The Tengu moved through the crowd quickly, almost bouncing with each step. He had a small bag, with the words "Eldritch Influence" written on the side. A pack of Duel Monster cards, unopened as of now, were contained within and Muninn couldn't wait to sit down and add them to his meager deck. He only had three packs, most of which were old cards he'd found as his Tengu Clan had moved through Japan. The man at the shop, whom Muninn swore he'd seen before somewhere, had told him that half the cards were actually from different games. No wonder he'd had such an issue figuring out the rules. He looked up from his path, happy clucking noises escaping as he shifted through the massive crowd. He knew he'd have to get back to school soon, probably before dark, but he still needed some food, a little bit of fabric, and some other miscellaneous items to make him feel more at home. He stopped, turning on his heel and moved to a small food vendor. He realized he was incredibly hungry, and real food sounded delicious. He was used to carrion and other leftovers, rat meat and worse. The smell of the deepfried food was delicious to him, and his mouth began to water underneath the ebon-black mask. He took his food, hopping from one foot to another until he arrived at an outside table. He sat down, and took one quick glance around before removing his mask and beginning to eat. There were many footsteps around him, but he swore he felt someone staring at him... |

How can he not have someone staring at him? That darn mask makes him look suspicious. And it especially had more effect on the wannabe Ace Inspector, whom had taken it on herself to tail this suspicious looking individual. Hiding behind a certain lamp post, stealing a stare at the crow-masked individual happily sitting there unwary of the stalker somewhere behind him. Hmph, do not try to act innocent, for that mask will not hide your malicious intention! What malicious intention? He's at a cafe, eating lunch. ...THAT MASK LOOKS SUSPICIOUS, ALRIGHT?! Staaaaaare... |

The Tengu's head snapped around almost constantly, his eyes focusing on one thing, then the other. It wasn't nervousness, or even fear. It was just... There were so many new things! And people were wearing shiny things! His crow-side of his brain wanted to jingle their keys, play with their shiny cell phones, but his human side kept screaming "BEHAVE, BEHAVE, BEHAVE!" He finished his food, still blissfully unaware of the woman hiding right behind the telephone pole almost directly in front of him. He gathered his plate and utensils, and threw them away in the nearest trash can. When he came back, his blue eyes were in a panic. His deck of cards from Eldritch Influence, and his mask... Were gone. Not like, 'a wind blew them off the table and he couldn't see them' gone, but pinched, pilfered, stolen, ill-gained and sorely lost. A surprised squawk escaped his throat as he clamped his hand over his mouth. He looked up, then around before seeing the woman who eyed him behind the telephone pole. He broke into a run, sliding to a stop in front of her. "D-d-d-d.... Did you see s-someone who s-stole a... Mask an-and some cards? T-they were on my table, and no-n-now they're gone!" He said, his voice shaking with fear and... Worry? Alarm? It was hard to place the other emotion. |

Oh shit damn no he saw me. That's bad, she knows very well what this extremely suspicious looking person would to to her the moment he saw her. He's going to catch her, beat her into submission and force her to keep her mouth shut and never tell an eye or an ear about all she knew! She was on the verge of kicking him in the shin in retaliation too, if it wasn't for the fact that he was actually asking her for help? "Do not be ridiculous, suspicious looking person, do you actually expect me to believe that those were actually yours?" The girl stepped back and said in a stern and authoritative tone, folding her arms in indignation. Goodness, what a terrible way to make yourself look innocent! At least be more creative! ...In any case, she totally didn't see anyone approaching his stuff, since she was too busy keeping an eye on him. |

He blinked, looking down as she admonished him for seemingly no reason. He avoided eye contact, but pulled out a single receipt for a deck of cards. The mask he couldn't prove was his, but honestly, how many refugee Tengus were living in Hyakuji? He nodded, then stepped back. Maybe that's how laws worked here in the big world. If you lost something, it wasn't yours anymore. He didn't mind losing the cards, but he felt panicky and flighty without the mask. "I g-g-guess I could just f-find another one..." He said defeated, staring off to Mina's left. He nodded, turning on his heel. He blinked, trying to keep calm. His mask, hismaskhismaskhisMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASK was all that his mind kept saying. He set down at the table, wondering if he should return and ask the art teacher he'd had class with to help him make a temporary replacement. |

Uhm. Well. The girl stared at the receipt that was handed to her, stealing glances at him sulking at the table. Humph, don't be ridiculous, anyone can forge anything and make it seem real. Or so she thought, but then again... who the hell would go through the trouble of forging a receipt just to steal... cards? ...They would have lots of reason! Like... getting one of the only two Ultimate Gold Premium card in this whole wide world! That thing has to be worth thousands of yens! ...Don't ask how she knew of it! Her... her father taught her that! Even if she doesn't like it! ... Or... she may have just been paranoid. That should explain the dejected feeling she picked up from him. ... She knew it all along! His stuff was stolen! It's all so clear now! Giant fan to the head, ow! Who did that?! ... Dammit, maybe she was being paranoid. The girl turned her attention back to the boy, rubbing her sore head as she pocketed the receipt in her blazer. She gave a sigh, walking over to his table and sliding a chair out for herself. "Forgive me for accusing you of... being suspicious," The girl said in her usual business-like tone, setting her elbows on the table and placed her hands together, crossing one leg over the other and as usual, giving off the aura of someone who deals with no amount of nonsense. "If it pleases you I will be willing to help you relocate your belongings," |

He nodded slowly, looking at her with curious eyes. "T-the cards don't mean much... I j-just collect, but the mask... It's m-my security blanket." He said, a blush of deep red crawling upon his cheeks as he said it. He knew how embarrassing it was to admit to that, and how he probably shouldn't have. He looked around, trying to find a hint of someone, anyone, who might be hiding a large mask in a bag. He looked to her. "W-well, you seem to be the expert on t-tracking... W-where do we start?!" Despite his shock and fear, he felt a small grain of excitement. It was the feeling of getting out, doing something that wasn't ordained by his old Clan! His heart beat a bit faster, and excited clucking noises escaped his mouth. |

"I cannot admit to being an expert to tracking specifically, however I do like to consider myself good," She said coolly. Hey, an Ace Inspector has to keep her image, right? And besides, this intense feeling she had been picking up from this boy... he must be pretty upset that he lost his treasured belonging. Anyone would really, though she wouldn't ask why a mask would be so important... Wait. Maybe she would ask, after all. "However, before that you will need to assist me in clarifying some things," She said as she closed her eyes, preparing to ponder the moment he answered. "Why would anyone wish to steal your comfort object (a mask at that)?" Easily the most important thing when trying to solve a crime. Motive. If there is nothing to drive someone to steal, they wouldn't steal. Stealing is bad and humans are not born to be naturally inclined to do bad things. There has to be a driver, a catalyst or some sort... From there we can probably determine who would steal it. ...Maybe. Do not question her. |

"T-tengu objects are considered good luck. O-our feathers, our masks, anyt-thing that belongs to us. Humans th-think we enchant them to find more money." He looked to her, a small nervous chirp escaping his lips. "Bu-but it's not true! Stealing fr-from a Tengu just means we're not considered an adult anymore, unt-til we make another mask." He huffed, still looking about the busy marketplace. Not too many people had humongous bags, and those that did were relatively far away from the Tengu and the odd "Detective". He tapped his fingernails against the table, the blue tattoos over his neck and hands swirling a little bit faster, looking like icy tendrils crawling over (or under?) his skin. He looked back to her. "I d-didn't steal it. I swear. I j-just bought a deck from a s-slightly odd man in the Eldritch Influence bookstore, t-then went to eat. I took it off, w-went to the trash can for thirty or forty s-seconds, then came back and it was g-gone!" Another little squawk escaped him before he clamped both hands over his mouth. |

...Wait a second, he's a tengu? Well that... should explain those weird bird sounds he were making and that weirdly shaped mask. And she thought that coat was just a regular feather coat... Well then. Looks like we have ourselves some motives. Which...! ...If you think about it would apply to everyone who knows about tengu. Oh, but! Who actually KNOWS he's a tengu besides herself? He doesn't seem to try to hide it but in this city nothing can be immediately apparent. A somewhat confident smirk appeared on her bland business expression as she said, "Very well. Now tell me, who do you think would want to steal your mask, assuming they know who you are?" "You know that any tengu belongings are said to bring great luck?" "Seriously? I didn't know that," "Well yeah, that's what they said, I'm not exactly sure really," Uh. That seemed... awfully convenient. The girl spun on her seat in curiosity of the voices behind her that were talking about tengu, and lo and behold. A black haired dude(?) with jet black hair and a matching sweater wearing that weird looking mask she recognized earlier, and a much smaller silver haired girl in a green and white dress laughing heartily at how ridiculous he seemed. ...Looks like we found our culprit. |
