Three times the charm they say, and this is the third time the school's Dragon Youkai and supernatural studies teacher had decided to put off the class' schedule to after school, not even appearing in class and simply left a note on the blackboard telling them to meet up at the waterfall in the forest.

This is the second time he's done this by the way...

Oh, he's also reminded everyone to bring jackets or sweaters, considering it is in the middle of winter.

...The hell is he doing telling everyone to go to the forest mid-December anyway...?

Just like before though, upon reaching the edge of the forest they would find a few prismatic-colored crystals embedded into the trees and some of them poking out from the one foot tall blanket of snow. The Dragon Youkai had also left a reminder, mostly for the newer students, that the crystals are trails that, if followed, would lead them straight to the frozen river and waterfall of Hyakuji Falls. The greenery and colors from the past spring, summer and autumn had been completely obscured by the bluish white snow blanketing the leafless bush and trees, and the river had its surface frozen solid that you could walk over it without worry. The waterfall was also frozen, ending up with haphazard sculptures of icicles dropping from the cliffs.

Might wanna stay away from those tho.

That being said, some would probably be surprised to see that the teacher himself isn't actually around, some, not so much. Who ARE waiting for them though...

"Aaah, they're finally here! Thank god, did you guys bring something warm like that Lizard told you guys to?"

Posted Image
"Wha- dad! It's rude that that's the first thing you ask from them!"

...Some odd guy in a green kappa suit and a girl with a green cap and lots of mechanical hands coming from her backpack.

...Who the hell are these people?

"Cold, cold, cold, cold" Of the two girls walking toward hyakuji falls, the red skinned council member known as Heleth Mastema was opening the way repeating that single word with an annoyed tone. That day her hair was interestingly brought short on the front, and very long behind, with the long part used as a scarf around her neck.

Lagging behind, with a blank, calm face and a gait just as calm, Aya Taisha was contemplating the various leafless trees as she was advancing through the woods, occasionally spotting a crystal and looking for the next one.
Heleth's constant mutter didn't seem to annoy her at all as she was advancing with her constant pace. The silver haired girl wondered what could be the lesson for the day when Heleth's face popped inside her field of view.
"Why are you so slow!? Do you want me to freeze?"

"Near the falls it won't be warmer" was Aya's placid observation.

The dual layered eyes of the demon girl stared elsewhere in annoyance.
"Bah..."

---

As the duo approached the falls they were met by the other two odd persons.
"Who the hell are you!? Where's our teacher?" was Heleth's authoritary and uncerimonious request at the sight of the two strangers, a white cloud of vapor bursting out of her mouth.
Aya's hand patted her shoulder and looked at her with a trademark calm smile:
"They probably are some friend of him" she spoke calmly, to prevend her to overreact for so little "At any rate, she is right. Are you our TAs for the day?"

"..."

"What's wrong, Amane?"

"..."

For once, Amane's attention was directed at something other than Weiss's presence. It was directed towards the blackboard. Weiss could only turn to face the blackboard to see that Shun had scheduled another lesson at a completely ridiculously location.

"Does this mean I can go home?"

"..."

About fifteen minutes later, and a very long silence, Amane and Weiss finally arrived at the waterfall. Amane was wearing her winter uniform whereas Weiss was wearing her typical, but always out of place, European dress.

"How many more of these stupid lessons are you going to do at this stupid waterfall, can't you have a lesson at a no-"

What the Hell?

Was that a green thing and a robotic thing?

"I am going home."

With that, Amane walked off into the forest, leaving Weiss standing there, waving her hand at Amane.

"Bye Amane."

...

Yes, Amane just walked out of Shun's lesson for the third time.

Well, this little excursion of Shun's has started to become the norm rather than the exception. And it would seem that even the seasonal changes would do nothing to alter the youkai's plan to torture his students. But, regardless of seemingly any means of torture or impassible weather conditions, two form stalked forward from the winter wonderland.

Evray and Xie. It would seem the two boy's bumped into each other in the woods; didn't they arrive to the previous class in much similiar fashion too? Then again, it probably wasn't all that surprising, there was really only one way you could walk from the dormitories to the waterfall. And Shun's prismatic trail meant that they were bound to walk the same path.

Thankfully, Xie arrived empty-handed this time, seemingly refraining from the divesting the trails of their crystal markers. Or maybe his hands were just too cold, attempting to find warmth within the confines of his pant pockets. Despite his rebellious nature, the boy actually took Shun's advice and came wrapped within a dark cotton jacket. He even had a scarf wrapped around the bottom half of his face. Sadly, that did nothing to muffle the voice.

"...How are you not dead yet?" Xie questioned somewhat irritably. Perhaps it was his competitiveness that wouldn't allow him to let down how such a pale and sickly looking boy seemed to be taking the weather so well.

Actually, it should be Evray feeling cold. Surprisingly, he had even foregone his hoodie today, seemingly content on arriving wearing nothing more than a shirt and pants. The shorter boy made a bemused surprised face, before saying "Oh?" A teasing, mocking sound.

"Are you speaking of the weather? I think its pretty mild, at least compared to parts of Europe."

"Hmph."

Well, Xie has spent most of his life in very humid countries; Japan was probably the coldest country he has ever been to.

And then he saw the two figures standing before the glacial waterfall. Xie froze in his tracks.

"...I thought turtles were cold-blooded." Was he the only one that felt miserably in this weather?

"Oui," Evray replied to the kappa, motioning to what seems like a gym bag hanging from his side. "I've got a wide selection of scarves of various colors, length, and styles, all handknit mind, and able to fit almost any sort of style or image you would desire. Additionally, I also have some matching jackets and sweaters, ranging from cashmere to polyester." It would seem that Evray actually came suitably prepared for this class. Or perhaps he just wanted to show off his tailoring. In any case, it would be a helpful boon for any absent-minded student.

"So, what are we be going to do today?" Xie asked, seemingly giving no thought to Shun's absence. He would probably make an dynamic entrance, per usual. "Not ice fishing, I hope?"

"I also brought swimming suits."

What was he doing in this class anyway?

Ryou trailed behind the rest of the group as they assembled at the frozen waterfall, his hands in his pockets. The kitsune was dressed somewhat warmly, with a light coat on over his uniform and a red scarf. He didn't truly need it--he was more resistant to the cold than the average human, but given who was teaching this class, he thought it best to be ready just in case. He hadn't exactly been pleased upon learning who was teaching Supernatural Studies.

It was all Tsuki's fault--her and her meddling. He would have been perfectly capable of picking a class on his own. A class that didn't involve being under the instruction of a certain dragon youkai. Ryou had still not forgotten the events at the library. It hadn't been that long ago.

He came to a stop in front of the frozen waterfall, sniffing the air. The scents of his human classmates permeated it, as did a few others. He was fast learning that Hyakuji was composed as much of youkai, demons, spirits, monsters, aliens and other creatures as it was of humans. Not that that made them more tolerable. After all, Shun was the farthest thing from human and Ryou would take a human teacher over him any day.

He glanced away from Heleth, who was very clearly not human, when he realized he was staring and turned to the pair standing at the falls. He scented the air. The one in the green suit might have been a kappa. He wasn't entirely sure, and couldn't be sure unless he received some other indication. The girl was more of a mystery, but given that she addressed the man in the green suit as her father, it was difficult to tell. Given the amount of insanity he'd experienced in his first few days of being on this campus, he wasn't going to come to any assumptions.

Ryou stood at the back of the group, not talking to anyone, just waiting. At least that lizard wasn't here. Ryou supposed he would take what he could.

Eva emerged from the woods and joined the other students present, looking for Shun but only finding the two… odd characters waiting for them. “Will you two be our instructors for today’s session?” The gynoid looked the pair up and down, the Kappa didn’t hold much interest to her, he looked more like a guy in a kappa suit instead of an actual kappa, but the girl with all the gadgets was somewhat interesting. Eva wondered what she was doing here and what her relation to the kappa was. She called him her dad right? Seems kind of weird for a kappa to have a human (or at least human looking) daughter.

… Wait, Eva didn’t have this class, what was she doing here? That didn’t seem to bother the gynoid as she started recording the whole class. It’s not like this was the first time she showed up for this class, so it’s not a big deal right? “The temperature is within acceptable bounds. I assume our class will involve being subject to below average temperatures then?”

Ethan could recall the fonder days when he did not fear Supernatural Studies. Of course, back then the class was in the hands of someone who was not a raving lunatic. Regardless, the fact that the class was now significantly more dangerous did nothing to stop the fearful situation. It was being held outside in the freezing cold next to a probably frozen waterfall.

'...I have some coats.'

Naturally, by 'some coats' the boy really meant a truckload of coats. All of which he wore. In what must have been a horribly uncomfortable and stiff manner. Coupled with a few dozen hats, scarves, and gloves. On the bright side, this meant that he was quite warm. On the downside, if he needed to run away screaming he would find both to be very difficult to do. Unexpectedly, he was ok with that.

'Because no matter how dangerous it is going to be, I have a trustworthy and dependable friend I can rely on wholeheartedly.'

The bundle of coats and winter wear slowly rotated to the left and to the right.

'...who isn't here.'

You could almost hear a gulp beneath the coats.

"What's with the wet suit?" The China doll remarked snidely after she jogged up to the group. A P.E jacket was thrown over her uniform, although her legs were still pretty much exposed to the Winter chill. Did Shun expect his students to march all the way back to their dorms then come back down to the forest? As if she could be bothered to do that. She eyed the strange pair with a scrunched lip and raised brow, trying not to hate their teacher who kept leaving them stranded in some kind of effort to teach them a lesson.

Her right hand was heavily bandaged, everyone could see that it had been in that condition for some time now as she tucked it into the pocket of her spray jacket with a grumpy scowl on her face,

"Can we get a move on? I'm freezing my tits off over here."

Although something in the back of her mind told her that there was going to be no relief from that as long as she was still a part of this lesson.

"Oooh~ Those look really warm, good on you!" The 'man-kappa' was genuinely excited at the sight of Evray all of a sudden procuring a good variety of warm clothing he knit himself, quickly picking his favorite sweater, scarf and gloves of the collection and donned them without a second thought. "Aaah, now this is more like it~"

He really just took them without shame at all, much to his own daughter's embarrassment. "Mattaku..."

But in any case. "Naw, don't be silly, I can't teach people to save my- oi! Wait, where are you going, you can't skip class!" But before he could really do anything Amane had already disappeared. ...Sigh, oh well, it's that lizard's problem, not his. "Em. Ahem, anyway, you raise a good point, though I thought he'd actually be here with you guys..." The man-kappa himself seemed to be pretty clueless just as the rest of the class when it came to the whereabouts Dragon Youkai, looking around somewhat anxiously wondering if he'd been dumped to babysit these kids while he's off napping somewhere or something...

"Maaa, don't worry, he'll be around soon enough~" His daughter however seem quite eager to take initiative, procuring a pretty huge blackboard from out of her big green backpack with her many robotic hands and set it on the frozen river. "Actually, we have to apologize, we're the ones who told him to bring you guys here, ehehe..." Hopefully they're not too bitter about having been forced to trudge through snow and ice all the way to the middle of the forest. In any case, as she took out a box of chalk from her bag with that same robot hand, she said, "We erm... kinda have a little bit of a problem in our hand, see..." As she said that, a few of the robot hands pointed to the frozen river and waterfall. "Well... we kinda need your help..."

So this whole lesson wasn't Shun's idea? He felt slightly better knowing that. After all, it wasn't as if the cold bothered him too much anyway. Ryou glanced around, his eyes moving past the girl to the frozen river and waterfall. He didn't sense anything out of the ordinary about it at the moment. It just seemed like an ordinary frozen waterfall.

Well, if they were kappa, then maybe the ice was a problem. Did they need to get to something on the other side of the waterfall? If so, he could help them with that easily, and maybe they could all be gone before that lizard decided to show up.

"What? Do you just need the ice melted?" he asked, turning towards the girl. Ryou held up one hand, a fireball forming inside it and resting in his cupped palm. Warmth spread from the small ball of fire, slowly warming the area around him and potentially making things more comfortable for the students in his immediate vicinity. The walking, talking pile of coats, at least, looked like he probably needed it. "I can help with that."

It looked like Ryou hadn't quite learned his lesson about fires in the forest. Oh well.

"Of course that certainly is what they need, melting ice in winter."
Heleth's cold gaze settled on the boy with the lit hand ans her sharp fangs appeared on her face.
"Now all the students know you're a pyromancer, congratulations"

The red demon could not stand people that never let go a chance to show off. The boy's intervention was as useless as his offer to help.

"No need to start a ruckus" Aya said, as she calmly let a hand on the student council member's shoulder "Just let him show off if that makes him happy. It's not like he is hurting you or something"

Weiss decided to sit down by a tree, and pull out a random manga out from her bag. It was a completely random chapter of a manga she has never read before, so she actually had no idea what was going on in it.

Amane, meanwhile, was already long gone. She probably went to do something Student Council related like make complaints about Shun for the fourth time this week.

"I can melt the ice in exchange for your soul."

...Well, technically she could.

It was always an option, right?

Although, it looked more like Weiss was reading too much manga and her brain had become garbage rather than a serious comment...

So the ice was a problem? All they had to do was break it then, right?

At least, that’s the logic that Eva went by. It wasn’t all that cold, so it was unlikely that the river had frozen all the way through, which means it can be easily broken. The gynoid casually walked onto the frozen river, stopped in the middle, and… started smashing her fist into the ice.

Did she care about getting hurt? Nope. Her fists are titanium, plus she has superhuman strength.

Did she care about falling through? Nope. She already took a walk at the bottom of the river once, and another one doesn’t sound all that bad.

Did she realize that the river could have been frozen by supernatural means?

… Well. That was going to be a problem.

Evrayd didn't mind trudging through winter. In fact, he seemed rather content.

"Merci," Evray smiled, nodding gratuitously at the kappa man. The sight would be enough to give anyone that new him nightmares; the boy's grin an unnatural, uneasy, and uncomfortable thing. Like the cracking of ice after a cold winter; which is surprisingly relevant to the situation the class find themselves in right now.

"Would you also like some swimsuits? One piece or two peice? Floral or plain?" And what would a Kappa do with a swimsuit? And what would a kappa-man do with a two piece swim suit?! Well, this class was already full of eccentricities, so who knows? Their residential witch and newspaper chief was sitting in the snow and reading manga, and some other girl was punching through the waterfall.

Xie, on the other hand, was another story. But the weather probably had little to do with his foul temperament.

"Damn, idiots," Xie scoffed in the cold. His eyes were filled with disapproval and scrutiny. And those eyes were pointed at "What do you think that would do, huh?" the Chinese boy shouted at the American-made gynoid.

What would that do?

"If the waterfall is completely frozen, that would mean that its the same upstream as well. Moving water is much more difficult to freeze than still water, and falling water even more so. Breaking the ice will only get you that; broken pieces of ice."

And the fact that that gynoid could stand and walk over the icy river without plunging a hole through it meant that the river was more or less completely frozen.

Taking a glance at Ryou, Xie nodded.

"I say we go with fire," the Alchemist suggested, crossing his arms. However, it seemed like he had no plans to actually go and physically try and melt the thing.

"Don't suppose anyone has a light then?" Yang added in without missing a beat before suspiciously eying Weiss for her earlier comment, "Because I don't think you should go with her option."

Then a tingling warmth pricked the tiny hairs on her arms, and suddenly her mood improved. Well, only by a little bit.

"Oh look. We can just let him burn it up." She said, pointing to Ryou with a boney thumb.

There are many legends and stories of a kappa living in Hyakuji lakes and ponds, although it was very hard to take this one very seriously when his zipper was still showing... Even under that sweater. On the other hand, Yang had no idea what mythos the girl, (his daughter - was it?) was trying to emulate but her gear was pretty impressive. All in all, this session was very confusing, the point of this lesson still being very unclear to her.

It felt more like running an errand.

"Is this really necessary? Its not like they actually live here...." Although her voice sounded a little unsure at the end. "... right?"
