And in the endless pause there came the sound of bees.

Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Rachel S. Quisenberry Gender: Female Age: 17 Height: 5’0” [~152 cm] Weight: 150 lbs. [~68 kg.] Music: Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know Description or Image of Character Appearance: Just me. Being awesome. Editing Recipes! Occupation: Student/Digimon Tamer/Part-Time Chef Grade Level: 3rd Year Powers/ Abilities: Rachel is an astoundingly normal human being. Or at least she was, until she met Goldie (Tinkermon). As a Digimon Tamer, Rachel’s only just started and frankly finds the whole thing pretty ridiculous. With that said, she and Goldie have become inseparable over the last couple of months, their friendship forged during a rather trying time for the both of them. Rachel bears a new kind of digivice called a Digi-Com, a device with all the features of a normal smartphone along with a few useful extras, including the ability to store Goldie digitally when she needs to rest. Goldie Goldie is a Tinkermon as a rookie, an unusual digimon partner due to her Virus type, though her other digivolutions are more in line with the usual vaccine and data types, not to mention her angelic early forms. Goldie’s a bit like Rachel in many ways, often biting and sarcastic, though she’s way more eager for a good fight. Even after just a couple of months, Goldie has already become very protective of Rachel and would do almost anything to be there for her. Not that she’d say so out loud, of course, masking her care with biting comments and a sizable ego that contrasts almost comically with her tiny stature. All in all, Goldie doesn’t have any big goals at the moment—she just wants to kick ass and keep Rachel safe. Baby Level: Puttimon In-Training Level: Cupimon Rookie Level: Tinkermon (Usual Form) Champion Level: Fairymon ------------------ Ultimate Level: ??? Mega Level: ??? Equipment You Have: Digi-Com Residency Request: Yuki Schedule: Homeroom Teacher: Lavender
Personality Description: Smug, self-centered and insensitive, Rachel’s not the nicest person at first blush. While she doesn’t go out of her way to make others miserable, Rachel isn’t someone to go to for advice or sensitivity on a delicate issue; you’re more likely to get a sarcastic quip out of her than anything else. She’s convinced that most people create their own problems, and anyone she puts in that category gets no sympathy from her (not that anyone else does either). With all that said, Rachel is rather outgoing and has a great sense of humor. She’s a jerk, sure, but at least she’s not a boring sourpuss—if you can put up with her occasional barbs she can be a blast to have around as long as you don’t plan on getting into any sensitive topics. Rachel considers herself a rational, logical person to the core. She doesn’t believe much in the supernatural, although recent events in her life have forced her to redefine what “supernatural” means. Case-in-point: Digimon. Those strange digital creatures defy most of Rachel’s categories for what she considers possible...and most of the time she isn’t very excited about having one as a partner. She’s not even sure she wants to be a Digimon tamer in general, let alone go running off in the middle of the night to fight the “bad” ones. Even with all this in mind, Rachel’s still a human being. She has people and things she cares deeply about, even if she doesn’t talk about them. The rare person (or Digimon) who spends enough time around her constant barbs and sarcasm will eventually realize that Rachel isn’t (usually) being mean for its own sake. She’s just a person who finds it hard to ignore the flaws in others’ ideas and can’t help but point them out when she sees them, confronting people whenever she feels they’re “full of it.” The funny thing is that Rachel herself is pretty “full of it” when you get right down to her core. She puts up a smart & snarky front, but she’s just as lonely and afraid and contradictory as anyone is in their teens. Incidentally, Rachel does have one area of unreserved enjoyment: cooking. The aroma of fresh ingredients simmering on the stove, the sensation of cookie dough between her fingers, the warmth of the oven washing over her face when the door comes down—Rachel couldn’t put a price on how much she loves making (and eating!) food of all kinds. Catching her in the kitchen is the only way you’ll escape without a harsh word, as an almost—dare I say it—maternal attitude takes over when she’s cooking that softens her jabs to something a bit more playful rather than her usual sarcastic quips. It’s therapeutic for her, honestly. No matter what mood she was in to start with, preparing something nice to throw in the oven always improves her day. Personal History: Rachel Quisenberry was born in the United States, on a naval air station in Brunswick, Maine. Not that her birthplace mattered much, though, as her family moved across the country every time her father was transferred. Aside from the constant moving, Rachel’s upbringing was pretty normal. However, between her father’s tours on duty and her mother time-consuming office job Rachel didn’t spend a lot of actual time with her family. Instead it was her babysitter, a woman named Samantha Locke, who Rachel spent most of her time with as a little girl. And it was with Ms. Locke that Rachel first learned how to cook. Of course, Ms. Locke’s cooking lessons went well beyond just navigating the usual kitchen utensils; the importance of fresh ingredients, careful temperature management and “a little love sprinkled on top” were at the core of Ms. Locke’s cooking philosophy. The cooking lessons were always nice, though none of it could replace the absence of Rachel’s parents in her young life. Rachel’s other primary hobby was PC gaming; she didn’t own any consoles, as her parents refused to buy her a device made solely for “playing pointless games,” but were alright with a machine that she could also do her homework on. While her passion for gaming was a mere shadow of her passion for cooking, Rachel found that she took to most computer games quite well. It was around her freshman year in high school that she started playing her very first MMORPG, World of Magecraft. World of Magecraft (or WoM) was a fantasy RPG all about using various kinds of magic to fell one’s foes and gain great power over time. Rachel’s character “Catarin” had actually become a very powerful leader of several in-game organizations, well-known in the game’s online community. Rachel herself had even been asked to appear in person at a couple of gaming conventions, but her parents refused to let her attend. It was near the end of her sophomore year when it happened—the event that would go down in WoM history as the “Big Virus Incident.” It started out innocently enough—a new area appeared in WoM’s game world map unannounced, with a strange name: “Folder Continent.” Many people assumed it was some sort of beta-test area that the developers had accidentally leaked, and thus it was quickly flooded by players searching for new enemies, equipment and any other advantages they could grab before the area became sealed off again. Rachel’s character, along with about two-dozen others, travelled into one area of the continent where a fortress appropriately called “Nightmare Castle” awaited. It was within the walls of this strange fortress that the players encountered strange enemies they’d never seen before—monsters in the form of strange black demons, ghosts with sharp teeth, disgusting wads of grinning green slime, and numerous others. The players were quickly overrun, finding that their normal in-game powers were completely useless against these enemies. Rachel’s character managed to escape, both from the castle and from Folder Continent, but over 1500 players weren’t so lucky and ended up having their characters killed there without the ability to fight back. Those whose characters died while on Folder Continent found that their computers were infected with a virus that damaged their operating systems and rendered their computers inoperable. S.Y.S. Continuum, the company that owned and operated WoM, shut down the game for over two weeks as they attempted to locate and isolate “Folder Continent” on their servers, but no trace of that location could be found according to their press release. After a few weeks of apologizing and agreeing to pay for the damaged computers of their customers, WoM went back up and the game progressed as normal. Rachel, however, had left WoM due to a combination of the frightening news surrounding incident itself and her parents’ concerns about online gaming in general. That would’ve been the end of the story, in most cases. But it was only a week or two after that, while Rachel was hanging out at home all by herself one Saturday, when her iPhone dinged with a strange text message:
Rachel just stared down at her phone for a moment, not knowing what to make of it, but then her phone dinged again:
Rachel quirked a brow. Who the was sending her this? And what was with the binary code for a contact name— The sound of an explosion from downstairs, strong enough to shake the whole house, interrupted Rachel’s line of thought. Jumping up out of bed, Rachel was halfway to her door before she saw it down the hallway—the silhouette of something massive was coming up the stairs. Rachel closed her door as quickly and quietly behind her as she could manage, stuffed herself in her closet and buried herself in a pile of dirty laundry. She didn’t know what to do; her parents were out to eat celebrating her father’s recent return from service (and they always turned their cellphones off at dinner), and Ms. Locke was out of the country visiting family in Europe. And so she did the only thing she could think to do—she called 911. Meanwhile, things were only getting worse when the creature searched the house, rummaging around in each room and calling for Rachel by name. Once the monster reached her room and knocked down the door with its massive fist, it didn’t take long to find Rachel, cowering in the closet beneath her t-shirts and underwear. Clutching her cellphone in her hands, Rachel’s eyes were wide as they took in the massive green-skinned beast before her. “You must be Rachel, huh? Too bad for you! Now it’s time to meet my cudgel!” The creature’s breath stank of rotten meat as it spoke, strong enough to make Rachel’s stomach curdle. But as the monster raised its club and prepared to strike its victim, Rachel’s iPhone dinged again. “Huh? What was that?” asked the Ogremon, hesitating as Rachel looked down at her phone to see another text:
Rachel thumb-swept all the way to the end of her iPhone’s app list, where she saw a new app icon had appeared. It had no symbol, just a rounded yellow square. What was this supposed to do, exactly? Then she glanced up at the Ogremon, who looked like he might be ready to start his attack again. No choice—may as well go for it. Rachel touched the app symbol, hoping silently that it would turn her iPhone into a magic gun or something. What she got was (probably) way better than a magic gun. The room filled with bright yellow light as her smartphone’s appearance transformed, and after a moment a voice rang out behind Rachel and Ogremon. “Hey, dickhead!” Ogremon blinked and turned to face the newcomer, forgetting for a moment that he was responding to the name “dickhead.” Floating before him was a tiny little Digimon, standing barely 6 inches tall. “Wudda want, pipsqueakmon?” asked Ogremon. “Can’t you see I’m busy?” “What, busy picking on humans? That’s too easy. Why don’t you try me on for size, big guy?” What followed was one of the longest and most intense Digimon fights to ever take place in the real world, as Tinkermon’s small size and Ogremon’s clumsiness combined to make for a battle that did more damage to Rachel’s house than either combatant. The fight culminated in Tinkermon and Rachel working together to win, Tinkermon dizzying Ogremon’s senses while Rachel managed to shove him hard enough to knock him backwards all the way down the stairs head over heels. It was right around that time that the police showed up, but with Ogremon’s body rapidly dissipating there wouldn’t be anything left for Rachel to tell them. And so Rachel lied to the police. The story was true enough, at least—some scary stranger broke into the house (knocking the front door clean off its hinges apparently) and started rooting around for valuables when he spotted Rachel and began chasing her with a big club-like weapon. A club-like weapon swung with enough force to leave 24-inch craters in the walls. Right. At least the cops bought it. It wasn’t long after that fiasco that Tinkermon gave Rachel the rundown about Digimon, the Digital World in general as well as her responsibility as a Digimon Tamer. That last one gave Rachel a little vertigo. Responsibility? Said who, exactly? It wasn’t like she’d asked to have her house turned into a warzone, or to nearly lose her life to some awful green ogre...thing. A few weeks later, Rachel’s parents announced that her father was transferring the family again, this time to a naval base all the way in Japan! Rachel was pretty excited about going somewhere outside the states, though Goldie’s (Tinkermon’s nickname) claims about Japan’s heavy concentration of rogue Digimon wasn’t exactly welcome news. Still, all the same, it was a pretty awesome place to move to. Ooh, and maybe she’d learn to cook Japanese cuisine too! That left just one question: Where was she gonna go to school? Mashed Potatoes? The proof is in the pudding. |
