Valentine had taken into consideration what Meglumar had said a few days ago, take interest in the humans around her to gain information. As she looked around books and other materials, the was one name that came up when dealing with magic, "Hiro Tsukasa". She had heard this name before, after a bit of remembering, remembering that this was a teacher at her "school". Not only was he a teacher but he was her homeroom teacher, as well as the teacher that was on the mission to go back in time. Valentine had to speak with this teacher, writing on a piece of paper a small note.

She decided to deliver the note to his desk in the teachers lounge when no one was around, sliding it under a small paperweight for him to notice when he came back. The note read:

"I wish to speak to you on a matter that you may have great knowledge on. Your presence is required at the springs and I wish to speak to you and you alone. The scheduled time will be at the time of twilight." The note was written with precision, no sloppy handwriting or a signature were present.

[Time of Twilight]
Valentine was already in the hotspring, happily rid of her clothing. She had her head rested back and staring at the sky, hoping that he got the message. This was her first time she had actually relaxed since coming to Earth, the hot water calming some of her nerves and tense muscles. If she was seen by an actual masseuse, they'd describe her body as a wreck. She lowered her body into the water with her nose just above water, slowly moving around in the water.

For once, she was actually enjoying something, something other than herself. She looked around at the scenery at the spring, taking in a deep breath and sighing. It was a good thing that the water wasn't so deep, Valentine not being an avid swim and more of a sinker. She looked up at the sky once again, the time for the meeting coming close. She moved over to the other end of the spring, coming up and sitting on the edge of the spring with only her lower legs and feet in.

"Ah man," Hiro sighed with frustration as he moved past the welcome desk and headed on back further towards the actual hot springs, "What student leaves a note wanting to meet their teacher at a hot spring?!" Between Arcadia and the school's own problems Hiro kept rather busy; and this was the last thing he needed. Shaking his head slowly, the mage glanced down at the robe he wore. They wouldn't permit him to enter wearing street clothes so he unavoidably had to change into one of the robes the hot springs provided for guests.

This whole situation has pay dock written all over it, Hiro mused in his head as he continued on passing several other springs seeking out the one in question. If they weren't in his home room or the class he taught then every teacher still at least held some office hours. Plus, Hiro had always been frank in his willingness to help students even if they turned up at Eldritch Influence when school wasn't even session. So why the mystery note? Why the hot springs? Why all this cloak and dagger methods? What matters did he have a lot of experience on that was needed? Magic? It had to be magic. Remembering the place he was at Hiro hoped it was magic.

"Hello?" Hiro called out as he began to step closer to the spring itself glancing around to locate his mysterious note giver, "Is anyone here?"

"Ah," she said aloud in a bit of an expecting tone, her voice coming from the other side of the partition, "I did not think you would actually come." She moved her feet around a bit, the sounds of a young female voice being heard along with the sounds of moving water. "Hiro Tsukasa, correct?" she asked, checking to see if she had the right person at least, "Step into the water, it is quite relaxing." She gave him a moment to slip into the water before speaking again, listening to the water move. "I have been reading quite a few 'magic' books and they seem to have something in common," she said, "That universal quality happens to be you, Mr. Tsukasa."

She slipped back into the water, the sudden chill of the air making the hot springs a good retreat. "The reason I invited you out here is because there are few things I would like to ask you," she said, her tone being quite dead but serious at the same time, "What is your knowledge on the connection of powers and genetics? I have been doing a bit of research on my own and have found valuable intelligence but there are components that I am missing." She moved around a bit more, the sound of the water moving towards the partition.

"The question is," she added, "How would a normal human go about acquiring these traits?" She placed her back against the partition, her voice sounding very close. "Surely it would seem like a dream to most humans," she added again, "Which is why I ask you, what is your take and knowledge on this subject?" After hearing this girl speak, her presence felt a bit ominous and her speech being some what calculating as she never uses a contraction.

"Right," Hiro mumbled softly as she urged him to enter the water. What the hell was she thinking!? This situation was only going to get worse and worse; he knew it. Still, perhaps through his own penchant for being a magnet towards pay docks Hiro consented with the request. Removing his robe and merely holding the towel he had been provided with Hiro entered the hot spring glancing towards the partition and the source of the voice. The voice was familiar. Hiro was sure he had heard it before, but immediately he could not place it.

"Me?" Hiro questioned as he listened on to the girl's voice. It seemed like she was wanting to know about the source of the various powers people had in Hyakuji. Rather, what underlying factors caused each person to have the powers they obtained rather than somebody else. It was a pretty heavy question coming out of the blue.

"Let's see," Hiro began as he thought for a moment, "Well, I'm certain some abilities have some sort of genetic quality to them. You look at some people and say they can control Fire... if you trace it back this ability was held by perhaps their parents or even their ancestors further back. My own family has a history in Magic on both my Mother and Father's side and I'm sure it explained a lot of my own success."

"Still," Hiro continued, "I'm not so sure it's that simple. For example, the Magic I use. Anyone could learn it regardless of their own abilities or what powers they might have. I took to it quickly and had a great aptitude towards it; likely due to my family. But with enough time and work anyone else could also learn to do the same things. Likewise, some of the martial artists at our school and the amazing things they can do... that was by the grace of their own practice and hard work; not something passed down through genetics. Of course it is a lot of work. For people not already interested from a young age or predisposed to it by some event or their history I'd wager it's likely too much work to bother with."

In the back of his mind, Hiro couldn't help but wonder why she wanted this information.

Valentine began to listen to what he was saying, relaxing in the water with her arms on the edge of the spring and facing the edge as well. "I see," she interjected as he spoke of his lineage, "So would you say that with generations, control over a power could become easier? Of course, the training in handling said powers would also constitute...the handling." She really didn't know how to word that sentence, still learning a bit of Earth language. She began to think a bit more, some silence growing as the ambiance of the springs filled the air.

"But what if a being came in contact with a genetic based power that they have never been exposed to before?" She asked him, "Basically, how would you go about administering a genetic based power to someone who would never have had those powers to begin with? I am sure that just introducing a power whose trait alters the genetic code could be deadly." She thought for a bit more, looking around as the silence grew once more.

She then turned around and sat back on the edge of the spring again, her legs in the water, "This may come as odd but what do you know about the human life cycle? I was going to read on it but other matters came up and were more important. I think I may have thought of something which may also help my research." she said, looking over at the partition.

"Maybe," Hiro spoke with an air of contemplation at Valentine's question, "Like I said before... both my parents were well accomplished with Magic and in each family line this traces back far into my ancestors. I... was never really able to gauge myself against them due to the accident and only learning Magic afterwards, but my Uncle always told me that I had learned and mastered things much faster than either of them. So there might be some truth to that. You'd probably need to do some detailed studies to really get a proper answer."

"Administering a genetic based power," Hiro repeated with thought as he let the girl finish. Within the water he shifted around some enjoying the warmth of the hot springs. Eventually, he came to a stop leaning his back against the partition resting gently. "Well," he continued, "You'd certainly have to be careful about that. I suppose with the right spell to smooth things over it could be possible. Or perhaps bypass genetics at all and just craft a powerful Enchantment to be cast on someone intended to last permanently. I'm afraid actual genetics are a bit out of my field... you'd want the Science Teacher..."

As he said this, Hiro couldn't help but let out a frustrated sigh. Genetics. Hiro knew exactly the perfect person to ask about something like that: Lillian Arion. However, that was the past. Shaking his head, Hiro sank down a bit into the water leaving his nose just slightly above being submerged as he tried to ignore the painful memories. He still hated that every now and again even a slight comment or phrase would spark such memories.

"Anyways," Hiro spoke up as he rose up a little and shook his head slowly dispelling the bad thoughts, "As for the human life cycle. Um... what's got you confused? People are born, grow up, eventually they grow old and die. It's the same for most creatures in general." Hiro couldn't help but tilt his head to the side in confusion. Why would someone ask a question like that?

"Still uh," Hiro continued, "Hey, I have to ask. You're obviously one of my students but who are you? The voice is familiar, but I can't place it. And why the hell are you asking me all these questions? And why here of all places!?"

"Magic is not real!" she said loudly, her tone quite clear, "I am tired of hearing all this junk about magic! I am sure this science teacher would have much more sense than you are making right now. Magic is nothing more than illusions, illusions to trick the mind into thinking it is real." She expressed her views quite harshly, her tone in a very serious tone and making no room to let others know that she was joking. She let the silence fill the room again, knowing that after that little bit, it'd be kind of difficult to speak.

After a few moments of silence, she began to speak again after hearing what he had to say about the human life cycle, "Then it is similar to our life cycle," she said in a bit softer tone, not too quiet where he couldn't here her, "And as for partners, are there three? Does it take three for the cycle to be successful?" She asked, wanting to know out of curiosity

Hiro then began to question her identity, Valentine not wanting to be discovered after reading so much about him and what he could do, "How do you know that I am a student?" she answered his first question with another, "All of these questions are necessary for my project and research." Valentine didn't want to give too much away on the subject either, Hiro being a bad person to let on about her project. "Why not this place? It is quite nice, is it not?" She said, being a bit coy with a false answer, the real reason being the partition and its privacy.

"Illusions?" Hiro questioned with a laugh as he splashed the water in the hot springs a little, "I promise you it's anything but illusions. Do you really think the school would authorize me to teach about stuff like that if it were all smoke and mirrors? They could get in a lot of trouble passing off some 'novelty' class as something real and important." However, inside Hiro couldn't help but cringe. It was almost the same words Lillian had first spoken to him all that time ago. Back then he had been brash and casted his second use of Exodus for no good reason just to prove the point. A point she teasingly never conceded on even up to the day she vanished.

"You know I could easily prove it," Hiro mentioned as the girl posed more questions while refusing to reveal her identity, "And first of all, it's a bad idea because IF you are a student it would look very bad for a teacher to be caught in the hot springs with a fellow student all alone like this!" It wouldn't take much at all. With a very simple mind reading spell he could fish out only her identity. However, Hiro had personal morals regarding the use of such Magic and thus tended to rarely make use of it nowadays unless backed against the wall.

"Partners? Successful?" Hiro questioned to the girl's primary question along the original discussion, "I'm not sure what you're trying to ask. It's a bit vague... do you mean like reproduction? That's between a man and a woman."

"B-But that's certainly not something you should be asking from me!" Hiro exclaimed quickly, "That should go to the Health Teacher!" Even though the girl presented the possibility that she might not be a student, Hiro couldn't help but suspect that she was. The voice was too familiar and he primarily knew people in the city through the school itself.

Vales ears perked up when Hiro said that he could prove it, a perfect opportunity for her to debunk it, "I will hold you up to proving it," she said with her serious tone, "But now is not the time for tricks and illusions." Valentine listened to him some more, Hiro calling out their little meeting as something that could get him in trouble, "You have nothing to fear from me," she said, making circles with her feet in the water, "I do not think 'robbing the cradle', if that is the right idiom for it, would be on my list of things to do at the moment. After all, you are human also, something I cannot approve of."

She continued to move her feet around in the water, looking down and into the water, "So, you only have a two way reproduction?" she said, a bit confused and thinking on it, "So...what about a host?...I guess I do need to go do a bit more research then." Valentine was baffled by this, having only two people for the cycle was unheard of with her own species. "Only two? Not three?" she said a bit lower again, her voice still audible to Hiro as she thought aloud.

"Anyways," she said, trying to change the subject, "Your information was quite helpful and...I guess I enjoyed your company, even though you are a human. Now, I would like to ask a favor. If you would be so kind as to count to one hundred in one second increments, then you will satisfy me by doing so." Valentine was already sneaking out of the water, slowly pulling her feet out as she was speaking to him. She would use this time to hurry and get dressed before he hand a chance to meet her out of the springs.

"Robbing the cradle?" Hiro questioned, "But... wait... host? What in the world are you talking about?!" Hiro seemed utterly confused. Was this girl non-human then? That might explain all the questioning she was making and likewise some of the odd statements she made. However, if she wasn't a human then what exactly? Hiro knew from time to time the school had admitted supernatural beings or even demons into the school, but it would be harder to pin down than that.

"Count to one hundred?" Hiro repeated still confused as it suddenly clicked in his mind, "WAIT!" Without wasting a moment, Hiro mumbled the few words to cast the mind reading spell and slowly reached out with his own mind and through the partition towards where he had last heard her voice only to find... nothing? The girl was already gone. She must have been moving even as she was speaking to him at the end. The mystery of the situation and the heated nature of the hot springs had dulled his awareness.

With a splash, Hiro quickly rose to his feet rushing to the side of the spring and climbing out. Just as he exited the entrance area to the hot spring Hiro manged to finish pulling together the robe the worker had provided him when he entered. Moving swiftly, Hiro pushed past several other patrons as he kept his eyes peeled for anyone that seemed like they might match the voice he'd been speaking to.

Exasperated, Hiro reached the front desk once more and with a sigh approached the woman working there. "Pardon me," Hiro began shaking his head slowly, "Did someone just rush through here? Maybe a younger woman... perhaps a student at the high school?"

"Eh what?" she questioned back finding what he was asking a bit odd, "Nobody has exited from any of the hot springs out to here since before you entered. Are you already finished Mr. Tsukasa? And what's this about one of your students?"

"Sorry," Hiro admitted shaking his head slowly and walking away as he made his way to change out of the hot spring's robe and back into his regular clothes, "It must have just been my imagination playing tricks of me due to all the heat." While the front desk worker nodded in consent, Hiro couldn't help but wonder what was really going on. He had stumbled on a mystery. A mystery that Hiro Tsukasa was quite certain would be far from over. Who was the unknown girl and what was the true purpose behind her questions?

Only time would tell...
