Dressed in trademark red Kaya Kobayashi was wandering around an area downtown with a few abandoned buildings. She was looking for a second ‘safe house’ that would be used in case of emergencies. Like any good criminal she had already several escape plans prepared since coming to Hyakuji, you know, just in case. Long ago she had learned to never let anything to chance, even the smallest things, and now she even had backup plans for the backup plans. Walking around a corner Kaya’s eyes landed on a building further down the street. It immediately caught her attention because it was a little bit secluded compared to the others and there were trees that shielded the windows from insight. It also had a driveway and a garage. “Perfect.” With excited steps the international thief got closer while looking over her shoulder, checking if there was someone watching her. The coast was clear and she proceeded to the nearest window, rubbing the dust away with he sleeve so she could peek in. It was dark and dusty and seemingly empty. After another cautious look around and over her shoulder Kaya walked over to the front door and tried the handle. She let out a surprised “Oh!” as she realized the door was unlocked. Swinging it open and stepping in she quickly closed it behind her, incase someone was walking down the street at the same time. However, what met her eyes was absolutely not what she had expected. |

The interior of the seemingly empty building was far from dark, dusty and empty. In fact, the inside of the building was quite bright and noisy with a number of strange sound and noises, lightened not just by the fluorescent lamp on the ceiling, but also the flames flickering under a small cauldron at the far corner of the room, the dimly glowing blue liquid inside the cauldron that seemed to emit yellowish spark before dissipating in midair. There's a couple of stands right next to the small cauldron, each of them having three fiery glowing rods stacked around a central iron rod. At the opposite side of the wall there were book racks filled with, aside from the various amount of tomes and grimoires, jars and test tubes filled with rainbow colored liquids, something that looked like severed animal limbs, plants and herbs, most notably mushrooms. There also seem to be a large toolbox hidden tucked neatly under the table, but that's about the only part of the small... house (?), That seemed neat. Because the rest of the interior was in complete shambles. Something that seemed like pieces of machinery scattered all over the floor, books that failed to fit on the book rack at the wall was strewn around carelessly, a telescope was lying broken on the floor, along with numerous other junks and things that seemed to have been picked up from a pawn shop or the junk yard or the forest, ranging from but never limited to gears, old handheld gaming platforms, masks, broken silver swords, empty potion bottles, children's toys... god, it's like a junkyard here. You just can't tell whether this is just the dumping spot for garbage or a collector's haven. Hidden underneath all of the junks and trash was a bed that seemed as though it had never been made or used. It's a pretty lively place, but at the same time it was a bit depressing seeing how terribly messy it was. Doesn't seem like there's anyone around... was it really empty? You could barely see through the door leading to the kitchen with all these mess. |

Kaya wrinkled her nose at the sight that met her, wondering how on earth she could have missed all this junk when she peeked through the window. There was also the fact that this was obviously someone’s home and, despite the door being unlocked, she had just done some classic breaking and entering, although, without really knowing it or being prepared for it. “Shit,” the young female muttered and she quickly scanned the room, hoping that whoever lived there had just gone out, hence the unlocked door, or was further in and hadn’t noticed her yet. Wasting no time Kaya turned around and pressed down the handle. She had a new identity now and had just gotten the perfect job; she couldn’t afford getting the wrong kind of attention such as a being reported to the police. Especially over something this trivial, it was an embarrassment! However, for the second time this day she would open the door and wouldn’t be seeing what she was expecting and she was gaping at the sight. Instead of the street she was staring out at a dense dark forest. What in hell was going on here!? |

What's going on indeed. It's probably wise to at least try pinching your cheek just to make sure you're not dreaming. But then again, even if she did try it it wouldn't change a thing. Still though, what are the chances of anyone bumping into a door that trespasses the fabric of space itself? The woman would probably be a bit too preoccupied with the strangeness that's occurring to her at the moment to notice it, but somewhere from the denseness of the wood, there was a faint humming sound, accompanying the chirping birds and little rustle of leaves. Then, it stopped. The silence lasted for a few moments until- "SO WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?" A loud and potentially deafening yell into her left ear. Regardless of how she would handle it, she would later notice a blond boy with a braid wearing a pointy black hat and a black vest over a white shirt, hovering a few feet in the air just behind her on a besom broom with a grin on his face. |

Taking a few steps forward and leaving the door open behind her, Kaya looked around the area while wondering if it was some sort of illusion. She had walked through that door just a few moments ago, how could it now lead to a forest in the middle of nowhere? Maybe someone was trying to play some sort of trick on her? But who? She was new in town and hardly knew anyone well enough to be subjected to this kind of practical joke… No, this had to be one of the supernatural citizen’s doings. She had read enough articles in the archives to know that people had all kinds of powers, but seeing it on display like this didn’t make it less astonishing. "SO WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?" Instinctively Kaya jumped back as both of her hands flew up in a defensive stance. She should have been more alert, it was a rookie mistake despite the unusual circumstances, but at least she adapted quickly to the situation. “Hey! You didn’t have to yell, I hear you perfectly fine,” she said in her usual, somewhat husky, voice as she looked at the young lad on the broom, assuming he was a wizard due to his appearance. Planting one hand on her curvy hip Kaya gestured around them at the forest with her other well-manicured hand, “I seem to have unexplainably lost my way. I was following an anonymous tip to an abandoned building but as I exited it I was somehow transported here.” She explained it all very convincingly before her eyes narrowed slightly and an alluring smirk curved her red lips, “Say, is it possible that this is all your doing?” |

"Not just possible, but very probable. In fact, it's a fact!" No reason to hide stuff, is there? Not unless he was actually aiming to prank some unknown citizen who just happened to sneak into an abandoned building somewhere in the middle of downtown. For whatever reason. "Sorry about that though, I should've changed the Point while I'm out. I had a couple of drunks wandering in the way you did just a few days ago..." The boy rubbed his neck, not exactly considering the fact that she might not have any idea of whatever he's talking about. Swinging his leg over the hovering broom he leaped off to the ground, snatching the broom from midair and resting it on his shoulder. "Kirisame Izumi, an ordinary magician. Pleasure to meet you," The boy said in a cool tone that was the exact opposite of what he just used moments ago, swiping his hat off his head and giving a small formal bow. "May I know the name of the charming lady?" |

“I see,” Kaya murmured as the boy confirmed that this was all his doing, however, she was slightly confused at the mentioning of changing ‘ the point’. What did that even mean? Wasn’t this an illusion? His ability even surpassed her own. Laughing lightly at his introduction she said, “Oh, I doubt you are just an ordinary magician,” she gestured around them once again, “you were able to make such a grand illusion after all.” She eyed him for a short silent moment to observe his reaction before introducing herself, “I’m Kaya, Kaya Kobayashi! Investigative reporter at your service.” She made a little playful salute and winked at Izumi at the same time. Continuing on her story about an anonymous tip she added with a devilish grin, “And you, Krisame Izumi, have just become my next story.” Things had taken an interesting turn and Kaya was curious to learn more. Especially about his magic and… the broom. She looked at it with glittering eyes while hearing adventure calling. “Are you done riding for today?” she asked and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and tilted her head to the side at the same time. A daring smile tugged at the corners of her lips, “Would you mind taking me for a ride?” Edited by Lelil, Mar 19 2012, 07:59 AM.

"Oh no, dear miss. I beg of you, please do not mix up a mere illusionist and a magician," The boy rose from his bow, replacing he black pointy hat on his head with a smirk. So she thought all this is just an illusion? It's quite possible that she had never actually seen real magic in action before. "I assure you, good lady. An ordinary magician, I simply am. However I wouldn't mind having a story written about me," The boy swung the broom off his shoulder, planting it on the ground and leaning against it, crossing his leg and giving a sparkling salute and a wink. So charming~ "Did I mishear that, a ride you say?" The boy said somewhat eagerly, cupping his hand around his ear before suddenly tipping the broom to its side, where it fell and somewhat stopped in midair, hovering a few feet above the ground. "Isn't that question a bit silly? How can you ride a mere illusion?" Izumi gave her a teasing grin as he sat on the broom and started to rise a few more feet into the air until he was a few meters above her. The ordinary magician tapped his chin thoughtfully, muttering, "But if you don't mind an illusion..." All of a sudden he shot forward, circling around her in a large arc before swooping down on her, and in one swift motion swiped her off her feet, holding her securely in his arm before zooming rapidly towards the sky without a care of whatever hellishly fearful terror he had just struck in the woman's mind. |

The mentioning of ‘mere illusionists’ didn’t get so much as an eyebrow quirk from Kaya. After all, the only power she was currently willingly to admit having was her feline finesse, and even that was something she didn’t want to draw unnecessary attention to. She did however like Izumi’s easygoing nature and how he didn’t mind being the subject of a story, despite it being made up. He seemed like a fun guy. Kaya laughed her husky laughter as Izumi cupped his hand around his ear. “Yes, I want you to take me on a broom ride! I have never tried it before.” If there was something this international thief enjoyed it was trying new adventurous things and getting adrenaline rushes. Looking at Izumi with eager eyes as he sat on his broom and hovered a few feet above the ground, Kaya could feel her anticipation grow. She wanted to be on it. Now! As if her wish had been his command the ordinary wizard swished down and swooped her off her feet. Her loud surprised scream quickly turned into a jubilant laughter as they ascended and Kaya held on tight around Izumi’s waist. Eyes wide in wonder and a big bright smile on her face she exclaimed, “This is amazing!” Kaya's short brown hair whipped around her face and her red skirt fluttered wildly in the wind as they flew over the dense forest. She had of course flown before but never like this, it felt both dangerous and thrilling at the same time. And this also proved that it wasn’t some kind of trick. Resting her chin on Izumi's shoulder for a moment Kaya said next to his ear, “Okay, I admit it. You are no mere illusionist.” Smiling she then added teasingly, “Now, this is all very nice... for old people. So how about you go faster and maybe some loops?” Kaya then suddenly lifted her head as if she had been snapped out of the mood and with a confused expression looked from side to side, like something had caught her attention. "Wait a minute..." she mumbled to herself before frowning slightly and tilting her head to the side as if to hear better, "Hey, Izumi! Do you hear that music?" |

"Nope, and nor do I care!" Izumi shouted in exhilaration over the wind whipping past them as they soared rapidly over the dense forest, rapidly gaining altitude. It didn't take long until they were high enough to actually see the perimeter of the forest, and the city of Hyakuji itself just up ahead. It's not just Kaya who was excited about this. Even after flying for nearly his whole life one could never rid him of the joy of flying. Of all the parts of being a magician, flying is easily Izumi's favorite part. Being able to fly around unhindered by the traffic or laws gives that sense of freedom that no other activity could give him. Free from the shackles of the world to do whatever that you want! "Ohoo? You're a wild one, aren't you?" The ordinary magician turned around to look at her at her request with a grin. She's not just curious, but an adventurous one too, huh. Hahah! He likes her already! "Your wish is my command, ma'am," The boy tipped his hat at her slightly, before turning his attention back to the front, now flying past the perimeter of the forest and entering the high-rise building zone of the city. "Now hold on tight! It's gonna be a bumpy ride~" Just when we thought he can't go any faster, he did exactly that. She's gonna get more than she bargained for, as he shot forward like a bullet towards the concrete forest, weaving and swerving past buildings and buildings and more buildings, sometimes being close enough to actually scrape the sides, the whole ride being worse/better than the worst/best roller coaster ride around. "Hold on to your hat, this one's gonna be WILD!" The ordinary magician yelled yet again, setting his sight at the biggest and tallest concrete behemoth of the whole city, the Frostfire Corporate building. As the boy shot forward, seemingly in a collision course with the side of the building he pulled hard on the end of the broom, tipping it upward hard until they were quite literally vertically facing up. Their speed never diminished as Izumi scaled up the building, being close enough for their feet to actually touch the side of the building, his eyes locked on to the very top of the construction. Oh but... there's trouble. The decrease in speed was slight that it was probably unnoticeable, but to Izumi who was the most familiar with his broom's workings, felt that it was a bit jarring, and probably a bit worrisome. The maximum altitude the broom could achieve was less than the actual height of the building, and there's a chance that it could fail before reaching the safety of the rooftop. Of course, he could stop now and take a u-turn to the ground... but where's the fun in that! "Come on... just a little bit more..." The boy said with a grin, egging his broom to climb up more as its loss of speed had started to become extremely noticeable, to the point where they were nearly at a completely stop- "Made it!" Izumi said in triumph, finally steering the broom to a more stable horizontal position and onto the rooftop just before the broom died off. The boy let out a satisfied sigh as he leaped off the broom and onto the rooftop, offering his hand to Kaya to help her off as well. "I welcome you to the best sightseeing spot in the whole city," The ordinary magician said with a smile, waving one hand around the whole scenery. |

The acceleration made Kaya squeal with delight and she hugged Izumi tighter from behind as she could feel herself slipping down the broom a little. The fact that they were zigzagging in-between high-rise buildings close enough to touch them gave her an incredible rush. He was being so daring and bold in his maneuvers that Kaya had no other choice but to be impressed by the way he was piloting the broom. She gasped, yelped and laughed loudly during the rollercoaster-like ride and replied to Izumi with a broad and happy grin as he seemed to aim for the Frostfire Skyscraper, “I’m not wearing a hat!” And then, for two seconds, she let her grip around his waist go with one hand and took off his hat to place it on her head, “But now I do!” Laughing happily Kaya once again held on to Izumi and braced herself, as it for a moment looked like they were going to crash straight into the large glass complex. Kaya felt how her gut suddenly dropped when the ordinary wizard changed directions at the last second, shooting them straight up alongside the building at an incredible speed. Not until the broom had notably decreased in speed did she realize that something was wrong. Peaking from behind Izumi’s shoulder Kaya glanced at him, hearing how he egged his broom to go on further. For the first time during their ride she was actually worried, swallowing hard she hoped that they wouldn’t suddenly drop from the air and go SPLAT! on the asphalt down below. “Nnngh,” Kaya braced herself and squeezed her eyes closed when it felt like the broom had made a complete stop, but opened her eyes in disbelief when she heard the wizard’s triumphant shout. “Yes! Yes, we did!” she cried out in relief and happiness watching the boy jump off the broom and offer her a hand. Taking it with a broad grin, despite that she didn’t really need any help, Kaya stepped down on the rooftop while holding on to his hat that was now on her head. She spun around to get the 360-degree view before halting and looking in the direction Izumi was gesturing at. “This is incredible,” the thief breathed as her gaze swooped over city, drinking in the marvelous sight. |

"Admittedly though, I've seen better but whatever. It's pretty cool," The ordinary magician said with a sigh as he slipped the hat off her head and slapped it back on his head, kicking the broom upwards and grabbing the handle, resting it on his shoulder. "I had to give it to you though, you sure are a daring one," The boy tipped his hat at her with a grin. It really had been a while since he met someone with such passion for danger. Yep, he definitely likes her a lot. |

Kaya followed Izumi with her eyes as he walked towards her and retrieved his hat. She smirked at him mischievously as he commented on her daring nature and said a she walked closer to the edge, “Well, I’m glad that you were able to meet my requests.” Gazing over the buildings for a silent moment Kaya then suddenly spun around on her heel with a grin, “Hey! I need to interview you!” Lifting up a hand she beckoned with a finger and a teasing wink. Fishing out a little notepad out of her jacket pocket Kaya then realized that she didn’t have a pen on her. “Dammit. Pen…” she muttered as she patted her empty pockets and looked around as if one would instantly appear. It didn’t. However, suddenly, out of f*cking nowhere, the sound of a chopper could be heard above their heads and the rotating propellers made Kaya’s skirt flutter in the wind and show more than just the absolute territory. Looking up in shock and stepping away from the edge of the building she watched how a man was hoisted down a line directly above her. The man stopped a few feet above her head, hanged suspended in the air looking like a parachute jumper and held out a… pen? Completely baffled and with bulging eyes Kaya stretched her hand up, took the pen and then gasped in surprise at how at the exact same moment she did that the chopper flew away, with the man still hanging down from it. “Erm… okay,” she said slightly hesitant and confused about what had just happened before putting pen to paper and smiling playfully at Izumi, “First question; Can you teach me fly a broom?” Edited by Lelil, Mar 20 2012, 06:29 PM.

...That was very strange. Anyway, "I'll take the excellent view just now as payment for an hour's worth of broom riding course," Izumi said somewhat unabashedly as he pointed the end of the broom handle at her with an approving nod. Yes, he's just that shameless. It's this trait that usually makes him as repulsive as he is equally likable to everyone else. Not that he cared, because if he did he would've had more tact. "But not now, I'm afraid. I have a store to attend to," The boy pushed his hat slightly with his broom before tossing it into the air, where it stopped and hovered a few feet above the ground. "I can give you a ride back down, if you want," Oh, so now he's asking for her consent? ~~~~~ This time it was more of a cruise ride. Because seriously, too much swerving around can make you sick after a while. Floating down gently from the top of the Frostfire Corporate building he hovered around the typical heights of the buildings around them, watching the rooftops and people and vehicles pass underneath like miniature toys. Even if people flew everyday on planes and stuff, flying on a broom gives a much different vibe and sense of freedom unachievable by conventional flights. It didn't take long for them to reach Izumi's intended destination, which turned out to be the very same abandoned store/house Kaya had stumbled the magical door, leading her to meet the magical boy. "Thank you for using Kirisame's Transportation Service, we wish you a good day ahead," The boy said as he dropped on the ground and gave a formal bow. "If you wish to contact me, which I don't doubt, you can do so at this very door, where I'll be available at hour 0933 to 1212 every Wednesday and Thursday barring the rest of the week," The ordinary magician straightened himself up, slipping the black pointy hat back on his head as he gave her another sparkling smile and a wink, "Later then~" before passing through the door, and closing it behind him. If she decides to follow him for whatever reason, the girl would find not the magically bright and noisy room full of magical things, but a dark, dusty and completely empty chamber of a house/store. |

Recognizing the abandoned house she had entered before finding herself in the woods, Kaya was starting to understand the logic behind Izumi’s magical door a little bit better. During their ride back she had been asking him several questions for her article, which in the beginning had just been a lie but now actually had become a little fluff piece they could use in tomorrows issue of Hyakuji Daily. Kaya was still scribbling down his ‘opening hours’ on her little notepad when Izumi bid her adieu. She looked up from her pad and surprisedly called out to the closing door, “Wait, what?” Hurrying after him she opened the door, “Give me your number so that I can call you about the broom-“ Kaya silenced as she stepped in and saw nothing in the room but a dusty floor and an old crushed soda can in the far corner. All of the junk and magical things had completely vanished. “Hello? Izumi?” the young thief called out despite that it was obvious that no one was there. Turning around she exited the building with a crooked smile. He really was something, that ordinary wizard. ~*~ Magic is everywhere green grass bubble glitter swirls anime backdrop ~*~ The end. |
