It was January, a few weeks into the New Year. It was the time of year when many would come to the shrine to give their respects on the New Year, and it was also the time of year when many came to do a particular fortune.

Omikuji!

Fortunately for Hyakuji's shrine (or rather, unfortunately considering it's actually me...), all of the Omikuji done at Hyakuji Shrine have all been personally designed and handwritten by Amane Shinomiya! Which more or less is proof that Amane is a workaholic considering she would need to write several hundred copies...

That is probably why Amane's handwriting is so different from last year. Your handwriting would also be different if you wrote thousands upon thousands of Omikuji...

Amane should really just use one of the scanners and printers at GENCOM. Hell, even the Student Council room has a scanner and printer.

Well enough of Amane, and her worrying workaholic behaviour.

Amane, as she would normally, was dressed in her shrine maiden robes at the Hyakuji Shrine. Today she was attending the Omikuji counter, which also happened to sell various charms, wards, ema, and shrine goods that could be taken back as souvenirs such as pens and pencils. Some of the pencils even had a charm on them, for example, one for passing an exam, and such.

It was a Saturday morning, and the shrine was unusually busy, although given that it was January, and soon after the New Year, that wasn't particularly unexpected. The shrine was a lot more busy during January, after all. Needless to say, it was far from warm, and in fact, was probably colder than most other years around this time. It wouldn't have been much of a surprise if it started snowing. Despite the cold, Amane seemed to be diligently doing her job, seemingly unaffected by the cold, although that was probably just her workaholic spirit keeping her going.

Yuki stumbled up the steps to the shrine, balancing a comical number of packages in her arms and trying not to nosedive into the pavement. One wrong step and there would be boxes everywhere, and she could stand to be spared the embarrassment.

This momentous occasion marked her first time back at the shrine since her return to Hyakuji. She felt mildly nostalgic, but at the same time it felt like she’d never left. The great thing about shrines was their sense of tradition, and as such little to nothing had changed about the shrine. Even the snow seemed to have waited for her to return before melting (though that was obviously not the case).

Her fellow miko, Amane, had requested that she pick up some more green tea to restock the shrine. And when we say “requested,” we mean made sure Yuki realized it was in her best interest to follow through, lest she suffer the consequences. Not that she minded, it seemed the two of them were always at the shrine anyway, and she enjoyed helping out. But for some reason it seemed like the inventory runs were always for obscene amounts of stuff, all at once. Apparently it was “easier” to order more stuff, less often. Tell that to the girl having to carry it all.

And bringing in the new supplies while trying to be courteous to the visitors was another challenge. She felt obligated to greet them as she passed, but each bow or nod meant a dangerous near-topple of her precious cargo.

Over 10000 yen’s worth of precious cargo, to be exact.

Peering past the tower of small boxes she spotted the other girl standing rigid and proper behind the stand selling this year’s souvenirs and charms. Just to make sure she didn’t get unwarranted chastising, she’d taken the liberty of donning her miko outfit before arriving. And man, that loose-fitting outfit was COLD in the winter.

Yuki broke out into a broad grin once she was within greeting distance.

“Amane-san~! Good to see youuu—oooOOH!”

A child decided that the place to push his toy car across the ground was right were Yuki was stepping, and in slapstick cartoon fashion she stumbled forward, juggling the boxes in her arms. Onlookers gasped, cringing as the packages bounced up into the air.

And were, through one miracle or another, caught. Though a number were under her chin, some clutched to her body, others resting precariously on top of her body, and one balancing on top of her outstretched foot.

She paused in the silence, a frozen look of panic on her face. Then the boy with the car broke out into applause. Everyone else went about their business, inwardly disappointed that they didn’t get to witness a total catastrophe. Not even ONE person offering to help? Those jerks. She awkwardly recovered and shimmied up to the building, taking a side entrance and promptly dumping the boxes inside and wiping her brow.

“Aiyaaaa…so much tea…”

Unfortunately for Yuki, Amane did tend to buy things in bulk. Even force is that Amane tended to overdo things, and buy far more than was actually necessary... Like stocking up six months worth when you already have three months worth still... Of course, you could never be too careful, or at last, in Amane's books, you can't. If it was down to Amane, the shrine would have had hundreds of years worth of tea supplies, however unfortunately for Amane, and perhaps fortunately for the shrine and Yuki, there really wasn't enough room to store centuries worth of tea.

But there was enough space for six months worth of green tea, which is why Yuki was made to buy it!

...All at once!

Amane, you really should learn to become more patient...

Although, Yuki should probably keep quiet that this is her first visit to the shrine since she came back from France... Amane wouldn't be too pleased to hear that it wasn't the very first location Yuki decided to visit... Then again, it probably didn't matter, Amane was never happy anyway, so she would more than likely find something else to moan about even if Yuki had visited the shrine.

This was probably why Amane was best friends with Weiss. Weiss made it so easy for Amane to moan, she didn't need to find reasons to moan!

Of course, Amane's concentration on the shrine stall was redirected to Yuki, who greeted Amane.

However... Before Amane could even return her greeting, she almost tripped with the mountain of green tea. The look of pain that crossed Amane's face made it difficult to tell what she was worried about the most. Was she worried about Yuki? The green tea? Yuki's shrine maiden robes? The dignity of the shrine maidens? The old man behind Yuki who was walking extremely slowly?

Wait, that last one had nothing to do with Yuki!

In order to prevent any more near disasters, Amane called over another of the shrine maidens, requesting her to take Amane's place while she attended to Yuki. Amane then immediately went to where Yuki was, seeing that she had managed to bring the green tea with no further problems. A look of relief was actually visible in Amane's always serious expression. Looks like the shrine would finally have their six months worth of green tea after all!

"You should exercise more caution, you had me worried."

The perfect way to greet someone after a long trip. Despite meeting people everyday, Amane is as terrible as always at being social. At least she was concerned for Yuki.

"Please excuse my sudden request, I had heard from another shrine maiden that you had returned from your trip to France. Since you were most going to be on your way to the shrine anyway, I thought it wouldn't be too much of a problem."

As Amane spoke, she handed Yuki an envelope filled with money. It was money for the tea, and some additional pocket money. It was probably actually twice what the tea actually cost in that envelop though...

"Allow me to formally welcome you back. I trust your trip to France went well? It has been a long time since we have had a chance to speak again, Tsukiyoru Yuki. I trust you have been well, and taking care of yourself."

Shouldn't you have started off by saying that!?

Worried? Did Amane just say she was worried?

Yuki was fairly certain this may have been a turning point in their relationship. It was rare for the girl to express much of anything toward someone, let alone concern for their well-being. She was sure the girl meant well and wasn’t totally uncaring, but she was certainly hard to read at times. Unless the expressed emotion was dislike or something similar.

Oh, wait. She was probably worried about the tea.

Well, that made more sense.

Sad face.

“A problem? Oh, no! Not at all! I’m always happy to help,”
she beamed. She did like how the shrine kept her busy, and was really the only tie back to her family and their traditions. And with Amane around, there was no shortage of things to do.

“Thank you so much! It was really wonderful! Gave me a chance to work on some things and…well…I think it did what it needed to. I’m sorry I didn’t contact you more, I know you’re often busy. And sorry I couldn’t make it down for New Year’s…the plane tickets are rather expensive for more than one trip,”
she explained, awkwardly shuffling her feet. New Year’s at the shrine was pretty important, and for her to miss it might as well have been like handing in her resignation. But that being said, the fireworks in Paris were pretty much mind-blowing.

“Aiya, Amane-san. You can just call me Yuki! We are friends, after all!”
Without much thought she hopped forward and gave the girl a hug, also giving at least one anonymous onlooker with a very specific miko-related fetish a nosebleed. The hug was done almost as quickly as it had been initiated.

“Now then…customers are looking a bit sparse…”
she noted, seeing that no one was checking out the omikuji that Amane had worked so hard on. She stepped out in front of the merchandise and raised her voice like one of those girls trying to promote a store and its products. “Everyone! Come look at our exclusive Hyakuji Shrine charms, handmade by our own Shinomiya Amane! Guaranteed to be the luckiest in the city!”

Well…not exactly the best example of a quiet and composed shrine maiden.

Now that was completely inaccurate. Amane was an incredibly expressive person! She would shout, and moan, and insult peop-wait a second, that is even person, nevermind, Amane is a rarely expressive person, and not at all a short-tempered, angry shrine maiden.

But really, Amane was concerned about Yuki.

And the tea...

And the dignity of the shrine maidens...

Moving on, Amane was glad that Yuki was back, and thankfully Yuki was always willing to do whatever ridiculous task Amane had for her. Whether that was bringing back months worth of tea, or helping Amane clean the roof of the shrine, Yuki was always up for the task!

Although, she was a little disappointed Yuki couldn't make it back to Japan for the New Year. Plus, there was little contact between the two given they had practically only just met before Yuki went away to France. Although, Amane did know Yuki long enough to know there was some drama between her, and two of her friends. Hopefully the France trip helped Yuki work through her thoughts, or at least, Amane hoped it did. Probably not that simple, but one can hope!

"If money was a problem, I would have been more than happy to assist."

The worst part was Amane was dead serious...

No excuses for next year, Yuki. Amane will pay even if you cannot!

Then Yuki went ahead, and tried to break down Amane's formality by offering to refer to each other by first name basis. Amane was about to say how absurd the idea would be when suddenly...

Yuki gave Amane a hug!

"Y-Yuki, N-Not in public!"

...Wait, what?

"Or in private!"

Way to be awkward, Amane.

We must take into consideration that this is without a doubt the first hug Amane has probably ever received in her entire life... No, it was probably the first time someone has even passed through Amane's one metre of personal space. It wasn't that Amane didn't like it, it was more of just a sudden response without thinking... Which only made Amane look even more strange... Maybe she should think before speaking.

Swiftly moving on, and pretending Amane never said that!

Yuki was now trying to attract the attention of the customers by selling shrine goods like it was a market place... It was at this point Amane realised that France has probably done more harm than good to poor Yuki...

"T-Tsukiyoru Yuki! We can't sell shrine goods like they do in markets! Shrine goods are to be bought after much thought, and then treasured! Not bought on a whim, and then forgotten about!"

...An even worse example of a quiet and composed shrine maiden...

Also, she only called Yuki by her first name earlier because she confused from the hug. Amane will not let a weakness like that show again!

Yuki frowned at the admonishment she was receiving for trying to take the initiative by selling the items. Sure, some people actually stopped to look at her, but it didn’t attract any additional customers.

“Aiya…this isn’t working…maybe we need to go back to your method?”

Yuki shuffled behind the open window and discreetly peeked inside the money box. She blinked. And blinked again. Was that IT? Maybe the stand hadn’t opened until just before she arrived. Except for the fact that it was now late afternoon and the sun was starting to dip lower in the sky.

This was no good.

It wasn’t just about selling Amane’s hard work at handwriting all the charms, but the shrine genuinely needed the money to stay afloat. They couldn’t start charging people to go there, that would be practically blasphemous, but the shrine didn’t heat and clean itself. Even Yuki was taking the absolute minimum wage they would allow because there were rules about how long an unpaid volunteer was allowed to work. Though she was sure it probably went right back into it through prayer donations.

They needed another strategy…what could they do to attract more customers? And not just attract them, but get them to buy things?

“This calls for drastic measures, Amane-san! For the sake of the shrine! What can we do?”

Maybe if Yuki pushed the fact that their current method wasn't working, and failure would potentially sink the shrine, she would kick her ideas and motivation into high gear.

Amane was somewhat relieved to see that Yuki decided against the bazaar styled sales tactics, went returned to the quiet way of selling things. While Yuki was checking the money box, Amane returned to serving customers, not that there were any to serve...

Like most of the day.

Although, it was winter, and in their right mind goes to the shrine after hatsumoude during the winter? Not when they could be sat in their home, warmed up by a heater, while drinking a hot cup of tea, and eating strew, watching Exile and AKB48 on the television...

Damn you, modern life.

Although, unlike Yuki, Amane was technically just a volunteer worker since she hasn't even been paid once for working at the shrine. At least that was of some help to the shrine... Actually, given how much Amane worked, they would have been bankrupt a long time ago if she wanted pay...

Of course, Amane was a little taken aback when Yuki suddenly mentioned drastic tactics, although, Amane was more than aware of what Yuki was talking about...

But what could they possibly do...

"We could always have a tea tasting competition."

...That was an awful idea, Amane.

"Or a shrine wedding experience day."

What is this, the Edo period?

"Do you have any ideas, Tsukiyoru Yuki?"

Please let them be better, if you do...

“Wait, what was that last one? A shrine wedding?”

The wheels began turning in her head. And it took them a bit, but she started to form a plan. A wedding could definitely work. Young couples, old couples, tourists, hopeless romantics would all be unable to resist such an opportunity. Chances were good that everyone had already witnessed a traditional wedding before, though, so that was the tricky part.

“The wedding can work! But we’ll need to spice it up somehow…”

Telling people there was going to be a wedding at a shrine wouldn’t make people go out of their way to come visit. So what could they do? Serve some sort of special food afterward? Entice people with free blessings of good fortune in love after the ceremony? If they ever stooped to advertising “free blessings” they should probably just go ahead and shut down the shrine and save themselves some dignity.

Alright, bells and whistles aside, they needed to hash out some details. Yuki clapped her hands together with a newfound look of determination.

“OKAY! If we’re going to do this, we’re going to need someone to actually marry. Amane-san! Since it was your idea I’m guessing you want to be the bride! But who are you going to marry…”

Yuki scanned the crowd, completely ignorant of any reaction from Amane, trying to find a worthy subject. Most people looked to be older, and the majority of guys there were either with women or far too old. Not to mention there was the problem of implications of asking some guy to “pretend marry” Amane in case he tried to take things a little too seriously.

Eesh.

None of the people in attendance were up to Yuki’s ridiculously high standards considering the nature of the event. Then she had an idea.

“I know! You can marry me!”

THAT would surely attract a crowd, right?

...Wait, the shrine wedding was a good idea?

Although, a cold air began to blow as Yuki looked as if she was thinking, and Amane was getting a bad feeling about this. Perhaps starting off suggesting things in the first place wasn't such a good idea after all...

Which was when Yuki mentioned spicing things up...

"Spice things up...? What do you mean...?"

Which was about when...

“OKAY! If we’re going to do this, we’re going to need someone to actually marry. Amane-san! Since it was your idea I’m guessing you want to be the bride! But who are you going to marry…”

Amane as the bride!?

This isn't at all what she meant by shrine wedding experience day! Why would Amane want to be the bride in the first place!? Oi, Yuki, stop looking around the shrine!

"I-I didn't mean that kind of wedding! I meant people could come to the shrine, and take part in a wedding experience themselves! We rent wedding clothes for them to wear, and make the shrine suitable for a wed-"

“I know! You can marry me!”

"WHAT!?"

MARRY YUKI!?

Amane was literally standing there with her mouth hanging open, completely speechless. She completely forgot what she was saying in the first place. Actually, not even Amane knew what she was thinking she was that deep in shock. Was Amane even thinking?

"BUT-"

"I-"

"WE-"

No, calm down Amane, you can't even form words!

Deep breath. Hold. Breath out. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

That's better.

Now to just lightly reject the idea, and recommend some-

Which was about when Amane realised that a handful of people were applauding Yuki and Amane, as if congratulating them. They probably took notice when Amane shouted what at window shattering volumes. Amane couldn't reject Yuki in front of all these people, especially not after what happened with Yuki's last relationship. It would shatter her self confidence.

"F-Fine..."

What was that?

"Fine, I'll marry you!"

Amane was probably taking this whole marriage thing a lot more seriously than Yuki was... Ironically. I mean, she was as red as a tomato. She also looked as if she was going to cry.

Turning away from Yuki, Amane left some last words and she proceeded in the direction of the shrine exit...

"You can handle with the shrine side of things, I will buy whatever is required for a wedding... Kimonos... Food... Cake... Rings... Wait, what if she wants to wear more than one kimono...? What kind of ring do I buy...? Uuu..."

Yuki just broke Amane.

Yuki beamed with excitement after Amane agreed to the plan. She didn’t know what the big deal was. They were only getting married to enact a scene that people could watch, which would in turn (hopefully) inspire them to buy things to support the shrine. Maybe she would even make an announcement saying anyone wishing to give a “wedding gift” could make a donation to the shrine…

Oh, an announcement!

"Everyone, may I have your attention, please!" She raised her voice to ensure she was heard, but still kept the tone respectful. It would be terrible to disturb someone in the middle of their prayers or meditation. "Hyakuji Shrine will be hosting the first-ever dual miko traditional-slash-contemporary wedding experience! Please join us in one—" she could almost envision the panic on Amane’s face, "er, no…two hours for this historical and momentous occasion! Thank you!"

Judging by the fact that her announcement caused people to smile and chatter with one another told her that the idea may actually warrant a good turnout. It would be awful to go through all that trouble just to have three people show up and inevitably not buy or donate anything. In today’s day and age, however, to get society to participate in an event, they had to think it was one-time-only and well worth their valuable time.

Doing her part to spread the word, she shuffled inside the omikuji stand and squatted out of view, pulling out her phone. Messages were posted to every social media site she was a part of, as well as blasting out a mass text to her entire phone book (well, everyone in the “friends” category at least; no need to notify her doctor).

Tsukiyoru_Yuki

Japan’s first ever Dual Miko Wedding Ceremony Experience @ Hyakuji Shrine! Please join us and help support our shrine! TODAY ONLY at 1700! See you then~

That oughta do it!

She locked the screen on her phone and stood up, hands on her hips in determination. So, her area would be the shrine. Where to start…

{ 30 minutes prior to start }

Yuki shifted the last chair and stood back to admire her handiwork. The seating area was now set, and some people were even taking the liberty of sitting down (whether or not they realized what the area was for). The ceremony area had all of the necessities that she could scrounge up from the storage area for such things within the shrine, and for only 90 minutes of prep time (as well as occasionally processing the odd omikuji sale here and there) it wasn’t bad.

The sun was starting to go down, and she was getting a bit concerned that she didn’t see Amane yet. But she wasn’t exactly sure what she was trying to get done. It was also worth noting that the closer it drew to 5 pm, the more people seemed to come in the gates. Maybe her message worked?!

She hunkered down in the stand once again and pulled out her phone to text her colleague.

Text from Tsukiyoru Yuki

All set here, Amane-san! How are things on your end?

What WAS she doing, anyway...this was just supposed to be a little marketing technique. Maybe she was spreading the word.

After a taxi ride, Amane managed to arrive at downtown Hyakuji relatively quickly. Amane already had a couple of hours to actually buy everything, so she really didn't have much time to waste. Even in the taxi, Amane phoned up a catering service, and booked them for as soon as possible. After a quick search for wedding catering services in Hyakuji, Amane picked the most popular one, and managed to book them for... Well, as soon as possible. Payment method? She just used her own bank account. Between her family money, and the share dividends from the Rabenschwarz Group, she honestly didn't even need to check if she had enough any more.

Plus, for a wedding, there was no excuse to be mean with money, right!?

By the time Amane had arranged the catering, she had arrived in down town. All that was left was a wedding ring, dresses, and a wedding cake...

Something tells me that Amane is taking this far too seriously...

The Jewellery Store

Somehow, or another, Amane managed to find a jewellery store without wasting much time. Needless to say, the attendant at the shop was more than surprised to find someone as young as Amane browsing for wedding rings... Especially since she was still in a shrine maiden attire...

Now the ultimate question... Which ring to buy.

Amane liked the simple rings, so that was an easy enough choice, but what about Yuki? Amane forgot to ask what kind of ring Yuki likes! She couldn't phone up and ask, that would waste too much of both of their times, which meant Amane would have to decide by herself!

What if she had similar tastes as Amane, and liked simple rings? What if she didn't? What if she liked those ridiculously complicated rings with a bunch of diamonds, and stuff everywhere on it? Does she like silver, gold, or platinum? Well, first of all, let's pick a ring for Amane, and then think of what ring to get for Yuki...

"I'll take this one..."

Now that Amane's ring was decided, now for Yuki's ring...

"A-And this one... And that one... And the one over there..."

How many are you buying!?

The Wedding Dress

...You can probably guess what Amane did here... Pretty much the same as what she did in the jewellery store.

Buy a bunch of kimonos and wedding dresses.

Although, Amane already had her own personal kimono for weddings and special events, so at least she saved some time and money on that front.

The Cake Shop

Finally, the cake shop. Well, it was one that had wedding cakes.

Unfortunately for Amane, she couldn't quite buy cakes left, right and centre considering it was a lot harder to hide the wedding cake than it was rings and dresses...

Which meant Amane could only purchase one cake, and only one...

Honestly, Amane wasn't much of a fan of cake, and if she really to eat cake, she would go for something simple. However, this wasn't just about Amane. She had to think of what kind of people would go to the wedding, and what kind of cake Yuki would like. Honestly, Amane had no idea what kind of person would turn out to a shrine maiden marrying a shrine maiden wedding. Probably someone Amane would rather not meet.

Alright, let's not think about the people who are going to turn up at the wedding then...

Right, so Yuki went to France. Maybe she likes the traditional wedding cakes? After all, it seemed as if Yuki had an interest in foreign things. It was probably fortunate that Amane opted to buy a western wedding dress as well as a kimono in that case...

Which is when Amane saw it. The definition of a typical western wedding cake that you would see on TV...

Cake!

My God, that looks expensive, are you sure you're not overdoing it...?

Maybe Amane would have to check her bank account after purchasing all of this... But fortunately for Amane, she wasn't in her right mind, and the last thing on her mind was expenses.

...Which was a good indication of how far off Amane's idea of this wedding was in comparison to Yuki's...

20 minutes prior to start

Arriving in a tax, Amane finally at the shrine. Unknown to Yuki, Amane didn't even have time to spread the word she was that wrapped up in purchasing things for the wedding. While Yuki had fund raising in head, God only knows what Amane had in her head. Either way, Amane was taking this whole wedding thing waaaaay too seriously.

"S-Sorry I took so long!"

Somewhat rushing to where Yuki was stood at the stand. It would probably take Yuki a few moments to actually work out it was Amane in the first place given she was in completely different clothes as when she left. More than likely Yuki hadn't even seen Amane outside of her shrine maiden attire, so it would probably come as a shock to see Amane in a kimono, with her hair suddenly done...

Amane!

"I think I bought everything we need for the wedding... A catering service should be here soon, and the cake should be delivered about the same time."

Wait a second, there were more important things than the cake and catering service!

"B-B-By the way, what kind of wedding dress did you have in mind... A kimono? A western wedding dress? Both? Simple, or Complicated? W-What about the wedding ring? Simple? Decorated? Gold? Platinum? Diamond?"

...My God, what kind of rings did you buy Amane...?

Well, if Yuki didn't notice that Amane was uncharacteristically stranger than usual, she would probably never notice.

One does not simply eat one packet of mee goreng
WELL SOMEONE HAD TO DO IT.

Though of all the people whom had to read and respond to that, well... odd message from a certain Pink Miko, it just had to be him. Though knowing Yuki... "What on Earth is she up to this time..." This is probably her getting caught up in some weird promotional event and getting way too into it or something...

...It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, but what if she's being scammed or something by some dodgy perverts who just wanted to take free pictures and sell them on the internet or something?! God hope he never says it out loud, but Yuki is not exactly the brightest bulb around. Besides, come on, if 'wedding between two shrine maidens at the shrine' doesn't sound suspicious or strange then he's a llama!

Or maybe he is a llama, he doesn't go to the shrine much to know what kind of odd stuff they do there...

Well, he'll find out soon enough. He's already reaching up the top of the staircase leading up to the shrine anyw-

...

Woah.

...He really is a llama. I mean look at all these setups, and the visitors... it's like there really is a wedding going on here. "You're kidding me... who the heck is getting married...?" He couldn't help but question to no one in particular, scratching his head as he stared blankly around the decorations and the seats and the people around anticipating the wedding... God the atmosphere is making him feel so out of place. Luckily enough he caught someone familiar amongst the crowd, just outside the shrine. "Oi, Yuki!"

The young butler barked out at the Pink Miko, making his way right at her who was currently accompanied by some other girl in a pretty kimono. "The hell, I thought you were kidding when you said there's going to be a wedding at the shrine..." Okay, now that he's seen it with his own eyes, this definitely doesn't look like a scam or anything. In fact it looks like a pretty legit wedding ceremony. In which case he should probably congratulate whomever is actually marrying? "...So uh. I'm guessing she's the bride?" He said, glancing at the girl in the kimono, who is... dare he say it to someone's bride, quite attractive. If not looking a bit too young for someone of marriageable age. ...Anyway! "So who's the husband- ...wait before that what were you saying about dual miko wedding...?"

There aren't any guy miko, are there...?

“Amane-san~! So glad you’re…back…?”

With every detail Amane told her she arranged, Yuki’s eyes grew wider and wider in disbelief. Even more, she couldn’t believe she was given a selection of dresses, as well as a myriad of rings to choose from. Hopefully she’d picked up the jewelry at a pawn shop, otherwise she would have to ask who she killed and robbed to get so much money. She was just about to figure out how to draw a mustache on her face to be the “groom” but apparently this was going to be a proper dual-bride wedding.

“I don’t know…! I didn’t plan on having choices! I was just going to wear whatever I found in the shrine and use a twist-tie for a ring or something…”

Were they on the same page? And why was she so flustered? It could have been because a larger-than-expected crowd of people had showed up…but hopefully she didn’t actually think they were—

“Ah! Seth-kun!”

Yuki waved excitedly to the first of her friends whose arrival she had noticed. Although she had to admit that of all the people, strange he would be the first to show up. Usually he couldn’t have been expected to be bothered by such things. But she had sort of placed him up on a brother-like pedestal whether that type or level of relationship was welcome on his end.

“Husband? Well, that’s the thing. We needed a way to raise money for the shrine since no one was buying the omikuji, so Amane-san suggested wedding experience! And there were no good guys around to play the role, so I said she could marry me. But…” She tapped her chin thoughtfully and gave him a onceover. “Maybe you could do it…” She then shook her head and shrugged. “But I already told everyone it was going to be two miko, so I don’t want it to be a lie! Sorry, Seth-kun!”

Uh…sorry for what?

“I should get dressed! Go sit down before all the seats are gone!”
She smiled at him, clearly having no idea that this whole thing had some serious implications, and shooed him toward the seating area.

Suffice to say, the beginning of the new year was a particularly busy season for Selene, what with the Singapore Air Show being around the corner, Frostfire Industries - being a major player in the aerospace industry - has been abuzz with activity since a few months ago; and the Hyakuji branch being the headquarters of their operations in the Asia Pacific region hadn't helped matters any, and as such the corporate heiress found herself helping out a lot more often at the Frostfire building, handling various written and email correspondence that the company was getting by the truckload pertaining to the event... to the point that she almost forgot about the shrine event!

Now, with the New Year event at the shrine, the corporate heiress knew she couldn't afford to not show her support for her best friend by not going to the shrine to pray (even if she isn't a Shintoist by faith), make a donation and purchase some omikuji. "To Hyakuji Shrine, thank you," Selene instructed the driver of a corporate limousine that was waiting at the building's front porch, her eyes never leaving the screen of her smartphone as the corporate heiress continued her work while on the go. A notification tune would play on her phone alerting the pumpkin-haired girl to updates on her friends' social media, particularly one from Yuki, prompting the girl to check...

And almost ended up jumping from her seat to hit the car roof. "Cor blimey!?" the corporate heiress exclaimed in disbelief, eyes wide in shock. "It's okay, I'm fine... just take me to the shrine," Selene reassured her driver as he and the bodyguard seated at the front looked over their shoulders to the rear where the corporate heiress was seated. Meanwhile, Selene would send a brief message to her friend...

Message From Selene

To: Yuki-chan

You're so full of surprises ever since you got back, Yuki-chan. And I must say I like that. : )

And by the way, I don't suppose you could reserve me a seat for this event? I'm heading over even as I'm typing this. ^^

Yours Sincerely,
Selene Frostfire

"Ah... I must've been too slow..." A certain half-zombie drawled as she ascended the last of the steps leading up to the shrine looking to buy some omikuji for the new year, only to find that the shrine staff aren't selling them anymore, a hint of a frown creasing the half-zombie's otherwise perpetually neutral expression. Being unable to feel the cold, Misora had opted to put on a bare minimum of cold weather gear, with only a coffee-and-cream striped scarf and pair of mittens going over a brown short-sleeved off-shoulder top and camisole along with a pleated black skirt with brown dress boots and coffee-and-cream striped stockings. "You're the guy I saw the other day fighting those zombies... and with the student council too..." Misora remarked as she shuffled towards Seth, waving at the butler. "Is your arm still hurting?"

"You'd think I should've gotten tired of saying this... but just when you thought you've seen everything..." Lavender remarked as she dropped a cash offering into the donation box before taking a seat to wait for the miko wedding to start.

"Hyakuji is built on surprises, Lavender-sensei," Jen added as she sat next to the aeromancer, the weather today thankfully being more pleasant and thus not requiring her to go around as a human coat rack. "You ever came up with something like this in your doujins, sensei?" the purple-haired girl chuckled.

"Well, no... and I'm surprised someone beat me to the punch with this idea," Lavender replied somewhat sheepishly as she patted the back of her head. "And this coming from Yuki-chan no less, really makes you wonder what the world is coming to, no?"

...A twist tie...?

Amane just gave a blank stare. She honestly had no idea how she should reply to that. It was a good thing that Amane handled the clothing and ring... God only knows what Yuki would have brought back with her. Actually, Amane could guess. A twist tie and whatever happened to be in her wardrobe.

Although, it was about now Amane started to realise she was probably taking this more seriously than she should...

However, before Amane could actually think anything through properly, guess who decided to show up.

Seth Ryouga.

Of course, he would show up to a shrine maiden wedding. That pervert. Amane was hoping that nobody from the school would find out, but all hope had left her the moment Seth showed his face. Fortunately for Amane, it appeared that Seth didn't recognise Amane. If she just kept her mouth shut, maybe he wouldn't realise it was Ama-

"So Amane-san suggested wedding experience! And there were no good guys around to play the role, so I said she could marry me. But…”

JDJHDSD, YUKI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?

Is what Amane's expression said.

However, before Amane could even get angry...

"Maybe you could do it…"

"I AM NOT MARRYING HIM! I would rather a girl than marry Seth Ryouga! Just go and pick a dress and ring, and let's start the wedding."

You heard it from Amane. She would rather marry a girl than Seth. Sorry Seth. At least Seth was the only member of Hyakuji High he-Oh my God, is that more students...?

At least Seth is the only member of the Student Council he-Oh my God, is that Jennifer? Looks like any hope Amane had of nobody knowing has been smashed into a thousand tiny pieces... Well, Amane will at least try and keep herself from crumbling during the wedding. If only she could take things as easily as Yuki could...

Amane did whatever she could to get Yuki to keep talking with Seth and the other students to a minimum before the situation was made even more awkward. Asking one of the other shrine maidens to help Yuki with her dress(es). Since Yuki had a choice, Amane was expecting her to be ready any time soon which meant Amane had some time to gather her thoughts until the wedding actually started. Letting Yuki get on with her dress changing, Amane went to wherever the she was supposed to wait until the ceremony actually started.
