The Wolf

Early morning in Hyakuji, when the sky is just starting to brighten with the coming dawn and even the birds have yet to awaken from their night's slumber. On this particular morning, before the sun's radiance illuminated the sleeping city, a fog drifted down from the mountains around Hyakuji came to rest in the streets of the silent metropolis. To normal people, the mist would appear completely natural, for it was. But any who could control the ebb and flow of nature's energy would know, this murk had been called to the city by an Elemancer of startling power. As the mist settled, two figures moved silently through the empty streets of the slumbering neighborhoods, one human, the other shaped like a dog, but who's head came to the man's chest. As they moved the mist seemed to cling to them, as though to hide them from unwelcome gazes. The two continued to walk till they stood before the looming spire of the Water and Ice Tower. It was there that the mist parted, revealing none other that Kazuma Tadayoshi, former Hyakuji High student and member of the Elemancer Club, and a huge white wolf, who's eyes help intelligence far beyond that of any normal canine. Kazuma stared up at the doors before him, remembering the days he had spent here, training to control his power. Now, garbed in a worn grey cloak and robes he had gathered on his journey to the Multiverse, he reflected on how much he had changed. He was taller now, and was broader in his shoulders, though still slender. His face was more refined, with an adults weight in his heterochromatic eyes. His hair was no longer the raven shade he had been born with, but pure white; a result of his possession in his final year at the school. And not only that, but after years of training, and the use of powerful artifacts, he had finally mastered his power. But more than that, he had grown as a person. Having come into such direct contact with a being who viewed all humans as nothing but pawns, he had realized what he himself could have become. With his resentment toward humanity gone, he had finally been able to leave Hyakuji, never to return. Or so he had thought, but no sooner had he finished his training then he heard rumors (rumors of rumors, truth be told) of something strange going on in his old home. Gripped by a sense of dread, Kazuma had returned to find that a new crisis had gripped the school, though he hadn't been able to learn much about the details. And so he had come here, to the center of power for Elemancers, in order to get answers. Slowly climbing the steps, he placed a hand on the doors and flung them open, causing a few students in the main hall to jump as they banged against the walls. He knew that the Aeons would sense his arrival, and guessed that they would go to the head instructor with the news. And so Kazuma strode through the building to stand in the middle of the entrance hall, waiting, knowing that it would not be long before Kaede Akita came to confront him. |

It didn't even take any of the Aeons to report to Kaede, before she feels an intruder has came into the water and ice tower. Why, during this early in the morning, and during her zen sessions, her senses are heightened to the point where even one bit of droplet of mist sliding from the leaf to the muddy floor in the earth tower can be sensed. While she is the aquamancer instructor, her skill in sensing is much, much more supreme than her manipulation of the water element. This has, of course, something to do with her Kyuudo practice and her long-honed practice of using her sensory system instead of her eyes, especially in battles. Therefore, when a friend of Chizu came into the zen room telling the aquamancer that there is something intruding the elemancer tower, she was not surprised at all. After all, no water particles would stay constant and undisturbed, if there is so much disturbance in the flow of atmosphere. All she did, was merely waited, until the person finally came into the water tower. She stands up, her glasses off, her kyuudo uniform on, and her yotsugaku still on her right hand. Her eyes open up, and she slowly steps out of the zen meditation ground. Instead of sliding down the waterfall like she usually does, the girl merely take the side stairs, coming down from the second floor. She could read and remember this vibe. "Welcome back, Kazuma kun," The girl says with a smile on her face while still coming down the stairs, "It would seem that you are rather restless, however. Is there something wrong?" |

Kazuma smiled slightly as he watched Kaede descend the stairs. This show of genuine expression, while seemingly small, would be quite shocking to anyone who knew what he had been like before his graduation. Back then he had never really smiled. Oh, he had pretended to, but his eyes had been never changing chips of frozen glass, ever filled with contempt and hatred for a world that had rejected him. Now, his eyes were calm, for at long last his seething emotions had settled, leaving a calm that most aquamancers seemed to possess, but which had always eluded him. As Kaede reached the foot of the stairs, Kazuma bowed in traditional japanese style, saying, "Kaede-shisho, it is a pleasure to see you again. I hope you have been well since our last encounter." He thought back to that time, thinking of how cheeky he had been, and smiled ruefully. "And you are indeed correct. There is something I would like to discuss with you. In private, if at all possible," he said, glancing at his canine companion, whi's eyes were fixed on Kaede. |

Shi-Shisho.... Kaede's stance faltered a little bit, and her face grows a little red from the younger aquamancer's comment about being his mentor. After all, Kaede has never recognized herself to be a teacher, but more of a "sempai" if anything. "You are exaggerating..." The girl tries to smile more normally, and meekly says. After all, it is rather, well, yeah, embarrassing to have someone call her a teacher when she doesn't regard herself as such. Though, it still delights Kaede to catch a glimpse of a smile on Kazuma's face on her way down. It seems that he is smiling. While Kaede is not really involved enough at school to see Kazuma in class and extracarricular activities, she did remember that whenever Kazuma is in the water tower, and decides to smile, there has always been an soft, thin layer of ice over it- an unreachable layer of mask. It would seem that, after all, Kazuma had something more important to talk about than just coming here to the water tower to discuss or train, however. Upon recognizing that, Kaede switches completely back to the serious mode that she usually is in when she views something to be important. "Well, then, would you like to come to my office?" The girl says, putting her glasses back on, and leads the way to the office. "Tea, coffee, or water?" After arriving at the instructor office, the girl offers. What Kazuma would notice, too, is that the main working desk that Kaede uses is, while normally covered by assignments and tests that needs to be graded, now covered with ancient scrolls, heavy textbooks, and old books that talks about spiritualism, Shintoism, elemental power, and everything of that sort. It seems that Kaede has something that she is worrying about, too. |

"Tea, please. Earl Grey if you have it," He said, taking a seat in a chair before the desk. "I've been traveling non stop since I got wind of what was happening here. To be honest, I'm still short on details, but that can wait. First I'd like to ask for your help determining how far my powers have come. I've grown a lot since I left, but..." At this the wolf next to him arched an eyebrow, then let out a bark of laughter. The sound was rich and powerful, but held a note of derision. Then the beast spoke, it's voice deep and tinged with an unusual accent, "Ha, grown. You still can't even cast half the spells I could at your age. Really, without my Dengen Tebukuro you wouldn't even be alive right now." Kazuma sighed, "Yes, well, if I hadn't found your gauntlets, you probably would still be stuck in that cave, muttering to yourself," he said, exasperated. He paused and glanced at Kaede, then shrugged, saying, "Well, guess that needs some explaining. Kaede, allow me to introduce you to Essch. He's the one that possessed me during my last year here." The wolf scowled, "I told you before, I was completely mad at the time. Didn't regain my senses till you shoved me into this mutt's body. Though I suppose I had it coming, after trying to destroy this school and all," Essch said, his scowl turning into a resigned grimace. He turned his head to look at Kaede, golden eyes taking in every detail. "So, your the one that taught this runt, eh. No, I suppose it would be better to say you 'helped' him from time to time. Well, you seem to possess more control over your abilities than he does, though I think he may have you beat in terms of raw power," he said, laying down and closing his eyes. Kazuma glared at the wolf, then looked apologetically at Kaede. "Sorry about that. He doesn't mean anything by it, it's just that he doesn't like beating around the bush. Being trapped in a cave for a millennia seems to have made him short tempered." The wolf hrumphed, but said nothing. |

"Unfortunately, I don't have the really nice Earl Grey here, so would you do with this?" The girl brings out a total of two pots, one with an Earl Grey tea bag within, and another with her usual Green Tea bag within. While she has a variety of tea here, not a lot of them are really high class, given that, well, she is still a college student after all. It is already really nice for her to actually provide about 7 to 10 kinds of tea. … Speaking of which, one of them is a Rose tea blend from Tsubame. Is that going to be alright? Regardless. Kaede takes a light sip from her own tea cup, and listens to the two individuals - one human and one wolf- converse between each other. From their conversation, there is a few points that Kaede could collect. One, Kazuma has left for a while from town. Two, the gauntlet that she was shown has some ties to the wolf, and now the wolf somehow services Kazuma. Three, Kazuma was possessed at some point in time. Four, Kazuma's utilization of his aquamancy is based around spells. And five, this wolf is a rather prideful being. Sure reminded Kaede about her last meeting with Kazuma, yes. "… A-haha…." Kaede to laugh a little bit, forcibly. After all, being told by someone that a student of the elemancer tower is more powerful than the instructor outright is rather, well, blunt. If given any other instructor, they'd probably have flipped already. Thank goodness that Kaede has never really thought about herself as a teacher in this elemancer tower. "Well, you could be correct, Essch-san," The girl looks at the wolf, with the usual gentle smile on her face. "Indeed, I borrow my power from the nature, and to me, my power is probably more of a flow control than a cannoner blast, if that makes sense at all." "However, Kazuma-kun, before we talk about what's going on in the elemancer tower, I'd like to inquire more about what happened to you personally. Will it be inappropriate for me to ask?" Her eyes now turn a little more stern, the girl asks. After all, it has been quite a while since she actually see Kazuma in the tower, and she is indeed curious about what has happened. After all, the personality change is so great, that it is almost… odd. |
