- Ryoushou-Ryuu Kobudo (Pure Mist Style 凌霄流古武道)
A martial art that was first developed in China before being brought over to Japan by visiting monks, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu is a highly adaptive and customizable form of self-defense that is best characterized as a harmonized mixture of external and internal. A critical part in mastering this martial art is not to memorize forms and placement of body and limbs, but to understand the purpose behind each and every movement. As such, there will always be variations in how a practitioner goes about using this style due to interpretative expression, but will always have methods that accomplish the same goals. Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu encompasses many different aspects of self-defense, as martial arts were indeed meant for, and only meant for, self defense at the time Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu was developed. These disciplines include ground work, standing grappling and joint manipulation, open and closed hand striking, kicking, weapons training, and etc.
Separating Ryoushou-Ryuu combat from pure fist-fighting is their ability to project one’s Qi. This allows one to use their Qi as a direct weapon to either attack meridian crossroads via “tapping” (點穴 / dian xue) to cause temporary paralysis and numbness through nervous overloads and energy flow disruption. Qi can also be used as an extension of the body to cause both long distance cutting/piercing (無形劍氣 / wu xing jian qi) damage and/or blunt physical trauma (掌氣 / zhang qi) at a closer distance from the hands while unarmed. Additionally, Qi can be channeled into objects to make them and/or parts of the user’s body into enhanced and formidable makeshift weapons/armor, while still connected to the body, in their own right (运氣 / yun qi). Qi enhanced attacks are the result of Qi being channeled and held within an object (运氣), as opposed to 劍氣 and/or 掌氣, which are considered Qi projectile attacks. ((Details and mechanics of both Qi and Tapping are described in the spoiler tag at the bottom of this section.)) As a side note, Ryoushou-Ryuu’s channeling techniques sometimes causes temporary physical alterations to one’s appearance, among them, rapid growth and melanin degeneration of the practioner’s hair. However, these offensive applications of Qi are really all secondary effects that were originally not meant to be the main application. This style, as most Asian martial arts do, also trains the practitioner in vital, multi-purpose breathing techniques (呼吸吐納 / hu xi tu na) and health instruction. The breathing techniques not only help promote growth as well as maintain and balance the reservoirs of Qi within the body, it also allows the practitioner to learn how to channel this Qi to various other areas within their body in particular sequences to achieve a desired effect (內氣導引 / nei qi dao ying). Eventually, the practitioner begins to utilize these exercises to guide their Qi automatically, as all these exercises are doing is adjusting one’s own breathing pattern to achieve a maximal benefit. As the body itself finds this a desirable result, it “learns” the exercises and runs through them out of habit, like a second nature. As a result, one’s meridian paths and reservoirs of Qi are constantly open and ready to be used and expelled or channeled, thus allowing one the ability to achieve the desired effects nearly instantaneously. The results of these exercises range from trivial and mundane, such as warming and calming the body in order to sleep through cold weather with minimal protection from the elements, to the more commonly showcased feats of amplified strength, physical fortitude – all marks of a healthy individual. These exercises also eventually allow the user to perform “lightness” techniques (輕功 / qing gong), which “lightens” one’s body, allowing one to run far faster as well as jump higher and further than normal people, with speeds rivaling that of magic-assisted travel, and, eventually, allowing nigh-instantaneous movements over short distances.
To counter the risks one undertakes as a martial art practitioner, one must be able to take care of the body needs in order to keep oneself, as well as others, in optimal condition. As such, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu also actively instructs the practitioner in massaging and relaxation techniques (擒/推拿 / qin/tui na), forcible poison excretion from the bloodstream using Qi (逼毒 / bi du), acupuncture, methods of mixing and obtaining traditional herbal medicines, as well as the other healing aspects and applications of Qi alongside the martial aspects. As a side note, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu is also perhaps one of the few, if not only, martial arts that teaches culinary skills that any normal restaurant would be grateful to have in their kitchen. This has been attributed to a popular story that says that the reason why the monks were “visiting” in the first place was because they had been excommunicated from their order for their sinful love of the pleasures of the flesh.
~.Details and Mechanics.~ 無性氣功 (Qi Applications) Mechanics Explained
Spoiler: click to toggle - The source of all energy of Qi based attacks is a self-generated, slowly recovering pool of Qi within Trystan himself. The regeneration from the passive circulation of unused Qi within the body allows the pool to recover itself slowly throughout a day, regardless of the tasks at hand. However, despite the passive regeneration, the speed at which it occurs is much too low for Trystan to be considered a limitless pool of Qi during combat. Furthermore, it is impossible to fully recover at the maximum pace and/or expand the maximum pool of Qi without silent and still meditation. During silent and still meditation, due to the speed at which life energy is being circulated, physical recovery is also boosted significantly, to the point that after a day of silent and still meditation, Trystan would, unless recovering from a life-threatening wound or heavily traumatic injury, have the ability to at least walk around and function in a normal, non-combat environment.
- When Qi is channeled into objects, even normal sticks and pebbles can become deadly blades and projectiles. The Qi channeled within strengthens the structure of the object, and can create Qi “edges”. Thus, weapons that already have sharpened edges become that much sharper, leading to faster and more devastating armed assaults. Qi can also be channeled into multiple body parts at once, enhancing these portions, effectively transforming them into formidable makeshift weapons/armor as well as giving the user a noticeable performance boost. The weapons formed this way can have up to 4 hand lengths of extra striking range, depending on the amount of Qi infused into said object. It is possible to damage only armor and other such barriers without harming the person behind by allowing the Qi to flow through the person, and expelling the force outside of their body. However, one must also keep in mind the individual strength of the object or body part, for channeling in too much Qi can actually break the object from within. Attacks made through channeling have the destructive capability to bend and/or penetrate heavy metal within a few hits at maximum power, and require little to no charge time other than the initial preparation, as the power of these attacks come from a constant stream of channeled Qi. As such, maintaining an offense or defense with this type of strategy can potentially become more tiring than constantly using only Qi projectile attacks. However, with training, the amount of extraneous Qi used can continue to be minimized. Currently, Trystan can constantly channel Qi from 3 to 6 posts per Thread, before needing to recuperate for another post to start the next barrage, depending on the amount of Qi being utilized.
- Non-physical attacks, such as (elemental or etc.) magic and psychic attacks, are not defended against by armor enhanced by or simply armors of pure Qi and will pass right through, being able to attack their intended target directly through the defensive aura. On the other hand, physical attacks are repulsed by a concentration of Qi between the incoming attack and the user’s body, released upon contact with the attack, thus allowing the user to fend off, absorb, and possibly repel the incoming attack based on the level of Qi manipulation. While weapons are not completely stopped by the Qi enhanced armor, the user is able to slow the weapon down slightly upon contact with the Qi armor so as to make them easier to dodge. The Qi armor can also be used to temporarily “bandage” any wounds, forcibly realigning torn organs temporarily and directing blood to flow along its normal path. However, doing so tires out the user immensely quickly on large wounds, and is mostly used as a last resort to allow a chance to flee the situation in order to seek medical attention. Nevertheless, after diligent training, Trystan is now able to accomplish this feat with much greater ease than before, allowing his stamina to usually last at least until the highest priority threat is dealt with (end of thread). However, after finishing off the highest priority, Trystan will likely be incapacitated for the remainder of the battle.
- Qi projections are malleable attacks, and seen only as something akin to a mid-air mirage to only those who are completely aware of their surroundings; as such, for almost all individuals, including Trystan himself at times, the attacks themselves go unseen. Furthermore, qi projections always travel along a linear path until the intended destination, regardless of any outside forces, unless caught and redirected by another practitioner or if stopped by a superior offensive or defensive obstruction of qi . Forming the projections themselves is a basic task, and can be completed within a few milliseconds with minimal concentration and energy. The size of the molded qi projections can range anywhere in diameter from less than that of a sesame seed to a shape with a diameter of the distance between the fingertips of Trystan’s outstretched arms. To use a projection, Trystan gathers Qi within the assaulting limb, then shapes it to the desired shape before shooting towards an intended location. Repeated medium or above power hits to the same area could cause unexpected hemorrhaging due to repeated “slicing” or “crushing” trauma; where the hemorrhaging occurs depends on how deeply the projections are hitting. For example, if going through a target cleanly, most of the damage would be internal, whereas glancing hits would lead to shallow cuts or surface bruising.
- Projection attacks using require charging motions, which are directly related to the amount of power said attack contains. With more charging motions, the trajectory of attack becomes easier to predict due to the linear nature of the projections; in short, the power of these attacks are based on an exponentially proportional risk to reward ratio and require the skilled use of feints in order to land attacks on opponents. Per post, Trystan can use up to 1 max, 2 medium, or 3 weak projections depending on the amount of power being used, before needing to rest for 1 post in order to recuperate for the next barrage. 3 weak projections are equal to 1 medium projection and 2 medium projections are equal to half of a full-power projection. Weak projections can not penetrate multiple targets, Medium projections can penetrate to hit 1 additional target, and Maximum power projections can penetrate to hit 2 additional targets. Each target penetrated will reduce the power by one level. Each projection can be split into 5 parts, but each part of the same projection can only be aimed at the same location. During the windup, Trystan may not dodge or defend in any manner, as doing so would break off the required circulation of Qi in order to generate the projection. To charge a projection attack to maximum, one full post of charging is required, with the projection being released at the end of said post. Projection attacks can be used in conjunction with channeling techniques, but if done this way, Trystan can only use up to the original minus 1 projections per post while the channeling technique is still activated (0 max, 1 medium, 2 weak). Unless no projection attacks are used in an eligible round, unused attacks per eligible round do not carry over; the Qi gathered is simply returned to pool.
- It only takes several milliseconds for Qi projections to reach their intended target location(s), due to the technique’s own theoretical maximum effective, but not operational, range of just over 4 arm lengths past the practitioner’s own fingertips, effectively making the time until contact as soon as the attack is released instantaneous. Once shot out, the projections are beyond the control of the source, and exist as separate entities. Skilled practitioners of other variations of Qi, such as Ki or Chi (excluding Magic users and other, purely physical fighting styles), are thus able to catch, redirect, and return said projection with their own added energies if their reactions are fast enough. However, given the distances at which these techniques are used at, the chances of being able to do so are extremely unlikely, even among the more skilled practitioners, as such an action not only would lead to a critical injury if even a slight mistake is made while attempting redirection, but it is also usually simply easier to leave the estimated attack path.
- Kenki (劍氣) is used for long distance piercing or cutting attacks, but has no explosive power whatsoever. It can be used within a radius of 5 arm lengths, measured starting from the user’s shoulder. These types of attacks can easily cut through rocks, and could potentially cut through multiple layers of reinforced metal at full power. However, used against objects considered “alive”(according to the rules below), the effects are drastically reduced due to the innate Qi within anything that is “alive”, leaving, at maximum, heavy internal bruising and damage to the physical body’s energy system and meridian pathways at all points of contact. Kenki can be imagined to be a constant stream of ephemeral and inked paper that “slices” through and attempts to ink, and thus damage, anything in its path until the projection reaches its intended location or is stopped by a stronger qi offensive or defensive obstruction before dissipating. To be considered Kenki, the shaped projection must contain at least one thin edge. This attack does not cause blowback in and of itself, but will cause deep penetrating damage to anything the “blade” touches. This attack can potentially amputate, but will not be able to do so on either NPCs or PCs without prior OOC agreement. This attack can cut through and damage cannon-fodder NPC equipment, unless specifically noted otherwise.
- Shouki (掌氣) is used within a radius of 3.5 arm lengths for pushing or crushing attacks, measured starting from the base of the user’s shoulder. This type of attack can easily pulverize rocks and concrete even when not used at full-power. At full power these projections have destructive capabilities that would be able to simply crush several layers of reinforced metal within a few repeated hits. However, used against objects considered “alive”(according to the rules below), the effects are drastically reduced due to the innate Qi within anything that is “alive”, leaving, at maximum, heavy internal bruising at all points of contact. Shouki can be imagined to be a constant stream of ephemeral and inked paper that “slaps” through and attempts to ink, and thus damage, anything in its path until the projection reaches its intended location or is stopped by a stronger qi offense or defensive obstruction before dissipating. To be considered Shouki, the shaped projection can not contain any edges meant to be used for penetration. This attack causes great blowback that affects regardless of whether the impacted object or being is considered “alive” by the rules stated below, and is separate from the amount of damage to be dealt to anything caught between the intended location and the source. The blowback will stop slow moving and slow small-caliber projectiles; however, any projectile moving at greater speeds will be unaffected. Upon impact with anything considered “alive”, the full force of the blowback and damage is transferred, before continuing and repeating this process on any target between the source and final intended destination. Blowback transferred to each target hit remains the same throughout, but the damage dealt by the Qi will continue to decrease. This attack will cause deep crushing damage to anything the “flat” touches.
- The most critical difference is that Qi can, but does not have to, be projected past and through barriers as a projectile-like weapon. As Qi flows through and connects all things that are alive, this connection thus allows high-leveled Qi practitioners to project their Qi from a distance and affect their target directly through inanimate barriers that stand in the way between the practitioner and their actual target(s), such as body armor, physical, magical, or spiritual barriers, without necessarily having to damage or affect said barriers. See next point to avoid conflicting definitions of what is alive. On the flip side, such projectile-like attacks have absolutely no effect on targets that are already dead or were never alive to begin with, such as zombies/demons/spirits and robots. On a side note, as rain falls into a puddle and remains completely unchanged, Qi projections will pass through other defensive barriers of Qi/Chi/Ki completely unaffected.
- Alive or not? Check the following List! List may be subject to change, but only by an Admin upon request.
- If the character in question is a spirit possessed person, the human body/shell/medium will be harmed, but the spirit itself will not, as it is already “dead”.
- If the character in question is a Demon, Zombie, etc, your character will not be damaged by the projectile Qi attacks. However, internal organs and the physical body of the demon/zombie/etc. itself can still be damaged by Qi enhanced attacks, and be blown back by shouki attacks, as at that point in time, the target is considered something akin to part of the destructible environment (such as a random boulder or tree).
- If the character in question has even a teensy bit of anything considered “alive” in this list, your character will be still be affected by the projectile Qi attacks, though with much lesser effect, as the amount of “alive-ness” has diminished.
- If the character in question is a mythical beast/species, (such as dragons, phoenixes, elves, fairies, etc), you will be affected by Qi attacks.
- Acting without a soul does not make the character in question immune to Qi projectile attacks. Unless the character in question is killed off and is irreversibly dead, said character will still be considered “alive”. If said character is revived as a zombie, or possessed by a demon to act as a medium, see above point about zombies and demons and possessions.
- If the character in question is wearing air-tight, kinetic force dispelling armor, said character will still be affected by Qi projectile attacks. However, said characters will also still be affected by Qi enhanced physical attacks, as the connections between all existences that are alive will still allow the Qi to flow through. However, the effects will only be the result of being harmed by the Qi, and not by the physical force of the blow itself.
- 點穴 (Tapping) Mechanics Explained
As interfering with the normal energy flow of an individual could potentially cause much more potent injuries, Trystan refrains from using tapping techniques as much as possible in an offensive manner. If pressed, he would usually desist after achieving full body paralysis of the opponent. Only rarely would Trystan press further, leading to a KOd or even dead opponent.
- 1 successful “tap” leads to slight numbing of the sense of touch and taste for 5 rounds, slowing and impeding movements slightly, but noticeably. May succeed up to 4 times per thread.
- If the target is “tapped” a second time before the 5 rounds are up, the target suffers from weakness of the limbs for 1 round, leading to extremely impeded movements, cutting movement to less than 1/10 of said target’s original maximum.
- If the target is “tapped” a third time before the initial 5 rounds are up, the target suffers from full body paralysis for 2 rounds. May only succeed 2 times per thread.
- If the target is “tapped” a fourth time before the initial 5 rounds are up, the target is KOd. May only succeed once per thread.
- If the target is “tapped” a fifth time before the initial 5 rounds are up, the target is fatally wounded. May only be used after having gained permission with consent from an admin and the character’s player, and if given sufficient IC reasoning. May only succeed once per thread.
- A target who is also versed in the art of pressure point manipulation can attempt to “un-tap” up to one point per post. If target chooses to attempt untapping, no other offensive actions can be made in the same round. The “tapper” can only attempt to “tap” once per round. Discretion based on relative character skill is advised. In other words, if the tapper has a higher level of accomplishment than the one who has been tapped in the art of pressure point manipulation, the tapped point will be correspondingly harder to untap. Because tapping involves a high level of concentration and technique, no other offensive actions can be made of any sort by Trystan when attempting to tap. Individual levels of debuffs are stacked so long as the target is still under the effect of any level of tap.
All of the above is stated with the rules listed under the Rules section in mind.
- ”Sakki” Perception
As a prerequisite to becoming a successful practitioner of Ryoushou-Ryu Kobujutsu, one must first be able to naturally tell when someone in your surroundings is focusing upon you with malicious intent (Sakki, 殺氣 / sha qi). This perception is an innate sort of sixth sense – something that one is born with, but can be learned with enough effort. When this perception skill is fine-tuned, not only can one identify from which direction and at what distance the source of malice is from you, but can also identify other emotions as well. In short, it is a primal, but highly accurate form of emotion reading and short-term action prediction based upon not only the slightest details in body positioning, but also on a highly attuned gut instinct.
However, this seemingly miraculous homing system is not without its drawbacks; upon noticing the Sakki, Trystan starts to feel nauseous, and will eventually have a hard time breathing and pass out from the mixed feelings of fear and disgust if the killing intent becomes strong enough. Since this is not a skill that can be activated and deactivated at will, the potential hazards of this ability are great as well. When polished, this skill allows not only one to tolerate higher levels of Sakki, but also emit, suppress, and/or direct great amounts of focused hostility towards multiple specific targets within a certain range. After countless encounters with the Heartless and fusing with multiple selves, Trystan’s tolerance of the side effects of and mastery of this skill has grown tremendously, to the point that he can perceive and target any being or beings within a 10 km radius, with diminishing results over longer distances.
After having spent the year after the Heartless incident wandering, attempting to keep his own personality intact with the various personalities from alternate dimensions rapidly leaving his body, the mental focus gained from the near constant meditation has unlocked a new, but dangerous side of this skill – the ability to sense the lack of directed malice. By forcing malice outwards towards the world, the world itself reacts by sending malice back towards the user. However, with this sort of feedback, one is able to sense those locations and/or sources which/who conversely defy the natural order by not reacting with malice. However, this skill is a double edged sword, as the constant exposure to this redirected and overwhelming malice of the world causes high strain to the user, and if the user does not exercise strict control, could cause him to enter a state immense mental and physical injury, entering the state known and warned only against with the fearsome description of “walking within the fire and becoming a demon” (走火入魔).
Those who cannot sense Sakki, who are, naturally, mostly civilians raised in peace throughout their entire lives, perceive being targeted as only somewhat discomforting; the more sensitive ones may perceive that the area has suddenly appeared to have decreased in size or has suddenly become much colder due to their own subconscious reactions to the malicious intent.
[/quote]What Erin said. Anyone complains, this comes back and I hit this so hard with the nerf hammer that a crater is left. Approved.

~Laughing in the face of the world’s troubles, he proudly moves onwards…~
If anything, Trystan is a mix of contradicting statements. Having been ingrained with the sayings and philosophies of the Ryoushou-Ryuu since he could remember, he lives by, often quotes, and is truly convinced of their motto.
There is a thing known as Justice; 有一種東西叫正義; To grasp and protect Great Justice, one must possess Great Kung Fu! 要高強正義, 就要有高強功夫!
Spoiler: click to toggle An inherently unclear and paradoxical philosophy, this philosophy intentionally allows their students to follow their own sense of Great Justice. Stripped down to its basics, the philosophy states that for better or for worse, only the strong are able to enforce Justice. Thus, one trains in order to allow Justice the freedom to spread throughout the world. This may seem like a form of absolute Darwinism, but this is not the case. Like the free expression within the art itself, all practitioners eventually make their way back out into the world, most of whom never walk the path of the sword again. However, life is a never-ending battle; shore up one’s own defenses with hard work and the torrents will never sweep you away. The sense of Justice is never the same with two different people, nor is the entirety ever forced upon others – it is a way of life. To be able to truly grasp Justice, both physically and spiritually, is to grasp one’s own life within one’s own hands; to be in control of one’s own life is the greatest form of empowerment – the greatest form that Justice could ever take.
As such, he is highly compassionate, and strives to exemplify hard work, devotion to a cause, honor, and loyalty. Unless you do something absolutely unforgivable by his books, it is next to impossible for Trystan to truly despise a person; even then, he is quick to forgive if a desire for repentance is shown. With a quirky sense of humor, formed upon years of seclusion, along with a helpful and innocently curious attitude, he remains an easily approachable person despite the brutal ease with which he can take a life. Coupled with the fact that he's been a high school sophomore since he was 23, his overall image has been one of the mild-mannered incompetent. However, few know that he had been uneducated by the modern educational institution until he had been 17 years of age. Thus, he just accepts his character tag and moves onwards.
The result of years of training, his mental fortitude truly shines when put into trying circumstances. When fighting becomes unavoidable, he remains calm and collected, and will become exponentially colder, efficient, and merciless as his opponent(s) become more and more of a threat to both the general public and the people he holds dear to him. With a high, innate level of intuition, a focused mind, a tremendous combined amount of live combat experience, along with his polished skills, there are few who can truly face off with him in serious close to mid-ranged physical combat. |
In the end, Trystan is still one who prefers harmony over bloodshed. He will favor avoiding combat or merely subduing an opponent, and will almost always give opponents a chance for reconsideration. It is only in the most extreme circumstances that Trystan would even consider killing.
Addendum- Due to the Heartless incident and his permanent fusing with a multitude of other versions of his Self from alternate dimensions, Trystan has lived, combined, a countless number of lifetimes, giving him mental fortitude, intuition, and experience that far outstrips that of many of his peers. As a result, his former relative innocence has faded into a jaded sort of outlook; one has to really do something extraordinary to surprise him. On the other hand, Trystan has also become much more willing to believe the absurd, leading his jaded outlook to sometimes cause him to believe even the most outrageous of lies.
. E q u i p m e n t .
 | | | Bare Essentials | As a long-time practitioner of Ryoushou-Ryuu Kobudo, Trystan has been trained to be able to use most anything that he can grab from around him as a weapon. However, he is still most proficient, while armed, with typical Chinese double-edged straight swords and Miao Dao, or any type of stick weapons. Thus he carries around a plain, inauspicious reinforced metal pointer rod with a neatly wrapped plastic grip, which really is just a thicker pointer like those used in presentations, with him in his pocket. This pointer can extend to an oblong-tubed rod of roughly 3.6 feet in length, and is completely dull in all respects. However, Trystan prefers to engage with opponents unarmed, as the risk of unnecessarily injuring the opponent is much less. | | Apparel | Aside from the pointer, Trystan only has a pair of heavy duty, heat resistant, and anti-conductive gloves and boots to protect his hands and feet when needed, a battered but reliable rucksack, and a plain white headband. Apart from his school uniform and some casual wear Nina bought for him from a nearby store, his clothes all consist of typical dress from where he trained with his Laoshi. He also carries a small, almost uselessly blunt Swiss Army knife. The knife itself is barely able to cut through vegetables, and is mostly used for the fork and spoon hidden ingeniously into the design. | Vigilante Garb Rift Fuse | Having no abilities whatsoever, the Rift Fuse alone is the only remaining physical concrete evidence that Trystan has which proves that the Heartless had invaded this dimension before. It serves as a mere regenerating costume, allowing Trystan to change his appearance. It now serves mostly to intimidate his opponents, and occasionally as Trystan’s vigilante armor. When put away, the Fuse recedes into six dot-shaped tattoos on the small of his back. As a note, the “tail” on the Fuse retains its prehensile abilities, and sometimes reflects Trsystan's current state of mind. |
. S k i l l s + A b i l i t i e s . OOC rules and knowledge pertinent to the following abilities are detailed in the next section. Sakki-Perception Sakki-Perception is the innate or learned ability to predict and/or determine intentions via perception of the emotions directed towards an individual within a certain range. While initially one is only able to sense malice towards oneself (hence the name), as the skill is developed, one is able to accurately sense an increasing spectrum of emotions as well. Furthermore, one also gains the ability to direct one's own malice towards any number of targets within a certain radius. Despite the utility, this ability causes extreme, debilitating nausea once the amount of malice directed towards the possessor of this skill passes a certain threshold. With training, one is able to increase one's tolerance before succumbing to the nausea. Since possession of this skill is a pre-requisite of even being considered as a potential disciple of the Ryoushou-Ryuu, Trystan is naturally extremely proficient with this ability. He is currently able to sense any living being within a 10 km distance, with diminishing results over longer distances. Those who do not possess the ability to sense sakki are not affected much by the malice which may be directed their way, and may only feel a discomforting stare.
After experiencing the inhuman amount of malice generated by the Heartless and trying to keep his own personality intact, Trystan gained the ability to also sense those who are not particularly directing malice towards himself. However, as this is achieved by recklessly directing malice at everything within a certain radius, without a strict level of self-control, it is increasingly easy for him to enter a crazed state of immense physical and mental injury, known only as "walking within the fire and becoming a demon" (走火入魔).
Ryoushou-Ryuu Kobujutsu A martial art that was first developed in China before being brought over to Japan by visiting monks, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu is best characterized as a harmonized mixture of what is considered traditionally external and internal. This martial art encompasses all aspects of grappling, striking, and weapons usage. With this many different aspects, it naturally follows that a critical part in mastering this martial art is not to memorize forms, but to understand the purpose behind each movement. As such, there are only rough guidelines, with practitioners modifying movements to best suit their own purposes. In addition, to mitigate the inherent risks as a practitioner, this martial art also actively instructs the practitioner in many aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As a side note, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu is also perhaps one of the few, if not only, martial arts that teaches professional-grade culinary skills. This has been attributed to a popular story that says that the reason why the monks were “visiting” in the first place was because they had been excommunicated from their order for their sinful love of the pleasures of the flesh. As a result of having trained in this martial art since he was extremely young, Trystan has obtained physical abilities close to the peak of human limits.
Ryoushou-Ryuu Qi Manipulation Ryoushou-Ryuu separates itself from other purely physical styles with the ability to cultivate and manipulate Qi; without a sufficiently large pool of Qi already cultivated, no further instruction in this ability is given. Cultivation is done via a multi-purpose, standardized breathing exercise (呼吸吐納 / hu xi tu na), during which the practitioner cycles the Qi within their body through all of their meridian channels. While the style has no way to measure exactly how large a pool an individual has cultivated, there is a surefire way to measure when a novice has cultivated a sufficient amount of Qi to begin more advanced training: the practitioner does not break out into uncontrollable hiccups after a full cycle. It is then considered common sense and practice to continue utilizing this exercise regardless of the current level of mastery, as regularly doing so not only continues to increase the size of the practitioner's pool of Qi, it also begins to decrease the rate at which this Qi is consumed. Only after a practitioner has cultivated a sufficient pool of Qi is instruction given for increasingly more advanced manipulation techniques. As the current Grandmaster of Ryoushou-Ryuu, Trystan has fully mastered the most advanced techniques. Furthermore, as he is, to his knowledge, the only remaining Master-ranked practitioner of this style, he has taken it upon himself to not only preserve and catalogue his knowledge of these techniques, but to also further develop and expand on them.
Spoiler: click to toggle | Beginner 1 – Assorted Techniques (Mastered) |
|---|
A rather unimpressive name for techniques with an even more unimpressive reputation, these encompass much of what misinformed quack alternative medicine doctors/new-age believers commonly try (but fail) to apply. Upon mastery of these techniques, one is able to utilize and conduct Qi for many…miscellaneous purposes. This runs the gamut from feats that can be confused for party tricks (like bringing water to a boil or blowing light objects around) to more respectable healing applications (such as curing intoxication by forcibly extracting poison from the bloodstream or allowing another individual to heal more rapidly). Many disciples never end up progressing past this level of mastery.
|
| Beginner 2 – Channeling Techniques (174% Mastery) |
|---|
Once a disciple has mastered the miscellaneous techniques, the next step is learning how to inject or channel Qi into various objects. In doing so, a practitioner is able to strengthen or enhance certain properties of the objects they are in contact with. For example, those who master this kind of technique are able to perform the infamous pebble flick, or even smash through rocks or bend metal with a stick. While it might sound straightforward in theory, being able to apply the proper amount of Qi to the object while it is in motion without the Qi dissipating or simply shattering the object from within is an art unto itself. The ability to do so makes up the basic foundation of all sequential, more advanced techniques. As such, the grand majority of disciples never master Qi manipulation beyond this point. A side-effect of having mastered the channeling techniques is a subconscious inclination to cycle one's own Qi, leading to generally heightened physical sensory abilities.
|
| Intermediate 1 – Defensive Aura Techniques (123% Mastery) |
|---|
After mastering the channeling techniques, disciples are allowed to progress into the curriculum for the next set of techniques. These techniques are mainly focused on the defense of the self. By cladding themselves in an aura of Qi, practitioners are able to strengthen their inner and outer defenses so that they are able to negate or reduce the damage dealt from attacks that would otherwise harm them. More advanced individuals are able to shift this aura's focus in order to defend themselves as efficiently as possible by only covering the areas that are being targeted. A benefit of having mastered the defensive techniques is a significantly increased rate of recovery while cycling Qi via the basic breathing technique.
|
| Intermediate 2 – Tapping Techniques (100% Mastery) |
|---|
The few who are able to master the defensive techniques are then introduced to the art of pressure-point tapping. These techniques work on the self or others by injecting Qi into certain pressure points via close-ranged physical contact. By doing so, the practitioner increases the amount of Qi flowing through the affected meridian channels, which in turn can cause either beneficial or detrimental effects. A beneficial tap will open up the channel, and either boost physical and/or ability to interact with Qi, and/or act as a supplement to a Qi healing technique. Likewise, a detrimental tap will seal the channel, causing mirrored, but opposite effects to its beneficial counterpart. Furthermore, tapping techniques are only effective against biological entities, as inorganic materials have neither meridian channels nor Qi running through them (unless otherwise stated by the character/npc's creator).
|
| Advanced – Offensive Projection Techniques (103% Mastery) |
|---|
The offensive techniques consolidate all the prior techniques into a particular skill set. A practitioner first channels their Qi to whichever body part they please, before molding and shaping this Qi into either crashing and crushing shouki (掌氣) or slicing and piercing kenki (劍氣) projections; this molded Qi can also have properties of both shouki and kenki depending on the molded shape, but will not be as effective as a single-type projection. This nigh-invisible, ephemeral force is then projected at any target within a certain range of the practitioner, reaching the intended destination nearly instantaneously. These two types of attacks can also be channeled into objects or limbs, imbuing them with their properties. A practitioner's effective range increases accordingly with the level of mastery over these techniques. Advanced practitioners of the offensive techniques develop a sixth sense for sensing these kinds of attacks, and can either pre-emptively dodge or, in certain cases, even redirect them back towards their casters. Those who have truly mastered the offensive techniques can also, with some time, condense a projection to increase the damage done dramatically.

OOC Skill Knowledge/Mechanics When in question, rulings based on the Rules section of the forum hold priority. These rules/mechanics can be changed upon request by an Admin
General Rules
- Any resolutions applicable to the special actions detailed below (tapping, untapping, charging, redirection, etc.) are based solely by comparing the relative abilities in martial arts styled energy (Qi, Ki, Chi, etc.) manipulation. Ability to manipulate/control other types of energies, such as mana or psychic energy, should not be considered during this process, as they are separate disciplines. The results of all resolutions are at the discretion of the targeted member.
- All projections/auras appear as faint mirages to the discerning, untrained eye. All projected "shapes" are able to be formed by a single sheet of rectangular paper, with the maximum length of the offensive edge being equivalent to the square of Trystan's reach.
- Resting posts of special actions do not have to be taken immediately after a special action's effect is exhausted. However, Trystan will be unable to use any special action with rest posts deferred in this manner until the resting requirement is fulfilled. Resting requirements of different special actions may be consolidated into a single post, lowering the remaining rest posts required of each respective special action by one post each. However, in choosing to do so, Trystan loses 2 offensive actions.
- Normal action rules apply to projections unless otherwise stated.
Tapping
Spoiler: click to toggle | Rules |
|---|
- Armor of significant thickness (eg, does not include clothing) made of non-organic material will negate all attempts at tapping, unless explicitly allowed by the targeted character's creator. Donning armor does not negate any effects already in place. Beneficial effects last for the duration of the thread.
- Tapping success/failure is binary. The effects applied can not be transferred outside of the targeted biological entity by any means. Given successful physical contact, a successful tap causes the level of sealing to increase by 1 per success.
- When attempting to tap any character, including himself, Trystan is unable to take any other offensive actions. Trystan may only attempt to tap a single resisting target once per post. Normal offensive action rules apply to attempts at tapping non-resisting targets.
- A tapped character/npc may attempt to break free of the effects of a successful tap once per post at the cost of all other offensive actions available in said post (does not cause maintained skills to break). A successful break reduces the effects of the tap by 1 level. Trystan may attempt to untap up to two targets, once each per post at the cost of all other offensive actions, so long as physical contact can be made. Trystan may stack this action to attempt to untap 2 levels at once, but only upon himself.
- Detrimental effects per level are stacked and remain in effect until the character unseals the affected channel. Higher level detrimental effects can not be put into effect unless the prior level is still in effect. When the longest lasting detrimental effect is exhausted, the relevant level is automatically unsealed.
|
| Detrimental Effects vs PC Characters/NPCs |
|---|
- Level 1 – causes slight numbing of touch and taste, leading to noticeably impeded movements for 5 posts. The Qi-based shock will also interrupt all Qi-based martial arts techniques for 1 post, as well as lowering all Qi-based traits to 1/2th of the target's original maximum for 4 posts. May succeed 4 times per thread per target.
- Level 2 – given Level 1 is in effect, causes significant weakness of the limbs and deteriorated perception of sight/sound. Consequently, this will cut all physical/Qi-based traits to 1/4th of the target's remaining ability for 3 posts. May succeed 3 times per thread per target.
- Level 3 – given Level 2 is in effect, cuts off all senses and causes full-body paralysis for 2 posts. Will also cut all Qi-based traits in the target to 1/8th of the remaining ability for the same duration. Target is still able to take shallow breaths and speak softly. May succeed 2 times per thread per target.
- Level 4 – given Level 3 is in effect, KO's the target. May succeed only once per thread per target.
- Level 5 – given Level 4 is in effect, places target in a coma and inflicts a fatal wound. May only be used if all following conditions are fulfilled: sufficient IC reason, obtained the permission of the character's owner, and obtained the permission of an admin/mod. May succeed only once per thread.

Offensive
Spoiler: click to toggle | Projection Types |
|---|
- Launched Projections
A launched projection will travel to the intended location at a constant velocity and along a perfectly linear path while keeping its intended shape. The velocity of all launched projections are fixed, regardless of skill level, and may only be altered in 10% increments via redirection. Launched projections will pierce through every target between the origin of the projection and the intended destination. However, each target that is pierced will reduce the all properties (save velocity) of the projection by half, unless noted otherwise. Each target is taken as a whole, and may not be affected by the same launched projection more than once. Trystan is able to launch projections in up to 4 separate or consecutive posts of his choosing before needing to rest for 1 post.
- Redirection
A launched projection's path and shape may only be redirected by a target via a Qi-based ability at the cost of all other types of actions. Redirection may only occur after a projection is launched and when there is close proximity between said target and projection. Targets who have already been touched by said launched projection are unable to attempt redirection. Once a target successfully redirects a projection, said projection is redirected as a whole in its current state, and is under full control of said target. Redirection may occur consecutively any number of times, but only once per post, and will increase all properties of said projection by 10%.
- Channeled Projections
Channeled projections are 50% stronger than launched projections and gain the an armor-piercing trait, but has greatly reduced effective range and increased initial cost. Once the projection is successfully channeled, it is treated as a fixed and un-launchable piece of equipment that requires upkeep; if upkeep is broken, channeling is interrupted. When applied in this manner, the properties of the channeled projection are directly applied into and added onto the original properties of the medium. Currently, Trystan's maximum effective range when channeling is an aura of 4 hand-lengths past the physical medium. Trystan is able to maintain channeled projections for up to 3 consecutive posts before needing to rest for 2 consecutive posts.
- Charged Projections
Projections may be charged to increase its potency. Charging will not interrupt any currently channeled projections. When charging, Trystan may not take any other action. Each post, Trystan is able to use either 1 fully charged, 2 half-charged, or 3 weakly charged projections (2 normal = 1 weak, 3 weak = 1 half, 2 half = 2/3 full) before needing to rest for 1 post. Channeled projections are not interrupted during the resting post.
|
| Projection Characteristics |
|---|
- Shouki – Crashing and Crushing
Trystan's maximum effective range with Shouki is 3 times his reach, measured starting from the base of his shoulder. This type of projection is unique in that the crashing and crushing effects are applied separately; the target will still be blown back even if they take no damage from the crush. The crashing effect is affected by diminishing returns upon piercing through multiple targets, but at half the normal rate; a target may not be blown back by the same projection more than once. On the other hand, the crashing effect itself will never directly cause any damage. The crushing ability of a full-power, pure shouki attack will be able to punch through several layers of reinforced metal within a few repeated hits; the push of a similar blast of shouki will be able to stop slow-moving and small-caliber projectiles.
- Kenki – Slicing and Piercing
Trystan's maximum effective range with kenki is 5 times his reach, measured starting from the base of his shoulder. Regardless of channeled or projected, when used against player-controlled characters or npcs, kenki will be unable to amputate or maim, only cut or stab, unless explicitly permitted otherwise. Kenki is unique in that when channeled, it is treated like a solid, high-vibration cutting/sawing tool, and has double the normal effective channeling range. It does not retain the projections' ability to pass through until it reaches the intended destination, but gains the ability to slice through inorganic materials with ease. At full power, channeled kenki can pierce and/or cut through several layers of reinforced metal within a few seconds.

. P e r s o n a l . H i s to r y . Flashback
Spoiler: click to toggle Pre-Hyakuji
The Child was the son of an impoverished farming couple living in a secluded Chinese country village. After begging a visiting monk to raise their Child, despite of the monk’s crippled left leg, so that he would have a better life, the monk finally outright refused, rebuking them soundly for running away from their circumstances. However, not giving up, the couple left the Child in a basket, along with a single talisman for luck, outside of their village entrance. Finally relenting, as he saw clearly that the couple had already decided that this was to be the fate of their Child, brought the Child along with him for his travels.
The monk took excellent care of the Child from the start, feeding and raising him on various softer foods before moving onto firmer foods. Thus, the Child grew up not knowing of his own past, believing truly that the old man in front of him was his real father. The two got along well, and before long, the monk began to feel quite protective of his foster son. One day, while the monk was away, the Child overheard several town drunks dismissing the elderly monk as nothing more than a crippled beggar. This sort of blatant dismissal of the one and only family in his entire life was more than enough to provoke the young Child into a rage. With a howl of anger, the five year old flew towards the drunks as fast as his little legs could carry him, and started pummeling them with his arms windmilling about. Without hesitation, the drunks grabbed some fist-sized rocks and began hitting back. As to be expected, the Child was beaten to a bloody pulp. Soon after the drunks left, the monk came hobbling towards the Child as fast as his feet would carry him. Pulling up the Child gently, he embraced the crying Child. However, the Child was not crying from his wounds – it was the mental anguish from innocence lost that was burning and magnifying all the pain he felt from his wounds that was torturing him so.
“Father…Why…? How should I…Was I wrong?”
It was then that it happened. Suddenly, the Child seized up, as if in tremendous fear. Pupils dilated, his sobbing immediately stopped. Instead, he started shivering uncontrollably. At the same time, the monk felt the sakki in the air. A Chilling laughter like the winter wind itself whistled gently past their ears, echoing around the area. It would be the first of three times that the Child would witness the monk fight, and would also be the first time that he beheld the monk’s sworn enemy – the one named Seigyoku, named after his sapphire blue eyes. With a flash, the monk jumped up onto the roof towards the Demon, throwing a palm out, knocking down and blowing a palm-shaped hole into the bricks. The Demon laughed with genuine mirth, commenting on how he was pleased that the monk had improved since last time. The two fought for several minutes, with both sending waves of deadly Qi towards the other’s body in an attempt to finish the fight. No punches were pulled, but the two were still evenly matched. The Child could only look on in fearful awe at the scene of brutal grace in front of him. Sweeping kicks, hooks, counters, palms, jabs, stabs, elbows, chops, and a myriad of other attacks that he could not make out were exchanged, each missing the other by only a hair’s breadth. Eventually, as the crowd began to gather, the Demon broke off their furious exchange, then disappeared into the darkness. With the disappearance of the source of his fear, the Child finally collapsed onto the ground, falling onto a small puddle of urine that had gathered beneath his feet. Making his way down, the monk slowly made his way back down the battered roof, a tired expression on his face. Extending a hand to pick the Child up, the monk’s familiar smile slowly lit up on his face. His voice still shaky, the Child accepted the hand, then spoke to the monk.
“Father, teach me.”
“Teach you what, my son?”
“Justice.”
In that instant, the Child had grown up, throwing away his Childhood for good, and embraced the path that few adults would readily take upon themselves. After careful observation and testing, the monk concluded that the Child was indeed determined to take up the path of the Apprentice. The monk revealed himself to be the last practitioner, from his own knowledge, of an old martial style, Ryoushou-Ryu Kobudo. From then on, the monk was called Laoshi by the Disciple, who dedicated every minute of his time to training. Four years later, the Demon paid them another visit. At the time, the two were in the middle of a meditation session when the wave of sakki hit them. Vomiting from his nausea at the chillingly familiar feeling of malice emitted from Seigyoku, the Disciple had scrambled backwards, desperately trying to grab hold of anything he could use as a weapon, and shrieking aloud in fear. Soon after, he fainted from his own mind shutting down to salvage what remained of his sanity. The last image he saw before passing out was the back of his Laoshi as he charged towards the demon. The Disciple awoke to the bloody, but quite alive figure of his Laoshi. Breaking down in tears, the Disciple hugged his Father close, apologizing for his cowardice. Smiling sadly, the monk returned the embrace.
“You have finally understood, my son. To know your own fear – that is the first step in acquiring your own Justice.”
The Disciple went through and completed the acceptance ceremony with the monk once more, this time understanding fully the words that he had repeated those four years ago…
To grasp and protect great Justice, one must possess great Kung Fu!
Once again, the Disciple threw himself into the training, pushing ahead with an even greater enthusiasm and determination than more. As the minutes turned to hours, the hours to days, and days to weeks, months, and years, the Disciple eventually became the officially recognized heir to the Ryoushou-Ryu Kobudo six years later at the age of 15. Three days before the official passing ceremony, the Demon showed up once more. Despite the ailments plaguing their bodies, the events that had dragged these two Masters together into the maelstrom of revenge and mutual hatred had progressed too far already – there was no other path for them to trod on. Their fight, was what defined their entire lives. The Disciple looked on in awe as the two Old Ones dragged their battered bodies towards each other, readying one last blow – a lifetime’s worth of hatred and sworn vengeance culminated in that one moment. In a split-second, it was over; the Demon had shredded the Laoshi’s heart with a well-aimed Empty Sword Qi Thrust, while the Laoshi had blown out and pulverized the Demon’s spine with an all out double-palm to the chest. With his dying breaths, the Father unbuckled the belt marking him as the Grandmaster, and whispered out his congratulations to the Disciple on becoming the 37th Grandmaster. With a tremendous cough, the Father breathed his last amidst a mix of bloodied bodily fluids, as the he and the Demon fell into the puddles of their own blood. As the Disciple nodded, holding back his tears, the Disciple burned the scene that he had witnessed first-hand into his memory. Getting on his knees and bringing his head onto the ground, the Disciple once again bowed the six kowtows that had sealed the monk as his Laoshi, acknowledging his acceptance of the title. Cremating and burying their ashes next to the other, the Disciple set up a tombstone, carving into it a simple six-word sentence with his fingers until his blood stained the words permanently crimson.
“Great Justice, Until the Very End.”
With that, the Disciple left his life behind, and took up the mantle of the Wanderer. Leaving behind only whispers and rumors of a young man who was like a Wuxia character made real, the Wander helped those in need as he worked his way towards the Yellow Sea. Hitching a ride on an illegal immigrant boat, the Wanderer eventually left China, and made his way over through Korea to Japan, the motherland of his Laoshi, at the age of 16. It was there that, after some ordeals, he met his companion and maid, Nina. Eventually, having been somewhat coerced into it by Nina, the Wanderer took up the name of Yamato Trystan, and began his life as an intellectual student. After studying in a nearby elementary school for half a year, Trystan moved on to study at a public junior high, while Nina and him worked as a paid employees for the school itself to pay for his tuition. He garnered many more strange looks and a fairly large repertoire of nicknames and rumors for not only his unusual age, but also for having a personal maid. After two more years of diligent study, Trystan graduated from the junior high then applied to, and was accepted by Hyakuji High School, as well as taking up odd jobs here and there in order to pay for his tuition once more.
Entering Hyakuji
By some sheer incidence of debatable luck, Trystan was always away and training in solitude when major events erupted in Hyakuji. As such, there is not much to say here save that he was an average student with average grades. He was not a troublemaker, and surprisingly did not get into too many fights. Known to some, but not particularly popular, he was your standard Average Joe fodder material. As such, he had a very uneventful, and almost laughably normal freshman year at Hyakuji High. However, when he was about to start his Sophomore year, his world came crashing down around his head.
Appearance of the Heartless
Due to his nature, the day that the Heartless came through the tear, Trystan had already set off at full pace towards the general location of the source. What he saw simply left him at a loss of words. Never before had he seen such a chaotic scene. The sky above him was being torn asunder, with hordes upon hordes of dark somethings rushing through. Worse of all, the entire area was filled with sakki. It was pure malice directed not at any one thing, but at this world on a whole. Collapsing onto the ground on his knees, Trystan began to vomit uncontrollably, until there was nothing left in his bowels to eject, leaving him a gagging and teary mess.
Though she had been ordered to stay behind, Nina had followed on her own, her gut telling her that the gathering darkness would not just pass without incidence. Rushing to his side, she supported his body as well as she could, rubbing his back in an attempt to soothe the convulsions. Though she couldn’t do much when he was rushing headlong into battle, it was only in moments like this when her Master was weak; she would protect him with all that she had, as he had for her when they had first met. However, his convulsions did not stop. They only grew stronger as more and more of the Heartless came out of the sky. Eventually, his convulsions got to the point that it almost seemed as if he were trying to break free of Nina’s embrace. Suddenly, things took a turn for the worse. As Nina tried to embrace him tighter to keep him from hurting himself, her arms suddenly collapsed through his chest; she couldn’t touch his body any longer. He thrashed around on the ground, his very form starting to become like an image on a television with bad reception. His limbs would no longer interact with the world around them, passing right through the foliage and failing to stir up even a few leaves off the ground. His voice would not come through, even though his face was marked with pain. He could not even attempt to end himself of this misery once and for all, for he could not even touch himself.
Silent tears of anguish rolled down her face as she watched her worse nightmare unfolding in front of her. She started to scream at the top of her lungs, her grief punctuating each sob enough to punch a hole through the heart of even the most hardened criminal. The Heartless were neither blind nor deaf, and seeing another so close to becoming one of their own, a horde changed their course, heading towards the two. Her only thought as she saw them closing in was that despite their imminent doom, she only wished for the safety for her Master. Crawling over to him, she lay herself down on top of him, vainly hugging the space he occupied. Closing her eyes, she resigned herself to her fate. Gradually, a feeling of warmth enveloped her. Was this the feeling of death? If so, it wasn’t as bad as they had made it out to be. Opening her eyes, she was surrounded by a muted darkness, warm, but at the same time, cold. She had no idea where she was, but one thing was certain – she could touch her Master again. Satisfied with just this, she closed her eyes, drifting off into an easy sleep.
When Trystan opened his eyes, all he saw before him was a darkness. The darkness had protected him, saving him from the massive onslaught of mental images and physical reconstruction. It was a comfortable sort of darkness, akin to the kind that one would see if you woke up after an afternoon nap in a room with the shades down. All of a sudden, images flashed before his eyes, illuminating the world as it was. All of it flashed by much too quickly, and though he had seen what was, what is, and what was to come, none of it stayed in his head. However, one thing that he knew now was his dependence upon whatever it was that showed him these images, and the fact that the Heartless had come. The darkness rapidly sheathed itself around his body, covering him in a burning chill that quickly disappeared. Before his eyes were countless numbers of Heartless Shadows. Roaring a battlecry that sounded like a metallic screech, he curled up Nina’s unconscious body as well as he could against himself, then threw a punch, nailing the front most Shadow in the face, blowing it into a puff of smoke. Dashing away from the school, Trystan held out his free hand, materializing several spherical objects, tossing them back into the crowd. A round of explosions took place, sending at least a dozen more into oblivion.
And so the chase was on.
While he wandered, Trystan discovered more and more of the abilities and restrictions of the Rift Fuse, as he would later call it. However, while mastery of this stabilization device was a priority, his own brand of Justice still called out to him, leading him along a path of ceaseless wandering, dealing with situations as they came.
Aftermath of Heartless Era
During the time which Trystan spent traversing through the various dimensions, he remained relatively obscure, never staying in a single place for too long, but always staying long enough to do some damage. Always having been more concerned with the plight of the common man, as opposed to that of defeating the heads, he had opted to stay behind during the final battle, protecting the fleeing townspeople of Traverse Town. Though he finally unlocked the full potential of the Rift Fuse during this battle, it was too little too late.
With one final Big Bang Overload, Trystan consumed nearly every Heartless within a 1500 meter radius, dragging them, along with Nina and his own battered body, into the Primordial Origin. There, after having consumed the potential of all the Heartless gathered, the Fuse undertook drastic measures in order to save its host, sacrificing its own potential, combined with that of the Heartless, in order to revive Trystan’s body. After picking up his soul from the brink of death, the Fuse placed Trystan and Nina's beings in a state of suspension, waiting until the time-space continuum stabilized.
When the two awoke, Trystan and Nina reappeared back at the clearing where they had first encountered the crack in the sky. With only hazy memories of what had happened during the Kingdom Hearts Incident, the pair made their way back towards school, ready to start the new school year fresh.
Kaimu Saga
However, after entering school, it was clear that something was wrong with Trystan’s mental stability. His moods would often change in the middle of the day, or would simply wake up another day seemingly a differnet person altogether. All of these memories, if they could even be called that, evoked a sense of urgency and worry within Trystan himself. If he was unable to function properly as an individual, how could he even think of upholding the Great Justice? With thoughts like these in his mind, he left for what was meant to be a solitary journey, leaving Hyakuji and Japan, and heading directly towards Taiwan then China. However, unable to simply stay in Japan as Trystan had ordered, Nina had followed Trystan’s aimless wanderings from afar, keeping herself constantly out of reach, but ever close enough to rush to his side if need be. Uneventful except for a few tussles here and there with the customs agents, Trystan arrived in China relatively unscathed, if slightly delirious. After arriving at a secluded area deep within the heart of his homeland, the Wanderer sat down and simply started meditating. From then on, no one knew where this mysterious individual had gone, and only that one day, the Wanderer had reappeared in Hyakuji, with a new light in his eyes. |

Spoiler: click to toggle ….Or at least, he thought that he had traveled to Hyakuji.
After realizing that the scenery in front of him wasn't as he remembered, Trystan asked a fellow passenger on the carriage where they were. To his shock, he found out that he had somehow wound up travelling much further north than he had thought, and had ended up in a remote countryside settlement in Mongolia. While standing there dazed, he received a second shock after seeing the nostalgic figure of a maid stepping out from behind a withering tree. It turned out that, despite the many occurrences that hinted at such a thing, Nina really knew Trystan much better than he himself did. She had predicted that Trystan would make such a huge mistake, and decided to finally show her face to him. While he scolded her for following him, he was still relieved to know that she was well.
After asking around, the two decided to stay the night at the local inn. However, as they entered the building, Trystan saw a familiar face that he thought he'd never see again. The golden locks on his head aside, the piercing sapphire-blue eyes that flitted his way were unmistakably that of Seigyoku. However, before he could react, the man got up and walked towards Trystan and Nina on his own.
Spoiler: click to toggle The man calmly came forwards, closing the distance between them step by step. Contrary to this calm attitude, Trystan had already broken out in cold sweats. Nina turned her head slightly to look at Trystan, before turning her attention back towards the blonde man. While his eyes were indeed a striking color, the man himself didn't really stand out. He was dressed like a local, and was not giving off any particularly sort of vibe either. In fact, his presence was so light that she felt as if she took her eyes off of him for a moment, she would lose track of him. However, if her Master was acting like this, it was certainly something that she had to shield him from.
"Excuse me, but who are y-"
It was when she started moving to stand slightly in front of Trystan when the man spoke in a whispery, amused voice.
"Get out of the way, woman."
"Nina! Watch ou-!"
Suddenly, Nina felt a massive blow to her side. Before she could react, she was sent flying into a table and through the wall. The world blurred around her as the harsh winter winds instantly pierced through her body. Well, almost all of her body. She couldn't really feel her legs, and her arm was strangely warm. It sounded like there were screams coming from inside the inn, but she couldn't make out anything. As her vision faded, she vaguely saw the forms of her Master and the man slowly overlap. Fear gripped her heart as this scene unfolded…
…It was the first time since she met her Master that he had ever looked so small when compared to another.
The man with the Sapphire Eyes smirked.
"How weak. Young disciple, why do you keep a useless woman like her by your side?"
Trystan wanted nothing more than to rush to Nina's side to check her wounds, but the man in front of him was exuding too much Sakki. How had he failed to notice him earlier? How had he managed to use that projection without any motions? Trystan edged around the room until his back was covering the hole that Nina's body had left. He directed his Sakki towards the man as well, forcing down the feeling of nausea twisting at his guts. After a moment, Trystan broke the tension-filled silence.
"How are you still alive?"
The man stared dumbfounded at Trystan for a moment, as if he had heard some ridiculously incorrect statement. Finally, a small, condescending smirk came to his face, and gave a small shrug.
"Disciple, do you honestly believe that I would fight to the death with that old codger?"
Trystan's expression hardened at the slight against his foster father. The man, seemingly pleased with this reaction, began laughing with a cackle.
"KAkakaka! Oh, I'm so sorry, Disciple. I forgot you were rather attached to the old fart~"
Suddenly, the pressure in the surrounding area increased. The man's voice reverberated with a dreadful resonance despite the low volume at which he hissed out his next words.
"…don't you think that you've gotten a bit too insolent for someone who merely watched your master struggle against my shadow…?"
Brows furrowing, Trystan let out a furious roar and coated his body with a defensive aura. Channeling his Qi into his arms and legs, he leapt forwards while throwing a barrage of blows towards the man. However, despite the wind pressure from the individual blows being enough to scatter the nearby furniture, the man's sapphire eyes showed that this level of attack wasn't even enough for him to have to actually pay attention. The man nonchalantly parried all the blows with a single hand, before catching a particularly hard blow straight on. The world seemed to come to a halt as a bone-chilling smile came to the man's face. "Down, boy."
As he spoke, the man pushed down slightly. In that instant, Trystan's form was completely destroyed. Despite mustering all of his ability to defend against the half-hearted attack, Trystan could not resist the overwhelming difference in ability, and was crushed face-down into the floorboards. The force was so great that the entire area around them had sunken in, though the area immediately around Trystan seemed to have borne most of the burden. The man's eyebrows lifted slightly as he made a small sound indicating his appreciation of the measures that Trystan had taken to preserve his own life.
"Yes, that was a good decision, using your aura to dissipate the force around you. Given time…yes…hm…"
After a moment, time seemed to return to the area. A cold wind blew in through the various holes that had formed in the structure of the inn. Groaning, Trystan shakily pried himself free of the hole his body had made. It took almost all of his strength to just keep standing; his body was weak, and his knees felt like they would give out at any moment. Without looking back at Trystan, the man started speaking while walking towards the door, which was still somehow miraculously undamaged.
"…well, I'll admit that I went overboard for a greeting. After all, you buried my shadow and set up a grave for it as well….I'll apologize for what I did to your companion just now."
The man tossed a small package to Trystan from within his coat. Trystan tried to reach for it, but his hand was too slow to rise, resulting in it simply bouncing off of his body and landing by his feet.
"It's up to you whether you believe me or not, but this is a Golden Pill I've been saving up. I assume you do know how to use it…do you not? Or was it another thing that the old fool didn't teach you? Well? What are you waiting for? I grow bored of playing with you. Go see to your girly or she won't live to see another day." |
The resulting damage to the two was not something that could be healed quickly, even with the man's Golden Pill. Nina had suffered multiple fractures and dislocations, as well as several severe puncture wounds from the pieces of wall that had flown outside with her; had Trystan not been able to summon up the last of his strength to power an emergency technique to stop her bleeding, her life might have been forfeit right then and there. As for Trystan, this single attack from the mortal enemy of his Laoshi was one which not only caused immense damage his physical body, it was also one which completely shocked his meridians through and through.
Over the next three months, the pair focused on recovering.
For Nina, this was an objectively easy task, as all it required her to do was rest. However, it was akin to torture for her psychologically, as she was unable to move around or to help her Master with any of the tasks she might normally be occupied with. In the end, Trystan had no choice but to explicitly order her to rest. In a reversal of roles, it was now Trystan who ended up helping Nina with a variety of tasks that she would normally not even dream of needing help with. While having Nina depend on him was a rather refreshing experience, it was just as mortifying an experience for the maid.
For Trystan, however, the road to recovery was not as straightforwards. His physical body recovered quickly due to the Ryoushou-Ryuu breathing techniques. However, when he tried to practice the more advanced Qi manipulation techniques, he suddenly found that, in the process of healing through the shock, his meridian pathways had become diverged from what he was used to. The results of channeling his Qi as he was used to either produced strange, unwanted results, or simply produced no effects whatsoever. In extreme cases, the Qi flow would even backfire, and threaten to consume and inflict the 'walking through the fire and becoming a demon' status on him. However, through sheer determination, Trystan was able to determine how these new pathways were traced in his body, and could at least reproduce shallow imitations of or makeshift techniques that were similar to the ones he could use before.
Almost as if he had been observing them, the pair received a letter a short while after they had recovered to a certain extent. The man had even brazenly written his own name on the envelope, as if he were addressing an old friend. In it were only a few mocking words, and an invitation to chase him if Trystan wanted to get stronger.
Thus began Trystan and Nina's trek across Asia. Every step of the way, the two were beaten and battered, and repeatedly thrust into unbelievable hardship. Just when they thought that they had finally cornered the man, he'd effortlessly escape, only to leave another taunting letter telling the two exactly where he was headed. Like this, the two were helplessly strung along through China, the Koreas, Taiwan, and pretty much whichever locale the Sapphire Eyes wanted to visit at the time.
However, just like the man had originally written, Trystan couldn't deny that by chasing the Sapphire Eyes over these past years, he had not only quickly recovered his past ability, he had even grown stronger in some respects. Even Nina had begun to be able to use lower leveled Qi manipulation techniques. However, this new-found strength was never something that he felt completely comfortable with. At times, it even felt like there was some sort of explosive, uncontrollable power that would explode from within him at any moment; the fine line between the cliff and the abyss only shrunk as time went on. However, and perhaps most importantly, the techniques that were being ingrained into him at this point were the techniques that the Sapphire Eyes used. Try as he might, the techniques his Laoshi had taught him were slowly being washed away by the new techniques.
One day, the two suddenly received another letter from the Sapphire Eyes.
See you in Japan~ |

As a note, the “tail” on the Fuse retains its prehensile abilities, and sometimes reflects Trsystan's current state of mind. |
. S k i l l s + A b i l i t i e s .OOC rules and knowledge pertinent to the following abilities are detailed in the next section.Sakki-PerceptionSakki-Perception is the innate or learned ability to predict and/or determine intentions via perception of the emotions directed towards an individual within a certain range. Ryoushou-Ryuu KobujutsuA martial art that was first developed in China before being brought over to Japan by visiting monks, Ryoushou-Ryuu kobujutsu is best characterized as a harmonized mixture of what is considered traditionally external and internal. Ryoushou-Ryuu Qi ManipulationRyoushou-Ryuu separates itself from other purely physical styles with the ability to cultivate and manipulate Qi; without a sufficiently large pool of Qi already cultivated, no further instruction in this ability is given.
|
|
|
|

OOC Skill Knowledge/MechanicsWhen in question, rulings based on the Rules section of the forum hold priority. These rules/mechanics can be changed upon request by an AdminGeneral Rules - Any resolutions applicable to the special actions detailed below (tapping, untapping, charging, redirection, etc.) are based solely by comparing the relative abilities in martial arts styled energy (Qi, Ki, Chi, etc.) manipulation.
|

|
