Born with a heart broken from the start
|
Emiko was on her way back to the dorms after spending the morning at the pool. She had needed to clear her mind of everything and just relax, and since one of her favorite activities was swimming it had more or less been a done deal. Now, after have spent two hours at the public pool doing laps Emiko felt both refreshed and reinvigorated despite the tiring exercise. The last few days had been quite exhausting on her part as she had to juggle school, work, the WDA but also her new project; finding out the truth about Anna and Eri and possibly her own past. After her trip to Tokyo with Deus and the incident on the day of their return home to Hyakuji Emiko had been unable to let it to rest, and to be honest, she hadn’t even tried. Before she had said that she didn’t want to know anything about her true past and that she was happy with the life she was living now. But now it wasn’t an issue of her being unhappy with her life or parents, it had suddenly become a question about the truth. Emiko wanted to know who that woman in the picture was and why Izo, the driver, that been there of all places. What was going on and why was she involved in it? Combing through her still damp hair Emiko reached the bus station and sat down on a nearby bench with a heavy sigh. “Maybe I’ll ask the WDA for some help?” she mumbled to herself. |

Her phone rang. "There is a black car coming around now for you. This car has been sent by the Solomon Financial Group. Please get into the vehicle and sit quietly until you arrive at your destination." Almost immediately a black stretch limo with tinted windows pulled up and stopped across from her. From inside two large men stepped out in full butler regalia. One opened the door for her and the other motioned for her to step inside. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of options in all of this. Never once was she asked if she wanted to comply and perhaps one might even call the tone just a bit threatening. An unsaid "or else." hung over the whole proceedings. |

Staring at her phone completely baffled as the person on the other end hanged up Emiko mumbled, “Why would Solomon Financial Group send a-” She silenced and jerked back in her seat when, just like the caller had said, a black limousine stopped on the street right in front of her. Her emotional state quickly changed from stunned and confused to fear as two men got out to the car. While both looked quite respectable in their butler garb Emi couldn’t help but have a bad feeling about this. She stayed put on the bench, but when it seemed like they weren’t going to leave without her Emiko swallowed hard and stood up. Hoisting her gym bag up on her shoulder and slowly making her way to the open door, she flipped open her cell phone in her hand and started typing up a message to send to Deus, >What is going on? Is this some sort or prank?< |

>..wow... how stupidly vague, idiot. I have no idea what you're talking about. And who said you could text me anyhow?< As she got into the car it drove on for quite a while. Winding through the streets in complete silence. The butlers sat on the opposite side of the car from her. There were many drinks and even some small snacks for her. In the end it was a high class limousine to be sure... Eventually it pulled to a stop. One of the men stepped out and opened the door. They were on a tarmac with only one small private jet on the entire runway. There was nowhere else for her to go except on the plane. "Mrs Solomon requests your presence. She assures you you will be back relatively early." One of the butlers said gesturing for her to head for the plane. |

Despite the odd situation she was in Emiko’s heart made a small leap when the short familiar signal alerted her of an incoming text message. It was Deus’ reply and after reading it she rolled her eyes with a sigh and quickly typed up a reply. >Does permission really matter?! I’m being taken away by a car sent from your family’s financial group!< Tucking her phone away in her bag Emiko leaned her head back against the seat and stared up. She didn’t want any of the drinks or snacks the butlers were offering, instead she wanted some questions answered. However, they just simply replied that she would soon be told everything and would have to wait. When they finally arrived at their destination and Emi laid eyes on the private plane she instinctually took a couple of steps backwards and bumped into one of the butlers. "Mrs Solomon requests your presence. She assures you, you will be back relatively early." “M-Mrs. Solomon?” Emiko repeated with wide eyes as she was gently guided towards the plane, “Deus’ mother? She is in the hospital! And not somewhere I need to get on a plane to visit!” Emi was feeling really worried now. Getting on a plane without know the destination or who was truly behind it, needed a sort of recklessness that she usually didn’t have unless someone she knew was in danger. But she didn’t really have any other choice, they would get their way one way or the other, with or without force. So, simply following their ‘requests’ willingly made it much easier and pleasant for everyone involved, Emiko in particular. Swallowing hard she got on the plane and sent a quick message to Deus before turning it off for the flight. >I’m on a private plane now… I think I’m experiencing a luxurious kidnapping o_o;; < Edited by Lelil, Mar 26 2012, 12:02 PM.

...No Reply.. "That... woman is not Mrs. Solomon."Came a curt reply from within the plane. As the girl stepped inside she'd fine an older woman sitting. She had sharp eyes, a pointed nose, and thin lips. Her gaze was fixed on various documents in front of her and the the men buzzing around her on either side. The woman waited a moment before gesturing the girl to sit. "Come on, we're not gonna wait all day." She spat. After Emiko was seated the plane began to taxi and took off in relatively short order. The woman seemed content to ignore the girl for now... ..actually for a long time.. Was she ever going to speak? |

Ducking her head as she stepped in and entered the plane Emiko suddenly halted in her steps as she saw a strict looking mature woman siting inside. She stood still and silent for a moment, unsure of what she was supposed to, until the woman ordered her to sit down. Squeezing the strap of her gym bag in nervousness Emi walked over to the appointed seat and sat down as she slowly lowered her bag to the floor. The black-haired girl felt very wary of the whole situation and constantly looked from side to side, hoping that someone would explain what was going on. As the silence stretched longer and longer it started to feel like she was sitting on pins and needles and not a comfy chair in a private plane. Emiko felt almost afraid to speak out loud without being spoken to so during the silence she tried to puzzle out things on her own. The woman was obviously not Thomas’ and Deus' mother since Emi already had met her, so which 'Mrs. Solomon' was she? Maybe she was a cousin or relative? But why would she then be interested in Emiko? However, with her mature age it was very possible that the older woman could be the the half brothers' grandmother, which meant she was… “The Duchess,” Emiko suddenly gasped in shock and realization and at the same time looked at the woman with wide eyes. "Hurmp." The woman snorted. "So even the boys call me that?" She said with passing interest as she reviewed the papers. She glanced from them to the girl. "Do try to be quiet until I get done here.." She said in obvious distaste. She returned to her work for a while longer. "Now then.. I understand I should be congratulating you and my grandchild on an engagement? Well at the very least you.. I should be mourning for my gandchild.." She said with barely hidden contempt. |

Pressing her lips tightly together Emiko feared that she had in some way slipped up by calling Mrs. Solomon The Duchess. However, while the older woman did seem displeased it passed without further remarks save for a request for silence. Emiko felt ill at ease. The woman was obviously not the friendly and warm type, so why had she ‘invited’ Emi here? Why not just call? Actually, why even do that? The two of them had no connection whatsoever except for knowing Deus, and if Mrs. Solomon wanted to talk to his grandchild then it was easy enough to send an email or call. When the older lady finally put her papers down and spoke about an engagement of sorts Emiko was completely dumbstruck, which consequentially put quite a stupid expression on her face. “Who?” she asked while blinking her eyes confusedly before turning her head to look behind her. Obviously no one was there and as she looked back at Mrs. Solomon and her distasteful expression. “Wait…” Emiko mumbled as the reality of the situation slowly started to sink in, “Waaaaait a minute...” she laughed nervously, “Nooo. Ehe he he... Don’t tell me you think that…” One look at the Duchess’ unchanged stern expression told Emiko just that. The black haired girl silenced as her eyes bulged, threatening to pop out her skull, “What…? Wait… Wait, WHAT?!” She pointed at herself, “Me?!” Shaking her hands violently in front of her Emiko exclaimed, “Woah! Woaaah there! How can-? That is-! Why are-? What-!?” she was almost at a loss for words and had to take a few calming breaths before being able to speak normally again. “No. No. I’m sorry, but I think you have been terribly misinformed. There is absolutely not an engagement. Deus and I are just friends.” Emi would have been quite convincing with her definite tone if it weren't for her cheeks that had suddenly taken on a fiery red color; the memory of her writing down ‘Emiko Solomon’ over and over on a piece of paper ‘just to see how it would look’ had inconveniently come to mind. Hey! Sheeesh. Don’t blame her! That is something all girls do when they are in love. Even a girl like Emiko can’t resist that temptation. |

"I know that." She said curtly as she sat back in her seat. "I know my grandson quite well. He'd say something like that just to throw someone off. He acts with complete disregard for his familial name and obligations.." She said as she interlaced her fingers in front of her, the attention was now clearly on the girl. She motioned for the two men to leave. She then reached into a file and set down a photograph. Emiko and Deus.. Heading into a love motel. "But THIS... This I find.. very compelling.." She said with a glare. "So what exactly IS your angel? Aiming for a divorce for money? A kid for child support money? What's your game, dear? How do you plan to scam my grandson?" “Oh no,” Emiko breathed as she stared at the pictures that had just been placed in front of her. She didn’t think anyone had seen them, after all, it had just happened because of the rain, nothing had been planned in advance. As Mrs. Solomon started to pepper questions at Emiko, insinuating and outright claiming that she was some sort of gold-digger, the poor girl exclaimed, “Nononono! You got it all wrong!” Pointing at the picture she desperately tried to explain herself, “It was raining and both of us were wet and freezing. It was such a shady neighborhood and we were lost! We just wanted to get away so we went in there. And then Deus changed our previous arrangements so that we would stay there instead…” With big innocent eyes Emiko pleaded, “Please believe me, Mrs. Solomon! I don’t have any ill intentions. I care a lot about Deus. I would never do such things to him!” She was panting slightly from being upset over the accusations, however, something suddenly struck Emiko as very peculiar, “W-wait… How did you get these pictures?” she bent forward to take a closer look at them. They were obviously taken from afar, probably with a good camera, but why were these pictures taken…? Looking straight at the older woman in front of her Emi asked with shock and disbelief, “Are you following and spying on your grandchild?” |

"hurmph. For your sake I should hope so.." She said as she took out her paper. She sighed heavily. "Listen child.. My grandchild is.... obstinate. He never tells me anything. And I am the head of the Solomon Financial Group. That means every person in my family bearing that name is my business... Deus is therefor my direct concern. If I can't learn from him directly I have him watched.. After the... debacle with that gold digging tramp that drove my sons apart I ESPECIALLY need to make sure they marry correctly.." "Listen let me make this clear.. My grandson has exiled himself out to the boonies over some.. silly resentment he holds towards his uncle. Perhaps it also has to do with the fact that Thomas is my chosen heir over him. Either way he's come out here to toil in obscurity. All of that is fine with me. He'll wise up one day and learn to play our way. But until he does it's my only task to make sure nothing he does... limits him... That includes women." She sighed and glanced to the girl, adjusting her glasses. "Feel free to play around with him until he graduates but once he does he'll be coming to London and he WON'T be bringing you.." |

“What? No! Deus’ and Thomas’ mother is not like that at a-“ Emiko was instantly interrupted by the older woman who went on to a long spiel about Deus’ situation, including women... Emi felt an angry blush heat her cheeks and furrowed her brows. At this point she couldn’t help but dislike Mrs. Solomon, she was a cold, controlling and deceitful woman. This explained more than anything why Deus had few similar traits in the beginning when Emiko first met him, although, he had changed a lot since then and so had she. “I’m not playing with him,” Emiko replied angrily between clenched teeth, “I just want Deus to be happy and reach his dream, and if I’m not part of that picture then… then…” she turned her head to the side and looked down before squeezing her eyes close, “Then that is fine.” Emi took a deep breath before turning to the older woman again, “I don’t want to be rude, Mrs. Solomon, but I don’t wish to stay here much longer. I don’t like the way you seem to think that you control Deus and his choices in life. So, could you please tell me why I am here?” Edited by Lelil, Mar 29 2012, 08:29 PM.

"Hahahaha!" The woman burst out laughing as the girl spoke. However her laugh didn't last very long. "Yes, how.. prudent of you. You wish to know? Really? Fine. I'll tell you.." She said as she leaned back in her seat. "I don't know you, I don't trust you, and I think you're dangerous. But I am FAR more dangerous. If you do something.. ANYTHING to shame our family I will GLADLY take that little shop of your parents and turn it into a parking lot. Then I will bury you all in legal actions and harassment until your family can't even see the day." "I will destroy you.." "That's what I wanted you to know." |

Emiko stared at the woman with shock and disbelief. She opened her mouth and closed it again a few times, for a moment looking like a fish out of water. A part of her couldn’t believe that Mrs. Solomon was actually thinking of using such a dirty trick but at the same time, wasn’t this was people like her did? Using their influence and power to their advantage, pressuring and threatening those not as fortunate into doing things that they didn’t really want to do if they’ve had have a choice. Tears of anger started to burn behind Emiko’s violet eyes and she clenched her hands in defiance, “My parents has nothing to do with you nor mine and Deus’ friendship. Leave them out of this and don’t you dare touch them!” She really disliked Mrs. Solomon now, really disliked her. “You bring me here to show me those pictures, accuse me of being an awful person, a gold-digger who is trying to scam Deus for money! And you threaten me and my family. What exactly do you expect me to do in a situation like this, Mrs. Solomon?” Emiko’s voice was shaking from being upset and angry, the tears in her eyes about to well over, “Do you think I will stay away from Deus? That I will suddenly distance myself because I’m afraid of what you will do?” She shook her head and he salty drops fell down on her lap, “Sorry to disappoint, but I will be acting the way I want around him and not in a way that pleases you.” “And to be honest,” Emiko exhaled unevenly, “I probably won’t even tell him about this. Because despite your obvious dislike towards me and mine growing in regards to you, I don’t want to be the one who puts further strain on your relationship with your grandson. I think there is enough of that already in your family.” She looked straight at Mrs. Solomon with tearstained cheeks, “But I'm not doing it for you, I'm doing it for him. Because I care about him in a way that matters, and not because I want to uphold some kind of facade for the sake of a family-name.” Post #1000!! WOOHOOOOO!! Edited by Lelil, Apr 2 2012, 07:32 PM.
