[UNPAUSE]

The entire group was now gathered back at Baker HQ. The room was large and technologically advanced. Computers and monitors all over the room were flashing between various faces all yammering at once. Asking for answers to questions that no one had.

What were they going to do now that the Bakers were dead?

Would the mission continue?

Who was left alive?

Were the others in danger?

Jameson sat on the desk, face grave as he leaned forward. He cringed hard, blood bursting from his mouth. By now his entire head of hair had turned pure white. And his eye scar had greatly reduced in size. His skin was pale, his body was sore, his mind was ravaged.

"I dunno.. What's going on.." Jameson said coughing up specs of blood. "Reshvul's venom should be purged from my body by now. If it's not his venom that's killing me it's Edmund Drake's magic. But that's impossible... So something Reshvul did to me is still in effect.."

He stood to his feet and threw his fist into the wall howling in rage. "I'M SICK OF THIS!" He spat out. "Edmund is dead... Ryousuke is dead... Beaumont's been captured. And all of you were easily beaten.. The Professor beat us.." He collapsed to one knee, coughing again.

"Jameson.. You should rest.." Oliver said patting his back. "You've been through a lot today... You're in no condition to see this through to the end.."

"Yeah..." Jameson sighed heavily.

"..what?"

"I agree.." Jameson said as he looked to Oliver. "I.... Even I can see I'm not in the state to lead." He dragged himself to his feet and walked over to a table, taking off his coat. "I always dreamed of this day, but never like this." He said as he took out a book. "The Baker's License." He said handing it over to Oliver. "For now.... You're the last baker. I'm... I just.. I can't do it.." Jameson said shaking his head.

Oliver smiled and took it, "I refuse.." Oliver said flatly.

"Oliver!"

"BUT.... I'll hang onto it.. Just for a bit. Until you're ready to take it back." Oliver said with a smile.

Jameson sighed heavily. "Thank you." He said hugging the boy before walking to the elevator and heading down to the medical ward.

Oliver stared at the book and opened it. Pictures of men Oliver didn't know filled it. The last three he knew instantly, though. Edmund Drake, Jameson B. Willicott, and Oliver himself.. This was a book passed down from mentor to student for generations.. He closed it and closed his eyes taking in a breath.

"Okay!" He turned to the others. "For now I'm in charge. Connect me to the WDA in America on the monitors, then bring up a representative from every detective group in the Irregulars Network. WDA, gather round.."

He turned to the group with a large confident smile. "We're going to end this, once and for all!"

Born with a heart broken from the start
Emiko bent her head down in sadness, feeling a lump in her throat. She couldn’t believe that they had lost so many so fast! The girls had really been lucky to be found alive. They had been trapped in a vault-like cell, it would have been so easy to just kill them off… She shivered at the thought and lifted her hands to rub her arms. Would they be able to pull through?

Looking up as Jameson coughed blood and started to speak Emi watched him worriedly. He looked so different now, almost unrecognizable; white hair and no eye patch, and no limp nor fedora on. On top of that he looked completely beaten down. It was a change hard to witness.

“Wait, what…?” Emiko mumbled, straightening up in her seat as Jameson gave Oliver the Baker License and left him temporarily in charge. Of the Bakers. Of the WDA. She looked at their new leader with wide eyes as he started to give orders.

"We're going to end this, once and for all!"

The girl was... still quite speechless even after a while since she was explained about the whole ordeal. Seth was still unconscious somewhere in the base and she was sitting here completely unsure of what to do. She wasn't a part of the original operation at all, and was deathly wondering if the girl had been the anomaly in their part that caused so much loss to everyone. Or course it was improbable, but the girl couldn't help but feel guilty.

...

"...Oliver," The girl suddenly said, coming to a decision, getting up to her seat and eyed him with dead determination in her eyes. "Let me take over for Seth as the third White Knight," Actually there's no third knight in chess, but do you really want to deny that girl right now?

Jonathan stood there with his arms folded. Luckily enough they had managed to get Jameson and the others out of their location safe and sound. That was good, to many good people had been lost already in this mission. Jonathan watched the exchange between Jameson and Oliver and frowned. With Jameson also out of the picture currently their chances had been decreased even further. They were down two people and in all reality had trouble fighting against the Professor's men originally, Jonathan was sincerely wondering how in the hell they were going to fight against them properly now.

When Oliver called them around Jonathan slowly walked over to stand near him, he wanted to hear what kind of new plan that Oliver had. He was still out for the Professor's blood and Jonathan was sure as hell more then willing to help him get it. After all, he still had to pay him back for all those people whom had died. Jonathan didn't like it that so much blood was being spilt over this and he wanted to stop the professor just as much as everyone else did he was sure.

Jonathan glanced towards Youma when she asked for Seth's position in the plan. While he would of raised his voice in protest Jonathan knew that they needed everyone that they could get to help them. Despite his distrust of Youma he still realized that she was more then likely needed to help the plan succeed. He turned back to Oliver and waited for his response to the whole situation and what his plan was for ending this fight.

"Another teleport... but somehow, this one felt different," Jen commented as she found herself teleported to the Bakers' Headquarters, inside what appeared to be a command center of sorts, filled with all sorts of advanced computers and other high-tech stuff. Instinctively, the purple-haired girl checked the time on her phone, which was still displaying the time from Barcelona's time zone. Although before she checked her current time zone, her eyes widened at the time being showed.

Only seconds had passed when Jameson teleported them from Barcelona to here? Jen wondered.

"Wait, this is an instantaneous teleportation isn't it?" Jen exclaimed. "Why didn't anyone tell us they had this all along!?" She couldn't help but feel frustrated at what appeared to be blatant stupidity on the part of the Baker Street Irregulars - if she, Emiko and Star got to use the instant teleport, their mission might've turned out differently. After all, a lot can potentially happen in twelve hours.

"But boss, you need to get some rest," Jen turned towards Jameson in a look of concern and worry after the detective revealed what happened to him. "Alright, what next?" Jen asked Oliver.

"Alright. First up our new recruit. The grim reaper."

"That's actually some other guy.." Deus said idly in full skeleton mode, glancing toward Emiko Warily. "But yeah. I'm going to reap the people you guys.. er... kill.." He said glancing back to Emiko again. "IF you kill them, you know.. whatever..."

"Right. So the major disadvantage we've had is that people don't stay dead when we kill them. The enemies we've taken down numerous times just get back up and keep coming. But now that's neutralized. We're on a level playing field.."

"HOWEVER... our enemy has probably revived everyone we've taken down until now, meaning they're back at full power.. And we're down Jameson and Edmund. Looks bad, no?"

He turned to the monitors. "That's where some old friends come in. Shiko, Sirus.. You two were tasked with protecting Beaumont, were you not?"

"....We were.."

"And you failed."

"..... I.. urgh.. yeah.."

"Then make amends for it. You two will be recovering Beaumont. Two former special ops agents should be able to infiltrate and recover a target provided a distraction, right?"

"... Even if it costs my life, I'll get him back!"

"Then our role is simple. The WDA will provide a distraction. However we'd be dead long before we entered if we charge in the front. This requires.... tact. Alexa is a dangerous sniper. So neutralizing her is priority alpha. I'll use my stealth mode to slip in and distract her."

"From recovering Seth we discovered their base is in the French Alps. Built into the side of a mountain. We're going to drop you guys off up the mountain and you're gonna come down from there entering the base via the rear. I'll drop in via helicopter and deal with Alexa. Without sniper support you guys should be able to penetrate their defenses. Once inside our goal is the professor's office, located here." He said pointing to the map.

"Shiko's group will enter via the side entrance once we've entered and drawn focus. They'll get Beaumont. Once he's secure we strike The Professor himself. Simple and clean."

He geasutred around him. "Weapons, body armor, tools, it's all here. Gear up. Be ready. We move out in thirty."

Meanwhile the grim reaper moved over from the group to Emiko. "You.. don't seem like the others. Call it intuition or whatever... You shouldn't go with them!"

The girl stood there, watching the others gear up for their next operation. There wasn't anything for her to prepare, because all this time she had never prepared for anything. All her fights had always been 'what you have is what you get'. Whatever she had, that's what she will use. And the only thing she has is herself.

She hung her head, staring at her shoelaces and turning away from the rest of the group, wandering off without so much of a destination. She'll get lost again, in this building. It's quite strange how the girl seemed to have a 100% chance of getting lost even when guided with someone else.

Though it really shouldn't be that surprising... For seven hundred years, the girl had been wandering around the world without any goal, without any destination, without any plans... The only thing that had been going around in her mind was 'survive, survive, survive' despite knowing she would never die... Perhaps... it's her lack of goal, lack of destination... somewhat messed up her sense of direction. Never will she be able to find her way anywhere, for she was too used to being a lost soul, wandering around the surface of the earth without a goal...

And weirdly enough, every time she was lost, the person she would almost always bump into...

The girl stopped in her track at the doorway, her hand resting on the doorknob after opening the door.

...There was Seth. Lying there on the bed, wrapped heavily in bandages, completely unwary of her arrival.

"...You're still sleeping...?"

She received no answer. The girl gave a sigh as she closed the door behind her, walking over to him and sat herself on a stool next to his bed. It's... really weird, seeing him sleeping so peacefully when she's awake. Because all this time the girl never saw him being so quiet and composed... not with her messing around with him all the time. It's really strange, seeing him and not hearing him yell at her... or scold her... or hit her... or make fun of her... or say no to her cooking... or tell her to finish her homework... or watch Gokaiger with her... or help her... or talk to her... or make her happy...

"...I'm sorry..." Her voice was so small, so weak. Her vision was blurry from the tears welling up in her eyes. Her head dropped on top of him, repeating, "...I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."

"You know he wouldn't blame you." Oliver said leaning back against the wall. "I know that kid well and I know he wouldn't blame you.." He said as he folded his arms over his chest and sighed heavily. "Blaming yourself isn't helping anyone. It's selfish. The only one that feels better from blaming yourself is you. Do you think that helps him?"

He approached her an placed a hand on her shoulder, crouching beside her. "When he wakes up give him a big smile and a big hug. If you do that he'll feel relieved.. Even if it hurts to smile that's the selfless thing to do... That's what you can do to help him. Because always.. always the only thing he's looking for is your smile."

He sighed heavily dropping his hand and standing. "I don't mean to meddle, but that's how I feel.." He glanced to the boy and walked to him shoving his fist into the boy's arm with a grin. "Nice job protecting the girl.. You're turning into a real fine man." He said before turning and heading for the door. "Next up is Jameson.."

Emiko’s eyes lingered on the hooded skeleton figure. It was very intimidating knowing that he was a reaper, someone that took your soul away. She couldn’t help but feel a small chill travel down her spine at the thought that this very reaper one day might collect her own, and the fact that his eyes sometimes traveled in her direction suddenly made Emi feel a little paranoid. Was she next? However, she was quickly distracted as Oliver started to give them all the rundown.

Nodding now and then as their new leader spoke, pointed at maps and prints, and then handed out orders Emiko stood up to get ready. She would definitely need a bulletproof vest. Although, while Oliver had been speaking the skeleton figure approached her, startling her as he spoke.

Wide-eyed Emiko stared up at him. Swallowing hard she asked with a low voice, “What do you mean?” she glanced around quickly to see if someone was within hearing range before continuing straightforwardly, “Is it my time already? Am I going to die if I follow them?” She was afraid of what he was going to say, but at the same time Emiko wasn’t sure if she could back down. That would mean that the WDA would be another man short, and despite the fact that she didn’t have any fighting abilities, it was still better than nothing. Although, she couldn’t help thinking of her parents and friends. And Deus. Was she really willing to leave them?

"N-no! Of course not!" The reaper said quickly. "Well.. maybe.. I mean.. I didn't check. You have the same odds as anyone..." He said pausing... He sighed heavily. "Well if you still insist on going then stick with me.. A pathetic weakling like you will die on your own!"

After all he had a new charm that allowed his ghost powers to work in human form, so push comes to shove he could hack and slash them with his scythe or fly away with her. He wasn't going to trust these idiots to protect her and he wasn't going to leave her in harms way either.

What a pain in the ass... how could she be so reckless as to come into such a group?! Was she seriously willing to die for it? He wanted to ask her but she might catch on to his true identity if he acted too much like he cared.. He'd just have to play it cool from here and protect her as best as he could.

Jonathan nodded after Oliver had explained the plan to them. It seemed simple enough and having this reaper guy on their side would make it so much easier not having to fight the same people over and over and over again. Jonathan was brimming with confidence over this, despite the downhill situation they were in Jonathan had no doubt that they could easily succeed at this plan.

He glanced at some of the options available to them, while body armour seemed like a great idea, it would hamper his mobility. That could easily cause the end of a fight if the opponent was strong rather then fast. There really wasn't anything there of any real interest in helping him in the mission there. However that was okay, his powers could compensate for lack of help from those items.

Jonathan stood leaning on the wall waiting for everyone else to choose the equipment that they were taking with them. While the initial plan had gotten off to a less then stellar start he was sure that this one would go much more successful. After all, they were going to be going in together and Jonathan was confident that together they could easily complete this mission with limited trouble occuring, however there was always that little doubt that the Professor could know about the plan they were going to perform, that worried Jonathan most of all. If he knew the previous plan whats to say he didn't know this one as well. However, he didn't voice his worries over this.

However moment's later they'd all be called back into the main room, red alert. Top priority.

"HOW COULD HE HAVE DONE THIS?"

"He never arrived!"

"Damn!" Oliver slammed down his headset turning on a camera feed to one of the lower teleporters.

Suddenly a massive shimmering blue figure emerged from the shimmering light of the portal. Ir'a enormous wings sprawled out giving the creature's long slender blue body. On it's back a single man with white hair and a fedora..

Jameson was rushing off on his dragon Amourette. He typed in new commands into the computer and went through..

"That's five minutes ago.. We got nervous when he never showed up in the medical ward!"

"It was his intention all along to take this into his own hands... I underestimated how much he was effected by all this...! Jameson's rushing in solo!"

"God help him..."

"God help whoever's in his way." Oliver said standing. He turned to the others. "Change of plans.. We're moving out now."

TO BE CONCLUDED
