ZEHAHAHA!!
Ah, what a nice day! Lucid tapped the counter of her spiffy ice cream stand, grinning ear to ear like usual as she looked around for potential customers. As a field tester, she had plenty of leeway in collecting information and money. Mostly money, really. The eggheads back at Il Diluvio HQ were so self-assured in the quality of their products that Lucid's position was essentially to help them ego wank their way into deluded bliss.

But that was fine! She was okay with their self aggrandizing behaviour as long as it didn't interfere with her fun. And by golly, selling experimental ice cream was proving to be entertaining here. Besides, she couldn't be mad at them even if she could feel that way. She'd have to condemn her beloved Scarlett as well, and that was seriously not a thing that she would like to do.

"Ice cream, ice cream, the tears of the sea are in your grasp~!"

Lucid called out to anybody who would listen, hawking the sea salt ice cream like there was no tomorrow. Hello to the world, would you like one scoop or two? That was her motto of the day. So far, there had not been much business. But there were prospects, here and there.

One of them was coming up right now, in fact. Time to lure her in with some diplomacy.

"You there, lady! Hello, would you like some free samples?" She asked cheerfully, grinning lopsidedly as she waved. "It's some real good ice cream here~!"

Aria was taking a stroll through the park to relieve her frustrations. So far she had not involved herself in any sort of activity that would be productive in her attempt at ruling the world with an iron grip of peace. In fact, it seems like any sort of event that could even provide a hint of that opportunity passed her just literally after she had finally been able to transfer.

'Why must missed opportunities happen so often? Especially for a future ruler of the world?'

"You there, lady! Hello, would you like some free samples?" She asked cheerfully, grinning lopsidedly as she waved. "It's some real good ice cream here~!"

Aria turned towards the noise and saw a rather cheerful looking girl about her age.

"Ice cream?"

Aria looked at the little stand that the girl had set up and thought about it. On the one hand, ice cream was a rather large source of fat and sugar. The future ruler of the world can't look awful, after all she had to present a good image in order to keep her rule. On the other hand, she still had years to go and one scoop of frozen goodness wouldn't kill her figure. On the other mutated hand, the girl selling the ice cream was cheerful, and she didn't trust cheerful people. Cheerful people were always up to something or being used by somebody for something.

'Oh screw it.'

"I would love some, thank you," Aria said, giving an elegant and probably too practiced smile.

ZEHAHAHA!!
Haha, what an odd lady! Her clothes and her voice were all funny, but it was also kind of well put together at the same time. Interesting how that worked out. Lucid made an extra big scoop, just for this customer! Haha, this should be good.

"New from the production lines, sea salt mint honey vanilla! Enjoy to your heart's content, pretty lady!"

Hey, she called them as she saw them. That said, there was one thing that she didn't like about the girl.

"By the way, your smile's a little strained." She said cheerfully, completely unreserved with her own brainless happiness.

Considering how freely she expressed her emotions, however shallow they were, the artifice of others stood in stark contrast to her guileless behaviour. And she wasn't so dumb she couldn't recognize that.

That said, that was the very limit of her opinion. She couldn't get mad because that was something that didn't exactly happen in that half-baked brain of hers. So she just stood there, robotically watching the brown haired girl and the ice cream. The reasons why the mysterious stranger would make such practiced movements eluded her. All she knew was that she had made another sale and that was fine.

"New from the production lines, sea salt mint honey vanilla! Enjoy to your heart's content, pretty lady!"

Aria gratefully too the ice cream cone from the vendor and was about two seconds away from taking a lick when she forcefully pulled it away.

'Did that girl just say something about production lines? What in the world?'

However, before she could think anymore about it.

"By the way, your smile's a little strained."

'WHAT! My smile is not strained! I practiced this smile every day in front of the mirror! It is a perfection in social warfare! What do you know you ice cream vendor! Furthermore, an ice cream vendor of questionable ice cream! Ooh, I knew I can't trust bubbly people like you!'

However, before she could think anymore disparaging things, Aria forced herself to calm down with several deep breaths.

'Calm yourself Aria. You are a composed, dignified, and lovely future ruler of the world. You can't let this ice cream vendor of mysterious ice cream get to you. First, let's think... she is definitely not up to something. She probably wouldn't have said anything if she was up to something. Then she must be used by some people for something. Ergo, I need to discretely dispose of this...rather lovely looking cone of sugar else where.'

Deep in the recesses of her mind, she was already mourning the loss of her ice cream.

'Enough of that, now I need to question this girl. I need to know what she knows so that I can know what I should know. Ergo...'

"Forced smile you say? Oh, whatever do you mean?"

"Well, yes. I did say production lines. It's product testing season!" Lucid cheered, pulling out a small noisemaker and blowing on it. "And that means people get surveys with their free samples!"

She set the toy down and kept on smiling. Then, almost as if it was an afterthought, pulled out a bottle of chocolate sauce and set it down on the counter. Perhaps she was inviting Aria to put some on her sample?

"As a consumer of our products, we're greatly interested in your opinions and room for further improvement! Il Diluvio is always seeking to deliver the highest quality products and service to the discerning customer!"

Ah, the old corporate spiel. That sort of stuff came naturally to Lucid, being exposed to a lot of those slogos and platitrademarks in her time staying in ID HQ. Of course, she really didn't get how it'd sound to others, but it was real nice to her. That said, she did notice that Aria was hesitant in eating the ice cream. Hmm. What would the manual say?

"Miss, if you aren't happy with your sample, I could give you another one." She raised her ice cream scoop again, waving it slightly as if the scoop was saying 'hello' to her. "Or if you're worried about the nutrients, I don't think you would have to worry about any effects on your figure."

Negotiations were going well, she assumed. But then a new wrinkle appeared. The customer asked about one of her comments. The gears ground, jammed, then restarted with a pop. Okay, she had an answer!

"Oh, it just seemed a little weird. I work with a lot of normal people all the time. The frowns they make could be seen from space!" She raised her scoop and traced it across the sky. "But they have to keep up appearance when dealing with customers. And there's a sort of tension in their faces that sort of matches yours. But you're better at it than them, because you aren't crazy like they are."

Also, because she was prettier, but that wasn't relevant. What did matter was the ice cream sample part.

"Soooo, with that explained, how about taste-testing?" In her haste, she made an assumption that was really unwarranted. "Or maybe you want to share your sample with me?"

She smiled giddily, pulling out a plastic spoon.

Aria had never trusted the cheerful type, and this entire conversation with Lucid did absolutely nothing to cure her of the suspicion. In fact, it might just be turning the fear distrust into outright prejudice. Regardless, the girl felt as though she had to "disarm" this rather too cheerful ice cream vendor.

'To be honest, I really just want to throw this ice cream to the ground right now. Nothing about this girl's behavior is convincing me that this thing is safe. Ooh, but you can't just throw things to the ground. Oh, and I need to apparently fix my smile. Hm, alright, let's do this.'

"I see, my smile seems that strange? Oh my my that won't do at all. I can't talk to people with such a strange smile. Hm, oh I know, how about you help me out here. I'll keep smiling until you can't tell a difference between a normal smile and my smile. In return...how about I let you take a bit of this ice cream you so graciously gave me. In fact...this might not be my policy, but how about a little down payment." Aria pointed her bundle of frozen goodness forward, no doubt to entice the vendor. "Don't worry, I won't say a thing about you eating on the job."

ZEHAHAHA!!
Several beats passed, but Lucid finally got the gist of her response. She took the ice cream, her smile surprisingly affectionate for having her own product handed back to her. Perhaps she had been completely taken in by the stranger's words?

"Oh, thanks! I'll certainly help you out, uhh... What's your name?"

She cocked her head, curious as to the stranger's identity. And really, that was an important step in establishing a relationship of trust! Not that Lucid understood that Aria was so mistrustful of her, of course. The ice cream vendor simply rested her elbows on her counter, slowly spooning the delicious cold scoop of sweetness into her mouth.

"I can also provide more services! If you need somebody to hold groceries or act as a backup singer, I'm available for less than minimum wage!" She smiled widely.

Aria watched the bubbly girl ingest her own frozen concoction, and felt somewhat disappointed that it really did seem like ordinary ice cream. She was at least expecting the girl to change skin color. However, she continued to display her fake smile to the best of her ability.

"I can also provide more services! If you need somebody to hold groceries or act as a backup singer, I'm available for less than minimum wage!"

That fake smile quickly became far more real as soon as she heard those words. A single thought quickly emerged from her mind.

'Minion.'

"My name is Aria L. Jones, and that is very kind of you to offer," Aria said in reply. "I am quite new to this city, and any sort of help would just be grand. May I ask your own name? And possibly contact information?"

ZEHAHAHA!!
Lucid didn't quite catch the implications of the smile. All she knew was that the stranger displayed a sudden boost in smiling power! Very proper, 10/10! She clapped, clearly enthused at her change.

"Super! That was beautiful!" She gave the customer a thumbs-up, impressed at the look. Truly, she had absolutely no idea what she was in for when the stranger revealed her identity. The idea of more gainful employment crowded out the danger.

"Hello, Aria! I'd be glad to help you out." Well, more glad than usual, at any rate. "I'm Lucid Talleyrand, at your service!"

Passing a slip with her number on it, the white haired fool cocked her head.

"I'm available starting now. Any jobs you have in mind so far?"

"Hm, well none for now," Aria said, slipping the number into her purse. "However, I'll definitely keep in touch soon, but think of the ice cream as your first payment."

With a wink, Aria departed from the stand, in pure delight over gaining a minion of her own, if only part time. Actually, considering that this is technically more of a freelancer hiring, it really couldn't be called a full henchmanship yet, but baby steps are necessary.

'...Crap, I'm going to need to find a way to pay her aren't I?' Aria realized.
