Emiko slowly sipped on her tea, looking at Deus on the other side of the table from behind the cup, and avoiding talking about last nights sleeping arrangements. They were up early this morning so that they could use the remaining time in Tokyo to the fullest before they took the train back to Hyakuji later tonight. Although, Emi wasn’t completely sure of what they were going to do today. Typically of her she had actually made a schedule of things to do before the trip, but as soon as Deus mentioned that he preferred taking things in strides she had thrown the whole plan out of the window just to please him. The girl made a little sigh. Man… she was being way to eager to please him but hopefully he didn’t notice anything.

~~

Pulling her cap down on her head Emiko looked up and down the street. In a fashion forward city like Tokyo Emiko’s plain and boring style became a little more prominent but she didn’t really care that much. Turning to Deus she happily asked him, “Is there anything special you want to do, or should we just stroll around?”

The weather wasn’t perfect, it was a little cloudy and windy, and considering the rain yesterday it wasn’t impossible that it would rain again. They would probably need to seek shelter in a… hmmm…. let’s say… A KARAOKE PLACE WITH SMALL PRIVATE ROOMS! But yeah, that will be later on, it hasn’t started raining yet~

YEAH YEAH I GET THE MESSAGE, THANKS FOR BEING SUBTLE.

Deus glanced to the girl with a small laugh. "Stroll around..? Seems like an awfully dull vacation if we just wander aimlessly.." He said as he looked around them for something interesting. "While I like to go at my own pace it's at least good to see a few interesting things since we're here.."

Well the truth was he'd be just as happy taking a nap on a rooftop, but he knew she must be antsy to do something fun since they were so far from home. He could understand that desire, a bit. It's not like he was an alien or something. At the very least when he was on a trip he wanted to try something new. Though truth be told if it were him he'd be out at a baseball game from dusk til' dawn. However, he did spot something interesting here while looking.

"Oh.. a planetarium... I've always liked the stars. Because I've lived in a city my whole life I rarely get to see them. My dad took me to an observatory once, but this could be interesting.." He said glancing to her. "What do you say..?"nWell He asked that but one might wonder why he bothered because it was obvious by the way he was walking right up to the counter to buy tickets that he fully intended to go whether she wanted to or not.

“Oh?” Emiko mumbled as Deus explained why he’d like to visit the planetarium. She had never thought of it that way and the fact that he didn’t get to see them that often surprised her a little. Perhaps she was just used to them, since they were always present up in the sky and they shone very brightly where she lived. However, Emi had to admit that she wasn’t the type who would lie on her back out in the grass and stare up at the heavens. She tended to utilize her time more efficiently and be more practical. Why be lazy out in the grass when she could do some sports, finish homework, catch up on some reading or complete chores?

Seeing how the question had been more rhetorical than an actually desire for her opinion, Emiko followed Deus with a small eye roll up to the counter. Grabbing one of the brochures Emi said in a nonchalant tone as she opened it up and started to skim the pages, “If the true reason for you wanting to go somewhere dark is so that you can nap undisturbed, then rest assured that I will force Chronus to tell me, Every. Single. One. Of your embarrassing childhood memories.” She closed the brochure, flashed Deus a bight innocent smile and then walked ahead to the entrance of the exhibit.

'... she might know me too well....'

Besides, what was with that weirdly threatening aura?! For someone that was usually calm and kind... this kind of thing was pretty shocking. Perhaps Emiko had a dark side..? A side to her where even she could be cruel and dangerous?

Pffft, yeah right. That dork couldn't scare a flea.

...that said, no napping inside. He'd just obey that little command out of loyalty, not fear! Obviously he wasn't scare of Emiko. No matter how menacing her aura had been when she warned him about it...

Yeah...

Well anyhow!

~~

The seats were laid back, reclined so they could look up at the ceiling. However it was a bit awkward for Deus as he looked over and saw Emiko laying beside him. He glanced away from her to the ceiling His eyes tracing along the artificial skies as the voice droned on about various constelations.

Deus took the initiative to point out to her various things of his own, often filling in gaps the voice didn't speak about or his own personal experiences. "Ah! The summer triangle.. Of course everyone knows about Tanbata.." He said trailing off. "Only meeting once a year.. That's rough.." He said as he folded his hands over his stomach. "I used to think it was stupid when my mom told me about it. That no one could endure only seeing each other once a year and even then only when the skies are clear.."

"Not really, anymore though. I understand it a bit.." He said as he looked between them. "Altair, Vega, and Deneb that connects them. Soon we'll be able to see them again at night. Another summer, and another chance for them to meet. Perhaps it's cruel that they only get one day a year, but inversely they can see each other forever. They'll never really be parted.."

They'd never die, was of course what he was thinking.

Emiko lied down on the chair beside Deus and looked up at the ceiling. She squirmed a little in the seat, feeling slightly awkward. Why were they constantly getting themselves in situations like this? These kind of setting made her get the wrong impression and her mind tended to drift.

As Deus spoke and pointed at the artificial night sky Emiko found herself looking more at him than the stars. She could see them anytime. But him? Like this? No. She admired his profile in the dark for a little bit, smiling to herself before glancing down at his hands. Closing her eyes for a short moment she imagined how it would feel if he reached for her hand and held on to it, giving it a warm squeeze while the different constellations shone over their heads. He would turn his head towards her, meet her gaze and smile one of his rare smiles…

Suddenly it felt like something pressed down on her heart hard. Emiko winced in discomfort and moved up a clenched hand to her chest. It was so painful sometimes, even heartrending enough that it brought tears to her eyes, and yet, despite her suffering, she was happy. Happy to be able to stay close to him, happy that she could rely on him and happy that he could do the same. That was all she needed now.

Feeling her cheeks warm and her heart throb Emiko turned her face back up at the stars. “You should come visit me this summer,” she whispered out in the dark, doing her best to act like her heart wasn’t racing in anticipation and that the side of her body that was closest to him didn’t tingle. “We could look at the real ones together. I could pack us bentos and bring a blanket, and we would just…” her voice trailed off and died. Emi was afraid she had slipped up and taken it too far but somehow she managed to force out an awkward save by adding, "...just hang out."

Deus looked to her for a moment before glancing to the roof. He felt a bit uncomfortable about that and he wasn't even sure why. Go to her home.. Her family would be there. What kind of life did they live in their house? What was it like being there. What would that be like... no matter how he thought about it he couldn't imagine what a life like that was. Such a strange group, Emiko included.

"Perhaps.." He said as he looked towards her. However as he looked to her he noticed her looking at the stars. He glanced away from her, as he fixed his eyes on the stars, trying not to glance her way too much. This strange atmosphere hanging over them seemed to choke the words out of him. His usual complete lack of concern was abandoned in favor of nervous reserve.

"Well if I have time.." He said finally breaking the silence. "I've got a lot of really important naps planned for summer." He glanced to her, leaning over his chair as he grinned. "Unless you want to sleep with me? Ohohoh~ How bold.." He said eagerly. He turned from her placing his hands behind his head. "How cunning~ You're trying to lure me away to your little home. Just the two of us living like newly weds. Eating, sleeping, and even bathing together~ Women are just.... so amazingly bold.."

"Wait.. don't tell me... you want to do.. THAT?!" He said, feigning shock as he sat up and glanced over to her. "My my~"

“Eeeh!?” Emiko shrunk back in her chair, moving slightly away from Deus as he leaned over his own chair and grinned devilishly at her, putting words in her mouth and claiming that she was cunningly planning all sorts of things. “Baka terrorist!” Emi hissed, struggling to sit straight up in her chair, “Of course not! Stop acting like an idiot,” she demanded and glared at him while an angry red blush colored her cheeks.

She tried to keep her cool, at least somewhat, but her heart was pounding from nervousness in her chest despite that none of the accusations were true. “If I had wanted ’That’ then it would have happened last night, and NOT in my parents home.” Emiko crossed her arms over her chest, blew her bangs from her face and lifted her nose as she looked off to the side. That pose lasted about four seconds before she realized what she had actually said, and she turned her head back to Deus with and expression of horror.

“No! I didn’t mean that! I-I-I’m not saying I would seduce you!” Emiko tried to explain panicky while waving her hands in the air, “I mean I wouldn’t do it that way! No! I mean it wouldn’t happen there! You would have to love me. Nononono! I mean… Argh!” she hid her face in her hand, deadly embarrassed by her little tirade. Still hiding her face in her hand Emiko suddenly lifted up her other one and pointed directly at Deus, “Don’t even think about replying to that. I don’t want to hear anything. Not. One. Single. Word. Terrorist.”

After taking a few deep breaths Emiko dropped her hands and glance at Deus before turning her head away. “Let’s go to the souvenir shop. I want to buy something for my friends.”

Wait, what? What was she talking about now? This was insane! What was coming out of her mouth? Last night? She.. what? Love? Seduce? What? What? Did she even realize the implications of what she was saying? Did she mean that she wanted to.. that she'd thought about.. with him...?!

What..?

...What...?

What..?

Uhm.. yeah. Don't mention it that was probably for the best. However not mentioning rapidly turned into awkward silence. Which she broke with her request to buy some souvenirs. He had to admit that was pretty brave of her. She'd vomited at the mouth abotu them doing.. well.. that..

..wow...

Anyhow, and now she was restarting the conversation all obn her own. He'd have to reward that effort on her end by complying and making things less weird on his. "Let's go~" He said eagerly. He wandered over towards the shop, tucking his hands deep into his pockets as he looked around.

"Souvenirs for friends is one of many reasons I don't make friends. What needy bastards.."

Still with a faint blush on her cheeks Emiko walked beside Deus towards the souvenir shop. She tried to act natural but there was no denying in that that had just been a very awkward situation. To be honest, this whole trip had been a series of weird and embarrassing things happening one after the other, and she sure hadn’t made it better by blurting out such nonsense. She was really starting to lose control of her feelings…

Browsing among the different items in the shops Emiko picked out a small array of different things, ranging from key chains, magnets, small plushies and a large map of the constellations for herself. When they were done they headed out towards the exit only to see that it was raining heavily. “Wait there, I’ll be right back,” Emi shouted over her to Deus as she ran back to the shop.

A few minutes later Emiko returned with an umbrella. “Sorry, I didn’t have enough money to buy two so we’ll have to share. I hope you don’t mind,” she smiled at him apologetically before opening it up, stepping closer to Deus and pointing at the inside of the umbrella as it unfolded. “Look. You see? The sales lady said that they also glow in the dark.” The whole inside of the umbrella was a complete planisphere covered in stars and different constellations while the outside was a plain dark blue. She really liked it and a part of her was almost glad that it was raining and that she had decided to go back and buy it. Holding the umbrella over their heads Emiko couldn’t help herself and made a bad pun while grinning, “Do you feel star struck?”

"Enh..? I don't.. particularly mind.. or anything.." He said, rubbing his neck as he moved over towards the girl and drew close to her taking the umbrella from her and holding it over them, and drawing in Emiko close to him so they could both fit under it... How did they keep ending up in these situations?! Everything on this trip was bound and determined to force the two into increasingly awkward situations and it was beginning to annoy him quite severely! It really was almost like she was some sort of master tactician that had planned all of this out ahead of time.

Could that be possible? No... surely not.. However, this situation was oddly perfect. And she had that unexpected dark aura before. Was it possible she was only pretending to be a goofy girl who got easily flustered all this time and in reality she was some sort of romance master? He glanced to her, eyeing her warily for a moment before bursting to laughter. No one on Earth was that good at acting..

In the end this was just a series of improbably misadventures that just kept compounding. "Let's go somewhere outside of the rain..." He said as he looked around. "Kareoke places.. well I suppose that's fine..." He said guiding them over to it. He only had a little bit of money left now.. He bought them both an hour and some drinks and went inside, exhaling a long breath. "So... what kind of song..?"

Might as well, right? They were already here so they might as well try it out. It might be fun, though Deus wasn't that into singing or modern music. OH well it was better than just sitting there doing nothing.

Emiko gave Deus a strange look as he out of nowhere started to laugh. Feeling slightly weirded out by his behaviors she kept on walking in silence, hugging her shopping bag from the planetarium to keep the stuff out from the rain. That also meant standing very close to Deus, in fact their arms and shoulders had to be in constant contact, pressing against each other so that both of them could fit under the umbrella.

Like always whenever Deus was around and close to her Emiko felt this intoxicating rush of happiness that made her heart swell and thump loudly in her chest. At times her ears would ring and she could barely hear what anyone was saying…

“-suppose that's fine..."

“Huh?” snapping back to reality Emiko confusedly looked up at her friend while simultaneously being led to a colorful karaoke place. “Eeeh?” her eyes widened, “Karaoke?!”

Emiko was sitting with her hands on her knees adorning a slightly uncomfortable expression. It might have seemed like a good idea at first to have fun while singing karaoke, but it didn’t take a rocket scientist to soon realize that neither Deus nor Emiko had a colorful bubbly personality with the habit of easily put themselves out there and starting goofing off. In fact, this was only Emi’s second time at a karaoke bar since the first time had been enough for her to determine it really wasn’t her cup of tea.

You can do this! It is easy, just pick a song and sing! Don’t think too much about it, Emiko mentally encouraged herself. Things would never go back to normal if she was too stiff and dry about it, so she really needed to make an effort. Grabbing a random drink that Deus had bought Emiko downed it quickly due to her nervousness and then stood up, pumping a fist in the air, “Yosh!” Since did a lot of sports she was trying to see it as a competition with a clear goal; completing a song to her best ability. Nothing else mattered and it would automatically make her the winner.

With the microphone in hand Emiko played the song and spun around, looking at Deus and taking her first tone.

It was so obvious that Emiko was extremely embarrassed but she powered through it like a champ, even taking small nervous sidesteps to the beat of the music. Her Engrish also became more prominent than usual due to the speed of the song and the fact that she didn’t know the lyrics that well and they were just flashing by on the screen. Either way, Emi kept at it, her voice was off tune and even cracked at higher notes but still, at the end of the song, she actually got into the whole thing and had a triumphant smile on her face when she was done while waiting for her score, "I totally won."

Deus took the mic, however rather than follow the lyrics on screen he turned to Emiko, staring directly at her as he sag, he knew this one due to his otaku lifestyle. This goofy anime with a really cool main character he liked quite a lot.

Meta

Anyhow Deus turned to her approaching her quickly while singing eagerly directly at her. Once again he was terrorizing her. Meanwhile he hit his notes rather well, partly because he wasn't bad at singing and partly because he knew this song pretty well beforehand and so he didn't need to do much guesswork. Plus it's in Japanese, not English. Though he was obviously proficient at both.

Once it ended he scoffed as his score climbed over hers quite easily. He spun the mic a bit as he grew more egotistical. "OH my~ Look at that~ Hohohoho.."

He was a relentless, malevolent, provoking, aggravating terrorist! And much more!

With her back pressed against the wall as Deus sang directly at her and saw it fit to even get closer, Emiko was gritting her teeth praying for the song to be a short one. She really couldn’t take more of this. He was just too…

Good!

It was so hard to restrain herself from fawning or swooning and getting into the mood as he sang. Sweat beads started to form as her heart beat wildly in her chest, Emiko was starting to lose control and despite all of her grimacing and jaw clenching it happened… Slowly it started to drip red from her nose.

Posted Image

Deus had just unlocked another ‘nosebleed inducing’ action.

Quickly rubbing it away she waited for Deus to finish the song before she opened her mouth to speak. “Let me guess,” Emiko said slightly panting from the previous exertion of trying to keep herself under wraps, “You had singing lessons as a child? And sometimes during dinner parties the Duchess would as you to sing for them?”

He grinned cockily as he rubbed her head a bit teasingly. "You're so easy!" He said eagrly. He took otu a CD from the cabinet and held it between his fingertips. "Meanwhile your singing has been dutifully recorded on this tape! Nice work mister CD!"

~~~
Shortly after with the rain stopped coming down in such force the two made their way out. He sighed heavily as he looked around. "Things like this don't come around very often, I have to admit it was fun.. a bit.. intense at times, but fun.." He said walking beside her, looking over.
"So is there anything left you want to do before going? You might not have another chance." He said carrying their bags as they walked down the streets. He felt a bit disheartened to be honest. This had been so much fun and so entertaining that going back to the doldrums seemed almost... criminal.
“Nah, I’m fine. I don’t want to be late to the train,” Emiko replied with a smile as she glanced back at Deus, “Tokyo will always be here waiting until next time. Besides, this isn’t really the end of our traveling together. There is still that baseball tournament we have tickets to.” She adjusted her handbag over her shoulder while humming quietly on one of the songs Deus had sung in the karaoke bar.
At the train station Emiko told Deus to go ahead without her, “I’m just going to the store to get us some drinks and snacks. I’ll be right back.” She turned around and took a few steps before looking over her shoulder with a smirk, “If you take a nap and our bags get stolen you will have to compensate~” With a small wave Emiko hurried to the small store to pick out a small assortment of snacks for the train ride.
Done with her shopping and standing by the cash register Emiko snapped her head to the side and quickly looked over her shoulder, scanning the aisles with a frown. Since entering the store it had felt like someone was watching her, but she never saw someone.
“Will that be all?”
“Huh?” Emiko turned her head back to the cashier, “Oh! Yes, sorry.” She reached for her wallet when something black moving outside her peripheral vision suddenly caught her eye. Glancing up Emi saw a suit clad man exiting the store without any items in hand, like he hadn’t bought anything. There was also something familiar about him… Without thinking about it she called out to him, making the man turn around and stare directly at the violet-eyed girl. It suddenly clicked who it was and Emiko lifted a hand in an awkward wave while the cashier smacked her tongue impatiently.
Suddenly the man took off running without looking back.
“Eh? Wait! Wait a minute!” Emiko called out and ran after the suit clad man in pursuit, leaving her items unpaid for by the cash register.
