The Book that is Hyakuji's Story has come to a close. However, there are still plenty of stories left to be told in the madcap Anime Universe it inhabits. So last year I was working on a Visual Novel project and due losing my main artist for the third time, I sort of fell into a depression with it and decided it'd be best if I postponed the project. I'm now at a place where I feel that I can pick back up the pieces and begin re-working it. I still love all my characters and my initial plot, however I do intend on changing a few minor things. Anyway, my purpose for making this thread is to ask you all how you get yourself inspired to be creative after being in a slump for so long? Thank you in advanced for nay input you give ^w^ |

The best way for me to become creative is to throw on some music and let the music guide me. I let all my music play as I think about my characters, thinking about situations that the music to fit. When I come upon something interesting, I write it down in txt doc and branch off of it. Another good way to get your creative juices flowing again is to become your character. Imagine walking in his/her shoes/heels within the setting or whatever. Think like your character and act like your character, think of things they might do or would like to do. Always write things down, even if you don't plan on doing it right away because you may look at it and it might trigger something else. |

I get my creative juices flowing by sitting on the bus for about 4 hours daily. I have a profanely long commute to get to the local community college, and as the trip takes 2 hours by multiple buses both ways, I have a lot of time to just think. Clear away all distractions, cue up some music, and let your train of thought go nuts. Alternatively, browsing TVTropes can sometimes yield inspiration for me. I sometimes hit the random article button until I find something that inspires me. Either a pre-existing work that expresses ideas that inspire, or tropes that do the same. Sometimes I just look at how a character is classified and I ask myself how I can do that better, for example. The last way I get the mojo flowing is by reading philosophy books. One look at anything Ian says and you can tell that I've read Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche, for example. Different philosophies and dilemmas, ethical questions, etc. all contribute to inspire different characters or situations. For example, the classic debate of Self vs. Community is embodied by the conflicts I've written in the past between several characters. And so on. |

@Canti Heehee. When I write for characters, I normally let their personality take over (except for Hayzel as he is more or less an extension of myself, well, more so than a normal character would be). Anyway, when I do that I'm able to write pretty well for them, even if I don't like the things they are doing. The only thing I can't dissociate is music XD I'm too, er, picky? So it's hard to write a character that has music tastes that differ from my own X3 So if I know a character should like a particular music that I don't care for, I find it hard to find music that helps me feel inspired to write for them, assuming they have a scene where they are a huge focus @.@ Anyone else have this problem or am I just an odd ball? @Pancake I feel your pain ;=; I used to have commute long distances to get to school, but I normally took that time to nap or do homework -w- (Not really sure why I shared that, must be for empathy sake <3) Anyway, regarding TV tropes, I have a hard time not clinging to cliches, wouldn't TVT be a bad idea for me? I see it as a list of cliche's, but I don't really frequent there so I could be misunderstanding what it is... Also, I need to go rebuy Beyond Good and Evil ;=;My grandma lost it T_T |
