Suddenly No Powers?; Or did I miss that ship?

Here's something that I was just thinking about. Now, allow me to let you guys know how I came about this thought...

I was rereading some of my old posts during season 2 with the whole multi-verse thing. Now, it occurred to me that, with the theory of infinite parallel worlds where anything is possible, could it be that there is a universe in which Hyakuji was just a normal high school and that all of its students did NOT have any special abilities whatsoever?

And then I was brilliant.

As a plot suggestion for anything to help at all with stuff, what if one day people just began losing their powers. Like, they wake up and their powers are just... gone. It would be happening little by little--and at random--so no one can make out a pattern.
So, the students and smarter people begin researching into it. I have not thought about the solution to it. I was thinking villain with time travel who does some weird evil magic stuff. Back to the Future style.
... Help me out here, guys, I will admit to not being very sober at the moment.

Oh, and to top it off, I say another invasion to make things more urgent.

Anyway, yeah, I thought up an interesting problem.
You guys think you're down to do it?

Feedback, please? If you guys like it, we can improve it to an actual plot device...

Well, the thing is, people's powers have different origins. Some derived them biological experiments - so to affect them through time travel would involve trying to screw up the development of science. Others gain them from millenia old lines of magic - so you'd have to go back and mess with those. Some have have fantastic technology made by secret organisations, so how you'd go back and alter those is beyond me.

Time travel was my first thought, but I guess that ship is currently sailing huh... :P

Also, with the whole thing about taking powers from the past, I guess it's true that it's a little difficult to do considering the origins of everyone's abilities.
Then how about from the present then?

Do you guys think this plot is doable at all...?

Well, the other thing is whether or not it really works as a 'plot'. Maybe a one off event, like a movie, but it doesn't work as well if applied over a season.

It can probably be pulled off, but it won't be as great as other plots. Some people might avoid participating in such a plot because their characters might actually, say, outright die if they lost their powers, or cause complications in their own personal plotlines. There was a class thread that occurred some time ago that involved temporarily preventing students from using their powers in order to have them rely on their wits rather than brawn, and that made some people upset. Of course there's always the notion of 'suppressing' powers to possibly go around that issue, but I still see it as not really working out in the long run.
All of this is imo, though, and it's nice to see that someone is expressing their ideas for the best interests of the site.

Some people will bitch and moan. I mean it was part of the Halloween plot a few years ago and someone whined until they got removed from the event. That was why I got to participate. Anyways if it did happen I would of course start randomly posting in threads as dirtman. "The dirt would have been rather bothered by the people walking over it if it had any sort of mind whatsoever, which is doesn't because that would be silly."

That being said there are power blockers as part of the setting. They don't really show up that often but they're a thing.

I could see it messing up my characters. Primarily Runelle, but also Mira.

Runelle is literally ancient, and she's a metaphysical being to boot. Switching off magic could kill her.

Mira might be able to survive without magic, since she's young enough to where she's only as old as she looks. However, it would switch off her low-class shape shifting abilities, which would really cause some problems I'm not ready to get her in yet.

Ultimately, it'd probably be more trouble than it was worth. What Kradden said about suppressing powers makes more sense. Runelle would be willing to not use magic and Mira wouldn't have too much of a problem with it as much as she could keep her cover.

Anything with sweeping effects on every student on Hyakuji can not work. It will cause discontent and divisions and will make everyone less happy.

The idea of a world where powers did not exist happened, it was called Hiro's Halloween plot from The KH Arc. That is exactly what it was, and like Kaloo said, some people ragequit over it. And even if we were willing to bring another world into this, canonically, they're all gone. Hyakuji is de-linked from the multiverse. There can't be another dimensional invasion or crossover or unification. It just doesn't make sense continuity-wise.

Also just on a side note...Saying you were brilliant in thinking something up then immediately following it up by admitting you're not sober isn't exactly brilliant. Especially when said brilliant idea is, well, kinda forgetting the entire theme of this season.

Is that a boy or a girl? ...Yep.
I kinda like the idea, but I understand why it would upset some people. But there may be a few ways to at least make it sound a little more appealing...

What if it were a virus? Kinda the whole "zombie virus" cliche, but it just kinda turned people... normal? This way, it wouldn't necessarily kill off any who rely on powers to survive, such as elementals, zombies, or anything like that, and still gives them the ability to partake if they wish?

Even better, someone could partake in the event without partaking even having the negative effects happen to their character. For example, you have a student that's suffering from their ability, like a pyromancer that bursts into flame at random and is caused pain by it. They see other students "losing their abilities" and yearn for it too, but isn't infected by this virus or however this epidemic is spreading and is looking for a way to have it happen to them. So some are suffering because of it, some want it to stop their suffering, some have gotten it and are better off, and there are students that haven't contracted it yet and are looking to keep it that way. This could lead to a student body split, where half the students are looking for a cure and to rid Hyakuji of this problem, while the other half think they'd be better off with it.

I mean, this is only a suggestion. But this way, characters like Sayre's zombie, Runelle, and any others that have to have their ability simply become, more or less, "normal humans," so that their characters don't die, and it doesn't necessarily sweep the entire population, only those that the writers would like for it to.

Does this make the idea sound a little better to everyone?

There is also the factor of the Machine Empire having such a device that prevents us from using our powers. It was at the beginning of the arc, remember? Since we don't have much intel on them, the empire could just sting our characters during a Time Stone arc with those nano-darts to render our characters incapable of fighting back. Don't forget Future Hiro is also de-powered as well, and is keeping it a secret for some reason.

Depends on the availability of such things even to the Empire, and whether or not what works on one person will work on another. Not to mention this was clearly thought upon without considering the involvement of the Machine Empire.

Otherwise, point is. Potential idea, but not likely to work if put into effect in its original format. Needs more time to be thought out than a single week or so.
