The strongest man could shrug off the worst of injuries. The strongest man could fight off an army by himself. The strongest man could even cheat death if he wanted to. But not even the strongest man is safe from the agonizing pain inflicted to his heart by the scathing words from a woman. A bit excessive but it pretty accurately depicted Seth's situation the moment Amane lashed out with her words. An invisible pain unseen by anyone but Seth himself, the young man could utter not even a single word after what had been thrown at him in less than a few seconds. So this girl in the kimono is Amane. The very Student Council President of Hyakuji High Amane. Yuki is apparently hosting a mock wedding here to get people to visit the shrine. They're both miko. Even in a mock wedding, Amane would rather marry another girl than to even get anywhere near him. Lavender and Jen are here. Some other girl too, though he couldn't actually remember her name. It kinda hurts actually. "...A-ah... no I'm... my arm's fine! Don't be... silly...!" He replied to the girl in what is clearly a forced grin. Oh look, more people are coming over, looks like their plan is working just fine after all. "W-well, I wish you two luck on your marriage then...!" He added, accompanied by a very stiff wave of his arm to the two... brides, he supposed. Though, he really didn't waste any time as he immediately turned around, "I have- erm... I have some work to be done, s-so... I'll see you guys later!" and marched purposefully towards the exit of the shrine, eager to get away from that place as fast as his somewhat numb legs could get him. Really Amane... did she really have to yell that out so loud in front of everyone...? Then again it's not like she cares, does she... The more silly question is why does he? Goddammit... |

“Ah, S-Seth-kun..!” That was odd. He took the time to show up at the shrine, but then suddenly he had to leave. She had to admit that he did look a bit hurt, and it would be silly to deny that Amane’s words were rather caustic. Even though it wasn’t a real wedding, it would have been nice if her friends attended to support the cause. Although she supposed she couldn’t blame him for not wanting to stick around if Amane really did feel that strongly about him. Not that Seth was known for wearing his heart on his sleeve and being easily affected by such things. Where was the non-caring shrug? She’d seen THAT move plenty of times, that was for sure. But…but he knew her longer! Didn’t he care about her? Oh well. She would drive herself crazy trying to figure out what went on inside that boy’s brain. She knew him long enough to know that for a fact. Yuki let out a resigned sigh and glanced back at Amane. No use brooding over it, might as well get on with things. Nearly showtime. Ooh! Speaking of, time to pick a dress~ The stage was set and people were directed to take their seats (at least as many people as could do so, there was quite the crowd). Apparently the social media blast caught like wild fire, and via retweets and reposting, the net was cast and the interest was apparent. But who wouldn’t want to be part of history (even if it wasn’t technically a real wedding). The music began to flow out from a rudimentary sound system that had been constructed since they didn’t have time to book an actual band or wheel a full-on piano out into the courtyard. The crowd began to hush, knowing that the ceremony was starting to get underway. Yuki stood at the beginning of the aisle, and was preceded by two other miko who walked down before her (scared into their participation through the wrath of Amane). Before making her own procession, she spotted the occasional friend or classmate whose attention she caught and gave a somewhat hidden, excited wave and beaming smile. She by no means considered this a legitimate wedding. In the grand scheme, she was just thrilled to wear a fancy wedding dress, do her hair, and wear a veil (since how many opportunities did one get to wear a veil?). Yuki tried not to consider whether or not this would be the last time she ever got to wear an actual wedding dress. Once the other miko took their positions at the front, she made her way slowly down the aisle holding the small bouquet of flowers. Amane really did outdo herself, going well above the call of duty for this little fundraising event. Hopefully returning all of the surplus dresses and rings wouldn’t be a problem. It was slightly overwhelming that so many people were in attendance, but it also overjoyed her at the thought of how much help the shrine would receive. Before reaching the altar she spotted Jen and Selene, giving them a big grin and a wink without losing too much of her composure. She was putting on a show, after all. She handed off her bouquet to one of the miko “bridesmaids” and waited for her “bride” to arrive! |

"Ah... if you say so..." Misora remarked as she watched Seth leave, the half-zombie waving him goodbye. A roar followed by the flapping of wings signaled Selene's arrival as the corporate heiress arrived at the shrine, on the back of a Wyvern, with the beast landing just outside the shrine's gateway and lying down so that the corporate heiress would get off from its back, before dismissing her summoned guardian with a wave of her hand; the pumpkin-haired girl's dramatic entrance eliciting much excited chatters from the growing crowd of visitors to the event, wondering if the whole thing was part of the itinerary. "Hey Selene-san, glad to see you could make it!" Jen exclaimed with much excitement as she jumped out of her seat to usher Selene over to a seat that she and Lavender had managed to "reserve" for the corporate heiress. "What's with the flashy intro though?" Lavender wondered as Selene sat down, next to Jen, who was basically between Selene and Lavender. "I think they seemed to like this and think it's part of the show though," the aeromancer remarked as she gestured towards members of the crowd, who seemed to approve for the most part. "Well, I'm not about to let something like a congested downtown street hold me up! Just doing my part for my best friend," Selene replied with a chuckle. Even if it was nothing more than a mock-up the corporate heiress wasn't going to miss it to support her friend; donations to the shrine aside, what counted more than the financial support would be the moral and emotional support by being there for her. "That's... splendid!" Selene exclaimed as Yuki showed up in a wedding gown for the event, and an absolutely gorgeous one at that! As her miko friend acknowledged the corporate heiress and Jen, the girls - along with Lavender would momentarily rise to their feet to respond with an approving smile and thumbs-ups. "And done..." Lavender remarked as she held up her Galaxy Note 3 to take a snapshot of Yuki in her bride outfit just when she was winking at the two younger girls. "I'll post the pics up on my social media for all your viewing pleasure," the aeromancer mused. "I spotted Seth-kun on my way here though, why did he leave?" Selene asked. "Beats me, though if I must hazard a guess... might be something to do between him and that student council girl, that would be Amane-san, I think?" Jen replied, recalling that she'd seen Amane on and off during the student council meetings, "But that's still rather harsh of him towards Yuki-chan, man..." the purple-haired girl figured that Selene and Yuki were probably going to have some words with Seth after that, but for now she would just sit quietly and observe the proper accordance of respect (even if merely a pretend wedding) for the ceremony that was about to take place. |

Kuh... the heck was that for, even for her that was unnecessarily rude...! Even if he wanted to at least stick around for Yuki he was a bit too miffed to really want to stay. To think he actually thought she was attractive... ha! ...He's feeling really stupid now, why did that bother him so much anyway...? Halfway down the staircase he was actually having second thought, pausing and glancing back up at the shrine, partly because getting that mad over marriage choice felt silly now, partly because he really probably should at least stay for Yuki, and partly because he thought he saw Selene passing by. ...Cha, who cares, they've already gotten that many people anyway so there's no point in him staying around if they're just doing it to raise money for the shrine. Plus if he sticks around he'll probably annoy Miss President way more with just his face to ruin the whole event anyway. Maybe it's just him being too grumpy and pessimistic but who could really say it wouldn't happen? "Oi? Where are you going, isn't it just starting?" ...Eh? Youma what- ...oh, she got the mess- "Ooh wait, you got the message too?" Yep, she got the message too, and she's proving it by showing it off on her phone. "Where are you going, it says it's starting now!" ...Actually, he wanted to just say he's not going to attend, but could he really mention it was because Amane said she'd rather marry a girl than hi- "Come on, let's get going! I hope they've got food too!" "O-oi, no, wait! Don't I don't- no wannaaa!!" And without further ado he was being forcibly dragged back up the staircase by the half-phantom's surprising strength. Just don't end up strangling him. |

Unfortunately for Seth, it looked as if he was never going to get used to Amane's distant personality, and habit of losing her temper. Even more unfortunate for Seth was that it didn't look as if Amane was ever going to change. In fact, the opposite was more likely to happen, and probably was happening. Of course, today Amane was even more irritable than usual which didn't help Seth's case at all. Since Amane was already more or less prepared for the wedding, while she was waiting for Yuki, she spent the majority of the time organising the other shrine maidens which involved a lot of shouting and anger, and probably had them all praying that if Amane ever had a real wedding, she would have it at another shrine. Finally, the time came for the ceremony to actually start. Fortunately for Amane, Yuki was the first to take the walk down the aisle, giving Amane time for some quick breathing exercises to calm herself down. Unlike Yuki, who was enjoying herself, and taking this event as a normal person should, Amane was more nervous than most people on their real wedding. She could hardly breath, and despite being winter, she felt as if she was standing in the middle of a desert she was that hot. When it was Amane's turn, unlike the shrine maidens that accompanied Yuki, the shrine maidens that accompanied Amane were almost as nervous as Amane was. The two shrine maiden walked besides Amane as she stepped into the public stage, almost freezing when she saw the sheer number of people who turned up. Her heart was ready to burst out of her chest. It was actually amazing Amane managed to continue walking, although her movements were rigid. Unlike Yuki, Amane didn't have a big grin. Then again, Amane never had a grin, so it would have been more unusual if she did. Instead, Amane just had a bright red face that gave away how nervous she was. Amane did somehow find the will to take a brief look at the audience, and needless to say, Seth and Jen stood out seeing as they were both part of the Student Council. It also appeared that Weiss was in the crowd which didn't make Amane feel any better. "Hi Amane." God dammit, Weiss. At least for a moment, Amane looked more annoyed than nervous, although Amane soon forgot about Weiss when she came face to face with Yuki. While Amane was used to dealing with her on a daily basis, seeing her in the wedding dress made it difficult for Amane to even look at her properly. It was a good thing Yuki was taking the role of the "husband" seeing as Amane was nervous to the point of barely being able to look at Yuki, nevermind lead the ceremony. |

When Amane finally decided to start making her way down the aisle, Yuki couldn’t help but beam. It was pretty much a gamble as to whether or not Amane was going to show up in the end, but she held it together and pulled through. Just as well since she had already spent an arm and a leg on everything for the wedding. Part of Yuki wondered if, after going through so much trouble, this might actually end up being a real wedding? Yikes. That thought made her a little nervous. She supposed she’d have to do a lot of post-demonstration praying to get back on the good side of some of the more traditional spirits and kami. Which was likely to be mostly all of them. But she was doing it for a good cause, like saving their home on earth! Once Amane joined her up on the stage she noticed that the girl looked to be doing anything but well. And if it was plain as day to Yuki, chances were good that the rest of the audience would be able to tell as well. Some people would probably find it endearing, but bottom line, she didn’t want Amane to get overwhelmed and pass out on stage. It wouldn’t be the best to turn all of this press into bad publicity. Yuki reached out a hand and lightly squeezed Amane’s with a reassuring smile, trying to keep her focused and to get her to relax. Getting to dress up and put on a show was supposed to be fun, so she wanted to do her best to help Amane with that (even if “fun” didn’t seem to be in her vocabulary). “You’re doing great, Amane-san! Just pretend the people aren’t there. And keep thinking of how much this will help the shrine!” she whispered quietly. She finished with a “you can do this” nod and released her hand, then turned to their “officiant,” who was actually another miko pretending to be the shinshoku. The shrine’s resident shinshoku refused to do the ceremony, citing something about sacrilege and a moral compass (Yuki kind of stopped listening after the initial “no”). So naturally, another member of the staff was informed to step in. Given that their dress was both western and traditional, Yuki thought it would be appropriate to mash-up the ceremonies as well (and it would excuse any “inaccuracies”). “Everyone, thank you for coming to Hyakuji shrine to witness the, er…figurative marriage of Shinomiya Amane to Tsukiyoru Yuki. We are honored that you have decided to partake in our humble ceremony.” The miko then proceeded to do a mock purification of the “couple,” improvising a bit since they’d agreed it was probably blasphemous to do the roles of the shinshoku verbatim. She then moved on to say a few things about love and marriage, reading from the ceremonial book in her hands. Afterward, the two would be led to a small table by one of the auxiliary miko, where three cups were stacked. The miko took a bottle and poured a clear liquid into the cup, presenting it to Yuki. She knew this part to be the sansankudo, so she raised the cup to her lips and took the first of three sips— And nearly choked. What was that, gasoline?? Yuki abruptly raised a hand to her mouth to keep herself from instinctively sputtering the drink all over Amane, leaning over to the other miko for some clarification. “I thought this was going to be water?” “I’m sorry! When you said it was for a wedding I thought you were mistaken so I grabbed the sake!” the girl replied in a worried whisper. “And isn’t that a bit of a big pour…” “I don’t know, Natsu-chan usually does the sake!” The “shinshoku” Natsu gave the group of three a tiny shrug, as if seeming to say that her reassignment of duties couldn’t be helped, but also signed for them to keep moving things along. Yuki faltered for a minute, giving the crowd a sideways glance. She couldn’t just quit right in the middle. It would be fine, right? “Nevermind, too late now.” She gave a small courtesy wave to the crowd to show that everything was fine, and finished the remaining two sips. Oh man, this stuff was terrible. Who would ever drink that willingly? Yuki passed the cup to Amane, for whom it would be refilled by the third girl. After that Amane would start with the second cup and repeat the process. Alright. It’s fine. Just two more cups to go. No big deal! Famous last words. |

[I am sorry for taking sooo long! I promise it won't happen again!] The good news was that Amane wasn't about to pass out. The bad news was that Yuki squeezing her hand only made her more nervous than she actually was. Yuki would have have felt Amane's hand trembling, and unlike the typical Amane, she was too nervous to even pull her hand away which was what she would have probably done under any other situation. Despite only being a moment, Amane turned even redder than she already was. She would practically have to burst into flames to get any more flushed at this point. Amane didn't even know where to look. If she looked at Yuki, she only got more nervous, but at the same time it was rude not to look! You're supposed to keep your eyes on the person you're marrying at a wedding, right!? Amane did try to give a reply, but her mouth wouldn't open. Instead, she just silently nodded her head, and did her best to keep her eyes on Yuki, after all, that is what you're supposed to do for a wedding, right!? Well, fortunately for Amane, Yuki was under the impression it was the number of people present that had her so nervous. In reality, Amane was more nervous about where she should be looking. Apparently Amane wasn't going to let the fact that is was supposed to be a fake wedding get in the way of how serious she was going to take it. If Amane was going to get fake married, she was going to take it seriously! Poor Yuki. She probably has no idea how serious Amane is about things. Well, if it was any comfort to either Yuki or Amane, at least there was nothing in Shintoism that said one shrine maiden cannot marry another shrine maiden, so they aren't actually doing anything against the religion... Unfortunately for the shrine maiden performing the rituals, despite her nervousness, Amane did somehow manage to give a glare that practically said "Doing the rituals wrong is even more blasphemous! Just you wait for this ceremony to finish!" Although, it honestly was begging the question on how Amane managed to bring herself to overlook the fact that Yuki was wearing a western wedding dress. Somehow Amane managed to miss the entire Yuki is choking on real sake, and had a small discussion with the shrine maiden. She was far too busy putting too much effort into keeping her eyes in Yuki's general direction. Once Yuki had her cup, Amane was brought out from the realms of Where should I look and back to the real world. She was actually glad to see alcohol, since it seemed like the ideal solution to Amane's nervousness, but she soon realised that she was sharing a cup with Yuki. While to most people, this wasn't actually that odd, Amane was the type of person who wouldn't share her phone number with most people, nevermind a cup. Through overwhelming force of will, Amane did somehow manage to (rigidly) reach for the cup as the third shrine maiden filled the cup. It took a lot of willpower to do, but Amane did somehow manage to push the thought of sharing a cup to the back of her mind. Once the cup was filled, Amane's first reaction was... "...This is not enough..." It was hard to tell if Amane meant it was not enough for a cup, or if it was not enough for her... Amane was actually strong for alcohol thanks to a certain someone, so it was hard to tell if the shrine maiden tried putting less in after Yuki complained, or if Amane was just that used to Sake... In a complete contrast to Yuki's drinking, Amane took her three sips rather quickly... In fact, she may have well just been drinking water. So much for worrying about sharing a cup. Unfortunately for Amane, she didn't feel any less nervous. Maybe it was still too soon to judge, but her movements were still as rigid as ever, and the fact she didn't spill any Sake from her hand trembling was a miracle in itself. Fortunately for Yuki, the cup was empty when Amane was passing it back, so there was no risk of Amane's trembling spilling anything then... Although, the thought did suddenly cross Amane's mind whether or not Yuki would actually be fine with Sake. She didn't seem to be the type who would have much experience with it... Of course, those thoughts were pushed out of her mind when she suddenly realised she would have to watch Yuki drink, and the whole dilemma of where to look returned... |
