The smoke cleared enough for Sophia to see Seth and a wounded Eris standing amidst the rubble of… the fountain? Then that meant that the seal… “Damn you… get back here you scum!!” The Valkyrie threw herself at the badly wounded demon with every intention of killing her, but it was too late and the goddess had escaped in a wisp of smoke. Had Sophia taken the time to think thing through she would have realized that the circumstances were very unusual, namely how she had just come from a battle with Eris and yet here she was watching another Eris flee. There were more pressing matters in her mind though, Eris had mentioned some kind of poison that she had hit Seth with, so the Valkyrie rushed to the fallen young man’s side. “Hey… hang in there dammit…” She heard him speak, but couldn’t see who he was addressing and immediately jumped to the worst possible conclusion. “The strongest man in the world wouldn’t fall to a little poison... so don’t you dare give up on me now!” Of course she had no way of knowing that he was actually going to be okay, so she did her best to heal him of his wounds. Unfortunately she had no way of counteracting the poison, but maybe she could keep the poison from doing too much damage until they could get some help. Without a moment’s hesitation Sophia pushed his hand aside and ripped off his shirt. “Hold still, don’t try to resist…” She pressed her hand on his chest and began channelling her healing magic into his body. Poisons usually work their way to the heart and spread from there, so if she could contain the damage there he should be okay. |

Turning misery into meaningfulness!
|
Shirena's immediate confusion was suddenly enveloped by panic, as he was (fittingly) enveloped by hair a second time. He struggled to little success, seeming to lack the rage-based strength he had before. He looked up at his captor, the look in her eye, despite the different appearance, reminded him of... "Is that you, Heleth?" He asked, with a raised eyebrow. "What happened? I don't remember anything after you showed me that lake, and those things attacked me..." He said, lessening his struggle against his bindings. "...You are Heleth, right? You really look kinda like her." |

Astaroth ran beside Aya, and the tanned girl followed her with her gaze. She didn't pursue Eris? Did that mean the goddess really left? Aya immediately trailed off behind the Demon of War. Right, now that a menace left the field, there were the others to take care of. That was why Aya headed for Shirena and Heleth instead. Maybe the red demon could need some support with their fellow student. --- Trapped in her hair, Shirena tried to flail, struggling to no avail. Heleth stared in surprise. Shirena reckognized, but he mumbled some nonsense about her taking him to a lake. Unfortunately for Heleth, the girl had no time to see the mysterious shapeshifting creature with her shape during the whole set of events, but it was clear to her he was deceived somehow. "Don't move!" she repeated "I-I can't trust you right now!" Despite that, the now taller red skinned girl could not afford to let her guard down again. Her previous (careless) attempt to help him ended with him rampaging around in fury. She could not let him do it again. Now that Astaroth's target left, she'd probably dispatch him without too much tought should he attack again. He was nothing more than an opponent in the Mazikin's ranks after all. "Heleth!" Aya was approaching when the ground began to shake. Both girls turned toward the direction of Derweze's fountain. --- Astaroth arrived too late. The fake Eris already faded, and her yellow eyes stared in worry at the sight of the fountain now broken. "Holy hell!" She stopped at the edge of the square, as the ground began to shake. It was a faint vibration at first, something far from a tremor. The eyes of Astaroth ran at Seth and Sophia, and she dashed in her direction. Bat wings grew on the back of the demon, as she dashed forward to reach them. "We have to get away from here!" Astaroth's wings pushed her forward, and with a lunge she landed between Seth and Sophia. Ingoring any possible opposition (coming from Sophia at least, Seth wasn't exactly in condition to do so), the female demon grabbed both of them and jumped away, her wings spread wide. For those that could look toward the broken fountain, they could see that the water all around the ground was boiling and evaporating. The ground quickly became dry. The fountain itself began to crumble on itself, slowly descending into the ground. Everything left in close proximity to the fountain was disappearing, eroded away from reality itself. What appeared now as a large crater was extending to engulf the whole square. --- As the ground began to shake, Aya lowered her stance and managed to maintain her balance. The same could not be said about Heleth, that hindered by her own hair stands that were binding Shirena, fell down, right on the imprisoned student. --- As soon as the crater extended into the whole square, a blazing fire ignited into it. Its flames were so bright that everything around faded into black. Only the ignited crater was visible. Derweze's buildings were like hidden by its sudden appearance. ![]() "Oh my god..." Aya was speechless at a similar sight. On the ground, beside her, Heleth was now lying over Shirena. Her face was against his. To be more specific, the fall caused the demon to accidentally kiss her prisoner. Heleth was so surprised of that realization, that se was unable to move, her heart racing like mad. Her face was blazing hot, but it wasn't caused by the raging flames close to them, was it? --- On the other side of the flaming crater, Astaroth landed, letting down both Seth and Sophia. The blue demon turned, and stared with a serious face toward the now slowly expanding phenomena. The roofs of the closest housess began to slowly fade away, slowly deleted from existance. The dancing lights on her face made her look even more serious as she stated "We failed". Two heavy words that perfectly resumed that outcome. Edited by Sota, May 11 2014, 08:43 AM.

Well, it's nice that she's worried about him and all, but he's really not in the mood to be grateful at the moment. "Wha- hey! Dammit what was that for?!" Sophia wouldn't be able to do more than just tear off his shirt as he immediately retaliated and slapped her hands away from him, clearly more than healthy enough to be angry, albeit even more so than usual... for a good reason. He couldn't have prepared himself for anything to happen afterwards, all of a sudden the young man felt the wind knocked out of him as the blue demon Astaroth grabbed him by the waist with such force and swept him off his feet away from the fountain. Or what would used to be the fountain, because the next time he could lay his eyes on it, it was nothing more than a giant crater of blazing fire. ...He could say nothing, in all honesty. He could only let his eyes sweep pass the destruction of the city caused by the rift from the destruction of the fountain... Now that the inhibitor had been destroyed, chaos is starting to spread, and soon enough it would take over the entire Netherworld, and eventually the surface, Earth, their own world, itself. ...Shit, is that it? Is that... really it?! He can't accept this, that one small flub should NOT have jeopardized the entire world! "...Don't... say that just yet...!" The young man growled at Astaroth, though he was more angry at himself. This is ridiculous, he hadn't bargained for this at all, there's no way he's letting... whatever is happening, happen! "What the hell are we looking at here?" He said as he decided to put his temper to good use, stepping forward towards the great fiery crater with his swords clenched tight in his hands. "...Do you know where does this thing lead to?" ... Wait, he's not thinking of...? |

It was only when Seth slapped away her hand did Sophia realize that he was perfectly fine… and what it looked like she was doing. The Valkyrie suppressed a blush and quickly pulled away before the others arrived. She tried to ask about the two Eris when Astaroth arrived, but the demon pulled both her and the young man away before she could utter a word. By then the damage to the town had begun to show and Sophia stood in awe and shock of what was going on. “Wha…what is this? What’s going on?” Her inquiry was answered by the two words that she had dreaded since she saw the destruction of the fountain. “… Even if we failed to defend the fountain it doesn’t mean it’s over.” The Valkyrie walked up to the edge of the destruction, trying to see into the gaping maw. If it weren’t for the fact that they were already in the Netherworld she would have wagered that it was some kind of gateway to hell. Tearing her eyes away from the sight she placed herself between the fiery pit and Seth and firmly grabbed his shoulders. “I know how you feel Seth, but going down there is suicide, even for you. We should prepare for what’s coming.” She glanced at Astaroth with her hands still on Seth’s shoulders. “I think it’s in everyone’s best interests for you to tell us what’s on the other side now.” |

Turning misery into meaningfulness!

Shirena looked at Heleth, with a small sort of glare. Not one of malice, but more so worry, than anything else. She had been....altered, in a way. It was an odd sort of look for her, but he sighed, and looked towards the giant hole of fire a little ways away from himself. It didn't really bother him, as he was pretty used to fire at this point, typically being covered in it and all, but this was different. Aya was here too, though he really didn't see her around until this moment. Very, very different. It was like the air had become more oppressive at that very moment. He barely noticed, and looked at Heleth. "He-" He was immediately cut off by a fall to the ground, and pair of lips, seemingly pressing against his own. He blushed intensely, unsure of how to reaction. Sure, he kinda-sorta-maybe had a crush on her, but this was REALLY not the time. He felt his bindings loosen, a bit, but he began to feel dazed, as though the kiss drained away at his consciousness. He didn't really have a way to react to this....unexpected sight. He really had no idea what was going on, in fact. |

"Heh. Heh he he-" Astaroth let out a somewhat relaxed laugh, as her yellow eyes looked at the two, very worried humans. Their shock was easy to understand, because they had no idea about what they were protecting. "You misunderstood me. On the other side of that portal there is Earth" The demon of war stood silent for two long seconds, to let her words weight a little more. "It's not a vision of the future or hell on Earth. It's this same place on your own world. That is Derweze on your homeworld." She crossed her arms, as her eyes returned on the fire. "Ironically, Culsu can explain this better than I can, but our realities can be connected. When places in our worlds become identical, they begin to overlap, fusing together in a single location." Astaroth took a deep breath. "Valkyrie, do you remember when I told you that the Mazikin are weakening the barriers that separate our worlds? The seal of this town was one of those barriers. The were made by Lord Paimon to prevent our realities to merge together and allow the Mazikin to leave. With Paimon gone, we won't be able to make a new seal. Humans and demons are now free to roam between worlds using Derweze as a passageway" ---- Aya turned toward Shirena and Heleth only when the red demon finally reacted, waving her hands in panic as she moved away from his face. And, the next second, she closed her fists, clenched her fangs and punched him on his face, yelling "Moron! That's not how I wanted it to ha...What were you thinking kissing me at a time like this!?" Heleth turned toward Aya, her face was furious. "What the hell are you looking at!?" Aya immediately looked elsewhere. |

... Hold on he needed a moment to take in the revelation. ... WHAT?! Wait, then she means... "Derweze... Derweze..." The young man, or rather the Metavirus, repeatedly muttered to himself as he raked his fingers through his hair, seemingly trying to recall something from memory. "...You mean... THAT place Derweze from... shit, wherever it was? The one with the so-called Gate to Hell burning gas reserve?" Wait, what are you talking about? There's a Derweze on our place? "...I'll lecture you on your lack of trivia knowledge later, but yes, there is a Derweze on Earth. I can't remember where but it's a small town in the Middle East. There, a huge underground natural gas reserve that was drilled out by the Soviets back in 1971. The ground collapsed and lots of gas was leaking out. They were worried about the amount of poisonous gas so they decided to burn then. Turns out the gas reserve was so much it kept burning until today, so the locals even called it the Gate to Hell. THIS, is the so-called Gate to Hell, and THIS whole town is Netherworld's Derweze, AND Earth's Derweze!" ...Seth needed more time to really take in this new revelation, but... From what he's understanding, the Netherworld and Earth is like... a mirror counterpart to each other. If they're identical, then they're... practically the same, and they would end up merging with each other, allowing those from either world to go through the merged portals to the other world. ...Hold on a second, "Then that means there's no way to actually stop this thing from happening?!" Of course he was livid, if it had been something so simple as... god, he doesn't know, go through some kind of portal to destroy whatever is causing the portals to merge and spread chaos to Earth, then he could have done it easily himself. This however... this is a completely different order of problem, and he really can't solve it with just brute force this time. I mean... it's practically the law of nature itself, the two worlds are MEANT to merge together unless they're separated by a seal that can only be made by god knows who is where. This is actually making him a LOT more frustrated than he thought it would. How the hell is he supposed to... you know he was the one who blew up that fountain right?! "...You sound surprisingly relaxed..." The young man muttered through a hand over his face, peering through his fingers at Astaroth. |

“Y…you can’t mean… THAT Derweze?” Sophia couldn’t believe she didn’t realize it sooner, she had sat through entire lectures about the Gate to Hell back when she was with the Order. People had theorized that it led to the Netherworld, but there was no proof and it was far too risky to send an expedition into what was essentially a fire pit. But to think that it was actually keeping the two realities apart… “It’s not too late! This isn’t like the barrier in Hyakuji where it’s a whole forest, this is just a single point!” The Deep Woods back at the school bled into the Netherworld and it merged with Earth in return. If what Astaroth said was true, that was what was happening here, but on a much smaller scale. “I’ll contact my people, we can seal off the portal on Earth’s end and keep normal people away. I’m sure Mastema will do the same on this end until we come up with some temporary seal!” Even if it seemed like a plausible plan one could tell that the Valkyrie was seriously shaken by this latest revelation. She looked between Seth and Astaroth, trying to get any reassurance from either of them, so when Seth, seemingly, threw her a line, she leapt onto it. “Don’t you have some kind of back up Astaroth? Some kind of fail safe? It only makes sense to have one or two countermeasures for something this important!” |

Shirena, and Heleth, by extension, were somewhat in the backround of everything happening, though Shirena missed most of what they had said. While this was partially due to the fact that his second kiss was just stolen by his boss tripping, it was also because of the fact that the raging flames nearby were surprisingly quite loud. After Heleth removed herself from him...she became quite angry. She drew her fist back, and Shirena tried to move...but he was still a bit stunned by what had just transpired And then blackness. Yes, the (admitted) weak demon girl, with the power of a 14 year old girl, knocked out Shirena. Never underestimate the power of the most physically powerful form of female, the Tsundere. |

Astaroth's golden eyes silently stared at the flames in the crater. "We lost a battle, not the war. As long as we control this portal, there's nothing to be worried about." The demon's wings retracted and disappeared inside her back as she checked her broken horn with a hand. "Tch..." she muttered. Astaroth turned toward Sophia and reserved her a satisfied smile. "We will reinforce this area and make sure no Mazikin will pass through. I'm sure it's in your order's best interests to control the portal from the other side. Contacting them would be a wise move." ---- "He fainted" Heleth muttered as she stared at the unconscious boy "How pityful" The girl stood up, and finally her brain caught up with what was happening on their surroundings. "Holy..." words died at the sight of the flaming crater of Derweze, to the point her next word was nothing but a whisper "...hell" "What is going on!?" she demanded after a second of astonishment to Aya. "I don't know" was the tanned girl's answer "But it looks like we lost" Heleth checked her surroundings, and realized there was no sign of battle. The enemy left, leaving Shirena with them "We'd better reach Astaroth and the others" she said "Help me drag that moron with us" "I'll carry him, leave it to me" Aya's eyes reddened and the girl went to carry the unconscious boy around the area to reach the others, with Heleth leading the way. ---- Astaroth seemed to notice the two girls and the knocked out Shirena were moving in their direction, and promptly shouted to them, gesturing with a hand to stay away from the area involved into the fusion. "Hey you! Do a large circle around it, don't go too close to it! The portal is still unstable and you might end killed! Disintegrated like those houses! Her hand pointed ad the consumed roofs and walls of the houses that were surrounding the portal area. Once she was sure that the two girls understood her, she turned toward Seth, asking him: "Where's Leraje?" OOC

...What, not gonna tell him to do anything? Hello, she's not the only one who can help, tell him to do something dammit, thought Seth as he just stared around blankly, honestly quite unsure of what to do. All of his confidence that he had shown earlier had completely evaporated now that he's learned this isn't something he could handle with his own hands. It's making him feel at terrible unease knowing that there's really nothing he could do to make amends... Honestly, the fact that he wasn't being told what to do felt like he couldn't be trusted much anymore. It's a bit of a pang to him who just had it in his habit to always try and shoulder every problem all by himself. He was snapped back from cursing himself and partly Astaroth when the blue demon asked him for the whereabouts of a certain Leraje. Which, if he was to be honest... "...Who?" ...he wasn't quite sure who she's talking about. Then something clicked in his head, reeling back to the short moment before the odd shapeshifting demon escaped. "...Oh, the hooded one... She kept talking about her..." The young man said under his breath in realization, scratching the side of his head. "...I don't know, I haven't seen... this Leraje person since... uh. Since that shapeshifting lady got her hands on her," He's really not taking this too seriously is he? |

It was a great relief to hear that her plan wasn’t a complete long shot, and Sophia showed a rare smile to Astaroth. “Understood. I can’t contact them from the Netherworld though, so I’ll have to head back to Hyakuji first.” The smile faded from her features. How long would it take to get back to the Deep Woods from here…? Assuming the Netherworld was a mirror of Earth with the approximate same geography, they were effectively in the Middle East, which is far from Japan. Even if they flew on a dragon or something it’d take a while. If only Culsu was here to warp them back… Thinking about the crazy gate demon made Sophia remember something, and she took out the gemstone that Culsu had given them. “This… this will take us back right?” If memory serves correctly, it was their ticket home… and a way to transform them into a demon. The Valkyrie shuddered and banished the thought away. She didn’t want to use this power, but she didn’t have much of a choice. “How does it work Astaroth?” |

OOC Astaroth's face didn't change as she heard what happened to Leraje, but in her yellow eyes a sense of loss could be seen for an instant. Wind blew in their direction, and they could all feel the heated air coming from the fire. "We'll honor him by killing them all" she whispered to Seth. The blue demon then answered to Sophia. "It's simple, just take it in your hands and wish to use it to travel. It will take you to the last location you were on earth. I guess this will bring you back to your forest in Hyakuji. When you'll use it again, you'll be back here, in Derweze, the last location you were in the Netherworld." She paused a little. "As you can see it's powerful, but it can't carry you literally everywhere. Be careful when using it to save yourself. When you return, you are in the same place you were when you left." "What's going on here?" Heleth asked as she finally reached the group, with Aya and the unconscious Shirena beside her. "What's that fire?" she asked. Edited by Sota, May 31 2014, 09:28 AM.

Avenge him... He honestly couldn't say the same, having nearly no attachment to this Leraje person/demon at all, though he didn't say anything and just looked away, slightly perturbed by Astaroth's declaration of revenge by complete annihilation though not showing it in his expression. His eyes naturally being drawn to the burning pit and the disintegrating town around them. He's still preoccupied with the failed mission... ..."I'll stick around here a bit longer. You can go back to the school if you want," He said as he dispelled the swords in his hands, both of them shattering like glasses before dissipating into thin air. He's not going home yet, call it pride or guilty conscience (but most probably pride), but until they get the job done, he refuses to go back. Speaking of which, "We lost," The young man barked out to Heleth as she approached the group, not at all trying to hide the fact. In fact, he spoke it with quite the pride. ...Not the good kind, I mean, yeah he's ashamed they lost, but he's not going to be in denial about it. "I broke the fountain," |
