"Pffft!" Deus spat before using a napkin to path off his chin. "This tea is disgusting!" Deus said annoyed. "Oh..? It tasted fine when I brewed it." Thantos said idly as he dumped the pot down the drain. "Perhaps the bitterness that soiled the flavor comes from within...?" Deus sniffed the air. "Eh...? Smoke?" He stood up quickly rushing over to the ironing board and taking the iron off his jeans. He lifted them up eyeing the hole through them with a fierce scowl. "CHRONUS!!" "Heheheh~ Oops~ I forgot!" "YOU BASTARD!" Deus spat as he threw them down. "Those were new! I spent all my money on some new clothes!" "It's amazing how sometimes people make mistakes and even though they did we must forgive them.." Thanatos said coldly. "My bad~!" "Mutineers! The both of you are mutineers!" Deus spat out angrily. "Burn my pants! Spoil my tea! I am not caving on this one!" He said annoyed. He took both their charms and snapped them off his bracelet. "OUT!!" He commanded, sealing Chronus into it. "And you! If you weren't meeting with her today I'd be rid of you too!" He said glowering. "...The pants were a bit far.. I suppose. I just.." "Your JOB is to serve me! You understand? By failing that duty you disgrace your duty as a butler!" He said forcefully, "YOU at the very least I expect to be on my side! You're the only one I can count on for that!" He said slamming the door as he stormed out. Thanatos sighed heavily as he looked down fumbling with his own hands for a moment.. Perhaps their tormenting him lately had gone a bit far. Thanatos thought they'd goad him a bit until he cracked and apologized.. But honestly Thanatos hadn't considered how upset Deus was about all of this at all. To think he'd be this effected.. He'd really gone too far. 'Oh deus..' He thought to himself as he picked up the things off the floor. 'I AM on your side...' He said as he prepared for another of his and Emiko's cooking lessons. Lately Emiko had seemed terribly down, especially each time she showed up and Deus had found some excuse to be absent. As such he'd increased the number of visits with her if only so that he could try and encourage her a bit.. Edited by Cypriss, Feb 18 2012, 11:11 AM.

Born with a heart broken from the start

Emiko inhaled sharply and clutched a hand over her chest, frozen in her position in front of her dorm as her heart painfully writhed. She had just seen a figure storm out of the Yuki House and then quickly disappear out of her field of vision. But it hadn’t been a stranger rushing out, no, she knew who that had been... How long had it been since the last time she saw him? Did she even know…? Hah! Who was she kidding, of course she knew. Eight days. Two hours and… she glanced down at her watch with a sad expression, forty-seven minutes. It didn't matter what time it was, wherever she went her eyes were constantly scanning the crowds. Her head was always turning from side to side, looking for that blonde head. Searching for those deep blue eyes. Trying to find his tall slim frame among crowds, while her heart furiously pounded in her chest in both anticipation and dread. But she never saw him. It was like he didn’t exist. Even when she met up with Atos in his dorm room, he was never there. He was always avoiding her. Always. And it was destroying her. Emiko was slowly and painfully withering away. She hadn’t slept properly since Valentines, she was too restless and when she did fall asleep she was being plagued by nightmares. She had also lost her apatite and hadn’t eaten properly in days, at most she just nibbled on some crackers or took a bite of a fruit before feeling sick to her stomach. She needed him. She wanted him back. But wasn’t this the answer she had wanted? The answer to if he wanted or needed her? His silence spoke to her clearly. Feeling completely drained and sluggish Emiko slowly moved towards the Yuki dorm, not even noticing as a few friends shouted out greetings, and went up to Deus’ dorm. Standing in front of the door and knocking she could feel tears starting to burn in her eyes. He left in such a hurry only to avoid me... Emi thought with a heavy heart, feeling devastated. And just as Thanatos would open the door he'd see her stare back at him, with large tears rolling down her cheeks and a trembling lower lip. Edited by Lelil, Feb 18 2012, 05:01 PM.

Thanatos sighed heavily and hugged the girl, patting her head softly. "There there.." He said as he ushered her into the room and sat her down, freshly brewed mint tea with jsut a dab of honey as well as a scone. He sat down across from her taking his own cup and drinking a sip before releasing a long sigh. She looked awful. It was clear she wasn't in a good way at all. She wasn't sleeping properly, she looked weak and famished. She never ate much of anything he prepared for her. It was clear the situation was having it's toll on her in a much more physical way than Deus. Where Deus secluded himself off and tried to act like things were normal, she delved fully into her grief and let it ravage her. These two were perfect for each other in how ridiculous they were. "Emiko... If it's this bad you should just say something!" He said with a frown. "I know he was in the wrong but you're simply in no state to keep this fight going.." |

“A-atos,” Emiko cried as she hugged the butler, clinging to him while sobbing. “He hates me, doesn’t he?” the poor girl sniffed as Thanatos led her towards the table and a chair. Sitting down Emi wiped her tears away but new ones kept rolling down her pale cheeks before she hid her face in her hands. It just hurt SO much! Was Deus doing this on purpose? Didn’t he know that this was ruining her? Why did he have to continue this? She was exhausted. This was taking too much of her energy, leaving her incapable of doing much. Every night she was crying herself into a restless sleep and even during the days she wasn't far from tears. Although it was worse now, she had finally cracked after catching a small glimpse of Deus. "Emiko... If it's this bad you should just say something! I know he was in the wrong but you're simply in no state to keep this fight going.." Dropping her hands Emiko looked pleadingly at the butler with tearstained cheeks, “W-what should I sa-say?” she sniveled and rubbed her nose, “I said e-everything I wanted on Va-valentines. I thought I m-made it clear…” taking the warm teacup in her hands Emi stared down at it without sipping from it, instead she just used it to warm her hands. Perhaps it was a little melodramatic to say, but her world was a little bit colder now without that snarky blonde, blue-eyed boy present. “I’m not asking for an apology, Atos,” Emiko whispered after a moment of silence, “I just want to know what I mean to him. I want him to tell me that he wants me in his life instead of stringing me along. Because to me, he m-means… he means…” tears started to well up in her eyes again, some dropping down in her teacup, and Emi squeezed her eyes closed, “…everything.” She inhaled and exhaled shakily, "But he called me an outsider, Atos. Despite everything. I'm still just an outsider to him..." Emiko suddenly laughed, not a happy laughter but a sad one filled with realization, and maybe even with a hint of cynicism, "Heh... I guess I already got my answer..." Edited by Lelil, Feb 19 2012, 03:09 AM.

Thanatos sighed heavily as he leaned forward. "You must realize that isn't the case.. Think of how Deus treated you at the start, always forcing you to make deals and trades in order to do anything, and yet recently he's been going all on his own.. He only said that as a way to protect himself. He's a damned fool, but he DOES care about you.." Thanatos said with a sigh. "If only he could properly show it.." "No, I'm sure he got worried you were going to ditch him and so he ditched you first so that way he wouldn't be the one being abandoned. It's a form of self defense someone that fears abandonment would use." He said as he placed his cup on the table and moved sitting down beside Emiko and pulling her over to rest on his shoulder as he pat her head. "Not that I'm excusing his actions, of course..." |

The butlers words actually made the corners of Emiko’s lips tug a little at the memories of how her and Deus' friendship first started out. She had always had to bribe him, with food, mango juices, favors etc. to make him agree to help her out with things or just hanging out. But Thanatos was right, it wasn’t like that anymore, that had changed. Putting down her teacup the sad and lonely girl leaned against the butler as he sat beside her. “I thought he already knew that I won't leave him. We had that problem once before when Chronus started to meddle, but we got over it. That should have made it clear to him that I’d stay. I even said it again during Valentines, but…” Emiko rubbed her eyes, “...but what about me? I’m not asking for much, really. I just want him to admit that I’m important, and that he wants me around.” She sat up and turned around to glance at Thanatos before looking down at her hands on her lap. “But you are right, I should try to think about it from Deus’ perspective; he has always had abandonment issues…” |

"I, too, think it'd be for the best if he were the one to apologize." Thanatos said with a sigh as he furrowed his brow in thought. "However, it's irresponsible of me to force you to continue in such a depressed state simply to try to prove a point to Deus. While it might be for the best if he were to be forced to apologize I think he's stubborn enough to continue to refuse and you're already in such a bad state.." It was a tricky situation, being pulled by his maternal instincts towards Deus, his desire to teach the boy a lesson and help him grow as a person, and the desire to keep Emiko from harm. Even having let it last this long and allowing Emiko to wind up in such a state was terribly irresponsible of him. He felt a bit ashamed for having let it go on knowing what it was doing to the poor girl. Teaching Deus a lesson was all well and good, but it wasn't so noble when it meant someone else was being broken up about it. Not to mention the fact that until now Emiko had always been so strong in these situations, so the fact she was so weak at the moment meant the argument must have been truly terrible. How could he have been so selfish..? |

Emiko continued looking down at her hands resting on her lap. Since Deus is afraid of abandonment, maybe I am asking for too much after all, she thought to herself, because confirming that I am important, and that he cares, maybe makes him feel vulnerable or look weak. He might even think I’ll use that against him. Emi sighed and rubbed her forehead, he could be so complicated at times... Standing up and dusting nonexistent dust off her pants the black haired girl replied, “You are not forcing me to do anything, Thanatos. This is all me. Me and Deus.” Her tone changed slightly, becoming more saddened, “I realize that he might not want to portray himself as weak by confirming that he cares about me, but at the same time that means he doesn’t trust me. If he can’t trust me- No, if he can’t believe in me, and that I won’t leave him willingly then why am I here? Am I just his pastime until he finishes school and leaves me behind?” She inhaled deeply and smiled bravely at the butler, “If he wants to continue this then I will bear it. It hurts. I wont deny that. It is agonizingly painful, but in the end it will be worth it. Because after that I’ll be happier than I have ever been up until now, and for that happiness I am willing to endure this.” Gesturing towards the kitchen with a nod Emiko added, “We should probably get started, I don’t want Deus to stay out in the cold longer than necessary unless he finds something to do.” |

Thanatos eyed her for a moment before sighing heavily.. She really was a good girl. The fact she cared about him to such an extent was like a miracle. Deus didn't even know how lucky he'd gotten the day he met such a girl. For now all Thanatos could do was try to support them both and push things along so that they could finally resolve this and go back to the way things had been before this all started. Maybe this was naive but Thanatos really believed after getting through this they'd both be better off.. Either way he set to work.. ~~~ Thanatos excused himself after they set the food in the oven. He still had some errands to run before it got dark. Emiko was left to take the food out of the oven after an hour and then she could excuse herself. ~~~ An hour and a half later Deus came in and set down his bag of baseball equipment. He was feeling pretty exhausted and was actually quite eager to eat some of Emiko's cooking for a change. However when he entered he smelled something burning.. He glanced around before heading into the kitchen and taking the food from the oven. He set it on the counter. Completely ruined. "Cheh... They forgot it in the oven...? Not like her.." He said as he looked around to see if she'd fallen asleep somewhere or something. |

Emiko worked diligently with Thanatos, giving him several tips of how to slice and cut more efficiently, what herbs and spices fit best together and reminding him that tasting the food during the cooking process was key to make it taste good, not using exact measurements. It was a little more strenuous than usual working in the kitchen but Emiko didn’t mind, it took her mind off from the more depressing matters going on in her life. When Atos had to leave for some errands Emi ensured him that it was fine and decided to do the dishes and cleanup while waiting for the dish to gratinate in the oven. Standing by the sink she suddenly felt woozy and had to support herself against the counter while waiting for the wave of nausea to pass. The food would soon be done and once it was out of the oven she could go home and rest; she was feeling very weak and tired. Walking to the bathroom to wash up Emiko turned on the faucet to was her hands and splash some water on her face, but she must have bent down too fast because black spots danced before her eyes and then everything went black. Deus would probably be able to hear the water still running in the bathroom, although the door was slightly ajar. If he looked in he’d find Emiko lying unconscious on the floor with a small bleeding cut on her forehead. |

Deus opened the door quickly, growing increasingly concerned, only to have his fears instantly confirmed. He rushed over to her, carefully examining her... ~~~ It took some time to get things sorted. He moved her from the bathroom to his bedroom, laying her across his bed. His fears at first were quickly soothed when the blood was revealed to be from a fairly shallow wound on her head. From there it was just a matter of cleaning it and putting some disinfectant and bandage on it in order to keep it properly treated. Of all places to land, a bathroom floor probably wasn't the best. She seemed to be feverish and weak, which he set to treating with an ice pack, some water and medicine when she was in a semi lucid state. This was.. really shocking. To see her in such a state was beyond what he'd been prepared for. Just like the time on the slope he'd nearly panicked, only keeping it together due to his own secondary nature of being someone that operated well under stress. Either way he had quickly set himself to the business of tending to her. Changing her ice pack and keeping by her side for quite a while as she lay there.. He sighed heavily brushing back the hair from her eyes as he looked down at her. "heh... Can't let you out of my sights for ten minutes without you winding up in some sort of situation... You really are bad luck." |

She stirred a little under his touch, her head turning slightly from side to side restlessly as if she was dreaming, but she wasn’t. For the first time in a very long time Emiko was in a deep sleep, without being chased by demons and nightmarish scenarios involving Deus. She felt warm, and not solely because of the slight fever she was running, it was the warmth of being taking cared of and it made her feel calm, it made her feel safe. About an hour later Emiko turned around to her side, slowly waking up. She was bundled up under blankets and nuzzled her face against the pillow before slowly opening her eyes. The room was dark and it took a little time for her eyes to adjust and she noticed a faint smell of male cologne on the pillow that reminded her of Deus. “Deus…” she sighed sadly and slightly brought the blanket up to her face, closing her eyes and inhaling deeply, filling her nostrils with the scent. Suddenly her eyes widened and Emiko sat straight up in the bed as she realized she didn’t even know where she was or in whose bed she was in. But that was a mistake and her head was pierced with a splitting headache, making her press a hand against her forehead and fall back down on the pillow. Wincing and quietly groaning her eyes scanned the room, immediately recognizing it. Then her eyes fell on him. And her heart stopped. |

Deus, however, was completely unaware of her waking. He'd sat beside her carefully tending to her until she finally seemed to be coming around, and even then he'd stayed with her for so long as he could, even falling asleep on the bed beside her, arms folded under his head as he napped. Well, even now he was the naptime boy, right? His long nights of reaping and long days of jobs and class constantly leaving him searching for a nap whenever he could, but now instead he'd been forced to tend to Emiko. One could only imagine how exhausted he'd been right up until he finally gave in. Well, it's not like he'd be thrilled to find out he'd fallen asleep. How embarrassing, right? For someone so concerned about appearances to display such a vulnerable and weak side to himself wasn't something he'd be terribly pleased about after the fact. But none of that showed. For the moment he was just resting. |

Emiko’s hand moved away from her temple slowly as she stared at his face, just inches from her own. The room was almost completely silent, only the soft ticking of a clock and Deus’ slow breath could be heard. But Emi was convinced the sound of her frantically beating heart could be heard as well. It was slamming against her chest so hard as she stared at his peaceful features. Her gaze followed the curve of his jaw, she admired his strong chin, then her eyes lingered on his slightly parted lips before slowly moving up, closed eyes. Emi almost wished that he’d open them, see her, and then smile. She lay completely still there beside him in the bed and didn’t dare to move from fear of waking him up. If he had been willing to lay down in the bed while she was still there, well, then he had to be extremely tired because he had been avoiding her so far… But how had she ended up here? What happened? The last thing she could remember was doing the dishes in the kitchen. No… I was… I was heading to the bathroom to wash my hands, she corrected, then it went black… Emiko gazed at Deus’ face, “Did you carry me here?” she whispered very softly as a small smile spread over her face and she closed her eyes, feeling happy and wanting just another moment of being near him. Emiko didn’t know how much time had passed. It could have been an hour, it could even have been five minutes, it was hard to tell. But when she was convinced he was in a deep sleep and wake up anytime soon the violet-eyed girl carefully moved, the blankets rustling slightly in the silence of the room. It was time for her to leave. |

His arm reached out grabbing hers as she moved. He yawned loudly as he stirred, stretching out. "One hour five minutes on the nose." He said as he released her and stretched. "My naps are like science in a sleep. I can control them with my internal alarm clock~" He said, twisting in place to relax his back muscles which were a bit still from sleeping in such an awkward position. He sighed heavily as he turned to her. "Where do you think you're going?" He said seriously as he fixed his gaze on her. "I get that you're probably still in a bad mood from the last time but you're not going anywhere.." He said firmly. He got up from the bed and stretched out. "I already told your doom mates and the others that your parents came down to visit and you're staying with them." He said turning to her as he planted his hands on his sides. "After last time you wound up in such a state. Clearly your roommates are useless if they allowed you to get in such condition in the first place." He turned to her. "I'm not letting you out of my sights until you're better." He said with finality as he moved into the kitchen to take out some pots from the cabinet and start making food. |
