Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Sugiyama Mugen Gender: Male Age: 15 Height: 5ft, 7in / 170.18cm Weight: 132lb / 59.87Kg Description or Image of Character Appearance:Suigyama Mugen is of average height, with a long, lanky build. He doesn't appear to be particularly strong, or fat, and he tends to run instead of fight. His hair is a couple of inches long, and is often a tangled, black nest; He may not own a comb, but at the very least he maintains a suitable level of hygiene. Mugen's eyes are brown, and he wears glasses due to his near-sightedness. He has a narrow chin, but a strong jaw, and his eyes have slight bags beneath them. He typically wears the full school uniform, blazer included, regardless of the weather, and walks in black loafers when he's at school. He also tends to carry a satchel over his shoulders, usually resting next to his right hip. His laptop is almost always inside, along with his school books when he's going to class, as well as pens, pencils, paper, and other necessary school supplies. Outside of school hours, he tends to wear whatever happens to be in his closet Mugen's Glasses Mugen's Satchel Occupation: Student Grade Level: First Year/ Freshman Powers/ Abilities: Technopathic Field – Mugen's ability allows him to surround himself with a signal field similar in function to a wireless internet connection with a maximum radius of 30ft. Through this field, Mugen can tap into electronic devices. If they're simple, such as a wrist watch or a coffee maker, what he can do with them is very limited. But if they're complex, like a laptop or a smart phone, then he can do much, much more. For the purpose of communicating with technology, his brain will automatically decode and translate whatever computer languages are in play so that he can understand them, and then translate his output into the language that the machine uses. In essence, this means that he can communicate with a machine whether it is using Java, C++, or even Binary, and give it commands that it will respond to. Of course, said commands have to be within the abilities of the device that he is using. Mugen's ability to communicate with technology and give it commands is much more effective when he can physically input his orders through hardware, such as a keyboard and mouse. Oddly enough, anything that would disrupt the broadcast of your standard radio or wireless internet signals will also disrupt his own field. An exception would be EMPs, as his abilities are organic in origin, not technological, but if there's no tech around for him to communicate with and control, then his power is essentially useless. As a subset of this power, Mugen can also “see” wireless networks, radio frequencies, etc by selectively “programming” what his eyes are looking for. Different frequencies and networks all come in different colors to him, and he can access those networks and the data being transferred from them. For example, if he were tapping into a radio signal, he'd be able to hear the music carried on that signal. If he were tapping into a TV signal, he could “see” what show or info was being broadcast. For internet signals, he can even view a sort of Heads Up Display that shows him the information that he is viewing. All of this is internal, so no sights or sounds would be seen or heard by people around him Schematic Processing – Mugen's unique brain is particularly adept at breaking down and analyzing schematics for computers and computer-like devices. By accessing schematics online, Mugen can study numerous designs for various technologies, and then store them for future access. He can even use his Technopathic Field's unique wavelength to scan tech, break it down in his mind, and show him how to reconstruct it. Using his processing ability, he learns exactly how the device functions, but really nothing on the principals and studies that contributed to the technology's creation. Because Mugen is human, any technology that is not of human Origin would be baffling and strange to him, and would take a serious level of study and practice before he could even begin to do anything with it. Because his power is limited to computer technology, he can't do anything with say, combustion engines, or organic materials. Furthermore, he needs to see the schematics for each component of a device if he's to build the entire thing from scratch. Technomancer – Once Mugen has downloaded the information for something, Mugen can begin building it. With necessary materials, time, and workspace, Mugen can make just about anything he puts his mind to. Of course, there are limitations placed on the things he builds by the materials used and what they're expected to do. He's not going to make a doom ray out of a box of pencils, but using this power, he was able to create a scaled down, hand held, and effective “Flicker Cannon” Ionic manipulation - Mugen developed this power after extensive use and experimentation with his preexisting abilities of technological manipulation. Using this ability, Mugen is capable of controlling charged atomic particles known as ions. Using his ability, Mugen can create fields of Positive or Negative Ionic particles, and through the control of these particles generate electrical energy or manipulate the flow of electrical energy within machinery. A useful ability, it is, however, slightly limited in that Mugen could never generate an electrical charge powerful enough to kill a person. Mugen cannot create charged particles through this ability, only manipulate existing ions. The most powerful charge he can safely produce is similar in strength to an average police issue tazer. Equipment You Have: Lenovo Helix Ultrabook – A high powered laptop computer that Mugen carries around with him at all times. The screen is, in fact, a detachable tablet computer, complete with stylus and wireless mouse. Mugen keeps this computer in his satchel along with his school books. HTC One Smart Phone – This phone is perhaps far more important to Mugen than anything else he owns. Using its ability to access wireless data networks, and his own Technopathic capabilities, Mugen can pretty much access the internet wherever he wants, whenever he wants. Vertigo Ray – A gizmo whipped up by Mugen as an alternative to direct conflict. Basically, the Vertigo Ray is device similar in shape and design to a very small pocket flashlight, not more than four inches in length total. The end cap is a concave lens, behind which are numerous small LED lights, all of which are extremely bright and alternate in color and lightwave frequency, creating a flickering, high intensity beam of light. Looking into this light will cause almost immediate sensations of moderate vertigo, which worsens the longer one looks into the flickering lights. Common symptoms include dizziness, nausea, and minor to moderate headaches. The symptoms fade quickly enough once one stops looking into the light, but usually Mugen is long gone by then. Satchel - A leather satchel that Mugen found in a thrift store, he uses it to haul around his laptop, books, and supplies. The leather is a rich brown, and appears to be well maintained. The buckles on the belted clasps are brass, but slightly tarnished. Residency Request: Yuki Schedule: Homeroom Teacher: Lavender 1) History 2) Science 3) Supernatural Studies Personality Description: When most people think of a technopath, they think of a cold, alien being with no ability to connect with humans. Said individuals are thinking about computers, not people. Mugen is a normal guy: he gets up in the morning, brushes his teeth, wonders if that girl was laughing because she thought he was pathetic or cute, and goes to school like everyone else. Mugen is brilliant with tech, but works for his knowledge in other fields. He's good at talking with people, but can often come off as distracted, or seem like he's not paying attention. This is because at any given moment, Mugen could be accessing various pieces of information online, listening in on a phone conversation being transferred through his data field, or just working on some side project. Mugen is a compassionate and kind-hearted guy, but ultimately, a coward. He prefers fleeing and misdirection instead of out and out confrontation, and will sometimes bite his tongue if it means keeping himself safe, even at the expense of others. These two natures war within him, and often times he'll make sincere and honest attempts to make up for his cowardice, especially when someone else became a victim as a result. Mugen didn't have much interest at all in his old schools curriculum. He learns what he wants to learn, what interests him, and basically disregards everything else. If he can't use the information he's being given, he discards it and does something more interesting to him instead. Mugen enjoys getting out of the lab. Fresh air and sunlight are usually toxic to the average geek or nerd, but for Mugen they're vital necessities. When he's outside, his mind is free to roam, and he can enjoy it. There's no tech distracting him unless he wants there to be, no work to be done unless he wants to do it. He could easily shut out the natural world and focus solely on the digital, but he'd much rather enjoy both lives to the fullest, and improve both worlds with his skills and abilities. Personal History: Mugen was always good with machines. Whether they were his toys, or his parent's tech, Mugen seemed to figure them out quickly, with little assistance on the part of his mother and father. The Sugiyama family was by no means rich, but they were well enough off that Mugen never really wanted for anything. He was born in Kyoto, and raised there by loving parents, who saw to it that the boy went to good schools, and did well in class. They were constantly pressuring him, urging him to excel. Failures were not well received in the Sugiyama, and Mugen was often forced to spend more time studying than playing with other kids ad making friends. As a result, he wasn't exactly a social butterfly at his old school. He ran from girls, fled from bullies, had had only been successful in gathering a handful of actual friends. His powers manifested when he was thirteen. He didn't really notice anything changing at first. One day, while he was typing out a report paper due for one of his classes, he got tired and stood up to stretch, and walk around his room a little bit. His mind was still on the report, going over the different ways he could structure the paragraph he was writing. When he came back to the computer, he was shocked to discover that everything he had been thinking had been typed out in the word processor. He panicked a little at first, to be certain, but then he began practicing with this odd little quirk. He found it to be a bit like a muscle: The more he used it, the stronger it got. Before long, he was thinking commands, and the computer was obeying. He was accessing places on the hard drive and in the operating system that he'd never been before, and he enjoyed it. Fast forward to a year later, and Mugen had a much better life. His talent for running and fleeing from anything perceived as danger had also become a useful asset as he joined the track team. Track team took more control from his parent's hands, granted him more freedom and time to himself, and he used that time. Along with his talent for running, his ability had grown, and now he could see and interact with the various signals, frequencies, and networks around him, altering their input and output, halting and removing commands, while making new ones entirely. He was learning more about his abilities every day, and his daily jogs turned into potent opportunities for monetary gain. He took to tracking the signals for ATMs, and when he located one, he would use his abilities to cause the camera to fail. Once that was done, he'd approach and use his technopathic abilities to link into the computer's bank accounts, skim a few hundred yen off the top of several accounts, then hide his trail and jog away with his money. It was crime, certainly, but he never took more than anyone would miss. He picked his accounts carefully, never taking money from anyone below a certain bracket. His extracurricular activities, however, were taking away from his school time. He began tinkering and repairing electronics, using his ability to locate and process information about anything he happened to be working on, then using his funds to buy whatever parts he needed. Though he was learning an invaluable skill, it was detracting from his grades in school. Before long, his parents took notice, and the school threatened to take away his track team privileges. Unwilling to allow that, he broke into the school at night, and tried to change his grades in the school's servers. In his panic, he forgot that his school papers were evidence to his bad grades and poor attendance, and before he could make an attempt to correct this, he was caught by police from a passing squad car, who had seen his flashlight and come up to investigate. He was in deep trouble, and his parents were unable, and unwilling to do much to help. He was given option by a man who wasn't with the police station staff. If Mugen agreed to finish his high school term at Shin Hyakuji High School, then his record would be expunged, and all of this would be forgotten. Mugen didn't have to take long to consider it. He loved his parents, but as far as he was concerned, they were focused on the wrong things. He didn't need schooling, not really. It was a convenience. But a record would put him on the map, and that was bad. This way, he got the mark of his record, he had someplace to live for the next four years, and he was away from his parents. Mugen took the deal and never looked back. Arriving at the school, he was alarmed to find that it was very different from anywhere else he had been...his kind of different. He was given a class schedule, and a room to stay in until the following day, when he would start his classes. He couldn't wait. Mashed Potatoes?
