[Continued from Blood Covered Curse]

As for Seth, he would find that the stairs led to, well, just two rooms, both of which were exactly what Seiko said they were.

Restrooms. One for boys and one for girls. The men's room was boarded up, which confused Seiko.
"Eh? The male restroom wasn't boarded up earlier... who did this?" she wondered aloud.

Still, the room of interest was indeed the girl's bathroom, and looking inside showed a regular bathroom complete with sinks and toilet stalls. And like everything else in this godforsaken place, everything was trashed. The mirrors were whole, oddly enough, but the sinks were dry. No water could be coaxed from the faucets, as if something was clogging them. In fact, clumps of black hair could be seen clogging the drains and even the faucets themselves.

As for the stalls, none of them seemed particularly odd, though... one had a black, human sized stain not unlike a filled in chalk outline from a crime scene right in front of it.

If Seth opened it, he would find a noose hanging from the ceiling over the toilet, and a faint breeze of wind that couldn't be placed for some reason.

Was this some kind of invitation to kill himself? Or was there more to this? If he tried to go back downstairs for help, he would find that the rest of the group was gone... and a huge gaping hole was in their place! It would be as if the school decided to break the rest of the second floor and leave him stranded upstairs!

...That's a strange layout by itself, a floor with only the restrooms... Though he supposed he can check around this place quicker before going back down to meet the rest of- "Wh- hey, don't follow me, stay with the others!" The young man jumped slightly in surprise, never noticing the girl from earlier had followed him up the steps. "...Aah, never mind..." He added with a sigh, moving past the boarded up boys restroom straight to the girl's one. It wasn't boarded up earlier...? Who else had been here? "...Let's just take a quick look around, then we're meeting back with the others,"

A bit silly of him to expect the girl's bathroom would at least look nice, it was just as derelict as the rest of this place... wherever this is. And maybe a tad bit creepier, considering they had split up and now it's just... a bit too quiet. The young man visibly frowned everywhere he looked, randomly turning on one of the faucet not expecting anything to actually come out of it.

He's not even sure what to look for here, aside from... well. Hard to miss that one stall, what's with that human-sized chalk outline on it... Seth took a sharp breath, pausing in hesitation motioning Seiko to stay where she is as he approached the stall and pushed open the door.

A slight unexpected breeze of wind coming from the stall, and the sight of a noose hanging ominously from the ceiling.

No doubt the surprise stunned him for a moment, before quickly tearing his eyes away from the noose, closing the stall door behind him. Nope, he's not staying here. Not any longer than he's supposed to. "...There's nothing here..." He said to Seiko after a moment of silence, briskly walking towards the exit and motioning the girl to follow him. "Come on, let's go and meet up with the others,"

...He would no sooner than later be dejected, as he saw the path down the stairs were gone, replaced by a giant gaping hole that leads down to the unending darkness below. "...Shit..."

Seiko seemed to balk at the aforementioned stall, sensing some kind of weird vibe from it. So much so that when Seth checked on it, she refused to look with him and promptly stepped out of the restroom.

"...There's nothing here..." Seth said as he stepped out.
Seiko sighed. While this meant that Naomi wasn't hurt, that also meant that Naomi wasn't here. Nor was there any clue to find her.
"Come on, let's go and meet up with the others," he said, and motioned for her to follow.
"Allright. Sorry, I... was just hoping she was here too... that's why I followed..." she said as she followed Seth.

... The walk that followed was short lived as she almost stumbled into Seth, who stopped near the edge of the hole that replaced where their friends were supposed to be waiting.
"No way!" Seiko reeled back in horror. "They were just there a second ago! There wasn't even an earthquake or a noise, so why..."

With nowhere else to go, she panicked and ran back up towards the restrooms again...

"What- hey, Seiko! Get back here!" ...A bit ironic here, but he REALLY doesn't want her to be separated, even if there is nowhere else to go up on this floor. But then again, a giant hole just appeared out of nowhere without warning so there's no telling what's going to happen... "Seiko? Where are you, don't go running off by yourself..." He said as he made his way to the girl's bathroom, REALLY hoping she didn't go into THAT stall. "Come on now, let's... I dunno, we can try looking around or something... Seiko?"

What else is there to be found? I mean yeah, there's the boy's bathroom but it's not like he can just tear the boards apart...

...

Wait, he can, can't he?

It wouldn't make any sense to go into a room that was still boarded up, though all things considered, none of the things in this place made any sense either.

Thankfully, this situation at least did, as a noise could be heard from the girl's restroom.

...

A worrying, thudding noise coming from THAT exact stall.

...

There was also a muted gurgling noise.

...

Maybe Seth should check on the -

Whatever momentary idea he had earlier were completely washed out from his mind by a sudden wave of shock and terror at the sight of Seiko hanging by the noose in the same stall he had tried to avoid earlier. Stunned and unmoving, for a good few seconds he stared in a horrified blankness at the girl choking herself to death-

...Wait a moment WHAT IS HE DOING?! "YOUMA!!"

FLASH!!!

A bright flash of light followed by another person appearing from out of nowhere, a certain half-phantom Kotoka Youma leaped up into the air with the Hakurouken in her hand, slashing at the noose blindingly fast-!

Well, it would seem that Heavenly Host Elementary School isn't very good at keeping things out of its dimension. Though all things considered, that's kind of what it does. Unfortunately, it trades the ability to keep things out for the ability to keep things in.
This means that Youma cannot leave this realm for the remainder of their stay, at least, not through conventional means (read: none). If she attempted to try and leave, she would find herself unable to do so (and possibly bitch at Seth about that).

But at least it did the job and got Seiko down from her noose! Ropes aren't as indestructible as everything else in this damned place, thankfully.

Seiko coughed violently and writhed on the floor as she tried to get air back into her lungs. Hopefully Seth was nice enough to try and get the rest of the noose off of her...
"HACK... Naomi... COUGH... why... why did you..."

... Wait, Naomi? That girl was involved somehow? Ho-

CLACK.

The feeling of a breeze increased as the sound of something unclicking itself from its latch was heard. A panel gave way on the wall behind the stall, and it looks like a small door...

"Seiko! It's... it's alright! You're fine, you're fine..." Seth said frantically as he set the girl down on the floor after catching her, helping the girl take off the remaining rope around her neck. God, he wasn't thinking about whether it would work or not... Not that it matters, he actually could summon Youma here, but... what would have happened had it not worked...

"What, you called me here just for that?" ...The half-phantom however, doesn't seem to fully share his sentiment, flicking Hakurouken lightly as she rested it on her shoulder, glancing around the derelict bathroom in disinterest. "I thought it might've been something important like a monster or something... bleh, and Gargantia was TV too,"

Though after a moment of looking around, her current mindset is slowly being replaced by curiosity and interest of this place, the half-phantom girl sniffing the air expectantly for any trace of foreign emotional residue unlike anything she has ever smelled... "...Ne, where are we anyway?" Youma asked, turning to the only one whom could probably answer her... even if it was with half-informed answer.

"I... I don't even know myself..." Seth muttered in response, partly still busy making sure Seiko is alright. "We were... doing some sort of ritual in one of the classroom, I dunno if you've heard of it, Sachiko-something, but... there was an earthquake and a large hole opened up and then we're here,"

...So what was all that chasing the school troll all about some pictures anyway...? Youma thought skeptically with a frown, before her attention was then directed towards the click at the back of the bathroom stall, revealing itself to be a small door of a sort... "Mm... well, it can't hurt to explore around a little bit, hm~?" The half-phantom said in a surprisingly light tone considering her lack of knowledge on the situation, stepping past Seth and Seiko as she wrenched the small door open with Hakurouken. "What's with that girl anyway? And tell me more about this place while we go along,"

...Aah... she's too eager for her own good... Seth thought uneasily, hesitating for a moment before deciding it's just not a good idea to idle around. They have to look for... I dunno, something... or someone...

Speaking of someone... "Hey, you said something about... your friend Naomi earlier..." He asked, motioning Seiko to go through the small door after Youma. "...What about her? Was she here?"

Naomi managed to get some air back into her lungs long enough to try and answer Seth's question about Naomi. "Naomi was... she... she tried to kill me!..."

... What?

"I... I ran up the stairs, and there she was near the restroom. I was so happy to see her again... I thought that what I said to her made her mad and run off, so... I was glad to see that she was okay..." she explained. "But she... she was surrounded by this... black mist. She suddenly reached for me and I found myself paralyzed... And there was this... black... dead fat guy with a hammer behind her, as if overseeing everything... next thing I knew..."

Quote:

... She carried me with inhuman strength, as if the darkness was empowering her or something... and she made me stand on a rusted bucket. Even though my arms were free, some kind of force kept me from moving at all! All I could do was watch helplessly as Naomi looked back at me with those... lifeless eyes... eyes that were not her own...

And then...

"Naomi! Please, stop it!"

She slowly wrapped the noose around my neck while the zombie watched. All I could do was scream in horror, but... Naomi... she...
"Naomi!... Please! Don't do this! This isn't like you!"
She wouldn't stop wrapping and tightening it around my neck. Was she afraid of what the zombie would do if she refused? Was she being controlled? I don't know. All I know was that this wasn't the Naomi that I loved! She would never do something like this of her own free will!...

All I could do was scream...

"PLEASE! WAKE UP! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE, WAKE UP, NAOMI!"
Posted Image

And then...

KICK

"HUAGGHHHH!"

"Why would you do that, Naomi!?... Did this goddamned place finally drive you insane!?" she sobbed as she smacked her head lightly against Seth's chest for lack of anything else she could do.

... However, something was wrong with this story. Surely such a series of events would take a LOT longer than the time it took Seth to run up the stairs. Did Seiko, in the brief moment that Seth lost sight of her, get spirited away and become subjected to this treatment, similar to how their friends suddenly disappeared without warning?

Either way, even Youma would feel something... weird yet familiar about Seiko, but at the moment it couldn't be placed. All she (and Seth, for that matter) would probably notice was how the bruise on her neck from the noose seemed to... get darker for no reason, even after the noose was gone. It wasn't a normal kind of darkening either, but one that seemed... ominous.

Meanwhile, the door would reveal that there was a ladder that led down to a small, damp alcove in the first floor. Opening the door in that alcove would lead to a small cabinet in a kitchenette of sorts that had a TV, a non-working heater and a sink. Random newspaper article clippings were strewn across the floor in a small heap. There was also a small chest that was unlocked.

... Let's not worry about the implications of a room that led DIRECTLY TO THE GIRL'S LAVATORY and worry more about what else might be of interest in the room...

...Well that wasn't exactly the most pleasant of answers... Certainly a grim tale if anything. If Seiko's story is to be believed (and he has absolutely zero reason think otherwise)... Friends turning against each others, ghost and evil spirits controlling people against their own will... Living dead...? I mean it's not like he's not used to all these supernatural stuff going on, but come on...

This place is dangerous and there's no denying it... he has to find the others fast...

And... get the hell out of this place, however they're supposed to do it...

The rise in the feel of urgency isn't really helping matters though, but at the very least they've got some new lead in this path leading to a room... downstairs, apparently. Not gonna ask why is there a ladder leading up to a girl's bathroom. Seth went down last after Youma and Seiko, and was about to walk around and look for anything that might be of interest before the half-phantom suddenly yanked him aside, away from Seiko. "Auu- w-what's up?"

"I don't like that girl," The half-phantom girl spoke in a hushed manner under her breath, only just loud enough for Seth to hear him. "No- don't look at her, listen to me!" She hissed angrily at Seth as he unconsciously turned around to look at Seiko, only to have his attention be pulled back by the sharp edge of Hakurouken on his cheek. "Wh- Youma! Put that away, that's dange-"

"That girl isn't normal," Youma continued in her less than a whisper of a voice, drawing away Hakurouken and tapping it on her shoulder, pretending to be glancing around the room in search of clues. "I don't know where and how you found her, but I'm not gonna feel safe being together with something I don't know about..."

...'Something'? Shouldn't it be 'someone'...? "Here,"

All of a sudden the half-phantom held out Hakurouken to Seth, the latter staring at her, a bit taken aback by her sudden gesture before hesitantly taking the sword from her. "Hakurouken has the ability to dispel confusion. Not to mention being my own spirit weapon, it can harm souls and spirit as effectively as any flesh, blood and bones,"

She said to him with a hard gaze into his eyes before turning around, giving a very momentary glance at Seiko before walking away.

It took Seth quite a while to realize why she told him that. And the realization was not something he's looking forward to.

Come now... it doesn't have to come to that, right...?

...No, don't worry, she doesn't have any proof... It wouldn't come to that, don't overthink it... Seth told himself, taking a deep breath as he held the spiritual sword low, yet never really relinquishing his grip on it, making his way back towards Seiko with a reassuring smile. "Aah, sorry about that... We had some... talk, about defending ourselves, considering this place might be dangerous..." He said lightly, lowering himself down to her height and patting the girl on the head.

It was only then did he notice the darkening mark around her neck. "...Owh, that's... that's a pretty bad looking bruise..." He added worriedly, though considering the unnatural nature of it, he was pretty sure that... does not look like it would spell anything good.

Meanwhile, Youma walked around the small kitchen, looking around the little snippet of newspaper articles strewn across the ground before getting back up to her feet from her knees. She noted a small chest nearby, curiosity overtaking her as she moved up to it to open it.

Seiko visibly gasped when she saw Seth holding a sword when they reached the bottom of the ladder, but was reassured when he explained that it was for self-defense. "Listen, please, if we see Naomi... don't use that on her, even if she tries to attack us. She's not herself! I'm worried about her..."

It was certainly noble of her to forgive Naomi for what she did, but... like Youma said, things were strange in this place, and Seiko didn't seem to be an exception.
"...Owh, that's... that's a pretty bad looking bruise..." Seth remarked, causing Seiko to whimper and feel her neck.
"Please don't say that... it's kind of embarrassing. Not to mention it just gives me chills to remember what happened just now..." she said. Then her eye caught something on the pile of newspaper clippings, and she reached out to the pile to read it aloud:

Breaking News: Serial Kidnapping Ends In Murder

The good name of Heavenly Host Elementary School has been stained in blood today as horrific details on the recent wave of disappearances are revealed.

Over the past month, numerous children have gone missing within the town, and authorities quickly turned to kidnapping as the most likely explanation. Now investigators have located the whereabouts of these children, and their findings are far worse than anyone could've anticipated. The bodies of the absconded youths were discovered within the Heavenly Host Elementary School building on September 18th, 1973 at around 7:00 PM. Authorities further revealed that a male instructor from the school was found with them, alive but near-catatonic, holding a pair of bloodied scissors.

Each of the corpses appeared to have had its tongue sev__ed and remove_________________ique mutilations far too grot___________________g to describe.

"Hey... I saw this earlier..." Seiko said afterwards. "What do you make of this, Seth-san?"

Meanwhile, Youma was able to open the chest and acquire:

A... piece of crystal?

Youma would feel some kind of holy power emanating from said stone, so perhaps it would be wise not to discard it...

That said, if they tried to open the door and get out, they would find it locked from the inside for some reason. It looked like they needed a key, but... where could it be?

"...Lemme have a look..." Seth asked Seiko for the newspaper clipping, already having that sense of ominousness and dread just from listening to her reciting the excerpt. As he began reading it for himself, he thought it couldn't get any worse.

Unwillingly his mind flashed back to a certain writing on the wall they had passed much earlier when they just got here...

The writing on the wall...

[Heavenly Host Elementary - Notice to all Faculty and Students]:

Due to the recent kidnappings, caution is highly recommended during all daily activities. In each instance, the victim was taken quickly and instantaneously, so please KEEP CALM AND DON'T DIE TOO SOON OR IT WON'T BE AS FUN

...His heart may have skipped a beat or two at the realization of where they are... And the possible situation that may be going on here...

Meanwhile...

She's not gonna ask where did that soundtrack came from the moment she opened the chest, that's another person's job. Nevertheless, there is indeed something in the chest that might be of interest... "Well this seemed out of place..." The half-phantom muttered to herself, picking the crystal from the chest and examined it, sensing the holy energy emanating from the crystal...

...Eesh, not exactly her type... Considering her past life as the Calamity Demon she seemed to have a certain aversion to the crystal... slightly frowning in dislike at the crystal in her hand. "Oi Seth, you might want to keep this," The girl said curtly, tossing the crystal out to Seth before turning her attention back to the surroundings. Anything in the drawers... or maybe the... heater? Behind the television?

Seth only just barely caught the crystal after fumbling about with it due to his mind being occupied with something else. For someone with no actual supernatural affinity, the crystal seemed somewhat unremarkable to him. "Why would..." He thought to himself, staring at it blankly for a second before deciding to put it in his pocket. Where he would then realize something else he had been keeping around that he had completely forgotten.

The piece of paper from the paper doll, still safe in his pocket. Which then prompted him to ask Seiko, "Wait, Seiko, you said you and your friends did the Sachiko ritual, didn't you? Do you still have any little piece of paper from the paper doll?"

...He honestly doesn't know how much of a significance it's going to have or how much it's going to help, but...

Seiko sadly shook her head at Seth's question. "I lost mine when we were trapped in a classroom with this same newspaper article in it. Even after Suzumoto told us to make sure not to lose it..."

It was at that point that she lowered her voice a bit. "Um, is she also another victim of the ritual? Where did she come from, anyway?" she asked, not wanting to incur Youma's anger. After all, even though Youma saved her, she could feel that the new girl didn't trust her that much...

Meanwhile, Youma's foraging through the heater yielded:

A... small bloody bag?

It was big enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and one could stuff a small body part in it. Like perhaps a finger. Or a tongue. Which is exactly what was inside it.

... Ewww.

There was also a key in it.

The bag had a label on it: Tokiko Tsuji. Maybe the person who used to own the key AND the tongue? The newspaper article did mention something about tongues...

...Admittedly he's not sure of what the exact consequences would be for losing the piece of paper, or if there would be any consequences at all... Honestly he'd rather think it wouldn't matter, but- "Eeeey, Seth! I found a key!"

Train of thought interrupted, as Youma came hopping towards them waving the blood-stained key and the bag in front of him. "It was in this bag with a tongue inside it, I found it in the heater. You want it?"

"...I don't think you should... Gah, n-never mind, just put that thing away, jeez..." He added with a hint of displeasure in his voice, gingerly taking the key from the half-phantom. Never mind how impassive Youma sounded at the fact that she's holding a bloody bag with a severed tongue inside it. "A-anyway, come on, let's get out of here and find the others..." He said, briskly making his way towards the door. He's seriously not sure where they would go after this, just walk around and hope they would bump into someone...?

Goddammit...

Seiko decided to leave the question of the relationship between Seth and Youma be. It was probably not her place to ask at this point.
"If you have your piece of paper, you should keep it. As weird as this may sound, I think it could be your way out," Seiko said. "To be honest, I... I really don't know if I can get out of here anymore. I just want to see Naomi again... and maybe help save her..."
As she said that, the wound on her neck would seem to... pulsate and throb. Even eerier, Seth would hear the faint sound of a heartbeat in time with the throbbing.

The moment he would try to tell her about it, it would stop, and Seiko would only look at him with and ask what was wrong, possibly making things feel awkward.

The key was able to unlock the room, and they would find themselves on the ground floor. It was a dead end to the left of the door, so that left the hallway on their right. It was too dark to see from their position, but they would find that it split into a path that kept going straight to another locked classroom, and a path on the left, leading towards the stairs that led back up.

That said, they did have a key. But would it also fit in that locked classroom?

Regardless of where they went, Seiko decided to ask a question anyway. "So wait... what's this Hyakuji High School place really like anyway? I've only heard that it's a place that has people with powers or something... I didn't really want to ask out loud since it felt rude..."
Yeah, something to keep the conversation going while they decided on what to do next.
