "Fan out!" the purple-haired girl remarked as she abandoned her flashlight on the floor before performing a dive, rolling across the floor to vanish behind a nearby bookshelf. "Alright, let's see if we can flank this one," Jen thought as she reached down to remove a Recon 1 knife from a pouch located on her combat vest, unfolding the 4-inch Japanese-made AUS 8A stainless steel blade and giving the weapon a twirl to hold it in what was referred to as an "icepick grip", with her hand tightly clenched around the grip and the blade facing down. Silently, the girl crouched down behind her cover position, waiting for whoever or whatever that fired the energy blast to pass by her location so that she might flank the creature and launch a surprise attack. |

Kell didn't even say anything to Culsu. Her temper was so close to spiralling out of control that she knew it was a bad idea to engage her in conversation. The last straw came when Culsu finally went and insulted her. Well, fuck that noise! She ran out after the demon, intent on bloody murder. Clenching her teeth, she started to pull off her left glove when a yellow ball of energy came streaking towards them. She threw herself back into the room, watching the streaking death attack pass by. Well, fuck that noise even harder! She would deal with Culsu later. Right now, her enemy was somebody who could actually threaten her life beyond mindless babble. Snatching up the flashlight that Jen dropped, Kell knew that she'd have to play decoy for the time being if it meant that she'd get to put the damned demon down. She switched it off for the time being, clanging it against the bookshelves as she ran in order to attract the enemy's attention. She knew the purple haired girl was lying in wait, so she'd let her draw first blood by luring their mutual foe to a position where her ally could attack. Whatever Shad did probably wouldn't slow it down, so she didn't factor his involvement in. |
