How quickly winter has passed, it seemed like it was only yesterday that the snow had started falling on the streets of Hyakuji, blanketing the road and the roadside with fluffy white snow that has as of late started to melt down to watery puddles. The chilly winter breeze persisted however, and the cloudy grey sky prevented any heat from the sun to warm up the surface of the Earth. The cold nature prevented people from coming out of their houses, preferring to stay with their kotatsu while watching the morning news. Not for Seth though. He's on a case. A detective job never ends, even when it means having to help a lost little kid find her parents. "So uh... where did you last saw them?" Seth said, handing the eight-years old a cup of hot chocolate, tightening the scarf around his neck as he backed off from the vending machine. "I dunno, I can't remember," Miki replied with a surprisingly cheerful voice for a lost kid, as she took a delighted sip of the hot chocolate. "Hau! Hot!" Well this is troublesome... Seth sighed, running a hand through his hair as he glanced around the fairly empty street. How could a parent leave her daughter here alone without even bothering to look for her? This is seriously annoying... There has to be SOMETHING he could find as a clue... surprisingly he doesn't even know where her house is, despite her reputation as the daughter of a large estate in town, the Sanzenin family. "I could just... no, that wouldn't work," He said, on the verge of taking out his phone before pocketing it again with a second thought. |

Achoo! Hana sneezed lightly and shook it off before walking over to Seth and the little girl they had stumbled upon. Geez, it was cold out there. Even though the snow was starting to melt, the coldest time of day they could come out was during the morning! Oh how she would've loved to be curled up all warm in bed right then.. But alas, that was not the situation she was in. Right now, she was out in the cold with Seth, trying to figure out where this girl's parents was. Honestly, the true Hana didn't like kids. They were often noisy and sticky and clingy and all sorts of things! She just couldn't handle them. They always annoyed her, even just by being around one. But she was with Seth at the moment, so she was going to have to bear with it for awhile and act pleasant. The kunoichi listened in to what they were saying as she straightened up her outfit. She was wearing a white fur beret along with a light pink scarf tied around her neck and tucked into the zipped up purple jacket. Her legs and feet were covered by dark denim jeans and some brown boots. Hana looked away as she scoffed silently to herself. Figures. This kid couldn't even retain important information which could bring her back to her parents. When looking back to face her two companions, she put on a nice smile. "Ne Seth, why don't we just come with her to the police station? They can probably call her parents if they get her name," she suggested. Looking down at the little girl, she asked, "Do you know your last name?" |

"If it was that easy..." Seth muttered exasperatedly, glancing at Miki who went behind him as though trying to hide herself from Hana's gaze. Pretty strange for her to be so reserved from someone considering her usually fiery and energetic personality. "No police..." The girl muttered, meekly and nervously staring at Hana while tugging at Seth's coat like a lifesaver. Well it's not his fault that she kept on insisting that they don't go to the police, so even if they do know she's one of the Sanzenin family it's not exactly much of a use. One thing's for sure though. She doesn't seem too keen on getting home any time soon. "Ne, Secchan!" The girl suddenly piped, pulling on his hand. "Let's go to the aquarium! Daddy said he wanted to take me there, but he never did..." For one momentary pause that went unnoticed by the boy there was a slight hint of sadness on her face, before it was quickly replaced with the infamous puppy-eyes, accompanied with the overly long plea of "Pleeeeaaaaaase~?" The boy couldn't resist the devastating power of the puppy-eyes. "Aha... well, okay I guess," To which the smaller girl reacted with a gleeful yelp of victory. "You don't mind tagging along? Oh, no reason. Just wanted her to come with him, that's all. |

Hana blinked, secretly peeved at the girl for dismissing her solution. Didn't she want to go home or what?! Besides, they weren't a babysitting service! If that girl wasn't here, she could be going on a date with Seth! Mou! Her outer appearance simply sighed, and looked down to the child with an indifferent look. Geez.. Look at her. Just clinging to him and hanging off of him. Like some sort of blood-sucking leech. Well Hana had news for her! She couldn't just go around hiding behind people all the time! One day she will have to grow up and then she'll be out all alone! That's life. Hana was smart enough to keep these thoughts inside, though it was evident she was a little jealous. That's right. Jealous of that little kid. Because if things had turned out her way today, she might've been the one holding onto his hand and being close with him. Ahhh, mou! Crossing her arms, Hana tilted to the side while being all pouty and sulky by herself. When she heard the girl ask to be taken to the aquarium, Hana's first reaction was irritation. Who did this girl think she was? Did she have no regard as to whether they already had plans or whether Seth was busy? But no, she wanted to take up more of their time.. The slight anger she felt was quickly washed over with surprise as she finished her sentence. The teenage girl spun around to face the girl and eyed her, still a little shocked. That almost faltering tone, that sliver of sadness on her face that Hana was quick enough to catch.. That's right, this girl was lonely. Just like Hana was. She continued to watch her, this time with a sympathetic viewpoint. This girl's parents were probably busy with work all the time that they had no time to spare for their child. If that was correct then this girl had probably run away from home to spend some time with Seth.. Lost in her own thoughts, it was only when Seth asked whether she wanted to come that her mind returned to the current situation. "Ah, sure," she answered absent-mindedly. Looking over to the two, she smiled warmly. |

~~Time skippeh~~ Speaking of skipping, Miki herself was bounding all over the aquarium full of energy, poking her eyes at every single glass pane she could reach as she admired the underwater simulation of the aquarium. Walking through the dimly lit tunnel with Hana, and Miki running off in front of them, squeaking excitedly at every moment she could get, this sorta reminded him of the time when he visited the aquarium with his family back home. It's been more than a year since he last saw them, it felt a bit nostalgic. "Sorry for dragging you here though," He said to Hana as Miki ran off yet again, disappearing into a corner, no doubt hoping to find some sharks. "I guess it's a bit selfish to ask you to come, you probably had something else you need to do, but..." He raised his head slightly as yet another yelp of excitement from Miki came from a distance, indicating she had found her shark. "...I just can't leave her, you know," |

Upon entering the aquarium, Hana had remained silent. Mainly keeping busy by watching the little firecracker practically bounce off the walls with excitement, it was somewhat relieving to see her so happy when she had seen her just moments ago with such a sad look. Not that Hana actually cared or anything! It was only when Seth spoke that Hana remembered that he was still walking beside her. She looked at him for a moment, but her gaze was soon compelled to rest on Miki again. "No, it's perfectly fine," she replied in a shockingly gentle voice. She had never spoken like this before. I guess witnessing that sliver of loneliness made Hana empathize with her. She did remind her a little of herself. Miki's squeal of joy made Hana giggle. Hmm, it was hard to tell whether she was just acting here or really feeling so light-hearted.. Seth's last statement was given her full attention though, and she turned her head to see his face. That sentence sounded somewhat familiar.. Well, whatever. All this told her was that either; A) he felt really close to her, B) he found something ethically wrong with leaving a lone child alone, or C) he just felt sorry for her. That just made Hana think.. If he did just feel sorry for her, could it be possible he felt the same way with Hana? Maybe the only reason he had stuck out for so long being her friend was simply because he felt pity on her. She bit her bottom lip in distaste at the thought. That couldn't be right though.. I mean, Seth was an honest-to-goodness good guy.. right? "Are you close with her?" she asked, feigning interest in the sea creatures swimming around them so that she wouldn't have to catch his gaze. Somehow, Hana felt like the answer to the question about Miki would answer hers too. Even if it seemed like two different issues.. |

He paused for a moment, contemplating his answer. Was he really close to her? Part of him wanted to say yes, but in truth he wasn't exactly sure how to define 'close'. "I dunno," That's his answer in the end. "It's a subjective question, isn't it?" Believe me, she's not the first person to be disappointed with his constantly vague answer. The boy is just that indecisive. Either he doesn't answer at all of he gives a completely different answer than the two obvious ones. "But then again, does it really matter?" The boy gave a sigh as he leaned his back on the glass wall of the aquarium, completely disregarding the notice that forbids anyone from doing so. "Whether I'm close to her or not, I like it if she's around. Keeps my mind off things, see," There was a momentary silence after that. There was a sudden change in the atmosphere. Ironic, at the mention of something he didn't want to think about, he started thinking about it. It was something that had been bugging him as of late, and he couldn't shake it off his head no matter what. "Say..." He started, only to be interrupted by the little firecracker suddenly crashing into his midriff. "Nee, Secchan! Hana-nee!" The girl piped up, grasping both their hand and started pulling the two of them away from the place with a surprising amount of energy. "I found a photo booth, let's take a picture together!" |

His initial response caused a bit of Hana to be a little annoyed. What kind of answer was 'I dunno'?! It was either a yes or a no! So simple! What did he mean by subjective? Either he was or he wasn't! What was so hard about that? She raged internally, in the comfort of her own mind. On the surface, she held back and simply stared ahead of her so he wouldn't be able to detect what was beneath her mask. And then he continued on, causing her thoughts to settle. Well, if he put it that way then.. It didn't really seem to matter to him. Her tightened face began to relax. But then she started to wonder what exactly she was keeping his mind off of..? Was he troubled by something? As far as Hana had noticed, nothing unusual had happened to Seth lately. From what she could tell from his outward appearance, at least. Just as she was about to ask, the atmosphere suddenly changed. I guess that question would have to wait til later seeing as the boy in front of her looked like he was about to say something. "Say..." Hana looked up at him expectantly, awaiting the rest of his sentence before Miki barged into the scene energetically and pulled them away. Hana.. nee? It sounded so weird to hear her name in such a way. Though she was a little surprised at how the girl handled her name, she simply laughed as Miki led the way to the photobooth she was talking about. Purikura, hmm? She remembered the first time she had saw one. A schoolgirl and her friends had stopped by after school and decided to take a picture together. It looked so fun but at the same time, a little childish. They were so excited and upbeat about it, even if it was just a photo. Hana had always been envious of those types of girls.. Of the ability to have so much fun so care-freely. Then again, most if not all of those girls probably haven't witnessed and endured the types of things Hana did. "So, shall we take a picture?" she said with grin, putting the money in the slot. "Here, choose the frames! Can you reach?" she teased, kneeling down beside Miki so they could see the screen together. "Which one do you like, Miki-chan? This one?" Hana was starting to enjoy herself and for once.. this wasn't an act. |

"Of course I can! I'm the tallest in my class you know!" The smaller girl pouted and puffed her cheek as her small hand reached out for the touchscreen, picking a rather simple looking wooden frame like those you could find on portraits. Not quite the typical taste of a normal eight years old girl. "This one..." The girl, seemingly happy with her pick, promptly positioned herself between Hana and Seth, unaware that she wasn't in the camera's range due to her height. "No, come on, the camera can't see you like that," Seth said in amusement, picking her off the ground and positioning her so that he's sitting on his shoulder instead. "Uwoh! Now I'm taller than Secchan!" She just couldn't contain her excitement. Well, just hurry up will you? I'm pretty sure the camera has a timer or some sort before it starts taking pictures. "Now don't just stand there!" He said with a cheerful grin, as though whatever that had troubled him earlier never existed in the first place, suddenly reaching out for Hana as he dragged her in front of him. "I'd feel bad if you're not having fun too, you know," Snap! Snap! Snap! Snap! Snap! ~~~~~ "Ehehe~ Hana-nee looks so silly in the first picture," The smaller girl giggled in amusement as she took the finished pictures from the booth, her eyes scanning through the strip of photo sticker with glee. She took two copies of the photo sticker and handed them to Seth and Hana. "It's for you two," He took the sticker photo gratuitously, looking through the ridiculous poses the three took while taking pictures. Totem pole, him imitating a dolphin, suddenly the three were wearing black suits, him holding a real dolphin in his arms... where the hell did all those stuff came from anyway? One particular picture took his attention though. The only normal one of all the pictures, featuring him and Hana standing shoulder to shoulder, and Miki jumping up just in time to get into the frame as the camera snapped their pictures. Right underneath the photo were three words, B.F.F. "What does B.F.F. means anyway...?" Miki asked in curiosity, tilting the photo to the side as she attempted to decipher the meaning, thinking it was some sort of an alien language or something. Well, of course it's not, though Seth decided against explaining it to her, peeling off one of the photo sticker and stuck it to Hana's cheek. "Looks good on you~" |

Hana watched Miki through the corner of her eye as she flicked through frames for their photos. They weren't so different, Miki and Hana.. In fact, they were actually quite similar. Was that why she was treating her so nicely? She looked at the frame the little girl had chosen. A plain wooden frame..? Ah! To make it look like a family portrait? The olive-eyed girl looked down at Miki again for a second before Seth noted that she wouldn't be seen and picked the girl onto his shoulder. Err. Wouldn't she be too tall for the photo now? Before she could say anything, Seth quickly yanked her into the photo. "Ahh! Cho--" Snap! Snap! Snap! Snap! Snap! Too late, the machine had already begun taking photos. Hana's face instantly changed with every shot, even throwing in some silly expressions. This kind of thing was stupid but.. It was fun. After it was over, Hana sweatdropped and said to Seth in an exhausted tone, "Hey.. Do you mind giving me a little warning next time..? Seriously.." The kunoichi looked over Miki's shoulder as she looked at the freshly printed photo stickers. The first photo.. Well of course she'd have a weird expression like that when Seth just pulled her into the picture last minute!! "See! Look what you did!!" she berated, pointing a finger at Seth. Her angry expression melted into a smile as she laughed. "B.F.F..?" she repeated, taking the purikura strip that Miki handed to her. Ahahah! BFF as in Best Friends Forever? AHAH. That title was just so embarrassing.. Only stupid happy-go-lucky school girls did that kind of thing right?! BFF is just so stupid.. Ahah! Ahah! Hana suddenly turned rigid and blushed a little, embarrassed by even trying to explain it. "Well, it's just.. some stupid thing some stupid girls say okay? Don't turn into a stupid girl okay, Miki?" Hana laughed it off nervously, averting her gaze. Letting Seth put the sticker on her cheek and leaving it there, Hana sighed and swiftly stuck a sticker on Seth's forehead as she explained a little reluctantly, "B.F.F. means Best Friends Forever." |

"Best friends forever...?" Miki repeated the term in a small voice, eying the photo sticker in her hand before a big smile suddenly crept up her face. "Then, isn't this great?" She said gleefully, taking both their hands as she hopped on the spot as though she's high on sugar. "We can be the bestest friends forever!" Can you seriously say no to that kind of face when it's shoved straight at you like that? "Sure, why not?" He answered with the same warm smile. That kind of innocence and naivety of a child is something ridiculously contagious, you just can't help but agree with whatever the smaller girl says, no matter just how much you know about the cold and harsh truth of the real grown-up world. He was sort of reminded of the little lecture Robyn gave him back then when they were at the park with Miki. Of course, the pep-talk was less memorable than the fact that they had to do a play of the classic 'The Prince, the Dragon and the Princess'. Gosh he was glad they deleted the pictures. ...Not after sending some of them to his sister... Put that out of his mind. "Oh, by the way, isn't it time for you to go home now?" He asked without any particular inwardly intention. All he wanted was for her to get back home safe seeing as it's getting dark. But the answer he got from the little firecracker was not something he expected. The girl stopped skipping around, the smile dropped off her face as a glum look overtook her expression. "I... don't wanna to go home..." |

Hana blushed in embarrassment again as the little girl proclaimed their status of friendship using such an outrageous term. Though she wanted to voice against it, the teenage girl just didn't have the heart to crush the over joyous attitude Miki now possessed. So instead, she looked away with an uneasy face and said in a low voice, "B-Baka! Not so loud.." Hearing Seth's nonchalant acceptance of this caused her to look up to see how he could be so seemingly fine with it. Wasn't it embarrassing?? Though what she saw was a genuine heart-warming smile and she couldn't help but grin goofily also. It was true, this childish innocence and naivety really was contagious.. Hana watched Miki with a smile, the little girl smiling and bobbing elatedly. Being able to conceive happiness from such trivial things really was a skill, wasn't it? Though it was due in part to not having witnessed the cruel truths of the world, Hana wished to herself that maybe one day, she too could do the same. Still watching Miki, Seth suddenly mentioned bringing her home. As Miki's face fell, so did Hana's. The child's face once again took on a sombre look, reminding Hana of her own loneliness. The kunoichi knew all too well how Miki felt and before she could think, she reacted. "Not yet, not yet!" Hana exclaimed, "I'm not done yet!!" Quickly grabbing both Seth's and Miki's hands, she dragged them along with her as she ran toward a crepe vendor before anyone could protest. "Crepes! Crepes! We have to get crepes!" She had no idea what she was doing or where she was going with this.. But if it kept that lonely look from returning.. This was fine for now. Edited by Slyte, Feb 14 2012, 06:18 AM.
