Gail remembered perfectly how to get to the Double UDA building. She had been here only once before, but she could easily memorize directions. It wasn't something complicated like 'love'. It was just a list of ways to go and for how long. Of course, because she memorized the directions and not the location itself, she had to begin from he same point as she did when she came here for the party - otherwise the directions weren't valid. Since Seth had taken her here from a restaurant on that day, she had walked across town to reach that restaurant, and then retraced the path to the building. It was about 4:00 PM. School had recently let out, and she had decided to come here straight away, since she didn't have any plans with Seth today. There was someone here that she wanted to meet - someone she had accepted as her adviser in her quest for 'love'. She didn't call out as she entered. She merely walked in silently - more silently than most people, in fact. She only briefly noted the irony of a criminal coming to a detective agency for aid. Of course, as far as she knew, Hong Kong law enforcement still had no idea that she had left the country years ago. She slowly scanned the room, looking for Oliver. If he wasn't in the lobby, she would have to systematically search every room in the building until she found him. |

"Ehhh..?" Oliver said as he looked up from his desk, kicking his feet off the table as he rose to his feet. "Gail?" He said glancing her over. She looked the same as ever, another unfashionable girl. This one reminded him of Chetri which made him both like her and hate her simultaneously. Such was the complex nature of his feelings for that girl. Not that this really mattered for the moment. What mattered was why she was here. He poured himself a cup of coffee, heading over from the desks to the couch and sitting down. "Help yourself to coffee if you like it." He said leaning back, throwing his arms out. "Let's see.. why are you here..?" He flashed a grin. "Finally tire of Seth and come to me for a romantic rendezvous? Sadly I must decline. I'd never steal a friend's girl. Not out of nobility or anything like that, it's just messy. Never a shortage of girls, always a shortage of friends." He said rambling a bit before stopping. "Kidding of course." He wasn't but whatever. "So why did you come?" |

"Hello, Oliver." Gail's perpetually quiet and monotone voice greeted the person she had come to see. Fortunately, he had been in the first room she entered, eliminating the need for a search of the building. She had never had coffee before, so she decided to try some. Of course, she didn't know that you were supposed to put sugar or cream in it. She took one sip and then set it back down on the table, where it would probably remain for the rest of her stay here. New Food number 296; designation 'coffee'. Result: abominable. She turned to look directly at Oliver as she spoke. "I want to talk about Seth." She said, with no uncertainty or hesitation. "I followed all of the advice you had given me when we last met. Every requirement was fulfilled. But when I asked him, I was still denied." The last time they had met had been the Christmas party - the time when she had met Hana. "I don't understand what I did wrong." |

Oliver choked a bit trying to keep himself from spitting coffee everywhere. She.. she really didn't take it easy on him when broaching subjects.. After coughing and choking down his coffee he sighed heavily and set down his cup. He rose up and moved into the kitchen getting several containers and coming back into the room and setting them all down. Well she got right into the issue so he wasn't going to beat around the bush either. "I thought you were like Chetri but you really aren't. You know what you want and you go for it. I respect that." A little sugar, soem hazelnut flavoring, a but of pumpkin spice, and a quick stir of creamer into her coffee and he slid it back to her. "Bitter, strong, unappealing. The coffee you tasted before wasn't good, right? But coffee gives you energy and helps keep you alert. Coffee might be just what you need and by dressing it up a bit it turns into something amazing. That's you, whatever happened in your life until now leaves you without the things you need to catch attention!" He leaned back in his chair. "Seth likes you... He already likes you. Changing yourself isn't going to make him like you because he likes the current you. BUT a few clothes? A little bit with your hair, and a situation that forces you two to be alone, and he might begin to see you as a woman..." "HOWEVER." He took out a soda. "Sweet, delicious, but bad for you. If this is here most will go for it first, right? This is Youma. We need to dress you up, and block her from arriving. That's my thoughts on it." Edited by Cypriss, Mar 2 2012, 08:30 PM.

"I do not understand. How did Youma become a soda bottle?" She poked the bottle gingerly, as though testing it. "Is she trapped inside?" She couldn't see a soul within the bottle, but if it was possible for someone to become a soda bottle, it was probably also possible for them to mask their presence somehow. She hadn't heard of something like this happening before, so she was understandably surprised, although her face remained as stoic as ever. She took a slow, second sip of the coffee, noting that Oliver had altered it in some way. It definitely tasted better now than it did before. New Food number 297; designation 'improved coffee'. Result: improved. She took a third sip before setting it back down on the table, next to 'Youma'. Perhaps in the form of a soda bottle, she would enjoy the company of a fellow beverage. |

"No.... she.. she isn't... that.. that was a metaphor.. The soda.. represents her.." Woah... this girl was incredibly dense. He'd always seen her as a serious minded individual but.. instead she was surprisingly dumb. ..well then... He coughed a bit. "Just forget the soda and focus. Like I was saying. The point is that you need a chance to show off your feminine traits without Youma showing up and getting in the way!" It really was all the way back to basics with this girl. He'd have to keep his plan simple so as to not strain her tiny brain. Dumb girls were great though! Lucky break for Seth, the smart ones were the dangerous one. Always scheming or plotting or manipulating and they also liked to shove their brains in your face. So he didn't see this as a negative beyond the fact that it might make talking to her a bit difficult at times, like in the situation of this metaphor. But he'd just keep it simple! "You should invite Seth to go somewhere with just you, some alone time. If you come here before that time I'll make sure your appearance shocks him.. Not like.. electrical shock but surprising shock. I'll make sure you surprise him." He said trying to be as simple as possible. "Anyhow, invite him somewhere where you two can be alone... Maybe to watch a movie at your dorm? Or on a picnic? I dunno, you decide! And I'LL distract Youma!" Alone, together. No Youma to interfere... this would be good!! |

Gail nodded, seeming to understand. "I see. So, all of the requirements were fulfilled, as I thought, but it was my approach that was incorrect." She nodded to herself again, as though telling herself 'yeah, that's right'. She trusted Oliver - she was willing to go along with his plan if it meant getting a chance to understand more about her relationship with Seth. "Okay. I'll come see you tomorrow morning. Afterwards, I'll take Seth somewhere..." She thought for a moment, wondering what destination would be suitable. Anywhere that they were alone together would work. The mall had other people...Tsukasa's cafe had other people...perhaps an abandoned warehouse? A closet might also do, although space would be an issue. She didn't really understand what 'feminine traits' were, but as long as Oliver was handling it, she didn't need to worry about it. Her appearance would be taken care of. All she had to do was take action. She took another sip of the improved coffee as she began to form her plan. "I have one other question." Gail asked, in the same listless tone of voice. "Who is Chetri?" |

"She's a girl that works here. A real pain in the ass. Not like she literally hurts my ass, but she's annoying and gets on my nerves." He said, making sure to be extra literal so she couldn't make any mistakes. Well he doubted ANYONE could get that wrong but then the soda thing was pretty amazing in it's own way. Anything was possible after that. "She works and lives here. She's also someone I care about." He said idly. "She's also someone I dislike strongly, if you can comprehend such a complicated relationship." He said with a mysterious grin as he though to himself. He leaned foward. "However, I'm not dating anyone. So if you want to break it off with Seth and give me a try I'd be game for that." He said cheerfully before slapping his head. "Ah right, you're off limits! I keep forgetting.. Well if he doesn't make a move soon I might ignore it." He was now practically talking to himself. He glanced to her and snapped back to attention. He'd clearly forgotten she was there for just a second. "Anyhow Chetri is a girl that works here. Quiet, calm, focused, a little naive. You and her are a lot alike." |

Gail nodded in understanding, although it wasn't completely clear. The essence of Oliver's response seemed to be that she was someone he cared about, but not someone he loved. And then, Oliver smacked himself in the head...she had seen many people do that, but she had absolutely no idea why. At first, she had written it off as masochistic tendencies, but many people she meets are constantly smacking themselves in the head while talking to her. It seems to have some form of cultural significance that she cannot grasp. Then, she's someone who is like me...? Gail wondered, trying to imagine Chetri in her mind based on Oliver's words. It was impossible, of course, since he hadn't given a physical description of her. But it was helpful to her as well. She had never had to describe herself to someone before, so she wouldn't have known how to. But if she had a list of qualities she could ascribe to someone who was 'a lot like her', then she could give those qualities as a description of herself if asked, and they would probably be mostly accurate. "Then, all that remains is to think of a place." Gail said out loud. Oliver had said that the decision was hers. But making decisions wasn't something that she was good at. After all, she hadn't made a single decision of her own for the first 14 years of her life. Although she had been living independently for 2 years, thinking for herself wasn't something that came naturally. She was used to being ordered around, told exactly where to go and what to do. Well, she had time. It wasn't even 5 PM yet. She could sit and do nothing besides think for each hour until her bedtime - and since she didn't really sleep along with her body, she could think all night as well. She would think for 24 consecutive hours until she reached a decision. "Is there anything else I should know or do?" Gail hadn't taken her eyes off of Oliver for the entire conversation - she stared straight ahead at the person she was talking to, for as long as they talked. She had only ever moved her head to look at the coffee and the soda bottle. |

[it would help if you'd im me or pm me when you post, this thread keeps getting swept away before I notice you've replied] She seemed interested in learning about Chetri for reasons that mystified Oliver. Then again birds of a feather flock together, so those two might really be great friends someday. They already had a lot of weirdness in common. If Gail were any good with guns or killing people Oliver might even think they were sisters separated at birth. But nah, that was silly. As if Gail were good at killing! What were the odds of that! So ridiculous. So ridiculous! "Well the place should be simple. Invite him to your dorm room when everyone else is out. You can even arrange to meet him here if you need to. Or to the hot springs if you want to be really aggressive.." He said stroking his chin. "The pool is good too... Well that's using your body to attack. You might not be okay with that." He glanced to her and shrugged. "I'm sure you'll figure something out." "As for other tips.." He didn't want to say something wrong here and send her down the wrong track. So he needed to keep his advice simple and direct. "Touching is good. A little skin to skin contact. If you can hold his hand at some point you can really awaken the animal instincts inside him! Even Seth has them... The desires of being a man." He said nodding sagely. "Hurm..... Other than that I think being yourself is fine. I don't think you should rush things. If you could get a kiss it might seal the deal but the mood would have to be right. For now we just need to raise his affection level for you." He really wondered if it would be okay, but Gail had already made it to the top of Seth's list without Oliver helping, a little nudge might be all they need. Besides, if she were overly forward Seth would catch on which was absolutely no good. |

"Using my body to attack...?" Gail responded with a tilted head. "Am I attacking Seth physically...?" She was confused for multiple reasons. First of all, she didn't want to hurt Seth...Oliver seemed to be saying that touching him was good, but he alternated between suggesting benign physical contact and using words like 'aggressive' and 'attack'. She wasn't sure what he wanted her to do. "I remember you mentioned touching previously. You said that people who love each other should want to touch each other." She recounted, remembering the last time they met. "I've held Seth's hand before, but I am not sure if something specific was supposed to happen." It hadn't felt bad at all. His hand had been nice and warm. But as far as 'animal instincts', there had been nothing that she could perceive. |

Wow.. she really was clueless. Even simple phrases like this managed to baffle her? Perhaps she was home schooled. Without any exposure to slang or phrases she lacked the tools to comprehend them? Either way it certainly made things difficult. "No, not that sort of attack. If you think of love as a battle then whenever you you make a step forward or force the relationship then that's an 'attack'. Being 'aggressive' is when you are pushing things ahead. These are metaphors, i don't mean them literally." "mmmm.... holding his hand will establish a physical connection between you two. It's symbolic. When he has your hand it means there's literally no distance between you, no 'wall'. So it's the first step towards a relationship." He said trying to clarify it. |

"Then...if 'love' is a process...completing a step of that process is an 'attack'?" She asks, as listlessly as always. It was an odd choice of words. Even she knew that love and murder were basically opposites of each other. At the same time, though, thinking of it in terms of a battle made it seem more familiar, even if it was more perplexing at the same time. Metaphors are confusing. "Then, holding hands is the first step in the process..." Gail thought to herself, "If I wish to advance further...I must 'attack'..." She looked like she was thinking intently, as though she were staring at a difficult math problem. She was still trying to understand the underlying principles...But Oliver had said that 'being herself' was fine, as far as procedure. The only difference was that they had to be alone together and holding hands. It didn't sound difficult, objectively, but she didn't know what unforeseen complications would arrive. "What time should we meet, tomorrow morning?" She asked quickly, deciding that she understood enough of the situation. "I will arrive at the specified time." |

That was certainly a very practical question. She was good in some ways, but not good in others. Her common sense was lacking but her mindset suited his. She was like a field operative, always obsessed with specifics, never on the broader picture. "Arrange to meet near noon, but you should arrive at 12:10. Make sure you arrive separately too. It might be more efficient to leave the dorms together but if you both show up in town separately it will feel more date-like. I'll be arranging your clothes and make-up. That will be our first attack. " "Then the showing up late is the second attack. Keeping him waiting will build anticipation... Then you show up in your clothes and it suddenly feels like a date. Then you go for his hand, and that seals it. It will be a date-like atmosphere. From there we'll see if things advance our way..." He handed her a small ear bud. "Would you like me on standby to give advice?" He said curiously, a small grin forming. This might be interesting. He could help her out a bit like a commander on a field mission directing an operative. |

Gail went over Oliver's plan of 'attack' in her mind. She had always shown up exactly on time when meeting with Seth previously. She never would have considered being late as an effective tactic...she didn't really understand why it worked, but she would trust Oliver and do as he said. She took the ear bud from his hands, turning it over in her own. She had used one of these before, on an infiltration mission, where her client was relaying information to her as she sneaked through. "Advice in real-time would be helpful." Being familiar with its use, she put it inside her right ear, hiding it behind her hair. "Do Seth and I still count as being 'alone' if I have this?" |
