of Cosmic Love and Brutality
|
Declan stood quietly at the cemetary. It was a grim reminder of things that could have been, but was no longer possible for him. He could of had a tombstone, a memorial, anything to signify his passing, but he never passed to the great beyond. The Gods were cruel in that curse. Family, friends, loved ones.. All perished over time. Time seemed to be a cruel mistress in that respect. He stood before an unmarked grave. The sands of time and weather had worn away whatever name was left upon it. It almost seemed neglected, standing by its lonesome. Fresh flowers laid at the base, a gift he brought. Who knew that Declan would spend time at such a place. A man gifted with neverending life, and yet here he was at a cemetary, paying his respects. Several long minutes passed before his lips began to move, a language old and almost as unused as Latin left his lips. The sound soft, but sad. He sang in an old tongue, a haunting melody of the life beyond. A song that was used at funerals when he was but a child. A song to guide spirits to their long awaited resting place. "Dae monar tuu gaess un dagund falla roon(Oh spirit follow the sound of my voice) Kowl bunda krae tannim suun(And head for the setting sun) Dae monar tuu huan dinnas guul roon (Oh spirit head home with my voice) Kowl teira mannas krae caullum deiga jaa(To loved ones that wait for you) Salas dinnas braga cruun tuu falla roon(Press onward and follow my voice) Talos vaer teema gaess un caullun jaa."(The journey's almost over for you) Upon completion of the song, his eyes closed and he paid his respect for the people buried here at the cemetary. |

Hayzel gingerly traced his hand from head stone to head stone while he passed through the fog of the grave yard. He ran bead by bead of his rosary through his fingers, something he did to calm his nerves in an unfamiliar place. Approaching a small Cyprus tree, he then began to take carefully steps south, mouthing the number of each step slowly until he reached thirteen. Finding himself at a small marble grave, he knelt down and began to brush away the grass and other growth that littered it. Unveiling the script written across the stone he softly read it out loud to himself. "Takashi Sato, 1880-1945. Akiko Sato 1889-1945" Smiling he ran his finger along the letters of the grave, happy to have found the resting place of his great grandparents. Before he could get back to his feet, a sudden chill ran up his spine. A strange voice was singing in a language that he didn't understand. Looking around, he tried to make out where the voice could be coming from. Peering in the distance he could make out a shadowy figure, but he couldn't decide if it was a person, or just his mind playing tricks on him. He held his breath as the melody continued then when it was finished he exhaled. Looking back to the figure, he clenched the hem of his shirt then meekly called out, "Hello? Is someone there?" |
