One does not simply eat one packet of mee goreng
It was a fairly peaceful sunny spring weekend at the park, where people would just spend their one day holiday just lounging around and relaxing, doing whatever the hell they wanted to do to keep their mind away from school work or office work. Staying indoors is barely his style, and Seth would rather have a walk around the city under such good weather with Youma than stay in his room playing games. Or doing his homework. "Nee, Seth. I'm gonna go get some crepes," A silver-haired girl in a green and white dress said impatiently, tugging at the sleeve of his black sweater to get his attention as she rose from the park bench.

"You're not even bothering to ask..." Seth Ryouga muttered exasperatedly, opting to just stay in his seat. "Fine, fine. Just make sure you get back home before-" He faltered, because the moment he raised his head, the girl was no longer there. "...midnight..." He facepalmed. He just couldn't be bothered to look around for her, because the moment she's out of sight it would be impossible to find her for at least the next three hours. No doubt the girl is now wandering around the whole city in her quest to search for a crepe cart. Ho well. She'll be back. Somehow.

Though without the half-phantom around his weekend had significantly become a whole damn lot more boring. Sitting there all alone on a bench at the park in his trademark black sweater, glancing around lazily at the people all around him having the time of their life. Beh... at this point it might be more productive if he just went home and finish his history homework. But he needed Youma for that...

Might as well be another uneventful day. That is, until his ears caught something curious behind him.

Tilting his head backwards the boy noted among the bright happy people around the park, there's a small group of shady looking men huddled together, apart from the rest of the crowd at the park. They stood out like a sore thumb, and it's hard not to pay attention to them when they're all acting so darn suspicious.

It wasn't hard for him to listen in. While they were being particularly quiet, eavesdropping has never been a problem for Seth thanks to his heightened sensing capability. From what he managed to pick up the group seemed to be talking about capturing a strange-looking bird that had appeared in the city as of recent. And to be honest... lacking information on what this strange bird thing really is made him... unconcerned. Who knows, they might as well just be another one of those cryptozoologist thing, or just some bird enthusiast.

It didn't take long until the shady group shuffled away from the scene after reaching a consensus of some sort, leaving Seth to once again let his mind wander to the land of dream. It's a very useful hobby to have when you don't have anything else to do, daydreaming.

Yet it appeared that today the practice of daydreaming would have been disturbed as the young lad would uncover the fact that the rumor he had just heard had been connected to a rather unusual series of events that were abound to unfold around him. Only a moment after his female companion had left and the shady figures moved into the more lush sections of the park, disappearing among the trees the boy would had been able to see a peculiar sight above him. A bird flew above him… Certainly a ordinary sight to most if they just heard those words but it wasn’t just a ordinary bird… A majestic eagle around three times the size of its regular kin soared above the park… Holding some crepes in its beak? What in the world would a eagle be doing with crepes… Still as the eagle seemingly flown toward the trees, likely where it might have made its nest the eagle finally disappeared out of sight…

Slowly the three males confirmed they weren’t being followed before one of them started attaching several objects against the trees, projectile launchers that they had purchased for this hunt. Grinning with confidence the men already felt that the moment they caught their prey they would bask in the money. In the end some people paid lots of money for statues of real animals. But little did they knew their prey wouldn’t be the type they had hoped to catch. Detecting a movement one of the projectile launchers send a large net flying into the air, causing something to fall rustling down the blanket of leafs that covered the sky above them when suddenly a loud series of screeches followed… All of a sudden a giant monster, seemingly resembling a crossing of a humanoid and a bird fell down between them, the sharp claws of the creature resembling a Harpy causing the nets to snap as in a fit of anger and fear it lashed at one of the trappers, the scratches digging deep into his skin while the other one hesitatingly pulled his ally away and both started running…
Suddenly followed by a series of screams. The earlier shady figures had ran out of the woods in a panic, their features covered in bleeding scratches as one of them stumbled down the hill, his words causing a small panic among the people who were enjoying their peaceful day.

“A monster! There’s a monster in the woods!”
“Idiot that trap of yours was meant for a bird, not a monster like that!”

His companion quickly pulled him up and dragged him away yet at the same time the men quickly left the scene the sound of a girl’s voice making a loud ‘Kyaa!’ could be heard from the same woods the men ran out from… Could it be someone was in danger?! Most of the people at the park right now were children and their parents so it was doubtful any of them could be a match for a monster… Or perhaps there was a brave student among them? Yet if the boy decided to investigate he would find a rather silly sight awaiting him. Caught upside down against a tree-branch was a girl seemingly wearing the Hyakuji school uniform. Trying desperately to both keep her skirt up, a failing effort thanks to the fact she was using most of her concentration to keep the crepe in her mouth from crumbling off one could instantly see the wing-shaped ears at the side of her head… But how in the world did she get trapped in a net? Perhaps a unlucky victim of one of the traps those suspicious people left behind?

“If only I had my hands free I could materialize Aquila but… I used my allowance on that tasty crepe…”

Muttering softly the girl’s horror was finally confirmed when the crepe crumbled off, the part in her mouth devoured in a single instant while more than 80% of the whole crepe fell down the net onto the ground, causing her ears to droop down like a scolded puppy while tears gathered in her eyes.

“Uguu… BAKA HUMANS! Don’t leave net-spewing monsters in the trees when I’m trying to eat crepes…”

Sobbing softly as she stared at the collapsed crepe, by now ignoring the flipped-down skirt as the traumatizing experience of her perished crepe had made her oblivious to her own condition. Squirming lightly as she tried to break free she found herself struggling futile against the ropes of the net.

“Someone… Please give the crepe a memorial service and then free me…”

Clapping her hands together in a prayer as she both paid her respects for the deceased crepe and the hope someone would free her from the net she suddenly heard a familiar masculine voice resound in her head.

“Touka-dono… Why are you not freeing yourself?”

Why… Because those humans killed her crepe! The beautiful crepe was spilled all over the grass and now food for worms and other tiny animals. While she should be grateful at least someone had been able to enjoy the tragic result of the events she felt like a stubborn child who refused to break free from a problem herself. Of course she could just transform into her half-beast form and break the net but she was too occupied in her sorrow at the loss of her crepe… That took all her money from the chores she did for the elderly people around Hyakuji, all wasted thanks to the greed of humanity!

“Hiro-sensei… Trystan-chan… Jean-kun, Ramen Raider… Isn’t there a hero to save me? To free me and avenge the death of my fallen crepe? By trapping those evil humans in their own net-spewing monsters…”

Yet amusingly enough perhaps a hero was indeed nearby, but if he was willing to save her and avenge a crepe out of all this was left to be seen. But… If she was left hanging much longer she might get into actual troubles…

...Yeah, he might actually just leave her there.

Let's see... one thing leads to another, but this is the one thing he was led towards to that barely make any kind of sense to him whatsoever. Out of curiosity and a slight bit of worry the boy had snapped into action, following the voice of the girl into the woods. Part of him actually expected to encounter a real monster of some sort, but what he saw was something quite the contrary. "Heeey. You up there. Mind telling me what are you doing?" The boy called out to her, somewhat listlessly.

Part of him seriously wanted to just leave her there. It's a nice view, that's for sure.

“Ano… I flew to here to eat some crepes…”

Indeed she still remembered how she purchased some crepes at a nearby store and then decided that she wanted to spend some time eating it within the park where she felt more comfortable due to the nostalgia it held to her own realm but instead the moment she returned to her usual spot she was confronted with several net-spewing creations that caught her by surprise. Then she fell down into the woods and in a fit of panic she turned to her half-beast form to try to counter the ambush, just to be met with several trappers who mistaken her for a rare bird that should have been not dwell in Japan. The end result was this mess… A soft sigh escaped her lips as she turned her gaze into the direction of the voice, her dark blue-colored eyes staring with a hint of curiosity as she struggled once more to break free.

“Then suddenly out of nowhere someone spewed nets at me and I fell down here...”

And what happened then was rather simple… Amidst the panic she turned into her half-beast form thinking she was being attacked and tried to scare the trappers away. Of course she underestimated their greed and the moment she tried to turn into her normal self another net caught her just as she had saved her crepe… Of course she didn’t realize yet this entire mess had started just because her form earlier caused a misunderstanding to happen, but now some time was passing it seemed that her regular self was becoming more and more dominant as her cheeks flushed up lightly.

“Uguu… If I had known this would happen I wouldn’t take my other form so casually around the park, but can you please let me down? I forgotten my Soul Blade at the dorm and it’s too cramped in here to materialize it safely. That and if I take my more scary form it’s likely one of those monsters will spew at me with a net again…”

Why gods in this realm did you make your creations far less chivalrous than she recalled them to be in the past? Usually they would end up rescuing her and then ask questions but instead this boy--- Her thoughts suddenly paused as her gaze remained fixated on him for a while, the unusual blue aura that usually represented her visual guide in understanding people’s souls made her blink lightly in confusion when suddenly a smile appeared on her lips, using a hand to point at him as she spoke once more.

“That aside… Is your soul sick mister? I never seen a human’s soul that seems like its basking in so much power that it is suffering. It makes me happy~ Ah! Not because your soul might be in pain but because you’re special like me then~ Well I guess many people here at Hyakuji are special but… Your soul’s presence is different from others~”

How long was she going to be stuck talking in this awkward situation? Seemingly for long because the only way for her freedom was either to be saved or for her to call forth her Soul Blade. But to do the latter she needed to have enough space to do it safely, or she had to use a special method she wasn’t used to… But still her unusual visual prowess for spiritual things as one who wielded the powers of a Soul Crafter the peculiar existence of the boy had once more allowed her thoughts to be distracted. Her wing-shaped ears twitched repeatedly in frustration as she squirmed a few more times to break free but with no process in getting even closer.

“I did apologize to those nasty men when they fled but I forgotten to use human-speech so… It likely sounded like a monster screeching~”

A childish smile remained on her lips as she felt herself growing a bit more bashful than before… She really was going to be stuck here for a while at this rate right? Was this boy just teasing her or was he seriously just going to stay there and watch her until he left?

“Human society is so confusing… To throw nets at a Beastkin just because they are in animal forms is borderline bullying.”

Nodding her head firmly at the statement she finally went silent waiting for the boy to response.

His soul is sick? "That doesn't sound like a compliment..." The boy muttered in annoyance as the girl continued squirming to free herself, with futility of course. And whatever she said just now made little to no sense to him whatsoever. And no, he's not curious enough to start asking about stuff.

...

Wait, does this mean he has to help her get down now?

Dammit. He thought he could buy some more time. It's a shame that he didn't even bring his Bat Shot with him. The view of a girl hanging upside down from a tree wrapped in a net is something that must be treasured.

Yep.

"Feh... alright, alright..." He finally said in defeat, rubbing his neck as he lazily approached the tree, clearly unmotivated to help her at all. She wasn't particularly high up, so this should be easy enough. He raised his head, picking his spot and crouched low, before leaping quite easily into the air and grasped one of the branches for support. Lesshee... doesn't look like the net's made of anything strong... But then again, not that it matters for him. He fumbled around with the net and... it didn't take long until the whole thing gave away, letting her fall off to the ground.

...Yes. He did just let her fall off to the ground.

Where was the day the males of Hyakuji had a bit of chivalrousness within them? At first the Beastkin girl seemed delighted at the fact she would finally be freed, gazing upwards at the tree as the boy leapt into the air, grasping a hold of a branch for support while he started to toy around with the net, slowly getting it more lose. Of course being the oblivious girl she was it was only as the net started to slowly shift bit by bit downwards as more of its support got loosened that a simple question arose in her mind. What would happen once the net was loosened? Let’s see… There was a option the entire net and its content would fall onto the ground just to be saved by the boy at the last moment---- not a chance… With the final rope tied to the branches loosened the girl looked up at the boy with a face that easily spelled the words ‘I’m going to fall you know?’ Well obviously he knew about the matter but since it wasn’t that high it wouldn’t have mattered… If there wasn’t any spilled crepe all over the ground beneath her!

“W-Wait I’m going to fall into the crepe—“

And as her voice was accompanied by a soft scream the improvised feeling of danger caused her to finally snap into action, the girl quickly muttering a chant in a foreign tongue as beneath the falling net several runes started to manifest into the shape of a circle and finally as the entire net had came loose and dropped toward the ground the girl was cloaked in a intense light when finally she reemerged in a remarkably different form. Standing now at a remarkably taller height the girl had been covered in a armor of feathers while from her back two large wings had sprouted, the net having snapped under its strength as the claw-shaped appendages grasped a hold of the nearby branches before making her spin upwards and perched onto the tree-branch the net had been attached onto a moment ago. Sighing briefly in relief she looked at the boy before nudging her head into the direction the remains of the net had scattered. Oh she was pissed--- seriously pissed! Didn’t help that her half-beast form only intensified the emotions she felt.

“I was about to land with my rear into the crepe! I don’t know about you but crepe-soaked panties aren’t exactly something I wish to experience! I was wrong about you, your soul isn’t special it’s corrupted! Evil, wicked like creators! At least you could have been a bit more careful! If you think I’ll craft one of my legendary weapons after that stunt you pulled you might think again!”

Screech, screech. Waving her wings in annoyance she finally turned her head away, her emotions slowly calming down again as her cheeks flushed up for a moment and she muttered just loud enough for him to hear her.

“But I’m grateful for your assistance… If it wasn’t for your aid I might have had to call forth my soul blade and he would have turned those trappers into a mess… But Hiro-sensei wouldn’t be happy if I made a scene at the park so shortly after I finally returned to school…”

Short Tsundere moment? Or perhaps just a moment of randomness… Honestly no girl would likely enjoy having such a type of meeting with a crepe… Finally turning her gaze back at the boy she corrected his earlier thoughts.

“I meant my earlier words about your soul as a compliment. In layman terms I guess I think your powers are so strong they might be straining your body. My people are able to see others their soul energy when we are close enough. But it’s easy to distinguish a regular person from a ‘gifted’ one like the students at Hyakuji tend to be.”

Ah right, she was forgetting something important right? She had turned into a harpy in front of this boy without even introducing herself! Smiling weakly as she felt partly grateful the natural armor of feathers from her half-beast form covered her fairly well she continued speaking.

“I think it’s normal for humans to introduce themselves at this point I think… I am Touka of the Aquila Beastkin clan~ A second years student at Hyakuji~ Albeit I skipped most of my first year due to circumstances…”

Circumstances like tearing down a doctor’s office who was meant to cure her of a cold and who due to his poor choice of attire in the form of a laboratory coat made her mistaken him for a creator. Of course in a panic she had remained hidden in the city until recently when she stumbled upon--- or rather was busted by one of the teachers that had taught her during the first year…

"YES, HALF OF MY SOUL IS INDEED DARK AND CORRUPTED AND EVIL, AND NO, I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SOUL WEAPON CRAFTING THING NOR DO I CARE ABOUT IT AT ALL," He wasn't necessarily yelling, but he definitely raised his voice as he was starting to get annoyed. He wasn't sure how she could actually sense the existence of another entity, namely the Metavirus V inside him, but her calling V in such a manner ticked him off greatly.

Man, so weird. "Just call me Seth," The boy said with a sigh as he released the branch and dropped off to the ground. "I don't really get your obsession with my soul. Yeah, I guess it is too strong that it's killing me, it's special, blablabla, so?" It actually surprised him quite a bit that whatever she had in mind was not that far off from facts. But of all the things he had to be curious about, it had to be some weird harpy-lady of a sort.

Eh... but why should he care?
