On an average day the park would be surprisingly quiet this late into the day. However that wasn't the case, Ricard fell to the ground and panted. He was surprised that this thing had managed to give him so much trouble so far. He clutched his rapier and looked up in time to see a fireball flying straight towards him, quickly rolling out of the way Ricard felt the heat brush past his face as he just dodged the fireball. He looked towards his opponent, trying to find a weak point of it, considering the form of the creature this was easier said then done. Creature Ricard was just on his way home when he came across this creature, normally he wasn't that big on engaging any random creature in combat but he felt like this thing was definitely up to trouble. He quickly learned that the creature was indeed up to trouble, at least when several fireballs flew towards him with no reason. The creature disappeared into the ground, Ricard quickly looked around waiting for his opponent to resurface. He had to be quick and precise otherwise he could end up getting burnt to ashes if he wasn't careful. The heat of his opponent began to appear behind him, quickly Ricard jumped back and turned around readying his blade. His opponent surfaced and began to look towards him with what Ricard assumed was his eyes. "This is ridiculous." Ricard smirked towards his opponent. "At least let me land a blow already." After he finished he dashed towards his opponent and pierced it with his blade, the creature didn't move or even make a noise. Ricard began to notice however the temperature of the nearby area began to rise, he quickly jumped away from the creature and as soon as he did a pillar of fire appeared around the creature. "Well, this is going to be difficult." Ricard spoke to himself, he had no idea how he would be able to handle this thing on his own. |

Bestanary note: Fire based creature, possible elemental with physical components? Harvesting may yeild some interesting results. Ranged use of fireballs suggests some type of inbuilt spellcraft, possible subject for inducing spells into flesh, unconscious magic? Samples may be difficult to impossible to find. To be honest Lenny should probably help the guy. He had come upon this burning scene after another of his hunting excursions. Immediately Lenny had jotted down some quick notes, he had never seen a beast with such obvious internalized spellcraft before and he was eager to either capture it or use it for sampling, but there was a problem. It was mostly made of fire, if there was anything Lenny and his haemonculi packs hated it was fire. Usually Lenny would just swarm the thing to death, bury it under a load of haemonculi and recover the biomass from the corpses, fire didn’t allow him to do that and that was a massive problem. He was considering not engaging at all, he stood a lot to gain, but saw no real way to win the fight. Currently he was sitting in a moderate wooded area near the combat, surrounded by a few large hunting haemonculi, mouths slicked with blood. Should he engage? Well, internalized spellcraft may lead to some interesting results He sent out a mental signal to his Phylactery, which could possibly solve the fire problem. But really he figured the best plan was to kind of wait it out, maybe the boy fighting it could kill it before the Phyalcerty came and Lenny could simply loot the corpse. |

More and more flames began to fly by Ricard's head, each missing him barely. If he kept this up as soon as he grew tired he would be nothing more then a smoking pile of ash. He had to think of something and quickly, but how could he beat something that didn't seem to get hurt by his blade. "This is ridiculous." Ricard spoke as he continued to think about how to defeat this thing. "How can i beat this thing?" He asked himself quietly whilst running through his mind various scenarios. He'd have to think of that later because the creature continued to throw blast after blast at him, Ricard began to run, after dodging several fire blasts he managed to get into close proximity of the creature and again tried to pierce it. "Foolish mortal, do you really think that can stop me." A low guttural voice echoed around the area. Whilst no mouth appeared on the demon it was clear to say that the noise was coming from it. "You will feel my rage, my anger, it will burn you until there is nothing left." With that a flames expelled outwards from the creature. Ricard jumped back but some flames clung to his clothing, he quickly patted himself off, only to realize that this time a stream of fire was coming his way. If Lenny was observing he would see the boy in between him and the creature and as he jumped out of the way a stream of fire flew towards him. |

That cheeky bast . . . Were his last thoughts before he leaped over to the side, dodging the burst of fire as one of his tiger like Hunter haemonculi blocked the attack with its own body. A searing smell of flesh was immediately present. The attack, unfortunately, cleared the brush and ignited some of it, forcing Lenny and his pack of four hunting haemonculi to immediately exit the hiding spot and reveal themselves. Lenny, while not exactly courageous, was more willing to fight than face fire. His first command was simple, he charged forward his Hunters, aiming to possibly damage the monster in some way. He hypothesized that the effort of searing a being as large as a Hunter haemonculi would use up too much of the creature’s energy and snuff it out, like how a large tarp over a fire can cause the fire to die rather than the tarp to burn. The already wounded haemonculi led the ferocious charge that was in a coordinated straight line, pointed directly at the fire beast. That way each haemonculi could only die one at a time. It was a gruesome and desperate tactic, but it would hopefully work, drowning and snuffing out the fire under the combined mass and flesh of his own creations. From a more distant patch of wood a low guttural roar could be heard, chittering like a cicada but bellowing like an elephant, his Phylactery had arrived. Like a vengeful avatar it arrived to assist. Armored in black chitin it rested on eight black, pointed pillars that swiftly moved, pulling up the earth where they walked. It’s body was more than eight feet in the air, a bulbous body that was reminiscent of a spider. It’s head was crowned like some kind of prehistoric creature and its lower jaw ended in a mass of tentacles dripping with venom that dripped from its massive, sword blade teeth. It’s hindquarters exploded into a massive outgrowth of thick tentacles like anacondas, ending in strange hands with nails like knives. It was clearly vengeful, and emerged with an intent to bring death. For now it merely moved on it’s agile legs, weighted with force on every step , towards the battlefield. For now, as per Lenny’s mental commands, it would wait on his gambit before engaging directly, through its chitin and exoskeleton would provide it protection from the heat that mere flesh could not. Phylactery Sketch (kind of big)

Ricard stared dumbfounded as a boy and several creatures jumped out of the bushes behind him, he definitely wasn't expecting that someone else was nearby. The addition of strange creatures with the boy was just the icing on the strange cake in this situation. Still though, in this situation it seemed like he got an ally in this fight at least considering that his hiding place was currently on fire. The beast jumped towards the creature and tried to smother it, which might have worked if the creature was normal fire, unfortunately thought all that ended up happening was the beast that had jumped onto it began to get burnt. The creature however simply moved underground and away from the beast before surfacing up at a different area. "Ha, you mortals don't even have the honor of engaging me one at a time." The demon growled towards his opponents. He shot off several fireballs towards the newcomer with the intent to sear the flesh from his bones. Ricard was quick to act though, he dashed towards the boy and bought his blade up cutting two of the fireballs making them veer off from the target. However one more fireball was still flying towards Lenny with the intent to burn him. If he didn't do anything to stop it then he would get horribly burnt. |

As Lenny tried to move to a better position he noted that the attack protocols weren’t quite working. As he felt the psychic death cry of his wounded haemonculi he noted that the creature’s fire showed no sign of quenching, unfortunate as another one of his Hunters was wounded in the fire before they were able to maneuver to retreat before the creature fell back into the ground. Supernatural fire, seems to ignore the need for air to function. I need a magical counter then, which I don’t even have he was weighing tactical counters as the creature stayed underground and found no easy answers. The beast popped up a little to close to him before bellowing out its challenge. The burst of the fire was fortunately diverted by the swordsman, while the half heading towards Lenny was body blocked by the newly wounded Hunter haemonculi, which died saving its master. Lenny didn’t really make an effort to dodge the fire, he knew his haemonculi were coordinated enough to use their bodies as shields. He looked at the sword wielder in front of him, more deep in thought than anything, there was a puzzle here, but he needed a solution. His Phylactery decided to commit to the fight then, charging it’s massive, semi-truck sized body into the flame deamon. The beast was covered with chitin so its body should be safe as it charged through the flaming mass of the demon, the hypothesis was as thus, since it wasn’t snuffed out its body might lack a solid portion. If the large mass of the Phylactery charged through the flame beast with high momentum it may disrupt the gaseous form of demon enough to cause it to split apart or weaken since the flames of its body would be forced far from its ‘core’. Hopefully if the flames were too far from the core they would cool and make the flames of the creatures body smaller. Honestly it was too scientific to really be a strategy. Lenny’s calculations as he looked on the swordsman’s outline. If the creature did have a solid mass the Phylactery would knock that mass over, wounding it. The Phylactery’s charge would have it leave the creature’s body and head directly towards Lenny, where his two Hunter haemonculi were waiting, ready to act as living shields. |

The large beast had a lot more success then the smaller one did, it charged straight through the creature just before it attempted to get out of the way. The flames of it's arm separated from it's body and slowly fizzled out into nothingness. It seemed that separating the body from the central mass was a more successful tactic then just piercing it or trying to smother it. The creature roared in what one could assume was pain. "HOW DARE YOU HURT ME, YOU ARE MORTALS, FIT FOR NOTHING MORE THEN TO HAVE YOUR SOULS DEVOURED." The voice echoed loudly, as it happened the creature released multiples fireballs firing from all around it, it was almost a rain of fire emanating from the creature. Wielding his blade Ricard continued to cut the blasts that flew towards him. "If you have any good ideas now would be a grand time." He shouted back towards his current ally in this fight. He was growing tired and whilst he still had a trick up his sleeve he didn't want to have to use it against this creature. If it came to that he would use it though, god knows that the creature had given him enough trouble already. |

Lenny noted that the Phylactery’s charge was successful, as it emerged from the flames it placed itself between the fire beast and Lenny. He was glad to see the fire had done no major damage, fire made Lenny’s healing abilities difficult to use and he would greatly dislike his masterpiece getting damaged. Lenny observed the swordsman’s blade was keeping all of them protected. His sword was definitely unusual, fire didn’t split like the normally. The blade or the man wielding it must have some special properties. If he could split fire with his sword they had a chance. Lenny pointed to his beast as his ally questioned him. “Let this lead the charge and take the fire for you. When you get close I’m going to get the creature blocking the shots to lift you into the air. Try to separate the creature’s eyes, and it's kind of nubby head from the rest of it. The beast will grab you again before you hit the ground” Because the time was urgent Lenny had his Phylactery charge forward without hearing a response, it was an exercise in trust. As the beast moved forward Ricard would see a mass of long and thick tendrils coming out of the Phylactery’s back. If he followed the tendrils would grab Ricard and toss him at the creature’s head just before the Phylacty’s moment of impact. |

Ricard nodded and run following after the beast, when he was grabbed by the tendrils he had a moment of doubt but put that aside. This seemed to be the best opportunity to defeat the creature without having to exhaust his full capabilities. As Ricard was tossed he readied his blade and quickly made several slashes around the head of the creature, by itself this didn't do much except make several gaps between its head and its body. A moment later however the phylactery charged through the creature pushing the body away from the rest of the head. The body began to evaporate into nothingness as a pained scream could be heard. "NOT YET, NOT YET!!!!." Slowly the creature's head vanished as well. The Phylactery's tendrils didn't end up reaching Ricard to recapture him in time but he managed to land reasonably safely, quickly discarding his blade and tumbling to soften his fall. He stood back up and dusted off his clothing before turning to face the other boy in control of all of these creatures. Now that he had a good look at them they seemed a bit grotesque, however the boy had helped him so he couldn't judge him from that. "Thanks for that, I don't know what I would've done without some help." Ricard looked around the area, it was starting to get quite smokey due to the flames that had been fired out. He was surprised the whole area wasn't up in flames. "Quite impressive creatures you have there." Ricard pointed at them. "Can't say i've seen something like them before." If there wasn't still smoke and dust on Ricards clothing then one would assume he hadn't even been in a fight due to his demeanor. |

A surprised half grin graced Lenny’s face. In all honesty he had expected the attack to fail, he was unfamiliar with how one exactly killed gaseous beings. But as the creature visibly evaporated his smile disappeared. He severely hated being robbed of his corpse, that was half the reason he had stayed to fight this thing in the first place. “Yes, whatever that was I doubt either of us could have taken it on our own. A shame it left no remains, studying what was left over would have been . . . enlightening” His sentence was tinged with disappointment as his two Hunter haemonculi went to go consume the usable biomass from their fallen brethren. “They are associates of mine” The Phylactery appeared at his side and Lenny absentmindedly stroked the tentacles on the creature’s lower jaws, almost as if it were a familiar dog. “Though I must admit that you should probably attribute most of the thanks to this one here” The creature’s eight eyes, green and gleaming, looked towards Ricard. “And I must admit that your skill with the blade is exceptional. And that blade is . . . magical, isn’t it. I’ve never seen fire split like that” |

Ricard smiled at the boy in front of him petting his minion or whatever it was. He always wondered how it would be to have summoning magic and have familiars at his whim but making others fight for him was out of the question. The boy's thought process was pretty spot on as well, not many people would notice the unusual qualities of his blade. Ricard was actually a bit surprised that he was asked about it, he didn't really have any reason to hide information regarding it. Nothing much would be changed if people knew and besides hiding information wasn't honorable. "It isn't magic per say, the way it was made is." Ricard spoke as he was trying to figure out how to explain it. "When it was being forged part of my life essence was used it has gotten some interesting properties from that." Ricard said as he held his hand out and the blade materialized in it. "For instance as demonstrated regardless of the situation I can call my blade to my hands." Ricard lowered his blade lest the creatures take it as a threat to their master. Looking towards the two haemonculi that went to consume their fallen comrade Ricard flinched. It seemed a bit disrespectful to the dead but it was the boy's familiar, however it was still something that went against his own honor. He had to restrain himself from commenting on it. "I wouldn't have minded having a look over it myself. I havn't been here long but I havn't seen that kind of thing before, especially not this far into the city." Ricard commented as he walked over to where the creature was, apart from a small circle of ash where the body was prior to it's death nothing was there. "Don't suppose you are versed in things of this nature by any chance?" Ricard spoke as he put his hand down and touched some of the ashes. |

Lenny visibly stiffened when Ricard spoke of his life essence being imparted into the blade. Another Phylactery?! The creature Lenny stroked now was a Phylactery as well, though it contained an element of Lenny’s mind and his soul. Lenny had done the binding himself, a difficult task, but he was intrigued to know who had performed such a task for Ricard. He turned and looked as the blade materialized. As Ricard balked at the cannibalism of Lenny’s minions the Artisan himself picked up a small, armadillo like haemonculi off the ground and placed it on his shoulder. As the creature’s familiar night vision took the place of Lenny’s own sight he noted Ricard’s bright orange hair and his orange eyes, No way that’s natural, a side effect of the binding? Lenny’s senses were crystal clear due to the recent attack, he was as observant as ever. Lenny stood by Ricard’s side near the ashes. “I’m a student of cryptozoology, so I have some level of knowledge of these things. Though by its appearance and body I would say this was something magical, an elemental, possibly a summon. It had more of magic in it than flesh” he repeated this as if he were reporting on it. While others saw the monsters of Hyakuji as things to be avoided or slain Lenny had always seen them as subjects of study. At first so he could further his powers, later because of a genuine interest. He looked to Ricard, snapping out of reciting and reporting. “Though the appearance of this here, as long as you didn’t draw it out, is a bad sign. I’m familiar with the woods and the beasts there. Something like this could have come from two places. Either it was summoned by magic, the sign of some assailant, or there is something more dangerous in the woods. Beasts of this caliber tend not to leave the woods unless something is forcing them out, and a sentient beast would know well enough that contact with humans is death” He sounded more curious and puzzled than worried. He was no great sage, but he would suppose that he knew more about the woods and its beasts than anyone else in the area. He looked to Ricard, wondering what a swordsman would think. |

"I'd wager you are quite right." Ricard stood up and turned around to face the other boy. "It does seem that there was a reason behind it coming so far into Hyakuji." There wasn't really a chance for a creature to have suddenly appeared in the middle of Hyakuji meant almost certain death. Especially when one considered just how many students went out of their way to play the hero and vanquish the big evil demon. "This could potentially be troublesome." Ricard paced back and forth before bringing his hands to cover his eyes and thought for a moment about what his next step would have to be. It seemed like the best choice would be to go and explore the forest, see if there were any other creatures that would've forced the being out. He lowered his hand and turned around back to the boy smiling. "On the plus side at least we've dealt with this one." Ricard said gesturing to the ashes. If something that deadly was forced out or summoned then they had a much bigger problem in the form of whatever it was that made the creature come to Hyakuji. Come to think of it Ricard wondered why most of the park wasn't aflame right now. Maybe it just was a case of the flames being intrinsically connected to the park. "You do know a lot though, I assume it is due to those creatures under your control, i'm not entirely sure but it is quite apparent both that and the demon are in the realms of magic." Ricard spoke to the boy. "I know some magic myself but I couldn't have given such an in depth hypothesis about the situation, i'm impressed actually." Ricard grinned towards the boy, this was also a bit of information gathering. He wanted to know whether or not these creatures were dangerous, whilst he wouldn't want to do something dishonorable he did want some prior warning about those creatures. |

“Yes, this creature does suggest a larger problem and . . . I expect we will find difficulties if we try to pursue” He agreed with Ricard on these points. Lenny was an experienced hunter and knew that beasts of overtly magical formation were difficult to kill. If they were to hunt they would need more magical armaments most likely. “Though you are partially right about my allies. I’ve learned a fair deal from them, though they are of flesh and blood, aberrations of course, strange beasts but with no magic within them as far as I can tell” It was a part truth, spoken certainly and informatively though much about the beasts was left out. “The creatures body was magical, that was sure. The fire it was made of didn’t need oxygen or fuel” He looked back to where the two Hunter haemonculi were eating the charred body of their comrade. “Though I wonder what you expect to do about it?” He decided to thrust straight to the issue. |

"Well, probably go and investigate more into this in the not to distant future." Ricard answered the boy's question. "It would be dishonorable to walk away from this issue and potentially let more creatures assault people in the town." His curiosity about the boy's creations were satiated, they didn't seem like they wouldn't be anything dangerous unless the boy commanded them to do something first. That suited Ricard well enough, whilst he wasn't sure if the boy was a good person or not by now he at least knew he wouldn't have to keep an eye on his creatures. The boy also helped him in the fight so he couldn't really complain about him. "I trust that isn't a problem." Ricard spoke narrowing his eyes towards the boy, it was a bit unusual that he was following through to ask what his next choice of action would be. He began to wonder whether the other boy had a stake in this whole scenario. He wouldn't voice his doubts yet but he would keep on edge around the boy, at least until he could be proved trustworthy. |
