Heaving up a surprisingly heavy weekend bag on her shoulder Emiko grunted a little, wondering what on earth she had packed for only two days and one night that was so heavy. She was standing by the train station, waiting for Deus to come back from the ticket office so that they could get seated. It was very early morning and Emi suppressed a yawn as she looked towards the building, waiting for him to emerge.

The duo had won tickets to Tokyo with everything included earlier this winter. The contest itself had been quite dramatic, ending up with a fractured rib and mild concussion on Emiko’s part. However, everything was healed now thanks to Nurse Hinata and the cut she had gotten on her cheek hadn’t even left a mark.

It was safe to say that they’ve had it a little rocky lately, and not only because of the accident, but Emiko was glad that they were going to do something fun now. She had never been to Tokyo before and was really looking forward to it.

Deus yawned loudly as he got onto the train, he felt exhausted and things had only just begun. Still, a trip to Tokyo did sound nice. A break from school and from the usual routine and a chance to see a place he'd not been to yet. Even in his younger years his families travels had never taken him here. Everytime they visited Japan it was Hokkaido to visit his mom's family.

As such he was almost... excited? Though it was impossible to tell as much from his sleepy yawn and fatigued expression. It was obvious he was already gearing up for a long nap all the way there. However, before that could start...

He paused, looking around before spotting her. She was in another of her very functional outfits, just like the sweater and sweatpants. If there was one thing Emiko Nakahara didn't care about it was fashion. Then again that's probably why a touch of makeup and a few well chosen clothes had so much impact for her. When she lowered the bar of expectations and improvement was amazing.

Well he wouldn't say that out loud, even he had limits. He approached her from behind, leaning in over her shoulder and whispering "Yo~" in her ear, to both startle her and make her embarrassed. He reached out wrapping his arms around her hugging her tight. "Our first lovey dovey vacation~ We're like newlyweds." He said before laughing and releasing her.

He placed his hands on his sides cocking a grin. "Well I guess it's more like an niece and her chaperon, right? I don't think anyone would believe we're a couple.." Especially not with her in such plain clothes...

“Eek!” Emiko let out as she felt a warm breath against her neck and heard Deus’ soft whisper in her ear. Her whole body went rigid as he then wrapped his arms around her from behind, hugging her tight. Emi stood completely still, every muscle tense and her eyes wide in trepidation, expecting more of his teasing. Thankfully he let her go instead and Emiko could finally let out the breath she had been holding.

"Well I guess it's more like an niece and her chaperon, right? I don't think anyone would believe we're a couple.."

With a huff Emiko crossed her arms over her chest and replied, sounding very flustered and still blushing from his surprise attack, “Hah! Of course not! B-because you are a-a... baka terrorist! And you would just sleep all the time!” Making no sense the girl turned her back to him and put her bag away before taking her seat. Pouting slightly Emi couldn’t help but wonder if it really was that hard to think of them as a couple. The thought made her feel a little sad and so she quickly shook it off and put a smile on her face, and tried to regain some dignity after her somewhat weird outburst.

“Baka. Don’t think that I don’t know you are doing all of that on purpose. One day I’ll find your weakness and get my revenge,” Emiko suddenly laughed, “until then; mango juice?” She opened her handbag and got out two juice boxes and tossed one to Deus.

"Thanks~" He said as he popped in the straw and began drinking it, flopping down in his seat before yawning loudly. This was the life, sitting on his butt for hours with nothing to do but sleep. He could get used to something like that, too bad there wasn't a job like that in the world or else he'd change career paths in an instant. Oh well, at least he got to have a nice day like this for free..

"I don't have any weaknesses.." He said quickly as he glanced to her. "Actually.. I'm pretty weak to mango juice, give me a bunch of them and I'll admit defeat freely!" He said eagerly. Well that much was true, something like pride wasn't even in his vocabulary. While he thought himself to be clearly and provably superior to most he rarely felt like he needed to prove that. To him it was a matter of fact and those whom didn't see it were just idiots beyond help.

Well, that's neither here nor there, the point is that he'd admit defeat if it got him something, maybe not to the extent of bowing his head, but pretty close. The only reason he wouldn't bow his head too was because it was one of his Deus Rules. Anyhow he stretched out once more before folding his arms over his chest. and tucking his head down ready to go straight to sleep.

"Oi, Nakahara." He said motioning for her to come over. "I need a pillow."

“W-what?” Emiko blurted, staring at him like he was mad. “N-no way!” the girl protested and crossed her arms over her chest, lifted her nose and turned to face the window. She held that position for a little while, looking quite determined, but her gaze slowly drifted to the side and towards Deus who was trying to get comfortable. Emiko knew that he’d fall asleep pretty quickly even without her lap as a pillow. Hell, if he could fall asleep up in a tree then a cushioned seat was no problem, but still…

Throwing up her arms in defeat Emiko sighed loudly, “Fiiiiiine, I’ll do it.” She sounded a lot more reluctant than she actually was and to be honest, she wasn’t reluctant at all. Emiko had caved in despite trying to keep her feelings for Deus on a tight leash. This was simply far to tempting to say no to. She has never worked as his ‘pillow’ before, and it kind of felt… Intimate? she thought to herself. Like something a girlfriend did for their boyfriend. And even if it was just one stolen moment of pretend Emiko wanted to try it.

Bringing over her handbag with her and placing it on the floor between her feet, Emi nudged Deus a little so that he would move and she could take a seat. Sitting down the girl turned her face away from him, a small angry blush on her face, and she mumbled, “Sleep well. And when you wake up I got bento-boxes with me for an early lunch.”

He yawned a bit, leaning over onto her shoulder, resting his head there, leaning back against her, his breath slowing and becoming more even, it really was amazing every time to see how fast he could fall asleep. He was the world's only genius at sleeping, if such a thing even made sense.

~~~
Deus yawned loudly as he wandered down the hallway back to their seat. People were moving a bit more freely now that things were well under way. Luckily the two of them were practically off by themselves in a cabin thanks to the prize. Deus had already slept for quite a while, and eaten after that. This trip was actually going quite smoothly. He sat down beside her and opened up his laptop, queuing up the movie to continue playing.
He held out an earbud for her to share with him before hitting the play button, setting it back into the events of the film. Deus inched in closer to her, throwing his arm around her shoulder, since it was more comfortable, and drawing her closer to him. He turned the volume up a bit drowning everything out around them...
Even an announcement.
He glanced away from the monitor to her, "Did you hear what they sai-"
too late, the train took a sharp turn, sending the unprepared boy over. He fell down onto the bed cushion for their small cot. He planted his arms on either side over her, face buried in her neck. He shook his head a bit as he lifted himself up, hands on either side of her.
He glanced down at her, sprawled out across the bed with him over her, isolated from the rest, the roar of the train around them... it was.. somewhat lewd right? Even he couldn't ignore it. His chest tightened a bit as he glanced down at her.
Emiko sat perfectly still, her eyes staring at the laptop screen without really focusing and paying attention to what was happening. Well, who could blame her, her best friend and unrequited love had just put his arm around her. Leaning in against Deus to not keep the earphones taut, Emiko did her best to ‘play it cool’, so to speak, and she was doing quite a good job after the first initial shock had passed. She understood why Deus had put his arm around her shoulders, it had been uncomfortable having their shoulder pressed together, but still, her heart was thumping with joyful expectation.
“Hm?” She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, reaching for the earpiece to take it out so that she could hear him better, however things took a slightly different turn, literary.
Emiko was lying on her back staring straight up at the ceiling, too startled and surprised to be aware of Deus’ weight on her and his face nuzzling her neck. Well, that was before supported himself on his arms, lifted himself up and stared down at her.
She was looking straight back at him, her lips slightly parted in a surprised expression and her violet eyes glowing in the shadow he cast over her. Emiko’s heart was beating so hard, it felt almost like her body shook with each beat and she was holding her breath in anticipation. It was like they were in a bubble where everything stood completely still; it was just the two of them and no one else in the world. Her skin was prickling and tingling from this tension, or more like static electricity, that was sparkling and crackling between then, and Emi couldn’t help but wonder if Deus felt the same.
Deus leaned over her hands tightening into the fabric of the seat cushion. He leaned in towards her slowly without breaking eye contact. He tilted his head for a moment, pausing as he looked down at her. He reached over to her head with one hand interlacing his fingers into her hair. His lips felt dry. They felt dry, he felt them. He noticed them more than he ever had.
He noticed hers too.
Hey eyes, her lips, her hair. He noticed everything. He closed his eyes.
“Why would I fall in love with you? We are not compatible emotionally nor socially."
He reached out to her forehead, pinching it. "Got it." He said looking away from her and holding his thumb out to her. "A rice." He said with a grin. "you've had it on your head this whole time, i couldn't find it thought because you're so pale!" He said before standing up and planting his hands on his sides. Of course it was a lie, he'd just happened to find one on the seat next to her. "Hahahah! You were staring so intently!" He turned putting on a cool distant expression. "Did your heart flutter for a moment~?" He said before stepping out to head for the bathroom.
As soon as he was outside he leaned against the wall, his cheeks flush with color as he held his hand over his face. "W..what the hell was that?!" He said as he leaned there before sliding down the wall and placing both his hands behind his head. "What... the hell... was that..?"
He clenched his eyes trying to calm himself somewhat...
Exhaling very shakily the moment Deus closed the door behind him Emiko was left lying on her back, still not having regained enough composure to do more than stare straight up. She felt so confused. Her mind was whirling and her heart was beating wildly in her chest, threatening to explode or perhaps simply flat out. What had just happened? What was going on?
It took several minutes before she finally moved, slowly sitting up in the seat, lifting an unsteady hand to her forehead, touching the spot Deus had earlier. “A… rice grain…?” Was it really true? She swallowed hard and squeezed her eyes tightly closed, moving both hands to her face to hide it from the rest of the world.
“I thought that you saw me,” Emiko whispered, aiming her words at Deus, “Not just as a friend, but saw the whole me. Everything that I am. Everything that I feel.” Had she just fooled herself? Imagining seeing what her heart wished for so desperately and then distorting what was reality? She sighed heavily, dropping her hands to her lap and stared at them with a sad and lonely expression. “Huh?” she stared at her hand and a wet droplet that had just fallen on it quickly followed by another one, and then another one. Touching her cheek with a shaky hand Emiko could feel that it was wet. Was she crying? She looked at her fingertips in surprise. “Why? Why am I crying?” She wasn’t in pain and she wasn’t sad. But still, there was something she felt that was almost worse.
For a brief moment there she had really thought something shifted between the two of them, but she had been silly and that left her now vulnerable and weak, defenseless against her own emotions despite that this was what she had prepared herself for; being friends and not letting him know. And maybe that was why she was crying? They has stared into each other’s eyes, been closer than ever, she had felt something magnetic and unresistable between them pulling them together, and he had even leaned in a little! And yet; nothing.
It had made her realize something important.
“Am I... losing faith?" If a situation like that couldn’t make him see her in a different light then she couldn't either, even if she wanted to and even if she tried. Emiko hadn't realized it before, but she had always hoped that Deus would experience the same change in feelings that would ultimately bring them together. But now she wasn't so sure it would ever happen.
The rest of the ride was pretty awkward..
...for Emiko, Deus was asleep.
Either way...
~~~~

Deus yawned loudly as he stretched wandering off the train. He felt a lot better after having slept. Clearly all that before was just him being sleep deprived! He sure had been acting strange, though. Even he found it hard to go back to normal after this incident and so he kept mostly to himself, tucking his hands deep into his pockets as they cleared the train depot and entered into the city..

It was.. amazing. This city was beyond his expectations. "Woah... look how big it is." He said as he stared up at the sky, or lack thereof. This whole place was incredible. "So what first..? Some shopping?" He said glancing to her with a small grin. "I still have some of my modeling cash to blow.."

It honestly felt quite nice to have some money to spend for once. He was so used to being broke all the time that even a small sum like what he had felt extravagant. He couldn't wait to get a few nice outfits from the stylish vendors of this area.

As expected Emiko had brought some homework with her and while Deus was sleeping she directed all her focus on it, aiming to distract herself from thinking of what had happened earlier. When the duo finally reached their destination Emi was blown away by the size of the city. She was a simple girl from a middle-sized town and had never been in a metropolis like Tokyo before, only seen it in pictures and books. The hoards of people that pushed past them was intimidating but at the same time she felt exhilarated. Everything was new and exciting and she wanted to drag Deus around to every corner of the city to explore.

“Yes! Let’s do that,” Emiko grinned as her head constantly turned from side to side, gazing at billboards, neon lights, people and all kinds of stores. “We have the whole day for sightseeing and walking around before the dinner at the hotel restaurant and then the concert tonight.” She would have liked it better if their trip were a bit longer so that they didn’t have to feel stressed, but at the same time it was better than nothing and Emiko was really glad to be experiencing the city.

"Good, I'd hate to be on a schedule from the start. That sort of thing is really exhausting." Back when he was a kid his dad would always create a detailed schedule and force them to adhere to it strictly. That really forced down the mood of the family vacation. Deus understood that this was simply his dad's way of making the most of a limited vacation time but still! Didn't he even understand that it was a time to relax?! This simply didn't suit Deus' tastes at all..

Still, he wished he could have one of those troublesome outings again..

He leaned forward shielding his eyes with his hand as he looked for the first shop. They didn't have time to fool with the buses so he'd just have to keep it to stuff that was local. Good thing then that their buss stopped them off in the heart of the cities' shopping district. Tokyo really was legendary for a reason. From here he could spot several major brands within walking distance.

"Let's go to that store." He said spotting one that interested him. "In the window I see one of this season's designs from my families clothing line. I'm curious to see it in person. It's been generating a lot of press.." He said idly. Well he did have this side to him as well, after all. A businessman that kept alert of all his families businesses. If he wanted to run the company some day he needed to stay current.

Sad that staying current with his own families' businesses meant trawling the internet and asking for favors rather than just saying he wanted kept in the loop to his grandmother. The Solomon's really were a force to be reckoned with.

“Oh, really?” Emiko said, craning her neck to look at the store Deus was pointing at and followed him as he walked. “It’d be very interesting to see some of the stuff your family has-“ she cut herself off with a gasp, mouthing “Wow,” as they entered the lavish store. It was more than obvious that Emi was out of her natural element, she had never been in such a store before and she did look very plain in comparison. Although, as she eyed Deus he seemed to fit right in.

Closing her mouth that had been hanging open upon entering the boutique Emiko tentatively walked deeper into the store, turning her head to head as she admired the fine garments. She stopped beside a clothing rack and carefully fingered on a beautiful dress. It was red and a real showstopper that hugged every curve of a female’s body, enhanced it and could captivate. It was definitely only for the daring and elegant kind.

As Emiko reached for the price tag in curiosity her eyes suddenly bulged out of her skull and she let out a croaking sound. It cost three times more than her monthly budget! No! It was four times more! "It has to be some kind of mistake. It is impossible for something to be this expensive..." she mumbled to herself while continuing staring at the price tag as if she was hypnotized.

He glanced over her shoulder, eyeing the red dress idly before taking it from her and handing it to a sales representative. "We'll take it." He said placing his hands on his side. He glanced to her. "I never really finished our dinner as an apology for getting us put on billboards, so I still owe you one. Deus rules dictate I always pay back what's owed. The debt increased from making you cry and the time it took to repay but with this we're even.." He pushed her forward. "She'll need your measurements.."

As soon as she was out of sight he leaned forward looking like he'd been punched. "T..That price..!" He said weakly feeling like he was going to die.

"Eh..? Deus? Are you here with your girlfriend? I hadn't heard of a Solomon coming out here! I would have made preparations at my shop!" A man said.

Deus instantly recognized him as a business partner of his uncle. Deus didn't really want to get involved with someone like that right now since this was his precious vacation and any interruption took away from his time to relax and enjoy himself and as such he merely scoffed and turned away. "You've got the wrong guy." He said coldly.

"No! I recognize you!" He said eagerly.

Deus glowered a bit in annoyance walking to the back. "Yes, i'm here with... my fiancee! It's top secret! That's why you don't know, okay?"

"Ah! congrats!"

"Thanks." Deus said barely suppressing a laugh. He grabbed Emiko practically dragging her out as soon as she was sized up and he'd given details to send the dress too, pulling her out into the crowd.

Meanwhile inside the shop the owner picked up a phone. "Ah.. Mrs. Solomon! I jsut heard about the engagement!"

..Well let's save that disaster for another time...

“Wait, what?!” Emiko made a grimace that resembled the famous tragedy mask as she looked at Deus while being dragged off. It was a very beautiful dress, it was a stunning dress, but really, it wasn’t something that Emiko would ever dare to wear nor would she probably ever have a chance to. It represented everything she wasn’t, but that fact obviously didn’t matter as she was pushed in to a large fitting room and forcibly stripped when Emi made no sign of making it easier for the staff.

Exiting the fitting room on slightly wobbly feet and tousled hair Emiko joined up with Deus and was soon dragged out while mumbling, “I feel so violated…”

Outside the crowd had doubled and everyone was rushing into different directions. No one really seemed to take time so slowly stroll and look around. Emiko stayed behind Deus and let him plow through the mass of people as it was almost impossible for her to walk beside him and not be separated. At one point she suddenly halted to fascinatedly stare at a group of people completely dressed in the famous ganguro fashion. However, that had been quite unexpected by the person behind Emiko and bumped into her.

“Oofh!” stumbling forward and falling down on her knees, she quickly got up on her feet and angrily said “Hey! Watch where you are g-“ Emi silenced as her mouth feel open; she was staring at huuuge man with a long braid, clad in a Hawaii shirt under his jacket and with several shiny earrings in his ears.

“What did you say?” he said with a deep intimidating voice, stepping forward and bumping Emiko with his belly.

“I.. eh.. I said you sh-should watch where you are going,” she stammered, tilting her head up to look at the giant. He snorted loudly, ignored the comment, brushed past her and continued walking. “Hey! You should at least apologize!” Emiko turned around with a hand stretched forwards, thinking to grab hold of his jacket and make him stay. However, she accidentally grabbed hold of his long braid. And it fell off.

For the second time that day Emiko’s eyed bulged and she stared at the braid in her hand completely stunned. Had she just pulled his hair off? Terrified she slowly glanced up at the man and could see how his face grew red with fury, steam was probably going to come out his ears any seconds now, but Emi didn’t wait to see and like a bullet zoomed off with the braid still in her hand. She didn’t even stop when she spotted Deus up ahead and instead yelled “RUN!”
