Legs were burning, chest was tight, his arms were screaming. He tore out around another corner, sliding to a halt as he caught sight of the target. He was closing the gap but the lead this guy had was simply too great! Sirius had to push down his emotions and keep going.

The pain in his lungs was blinding, his legs were screaming. He pushed himself harder and harder as he took another turn, pushing through the people and making his way into the crowd. He slipped past the people there before finally taking a powerful jump and leaping straight up onto a street light. He looked around and spotted the man. Getting farther! No choice!

He leaped from the light post to the next, grabbing onto it and swinging from it to the next one with a powerful leap. He spun around on the light, landing on it and planting his feet. His feet connected long enough for his muscles to tense before he kicked off, powerfully blasting himself down the street and landing beside the man, shoes kicking up a cloud of dust.

The man turned, eyes wide and out of breath. He threw the sack of cash at Sirius. Sirius grabbed it from the air, fumbling with it and turning to find..

The man was gone!!

"Cheh!" Sirius panted heavily as he looked around. If Sirius was this tired the criminal would be far more exhausted... He couldn't be far.... but where?!

It is either one or the other... when you have two choices you have to make you need to think through it thoroughly. One mistake may as well lead to the end of the world. It's always incredible how such a small thing can influence something so big... Glancing left and right for the last time, the Ace Inspector raised her left hand... "THIS ONE,"

...and handed the store owner one of the watermelon she had been holding on to.

Listen, something as simple as grocery shopping can be a life-changing experience, alright! You need to be able to acquire some of the best out there while being economic at the same time! It's one of the first step to being an Ace Inspector! Not that she isn't one already, but still. "Uhm... miss, are you done yet...?"

"Not yet, good sir. I am still in the middle of determining which of these two has a much rounder surface..." Mina said snappily, picking up another two watermelons from the wooden crates, raising it in front of her and turned around to face away from the store- SMASH!!!

...That was... unexpected. All of a sudden a person had decided to smash their head into the watermelon like an idiot, before crashing on the floor at her feet, groaning in pain. "...Why do you not watch where you are going? It would be dangerous if you had killed yourself," The girl said in a somewhat stern tone, partly scolding, partly concerned as she held out her hand to help the person up.

"EH... EHHHHH?! YOU STOPPED THE THIEF?!" Sirius said in absolute shock,... "AND.. THE WAY YOU DID IT.. WAS SO COOL!!"

Let's replay it in Sirius Vision....

rewinding...

rewinding...

rewinding...

The man dashed along the street to escape, Sirius had finally spotted him and was giving chase. The man was dashing as quickly as possible and Sirius was still gaining quickly, but with the man almost to the crowd of shoppers Sirius might loose him again soon. Even drawing the full power of the green A in his chest wasn't giving him enough to close the gap...

And then some beautiful stranger smashed a pumpkin into his head.

"...Why do you not watch where you are going?" She said with a cocky tone, mockign the defeated foe (in his mind). "It would be dangerous if you had killed yourself," She said taunting him (in his mind).

So.. bad... asss!!!!

"EH... EHHHHH?! YOU STOPPED THE THIEF?!" Sirius said in absolute shock,... "AND.. THE WAY YOU DID IT.. WAS SO COOL!!"

It wasn't long until sirens could be heard...

~~~
Sirius explained the story in detail to the cops, especially the part where Mina dashed in and smashed the man over the head with a melon, which seemed to keep growing into a more elaborate and cool act of heroism. Of course then Sirius learned her dad was a cop and she was also known by all the cops...!?
She was... a hero! A real one, not like him. He was only the shadow of a real hero, but this girl was the real deal. She defeated this crook like it was nothing, as if it happened by mere chance. Her skills were at such a high level!
"M..M...Miss Sumiregawa... Ma'am...!" Sirius said wringign his hands a bit as he squirmed nervously. "If you don't mind...." He said falteringly.. "I'd like it if you considered an unworthy person like me... one of your students!"
"You see, I had a friend who was a real hero, and since then I've wanted to uphold his name. But I don't know where to start.. Hyakuji is full of scoundrels such as dark heroes. Drink machine destroyers. Thieves of both books and money! I was loosing faith until I met you! A real genuine ace inspector! W-with her own badge! And my age too! You're really someone amazing!"
As everything unfolded all by themselves in front of her, the girl could only just stand there, looking as sour as she had always been. You seriously can't tell whether she was even taking in any of this ridiculousness. The girl had half a mind to just walk away unnoticed by the rest of the crowd, but not before she was confronted by the boy from earlier. Whom had apparently pegged her as a hero who had stopped the thief.
Now, anyone else would have denied that, saying it was an accident. But Mina...
"Indeed it was cool. The thief was no match for my peerless crime-stopping ability,"
She uh... was having fun playing along. The girl just couldn't miss the chance to finally be known as a true Ace Inspector without a rival. And this boy had just given her what she wanted on a silver platter!
Though she didn't expect him to actually want her to take him as her apprentice. Part of her was actually tempted to play along with him some more, though the girl managed to at least hold herself back from actually taking him in. Come on, everyone knows a cool Ace Inspector does not take apprentices. You need to feed her ego even more, only then will she accept him as her apprentice.
And he's doing a very good job at it, or she's just that egoistical. "There is no denying that I am indeed amazing," Mina said pridefully, tossing her nose into the air as she swished her hair like a model, planting her hands on her waist. "I also admire your passion in fighting crimes. With someone as determined as you, you will surely be able to become someone just as great as I am. Maybe I should take you in as my apprentice after all," The girl raised her hand and gave him a thumbs up, still having that sour expression on her face.
Her ego is truly terrifying.
Woah.. she had a lot of confidence. For the Sirius that always doubted himself as worthy to stand in the light a girl like this that was so confident and so bold was truly amazing to him. The fact that she could easily talk about how good she was meant that she had years of experience and that her abilities were time tested, right?
Well the alternative was that she was an extremely arrogant rookie but that just wasn't possible with such an awesome girl! "Hahah! Well, think it over, I guess.. If you decide something please tell me right away!" Man... in his quest to protect Hyakuji he'd met some real crazy characters but this was the first person like him he'd met. A real hero determined to do the right thing..
"H-H-Hey... D... Do you.. want to get some lunch.. or something..?" He said awkwardly as he rubbed his neck looking away from the girl. "I was just thinking... even if I can't be your trainee I can at least get some good pointers! I'll pay for everything, of course!" He'd get her to lunch and then pick her brains! This was the best!
"Do not concern yourself over paying. It would be unfitting for an Ace Inspector such as me to take advantage of someone," She said, waving her hand in dismissal. "However, I do feel quite famished,"
The self-proclaimed Ace Inspector folded her arms, closed her eyes as though focusing on something important. "Now listen. In becoming a true hero you must be able to make a choice you will not regret. Ever. Even if it was a terribly wrong decision. However that by itself is avoidable once you're as proficient in decision making as I am,"
Mina raised her hand into the air, pointing into the sky, saying, "And in the case of lunch! Finding the best place to satisfy your hunger is the first step to being a great Ace Inspector. And now, WE SHALL GO TO THAT RESTAURANT!" Her hand fell, pointing directly at...!
...A shabby, old dilapidated looking restaurant with someone at the front, apparently taking down the front sign.
It seemed as though she had accidentally made a wrong decision. Though looking closer the girl looked somewhat mortified at the sight of the store closing down.
Sirius looked to her as she spoke, impressed by her confident demeanor. She was the sort of girl that took charge, never letting anyone get in her way. Even though she hadn't accepted him as her trainee she was still giving him advice with a calm certainty. There was no wishy washy waffling from her. She was assertive and strong.
And hot!
"R-right!" He said as he nodded vigorously. He turned from where she was to where she was pointing to the shop. At first he was giddy with excitement. This must be one of her favorite places if she liked it so much that she recommended it. However the sign was coming down off the store.. Was she.. mistaken? Wait, hadn't she just said she didn't make mistakes?
No!
He was doubting her already?! She was his (super hot) mentor! He had to believe in her. Wasn't there a saying like the best foods came from places you'd least expect. Even if it looked like it was being shut down his master had used her amazing investigation skills to seek out the best place in town! He was sure of it! "Okay!" He said eagerly as he rushed to the store.
"Sir, sir! We're gonna eat here! Don't take down your sign yet!"
"Mm?" The old man looked down curiously at the boy, eyes widening slightly in surprise. "Ah... no, sorry kid. We don't even have the stuff to make anything right now. Go away, I'm busy," He said, dismissing the boy with a wave of his hand before resuming his work.
"Hold on... Ouji-san, why are you closing the restaurant down...?"
She arrived a bit later than Sirius, stopping right next to him as she looked up at the old man with a somewhat dejected look on her face. It wasn't as though she had really made a mistake... She really does consider this restaurant to be the best restaurant in the whole town. She had lived here since she was born, the girl KNOWS where the best places are at. Old man Ouji glanced at Mina with a somewhat sad smile on his face. "Ooh, Mina. Long time no see. How's your father doing?"
The girl didn't answer.
"Eh..? Uh.. Oh.." Sirius said awkwardly. So this place was going out of business? And it seemed to be some sort of place that she knew a lot about. The man even knew her by name. That was an awkward situation for him to be in.. He stepped back and twiddled his thumbs in front of him.
However then the man mentioned something interesting.
"Your dad?" He said eagerly. He glanced between her and the man before grinning broadly. This could be cool! A girl like her who was tough (and hot!) and bold was cool! So her dad must be... SUPER COOL! Like legitimately amazing! He was probably a superhero or something!
"Who's your dad? What's he do? Is he COOL? I wanna meet him!" Sirius said eagerly as he leaped up into the conversation.
"Do you two know each other or something?" The old man chuckled, at the same time bringing the sign down to the ground. Mina's eyes couldn't help but follow the sign, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "Her father works for the police. An inspector, see. Though I wouldn't say that he's 'cool'," Ouji gave another laugh as he climbed down the stairs, patting his sore back.
While the two were busy looking merry the self-proclaimed Ace Inspector herself was far from content. The girl looked somewhat dejected as she kept her eyes on the front sign of the restaurant, that had once been hanging proudly at the front of the store, now lying on the ground at the same level with the soles of her shoes. She gritted her teeth, her hands clenching into a fist, trying hard to hold back from lashing out at the old man as she raised her head to look at him. "You still have not answered my question. Why are you closing down the store?"
The old man stared at her for a few moments before giving a sigh. "Well... see, things change, Mina. I'm old, and I can't run a restaurant all by myself, especially at my age. Plus, we've been getting less and less customer since Subarashi Restaurant opened up a few years ago,"
...That's a stupid reason to close down the restaurant... That thought lingered around her mind as she silently turned around, leaving the two with a non-verbal indication not to talk to her.
"No! We don't know each other! I just met her! But she's pretty great! She stopped a criminal all by herself!" He said eagerly. He really was having a good time, being a complete KY about Mina's feelings and just enjoying having finally met someone like him that wanted to protect the city. "Eh.. Ah.. Oh! A police! That suit's Mina's image perfectly! A crime fighting family! I bet even her mom helps out!" He said eagerly as he looked from her to the shop.
His grin died down a bit as she turned her back. She was obviously pretty effected by all of this even if she wouldn't say so. Pretty strange for her to be so upset by the loss of a food place. It's not like it really mattered, right? So long as the old man was fine financially she could just find somewhere else to eat right..?
This was clearly about more than the food stand. Perhaps he'd picked the wrong day to go making heroes. She was clearly in no mood to deal with his banter. "Uh.. er.. We D-Don't have to eat, you know.. Since this is a bad time." He said forcing an awkward smile, not sure of how to act in this situation.
No, he's right. "This is not about the food," The girl muttered under her breath, refusing to make eye contact with either of them, as she quietly shuffled away from the spot.
"Sigh... that girl just wouldn't understand..." The old man shook his head as he folded up the ladder, resting it against the wall before noticing Sirius' concerned expression. "Oh, no. Don't worry about her. She comes here everyday, see," He decided he should at least fill him in with what he knew. Must be awkward to be sitting at the middle without knowing whatever is happening between the two sides. "Her mother was a friend of mine... she works for the cop too. Late Aria would always bring Mina here for dinner, every single day. I suppose she just got attached to this place... kept coming back every day even after her mother was gone. My cooking is the best, she used to say. Though partly because Aria herself can't cook to save her life. You could say they're my loyal customer," Ouji gave a wheezing laugh as he opened the sliding door, revealing a dusty and disorganized interior of an old ramen store.
"Those days were long gone though. Business went down when the supermarket came up, and people started drifting away. Mina's the only one who stayed. She told me, quite persistently to never close this shop. I think she also mentioned something about how her mother would be sad if such a great restaurant is closed down or something..." He gave a sigh. "But what can be done. One loyal customer can't help an old man keep a restaurant running,"
"I see..." He said in a low tone. Her mother had gone here? So what? Was it really that big a deal for your mother to go some place? Then again it was strange to imagine eating some place in public with your mother. His mom had never once done something like that. Maybe her family was strange? Then again they were poor so they couldn't afford to have meals prepared...
Well either way he completely failed to comprehend the issue. Honestly this girl didn't realize how lucky she was that her mother was dead. Sirius still lived under the thumb of his tyrannical parents. Parents were cruel and harsh and they only crushed their children down.. Why did she seem to miss hers..?
He took a deep breath an placed his hands on his sides. He dashed over to her and caught up shortly, interweaving his hands behind his head. "Sorry.. to hear about your mom.." He said with a slow, low voice. "I guess it's not easy loosing a spot you shared with her.." He said, still not exactly sure why that would be.
No, it's definitely not easy. Especially when you've been trying so hard to keep that place standing for years on end. "...I did not use to like that place," The girl suddenly spoke up after a moment of silence, keeping her gaze directed at her shoes. "The place was dusty, smelly, looks and feels cheap. Unfitting for someone like mom. And she would drag me there, every single day, just because she feels like it," Huh. That's strange, for someone like her to open up to someone she just met. "...Though I would not deny, the ramen is good,"
The girl stopped in her track, keeping her face down and her fist clenched tight. It was painful, really. To see the place her mother loved so much being taken down. It's already incredible that she would care so much about what her mother thinks.
"I have worked so hard... to keep that place alive... and there is no way I am stopping now!" She suddenly flared up, her face set with determination of keeping that place alive no matter what. "If he would not keep the store running then I will do it instead!" The girl was either incredibly stubborn, very stupid, stupidly stubborn or stubbornly stupid, or all of the above. There is one of the many rules of being an Ace Inspector, and that is to never give up on anything no matter how hopeless the situation is! "And you!" The girl turned around and snapped at Sirius, forcefully grabbing a handful of his shirt. "As my apprentice you are going to assist me!"
"I see.." He said glancing to her with a small grin. She really was a strange person afterall. It seemed like she was stubborn and refused to admit her true feelings, but at the same time she really was baring her heart to him even if they'd only just met. He glanced away from her grinning broadly. "Having lunch with you every day must have been hard.. Parents are busy people, after all... The fact she did that is proof she really wanted to spend time with you.. I can't even fathom what that was like.."
He looked to the horizon with a distant gaze, not really listening to her. What was a lunch with a family member like? Was it something worth keeping that place open for business jsut so you can preserve the spot? Was it really that good..?
All he remembered was a long empty table and the family eating in silence.. He didn't understand her feelings at all. "Mm... Yeah let's do it.." He said to her enthusiastic statement. However a moment later he realized what she'd been saying. "Wait, what? huh? We are? Huh?"
He'd already agreed though.... And.. And..
"A man always keeps his promises!"
Guh... Ibuki... that phrase was always so much trouble...!
"OKAY FINE, WHAT FIRST BOSS?"
