Link: Blind Date Pairings
Hyakuji High, Cafeteria
13th of February, 17:00

Each of the students who had signed up would have received a notice at the start of the school day informing them that the blind date would be held at the cafeteria after classes at 17:00 (5pm) on that day. They wouldn't know the actual results of the blind date until they arrived at the cafeteria.

The students who arrived at the cafeteria for the blind date were greeted by a member of the Student Council. The member of the Student Council would then give each student a piece of paper with a number written on. The cafeteria was arranged with numbers placed on the each table. The students were told to go over to and take a seat on the table with their number written on.

The cafeteria was very busy, with some people sitting at their table waiting for their blind date whereas others were already talking to their date for the day.

Yuki and Tuxedo Mask would both have the number twelve (12) written on their card, and would be paired together for the blind date.
[OOC]
You are free to do whatever you want during the blind date. You can leave the school, and go downtown. If you have any questions, feel free to PM them to me.

The boy had written his name on the sign up. No, that was a lie. He had written the name of his alter ego on the sign up. Putting his mask over his eyes as before leaping out of the dorm window, not his own room of course, he became Tuxedo Mask and headed to the Cafeteria full of his fellow students looking for love. At least he assumed that was what people were doing at a Valentine's Day Blind Date.

Looking over the numbers he saw that he was supposed to sit as table 12 with some one named Yuki. Well that was fine. Sweeping his cape aside he casually sat down on the bench and awaited the arrival of his date.

He, of course, was ridiculous. Who came to a blind date wearing a suit with tails and a cape? That sort of behavior was odd to say the least. He was concealing his identity too, which certainly wasn't normal. This sort of thing was about getting to know someone. It wasn't like he was a millionaire looking for love without the strings of his money.

Yuki nervously walked down the hallway of the school after classes had ended, smoothing down the front of her dress for the five-hundredth time that day (and she’d only been wearing it for an hour). Why did she decide to do this again? She must have been having a surge of confidence at the time the sign-up was posted because she couldn’t figure out any other way her name would have ended up on that list. She couldn’t even remember the last time she was this nerve-wracked.

She stopped a few doors down from the cafeteria and pulled a small compact out of her bag, checking her hair one last time. “Messy Dressy” as she called it. She wanted to look like she was trying, but not too hard, lest she come off as desperate. But being that the only date she had ever been on was a fake one for some brain child Seth had on their beach trip a year or so ago, she didn’t exactly know the proper level of dress. Somewhere between t-shirt and jeans, and all-out formal. Sure.

Taking a deep breath, the girl proceeded to walk through the doors of the cafeteria, receiving her number from the student council member.

Twelve, twelve…where was…

…Twelve.

Her eyes scanned the room apprehensively until they landed on a table with a boy sitting by himself, likely waiting for her.

Oh god, this was it.

Her hand reflexively clenched the little piece of paper and she swallowed her fear. No big deal, just meeting someone new. But wait, was he…

Was that a tuxedo?!

Oh no. She drastically underestimated the level of formality of this blind date. Now practically emanating self-consciousness, she momentarily battled in her mind whether or not to run back to her room and change. But there was no time for that.

Go say hi, you dolt!

Somehow her legs carried her over to the table, her heart pounding in her chest. She never had this much difficulty meeting strangers, why was this any different?

“Hello, um…you have number twelve..?”
She held up her number with a meek smile. “Tsukiyoru Yuki, it’s nice to meet you!” She gave her obligatory polite bow, but faltered seeing his mask. Was there a masquerade ball going on that she didn’t know about? The Valentine’s Ball wasn’t TONIGHT, was it?!

Tuxedo Mask stood up. "It's a pleasure to meet you madame." He gave a somewhat more exaggerated bow and with a flourish offered Yuki a red rose. She seemed nervous, and he supposed that was his fault.

After all he was overdressed and wearing a mask. That would be enough to throw anyone off, wouldn't it? Should he apologize for showing up like this? If he hadn't been Tuxedo Mask he would have been awkward so coming like this was only natural for him. It might have been rude though. He gestured toward himself and the way he was dressed "I'm sorry about this. You can call me Tuxedo Mask."

The blind date being in a high school cafeteria was a bit off. He figured he should get her something to eat, but she might prefer to go somewhere else. He didn't need to decide things though. It would be fine if things just worked out.

Yuki graciously took the rose and stuttered a thank you, feeling her cheeks color a bit at the gesture. It wasn’t every day a girl was presented with romantic flowers from dashing young men in tuxedos. And in her case, it wasn’t ANY day at all—except today, of course. She did give an internal sigh of relief that, aside from his outrageous over-preparation in proper attire, he seemed kind and courteous. She could only imagine what would happen if she’d been paired with someone like Seth. Don’t get her wrong, she loved him to death as a close friend, but man could he be miserable at times.

“It’s nice to meet you, Tuxedo Mask,”
she smiled with another bow. Odd name, but she’d roll with it. “I’m sorry I didn’t dress up more! Though I’m not sure I even own anything that would be a proper complement,” she replied with a small laugh.

She glanced around and noticed that some of the other groups seemed to be leaving the cafeteria. That was all well and good, after all, it wouldn’t be much of an outing if they stayed in a room without so much as a drinking fountain inside of it. It seemed strange for her to direct their actions, but she supposed one of them should. Besides, it wasn’t as if there was any real pressure here like one of those crazy dating shows. She just needed to remind herself to act naturally!

Like stuffing her face and tripping over herself?

Yeah. That’ll really win over some hearts.

“Um, shall we…?”
She gestured with the rose toward the door, and resecured the bag in her hand before she began to move in that direction. “I don’t have any particular ideas of what to do! To be honest, I thought it would be decided for us. So I’ll be happy with anything you choose!”

After all, the gentleman was supposed to do those kinds of things, right? …Right?

Oh boy. She really needed to watch more romantic comedies.

Moving Forward

"Alright." Tuxedo Mask grinned. So, it was up to him. In that case the direction was obvious enough. He suddenly, and without giving her a moment to react grabbed Yuki by the hand and pulled her into the hallway of the school. "I haven't really lived here long so I suppose this might not be the best place."

The masked man idly admitted that much to the girl he was bringing along. The truth was that even right now he hadn't decided what he was doing. Much like Yuki he has expected them to decide this sort of thing for them. After all he didn't know this girl. They were meeting for the first time. Hopefully she would like where they ended up.

And so they left the school and headed downtown, eventually ending up at the Mall. It was an arbitrary choice. Along the way they exchanged a few pleasantries and Tuxedo Mask wasn't entirely sure he had any left. He was going to have to say words with actual content.

"How about a nice movie." He looked over the sign of what was on. This was the sort of thing you usually checked before making it to the theater, but he hadn't decided on it until they were here. Anyways there was plenty to do in a mega mall like this one.

Yuki’s heart felt like it got caught in her throat when he took her hand to direct where they would go. It was a completely innocent move and she was likely overreacting, but she didn’t think strangers—well, acquaintances—just went around holding people’s hands within the first two minutes of meeting. Maybe she needed to stop acting like a prude and realize this was 2014, not 1952.

The travel time to the mall was nice. It was full of polite conversation that two civil human beings might have with one another. Especially two people who didn’t know what to talk about, not wanting to unintentionally offend the other person. So there was lots of talk and speculation about the weather, and the classes they were taking. Really deep stuff, you know.

“A movie?”

She actually hadn’t thought of seeing a movie. She sort of thought they’d grab a bite to eat, chat for a while, then go their separate ways. But that didn’t sound like much fun. She hadn’t been to a proper movie in a while, and it was obviously better to go with someone!

Someone dressed like he should be heading to a masquerade ball, but still.

“That sounds great! How about…we gamble and just get the tickets to whatever’s playing soonest?” That would help take the pressure off trying to agree on one. Unless the option ended up being some totally heavy and boring drama, then they might have to reconsider.

“You grab the tickets, I’ll get something from the snack bar! The totals should about even out. We’ll meet back in the lobby,” she said with a definitive nod and a smile.

She walked over to the concession area and bought a big tub of popcorn, two bottles of water, and some kind of sweet candy to balance out the saltiness. She really could have bought five other types of food, but she didn’t want to scare him off with her insane appetite.

Carefully holding everything so as not to drop it (which could be quite a feat for those who knew her), she waited for him to return with the tickets in their little game of movie roulette.

"Hmm, alright. That sounds like fun to me." With that offhand comment Tuxedo Mask moved to the counter and waited in line. The other patrons looked at him in slight confusion, but after a few moments lost interest. After all he was just a person standing in line, no matter how ridiculous he was dressed.

Waiting in line he looked at the schedule... The next thing that was going to play was Slaughter Kill... What sort of title was that. He wasn't so sure he wanted to see that. He told her they would see the next thing so hat might be what they did.

No, that was fine. Perhaps he would look at the next thing playing. He didn't even need to mention that. He looked at the schedule again. Moe Moe Adventures of Yu~tan... You know what he didn't care. He would just take the first one.

"2 for Slaughter Kill." The man waited for his ID and strangely enough Tuxedo Mask produced his actual ID. The man behind him seemed very surprised by his choice of film, since he didn't look like the sort to watch that sort of thing.

After a few moments he received his tickets and returned to the lobby to meet with Yuki. He walked up next to her and picked up some of the carefully balanced snacks from her. "Shall we go then?" He bowed down and walked toward the theaters, handing over their tickets.

Yuki happily took the ticket from her date (which made her giddy even thinking of it that way) but didn’t look at the name. She liked keeping an air of mystery around it and building up to the surprise, so she simply held the ticket without reading it until it was torn by another theater employee to let them in. She admitted that things were still a bit awkward, but hopefully those tensions would ease over the duration of the movie.

Ooh, maybe they were going to see Moe Moe Adventures of Yu~tan…

She moved into the theater, glad the lights weren’t completely down yet because she tended to have awful instant-night vision. She was definitely “that person” who would trip up the stairs in the theater despite the little rope lights on each side. Yuki chose a row of seats that were somewhere around the middle of the theater, figuring it would be a happy medium if he preferred the very front or very back. The girl settled into her seat, dropping her bag and jacket in the empty seat on the other side.

A movie! It’d been so long since she’d seen a proper movie.

She mentally noted that there seemed to be a lot of guys in the audience and fewer girls, but she couldn’t blame him if he decided to go with a selection that fit his demographic more. As long as it wasn’t some gory movie with blood and guts and limbs everywhere, she’d be fine. She looked over at him as the lights started to dim.

“Can you see alright with your mask on? I won’t say anything if you need to take it off, especially since I’m pretty sure we’ve never actually met. But if not, I understand!”

She was more concerned with his ability to see than learning any kind of “secret identity,” given the fact that she had no previous knowledge of him. In the meantime, she put the popcorn between them and started noshing while the previews ran.

Tuxedo Mask was still pretty unsure about this movie as the girl he was with chose their seats and set down her jacket and purse. He followed suit, sweeping his cape off and draping it, and his hat, over the seat to his right as he sat down next to Yuki.

"Truth be told I can probably see better with the mask on." He had found that he overall more or less preferred to be Tuxedo Mask as often as possible. Of course he couldn't sleep like this and when he released the transformation he was exhausted, but those were minor points, and no reason he couldn't enjoy a date with a girl dressed like this. Even without its other attributes he had a suit that essentially washed itself.

The movie started slow. For the first 10 or 15 minutes it could have been about anything. It was a group of college kids camping. They all had fairly distinct characters for this sort of movie. Of course after that it was absolutely some gory, violent movie with blood going everywhere as those likable characters from the beginning of the film were killed off.

Tuxedo Mask grimaced as he watched the movie. He should have picked the movie instead of taking the arbitrary suggestion that he just buy tickets for the first thing playing. He glanced over at Yuki to see what she thought of it. He didn't know what sort of person she was but at this point he was just about ready to leave the theater. This really wasn't something he was enjoying. "Maybe we should just skip to dinner..."

As the movie progressed, Yuki was making a concerted effort to keep her cool. The last thing she wanted was for this guy to think she was totally lame and afraid of something that obviously wasn’t real. At first it was the odd jump in her seat at the scenes where something would pop up suddenly, and she tried to quietly laugh them off with some minor embarrassment woven in.

But when the drops of blood started turning into buckets, and it was clear that the director didn’t want to leave ANYthing up to the imagination, she started to get unsettled. She had a permanent grip on the popcorn bucket that she was starting to crush (not that it was difficult, it was only paperboard), and the more the movie went on, the more she was driven to be near another human being.

In other words, she had unknowingly inched her way closer to him until she was all but clinging to him directly, irrationally thinking something was going to jump out of the screen and try to stab her in the face.

Then again, this WAS Hyakuji. So that might have been a legitimate concern.

“Skip?” Her voice squeaked as she spoke, still failing miserably to demonstrate any sort of fortitude. “It’s fine! You bought the tickets and it was the first movie, so…” Another scream and the sound of a chainsaw came from the surround sound and she hastily shoved a handful of popcorn in her mouth, trying to pawn her own small yelp off as “enjoying” the popcorn. If nothing else, the popcorn should've helped muffle it a bit.

She offered some more to him, but that death grip was NOT going to let go of the bucket for anything. It was the only thing separating her and a fake serial killer.
