Due to personal relative inactivity, which was due to health reasons and such rather than choice, I've designed these changes to be relatively minor with a stipulated point at which they expand later on as I "catch up". This is marked as "Flavor" and "Future" respectively.

Character Name: Yuzuki Saito (Western name order)
Gender: Female.
Age: 17.
Height: 5'7", or 170.18 cm.
Weight: 135 pounds, 61 kilograms.
Music: Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind (Orchestrated Arrangement)
Voice: Kikuko Inoue

Description or Image of Character Appearance:

Sketch:

Posted Image

Occupation: Student
Grade Level: Graduated
Powers/Abilities:

Nation-Building: Yuzuki is capable of creating land. Out of nothing, stone, sand, or highly fertile soil can be generated. This does not exert her in any way, however she is only capable of creating up to a 5 x 5 x 5 square meter volume of land in a single day. Not necessarily all at once, of course. The land can only be created either from her touch, or from an object she is touching (including the ground she's standing on), with a 2 meter limit of effect. Some may refer to this as "gaiamancy", though she refers to it exclusively as nation-building.

In practice, Yuzuki typically only seeks to nourish and expand land with her ability. She does take care not to interfere with bodies of water significantly. Believing in non-violence, she nonetheless recognizes the necessity of being able to protect others. If forced to protect others, never only herself unless in extreme danger, Yuzuki will prefer to rely on her swords if available, detailed below. If she is absolutely forced to fight without any sort of weaponry, she will very reluctantly use her ability for offense. This consists of creating and shaping earth into whatever she needs for the moment. Typically she will attempt to restrain an enemy via entombing them in compacted soil or even stone up to the neck. She respects the dignity of all life, and thus refuses to use her ability to kill, and will even attempt to use it to impede others who intend to, even to protect an enemy she herself immobilized. If absolutely forced in a situation to kill, she will strongly prefer to use her swords instead of her gift. She considers her gift a sign of favor from the gods, and treats it as a sacred task.

That said, the unliving, dead, or mechanical receive no such mercy, deadly spires of obsidian lancing from her surroundings.

A trivial aspect of her ability manifests unconsciously when she walks on barren land. Fertile soil will expand from her footsteps if she walks on a lifeless expanse.

Onna Bugeisha: Yuzuki is a trained Onna Bugeisha, or, simply put, female samurai. This is tradition in her family, and she dislikes the idea of actually using her weapons against a living target, though she is nevertheless not one to slack off her training. Yuzuki has come to view it as spiritual training more than physical. Semantics aside, when in full armament and armor, Yuzuki wields an impressive arsenal of 4 blades. A Nodachi, a katana, a wakizashi, and a tanto. She has not named them, and only uses one at a time, though is capable of switching very quickly due to her mastery of iaijutsu. Indeed, much of her fighting style comes from drawing, slashing, and sheathing her weapons in rapid succession, creating a varied assault of different speeds and ranges based on which weapon she's drawn.

Yuzuki has laid down her swords, refusing to use tools of war anymore. She intends to train in martial arts, but currently lacks any proficiency. Not even that. To be fair, not terribly necessary.

Knowledge of Shinto: Self-explanatory. Yuzuki has great faith in native deities and spirits, carrying charms and ofuda on her person at all times. Naturally, her knowledge of Shinto lore and myth is extensive.

Knowledge of Dharma: As above, now with Buddhism!

Tao: Eyup.

Hobbies: Yuzuki is gifted at calligraphy, and spends time honing her nation-building ability by creating small yet artistic kanji statues from jade after having practiced writing the kanji on paper with ink and a calligraphy brush. Additionally, and rather predictably given her ability, Yuzuki keeps an extensive garden filled with herbs, fruit, and vegetables. She is entirely capable of cooking using her home-grown ingredients, and often brings food to school, either fresh produce or simple-yet-tasty meals. She has hidden this garden someplace on campus, and where exactly it is is a secret only she knows. She never seems to run out of fresh produce to bring in, so one can assume that it somehow survives every catastrophe the school endures.

Eight-Fold Magokoro:

A (nearly) pure, sincere heart granted by the kami and Yuzuki's firm beliefs and benevolent nature combined with a partially-enlightened mind. This is as much a personality trait as it is a divine gift, balancing inner and outer definition. Through serenity and compassion, Yuzuki embraces Buddhist and Shinto ideals of existence. Yuzuki has ceased to see herself as an individual and more as a part of a greater unity. There is no distinction between spirits and living, heaven and earth, or one and another. A subtle confidence radiates from her, and she has ceased to pray to the Shinto spirits, instead thinking of herself as lover of them and all. She believes that all will join her in enlightenment eventually, and is thus unworried about much. Wisdom, compassion, and satisfaction fill her every moment, each step in time being a joyous celebration of loving unity.

With this new heart, Yuzuki gains several (minor) abilities.

Radiant Spirit: One who observes Yuzuki will immediately be aware of an extreme benevolence and love. This is usually just thought of as intuition or observing the obvious, though those with acute spiritual senses will know the reality of her state.

True Freedom: Yuzuki acknowledges that nothing can truly harm her, as she is part of anything that tries to. While her body may be injured or worse, Yuzuki has lost all fear, anxiety, or regret. She is capable of feeling pain, but no longer cares, nor will she show external signs of physical pain.

Sunlit Soul: For beings of evil and ill-intent, Yuzuki is kryptonite. Looking at her is like staring at the sun itself, and the more malevolent a being is (or is thinking), the more unpleasant it is to be in Yuzuki's presence. This does not cause harm, but all who seek to hurt others will feel very uncomfortable around her, as if there was an itch somewhere they could never scratch.

Inspire Potential: At Yuzuki's touch, if she wills it, an individual will see a glimpse of themselves at their (extrapolated) full potential in life. The mental image isn't perfectly accurate, and she knows that. Rather than being an image of the exact future, it represents an ideal possibility that the individual could theoretically achieve if they worked towards it. The sheer inspiration this vision brings can also be a source of hope and strength for the viewer. Additionally, this will "unlock" the inner power a person has, and allow them to begin to tap into it. This does not allow for immediate power boosts, but can be a source of future season upgrades for the person. The person whose inner power is unlocked will, however, feel an immense rush of confidence and self-esteem as they realize just how strong they really can be.

Calming Voice: Yuzuki's voice has a supernaturally beautiful, soothing quality to it. Listening to her voice calms down raised tempers and hostility, instilling feelings similar to being in a hot bath or other relaxing environment. This can, of course, be resisted and even ignored by those feeling intense hostility. She is not aware of this ability, she instead thinks that she's just good at helping cool down arguments. This ability also affects her singing voice, making her sound like a trained, skilled singer even without much experience. The intended emotion of any song Yuzuki sings is conveyed extremely well to listeners. (It's also very handy for lullabies to help children sleep!)

Bond of Unity: (Prior Season Upgrade)

Yuzuki's presence amplifies the abilities of those around her that share a common goal or motivation, proportional to the number of people present (i.e., within perceptive distance of each other). The more people that are committed to a cause, the greater the boost she provides, in other words. Yes, it does also count herself, as well as named NPCs. If for some reason a player wishes for their character(s) not to receive any of the benefits, they can of course opt out of the effect OOC with a justification such as an unexpected resistance to it.

As addressing just how any individual ability would be amplified through this would be an ever-shifting infinite nightmare, this ability instead functions by granting new temporary abilities to those present and "unified" with Yuzuki.

The abilities granted are given in order of number of people required, and of course stack. Note that Yuzuki herself is counted in the numbers.

2+: Inspire

Under this effect, Yuzuki and anyone else unified with her gain a strong, hopeful, brave resolve.

3+: Link

Under this effect, indirect, silent communication is possible. This is, if ever relevant, a telepathic effect, though Yuzuki herself unconsciously regulates the Link effect, so those with different languages or even incompatible psychology can speak to each other without trouble or danger. It's worth noting that this is not shared mind-reading, so it's not a problem if, for example, The Doctor gets involved with the effect. It's just the characters being able to send and receive thoughts to each other if they want to.

4+: Protect

At this point, effects happen. Just WHAT those effects are vary from character to character, they can be anything from a new set of clothes, armor, a battle aura, a giant flowing cape, an event happening nearby, a sound or even piece of music coming out of nowhere, whatever. The effects correspond to the character in question's personality, however, at their writer's discretion. So for example, a really hot-headed and tempermental character might get a (cosmetic) wreath of fire. This doesn't serve to just make people look cool, of course (though that is absolutely the point), it actually has the effect of providing a "defensive buffer" that mildly reduces the amount of force or energy being directed at the character.

Even if the effect doesn't cover their whole body (if visible at all) the protection still applies all over. Someone getting a thunderclap is just as protected as someone who gets a cape, and they're both just as protected as someone who gets a full-blown suit of battle armor.

5+: Champion

At this number, those unified with Yuzuki can donate their all their benefits (which then become boons unique to the giver) to another person unified. This can be done multiple times. An example:

6 characters are unified. The situation makes it clear that only one of them, let's say the one who can fly, is much more suited to the task at hand than all the others. The other 5 characters can then donate their benefits of being unified to the "Champion" character. Or, if only 2 characters could fly out of the 6, the other 4 could split into 2 pairs, each pair donating their benefits to the recipient, resulting in 2 "Champions".

Multiple benefits stack, of course, and they vary in minor, though cumulative, effects. Donated benefits tend to correspond to the nature of the giver. For example, Yuzuki herself is (notoriously) loving and motherly, so she'd donate an increase to endurance and tranquil focus.

So if someone had 4 other characters donating benefits to them, they would gain a significant increase in their strength, speed, willpower, etc. along with some pretty flashy glitz courtesy of the multi-stacked Protect effects. Someone with 12 characters donating benefits to them, likewise, would be getting a very huge cocktail of boosts and Michael Bay levels of theatrics.

?+: Special

If a truly enormous number of people are gathered together behind one cause together, such as in some hypothetical plot climax in which everyone, even unnamed characters assumed to be present, in Hyakuji is together, the effects would logically continue further, but would need a case-by-case judgment. Usually fromstaff, or whoever is running the thread/event in question.

The most unlikely, but still technically possible, extreme situation would be when some kind of additional special circumstance is in place. Such as some sort of "an entire country of people is able to give support via some sort of projection effect" situation. For something of THAT extreme nature, I have absolutely no idea what scale of effect would happen, but it'd probably be impressive, though again, this is the least probable thing to ever actually occur.

Season Upgrade June 2014

Flavor:

Yuzuki, closing her eyes for a moment to calm herself, can enter a state of complete and utter focus. She does not think or feel, merely acts, attuned to a more expansive awareness. It is a cessation of ego yet an embrace of intuitive being. It is a unified consciousness without concern, fear, negativity, desire, or self. Think of it as a Zen/Tao sort of thing.

This does not change what she can do in any way, it is merely a state of mind. Those who can see auras or otherwise visualize spiritual whatsits will

Future: N/A

Pure flavor after all. Even still:

Consider this her "Shin Yuzuki" sort of state, as she's not letting anything inhibit her. Keep in mind what she can already do.

Yuzuki's Job: Daycare Worker

Yuzuki works at Happy Hyakuji Daycare in the city, caring for children 5 days a week. She is considered a part-time employee, but makes sure that she has a few hours a day every day of the week save for Sundays and Mondays. The children love Yuzuki very much, and she loves them right back as if they were all her own kids. On Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, children from various orphanages around Hyakuji visit the daycare center, and Yuzuki is always certain to show them the love she feels they deserve. Hyakuji orphans aren't uncommon, due to the frequent disasters, attacks, and whatnot the city faces. Yuzuki protects the younger generation and acts as a loving mother figure for anyone in need.

There once was a power-drunk young adult who accidentally scared Yuzuki's younger children. Yuzuki's glare was sufficient to put an end to that. Needless to say, incidents like that gave Happy Hyakuji Daycare a very safe reputation, and parents are comfortable leaving their children in such care. The kids look up to Yuzuki with a mixture of awe and love. The kids with families call her "Yuzunee", the orphans have nicknamed her "Yuzu-mama". Anyone who calls her either name will immediately have Yuzuki cuddling them happily, eager to protect whoever regards her as family.

Equipment You Have:

-Furisode: Worn basically whenever not in school uniform or her armor. First picture. She'd wear a furisode to class if she was allowed to.
-Armor: Second picture, seldom used.
-Nodachi (distinct from the Sword of Samsara above), Katana, Wakizashi, and Tanto: Standard, unremarkable blades that have been through an adventure across time. That said, each of them has a talisman from the Hyakuji shrine attached to the hilt.
-Shiki-kun: That horse in the second picture is part of her character. She thinks of Shiki-kun more as a pet and companion than a steed, though she does sometimes ride him if she needs to get from one point to another quickly, rather than take public transportation. Given her casual approach to life, however, she does not need this regularly. Recently, Yuzuki has trained Shiki-kun for use as a cavalry horse, though she hopes never to need to endanger him like that.
(Season Upgrade) -Poisoned Hairpin: While her pocket space typically negates the need for concealed weaponry, Yuzuki keeps herself prepared just in case. A pin she uses to keep her hair tie wrapped tightly is actually a hypodermic needle filled with tranquilizer.

Residency Request: Fudo, though actually enjoys sleeping outdoors under a tree if she can get away with it.

Schedule:
Homeroom Teacher: Mare
Period 1: Phys Ed
Period 2: The Arts
LUNCH
Period 3: History

Personality Description:

Yuzuki is a mature, serene, and peaceful young woman who values tradition highly. She refers to her ability as nation-building, a hint of her perspective. Maternal and even protective of other students, Yuzuki sees her role in life to be a force of unification. Creating land and resources for those lacking in it and uniting people together through common bonds are her self-appointed tasks.

A deep pacifist, Yuzuki believes that diplomacy and the forging of bonds through common goals is the key to conflict resolution. Her family proudly regards her as a born leader, though she views herself more as an instrument through which others may prosper and grow. Not seeking much herself, she instead prefers to encourage others to develop.

Scholarly as well, Yuzuki studies traditional Japanese folklore and Shinto faith extensively. She believes in and will occasionally invoke the names of Shinto deities and spirits. This has recently expanded to include Buddhist faith and scripture.

Almost impossible to anger, Yuzuki projects an air of motherliness and compassion, often offering her counsel and opinion to help others. She will not hesitate to show affection to those who need it, and will often hug troubled students. Or cute people. (She goes a bit nuts over cuteness.) That having been said, she is not interested in relationships as she does not want to commit to only one person. Let's face it, a mature, compassionate, and maternal young woman who brings in tasty food all the time is going to be well-liked. The love and care she offers freely is not romantic, it is more like that of a family member, at least that is her intention.

Yuzuki's strong will and compassionate nature lead to a bit of naivety, however, as she is quick to forgive and hope for the best in people. Additionally, she has trouble with thinking outside of traditional, pre-existing concepts, and thus suffers from a deficit in creativity and problem-solving. This bothers her somewhat, but she isn't worried due to how she can always rely on others.

Yuzuki's Philosophy and Ethics: Much like I did for Ian, I wrote them all up in an in-character blog entry.

Personality Flaws:

Due to my own concerns, namely that Yuzuki can warp into a Mary Sue if I'm not careful, I'm listing her personality flaws and concerns separately for note.

One of the first and foremost ones is a hidden insecurity regarding herself. Namely, she fears that her personality, appearance, and upbringing undermine her messages about platonic love, being gentle, and compassion. Essentially, she would be crushed if someone told her "It's easy for someone pretty and popular to talk about loving everyone". Essentially, she fears becoming the ethical equivalent of a millionaire claiming that money doesn't buy happiness.

Her naive, trusting, forgiving nature can go too far, and it's entirely possible for her to be manipulated and taken advantage of by others. Rather than work to develop a better judge of character, Yuzuki relies on her friends to protect her from this problem. She has stated before that she does not believe in evil.

If she sees enemies or potential friends/lovers, Yuzuki will immediately begin trying to reconcile hostilities or pair them up. She's very insistent about the power of love, and fails to understand when it isn't welcome. This can even lead to her doing so with same-gendered people. Yuzuki can be considered openly bisexual, and she doesn't readily understand the idea of people just not being ABLE to love each other. A penchant for shounen-ai stories (nothing hardcore) can lead to funny moments, however. Yuzuki doesn't readily understand the desires behind physical love, and would likely mistake some random pervert complimenting her appearance and asking her out for someone who genuinely cared about her.

Yuzuki also desperately doesn't want to believe she's special in any sort of way, to the point of somewhat irrational denial. People calling her a nice person actually depress her a bit, because she wants to believe that everyone is kind and caring on the inside. From her perspective, complimenting her on her kindness is equivalent to saying "kindness isn't the default for most people", a concept she vigorously denies. This can make her seem quite humble, however.

She also feels a degree of guilt over her happy home. Having seen how tormented and tragic the lives of others can be, Yuzuki feels as though she was born into a happy family and had a happy childhood undeservedly. It isn't fair or right that she got to be a happy kid while others never knew their parents. Unable to do anything about simple chance and circumstance, she

Perfectionism, when applied to herself, also applies. Yuzuki holds herself to incredibly high standards and will become upset if she doesn't meet them. True to form, she doesn't hold nearly the same expectations for others.

And she's aware of her vulnerabilities, and is hurt by the nickname "Princess" given to her by Mina and Jin. She fears being a damsel in distress who dragged down everyone she cared about.

Personal History:

Born to the Saito family, Yuzuki quickly demonstrated her gift at a young age. Soil tended to appear around the young girl, and her tendency to suddenly be sitting on short mounds of fresh earth if let outside made it obvious she'd been born with something special. One incident in which she created clay to play with when bored was greatly amusing to her doting family.

Her family made every effort to educate and train Yuzuki, the young jewel of their heritage. Her highly traditional family brought her to the Hyakuji shrine frequently, giving the little girl a lifelong taste for the Shinto faith. Yuzuki's childhood passed without incident. Once she was age 12, she was prepared for a Hyakuji education and all the pandemonium that entailed. Frequently seeing the chaos the city itself faced, she grew very desensitized and tolerant of the typical Hyakuji antics. Quietly passing her freshman and sophomore years without incident, Yuzuki rarely spoke to anyone, merely bringing food in and occasionally consoling fellow students who needed it.

It was not until recently that she decided to become more active and outspoken, seeking to get to know her community better.

Entering her senior year, Yuzuki reflected on her junior year. She'd traveled through time to World War 2, and seen the absolute horror of war. Crushed for a time being, Yuzuki's faith in herself and basic goodness was renewed through meditation, prayer at the Hyakuji Shrine, and an increasing appreciation for Buddhist ideals. Coming to form her own view of life, Yuzuki carried that across time once more, to confront the Machine King.

Goodness triumphed. Giving the Machine King a name, Yuuki Hitagawa, Yuzuki was delighted when her wish to the Time Stones, that he be given a new chance in a new timeline to be Hyakuji's friend instead of an enemy, was granted and supported by her comrades. Now utterly convinced that goodness and gentle love could resolve anything, Yuzuki vowed to make her final year at Hyakuji High a special one.
