Gail accepted the plate, laying it on the table squarely in front of her. Taking the bottle of ketchup in hand, she turned it upside-down, just as she had seen Seth do. She took a long, hard stare at the plate he had written on, memorizing each line she had to draw. And when she was ready, she began to squeeze the ketchup bottle. She squeezed it a little too hard at first, causing it to come out too fast. But she relaxed her grip in order to match Seth's. ...L... ...O... ...V... ...E... "I have completed it, Master Seth." In a weird way, she sounded almost like a child who was proud that she could do it all by herself, but still with Gail's trademark disconnected stare and monotone voice. It was an odd combination, to say the least. "Have I done it correctly?" He was probably the only person in the world that could have heard the faint sliver of hope in her voice. |

Next time, be wary around Gail. She has this sure-fire way of making his heart flutter without even actually intending to do it at all. "Ah... yeah, you did... uh... great. Really great," Seth said with a fake cough, fumbling around slightly with his words and was red in the face at hearing that ridiculously hopeful voice of her at something so mundane such as spelling out words with ketchup. "I'm so proud of you," He can't look at her in the eyes. Trying and failing badly to keep a straight face the boy turned away to look at the kitchen entrance instead, having a hard time keeping the gleeful grin from appearing on his face, unconsciously patting her head. Yep, he's enjoying every single moment of this~ Until he spotted Youma leering at him from the entrance. "FFFF--NO, WE'RE NOT DONE YET, THERE'S STILL A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO BECOME A MAID! Geh, sorry!" The boy yelled out of reflex, unintentionally tightening his grip on her head before realizing it and released her. Goddammit Youma, why does she have to butt in and ruin his fun all the time?! Well... actually you're the one who's thinking too much about it. Probably the only one who actually even bothered to make such a big deal over everything. But is there really helping it? Gail is just too annoyingly adorable~! ... He really should just kill himself one of these days. "A-anyway..." He finally muttered after a few moment of silent contemplation, rubbing his neck as he shuffled towards the fridge, taking a number of ingredients from it. "Why don't we just move straight to the final part..." He said as he moved towards the stove, shoving the current chef aside and getting a grumble from him to which he didn't bother to reply, and, well... let's skip this part. After about a dozen minutes when the magic of cooking was unleashed... "There," He said with a slight hint of pride, shoving a single plate of piping hot fried rice wrapped in omelet under her nose. "The Ryouga's specialty, passed down the generations of my family," In fact he made two of them. "Ufuu~ Be proud that you could even lay your eyes on it. People in the past have gone to heaven just smelling it from the kitchen," Well. At least we can be sure that there's one thing he can be genuinely proud about. Maybe a bit too much that he forgot about his little task at hand. |

Seth's words made Gail happy. She still didn't smile, although she wanted to. But she knew that Seth could read her feelings by now, although she had no idea how. When she had to read Seth's feelings, she could only do so through the most obvious cues. But knowing that Seth was proud of her made her feel like nothing else did. No one else had ever congratulated her before. "A food that sends people to heaven...?" Gail asked, inquisitively. It was easy to see that she wholeheartedly believed it - after all, Seth had never lied to her before, right? "Does that mean that they die upon smelling it?" From what she had heard, heaven was a place that people went after they died. Even though she could see ghosts, she hadn't ever seen such a place for herself. But if Seth said so, then it must be true. She looked at the food thoughtfully. Seth had always gotten food for her in the past, but he had always bought it from someone or somewhere. This was the first time that he had actually cooked it himself. It looked a lot better than food that was purchased. She watched him cook intently, hoping that she would be able to mimic his technique exactly in the future. She accepted the plate and set it in front of her, just as before. Taking the bottle of ketchup, she squeezed it out to write... ...L... ...O.. ...V... ...E... It was written in exactly the same position on the plate as the last one, as though it were a routine that had been re-run from a machine. But there was no mistaking that Gail truly cared about the result. She couldn't allow the red stream of ketchup to land even half a millimeter off from the desired result - she drew with it as though her life were at stake. The dish was finally complete - a plate of omurice with the word 'Love' written on it in ketchup, just like Tsu had said. Even in just being able to spell it, she felt like she was closer to truly understanding it. And most of all, she was happy that Seth was here, helping her with everything. She would be completely lost if not for him. He was the only person that she could think of as being important to her - the most important person. "Here you are, Master Seth." Gail said as she gently held out the plate for Seth. Her order had been completed. She hoped that in this act, she had become closer to becoming a maid, as Seth had requested of her. Eyeing the second plate of rice, she slowly asked, "Could we eat together, Master Seth?" Edited by Erin, Feb 24 2012, 04:26 PM.

The boy simply stood there, feeling a bit loss in the situation as he glanced around at the other workers of the cafe minding their own business. "Uh... say Gail... you know what...? I... think it's better... if you don't be a maid after all..." The boy said hesitantly, looking away from her and absent-mindedly messing her ketchup writing on the omurice with his finger. "It's uh... it's a job that requires dedication... Not that you don't have any, but... yeah, maybe it's because... you have too much of it? Wait, that's not right..." The boy paused in contemplation, rubbing his neck as he tried once again, picking his words more carefully this time. "Well... see, a maid is supposed to serve their master... and in a maid cafe, anyone who comes here is your master, so... you have to serve them... make them happy... love them... Not just me, but others as well," For some reason there was a slight look of unease on his face at the thought. Why though, isn't that what she's supposed to do? YOU wanted her to work here, after all. His sentences faltered at this point, not sure exactly how to convey what he was thinking without making it so blatantly obvious. |

Gail listened to Seth's request, a little confused. He had requested her to become a maid. But now he no longer desired it...and the reason seemed to be that he could not, as he said before, 'have her all to himself'. He didn't want her to have to serve others besides him at this restaurant. That much, she thought she understood. But, it reminded her of something that Oliver had said... "When two people take special note of each other...when they can't stop thinking of each other and when they care deeply for each other's well being then that's a form of love. Soon they'll want to touch each other, to be near each other, and eventually they will begin to wish for monopilization." "Seeing them with others strikes a blow deep in your heart, seeing them touch others makes you feel ill, there's pain and suspicion and anger. It's a real mess...So you tell them how you feel and if they feel the same you begin dating." Gail was thinking intently. She decided the best thing to do would be to make a checklist in her head and see how many of the requirements they currently fulfilled. [√] Think about often [√] Care about well-being [?] Touch eachother (???) [√] Be near each other [√] Monopolization Together, they fulfilled 4 of 5 stated requirements, meaning there was approximately an 80% chance that her suspicion was correct. She remembered how she had felt when Seth had been with Hana at the party. And now Seth seemed to feel the same way about her with others at this establishment. Just as Oliver had said, Seth wished for monopolization and was telling her how he felt, and she felt the same. This was a clearly stated precursor to 'dating'. Of course, she still wasn't sure. Even if every requirement had been satisfied, she wouldn't have been sure - after all, this was something she was still learning about. So, as always, she decided she would clear up the problem by asking Seth. "Seth, are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" Direct and to the point, as she always was. A normal person might have been afraid of the fallout if the answer was 'no', but Gail had no clue about such things. She asked it as though it were no different from any other question she had asked - like it was a misunderstanding she wanted to clear up. Of course, there was the problem of Seth already having a girlfriend. At least, that was what Hana claimed. She did not know how such a dispute would be settled. It would be convenient if it was done so by a fight to the death, but she doubted that such a thing would be possible. Oh well. She was sure that Seth could sort everything out. He always could. |

"Ohoo~" was the only sound that Tsubame made after she heard what is it that Youma desires. To be honest, with what the turn of events are, Tsubame actually would much rather ditch her work and go watch the sweet drama unfold, and, for giggles, somehow spoil it and make it "worse" for Seth. Of course, given how Gail appears to be, things will only ever be bad for Seth, since he will be the one among the two that actually recognize what is so terrible about whatever they end up doing. "If that's the case, Ojousama, please let Tsu-chan lead the way~" With great composure, the girl slightly pull the chair behind Youma, and gently gestures Youma to move towards the back stage. Why yes, it will be quite alright for them to spy, right~? She gives a small wink to the manager of the day, and made a "please do me a favor" face at him and at several staff member, before leading the way to Youma. After all, while this is not really on the rules of "do-nots", it still creates inconveniences for other staffers. But then again, this will be so much fun, that Tsubame feels as if she would regret it if she misses it. ~*~*~*~*~ While Seth and Gail are enjoying their sweet time together- Gail may not be sensing it, but Seth is definitely enjoying it himself- there are two pairs of eyes peeking from the darker corners of the kitchen. The two girls are hiding near the cabinets from the sides, and observes closely, from behind, the movement of the two. As if this is not enough, out of nowhere Tsubame has taken out her PDA, and put it on speaker, just loud enough for them both to hear the conversation going on between the two people. Everything is going really well, actually. While Seth was able to spot Youma, they weren't really able to spot Tsubame, since Tsubame is kneeling instead of standing. There is a non-eraseable, mischievous smirk on Tsubame's face for the entire time, too, that one may have to ask why she is enjoying this so much. … Maybe the girl is, finally, thinking normally for once? Until the punch line comes into play. "Seth, are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" Ouch~ Tsubame looks up at Youma. Should there something be done? |

His honest answer was a goddamned 'Yes,' at the moment's notice without even actually considering what the girl might have in mind at the moment, but being asked so directly like that knocked his sanity off balance and he was left to stare at her like a dead man for a couple of well-spent seconds before he could finally speak again. "NO! No, of course not! Hahah! W-what makes you say that?! Oh Gail, you are so funny~!" If only he could laugh so heartily on the inside as he was on the outside. His mind raced without anyone knowing as he sported the cheerful exterior, patting her head yet again just to keep his mind straight. Let's be honest here. No more hiding stuff, no more running around. He thinks Gail is cute and attractive. He cares for her and looks after her. His mind would sometimes drift towards her. And... well, he can't deny that he's a liiiittle bit possessive of her... But no. He can't have her. Why not? ...Are you seriously asking me that? This girl doesn't know anything! She doesn't know about love, she doesn't know the meaning of the word 'girlfriend', when he first met her she was scared to even walk in the open, the girl couldn't do maths for crud's sake, she's just... she's just... hopeless. Like someone whom had just been introduced to the world in one day, she's clueless about everything. Now just... imagine, how... just how would he really feel, if... she just understood the meaning of the word 'love' like memorizing the definition from a dictionary, and takes it to the heart when he says he loves her... just by basing it on the printed words she saw on the page of the hardcover Oxford dictionary. It would be... empty. He can't have that... It would feel like he's just taking advantage of her... It's painful for him too, but he just can't do it. "Oh dear... well, anyway... uh... sure, why not? We can eat together," The boy said, keeping the grin on his face as he took a spoonful of the aforementioned omurice, holding it in front of her. "Say aah~" And somewhere at the kitchen entrance... a sigh escaped the mouth of the half-phantom, losing interest in the two and turned away from the spot. "Alright, Tsu-chan... I'm done. Put my bill on Seth's tab," The girl said spiritless, navigating her way out of the cafe alone. Dammit boy... why the hell are you too nice for your own good... |

"Oh. Okay." That was her only response. As though it really had just been another misconception that was now cleared up. Even though Seth's cheerful exterior was paper-thin, it was still more than enough to fool Gail. She had no idea what he had been thinking as she asked that question ...And Seth was right. She hadn't at all understood the gravity of the question she had asked, and still didn't. And maybe she never would. "Aah~" Gail opened her mouth wide for the spoonful of food, eating it graciously. It was just like the first time they had met - when he had fed her in the restaurant. She had tried hundreds of new foods since that day, all with his help. Eating his food made her feel warm somehow. But she told herself that it was just because the omurice was hot, having recently been cooked. It made sense that eating hot food would make you feel warm. That was a logical explanation that she could cite from a textbook. Even though she had followed Oliver's words exactly, it seemed like she still had it wrong. She was sure that she had it that time - that she had finally grasped it in some form. She didn't know if it was because she was doing something incorrectly, or simply because there was something wrong with her. Maybe if she had enough time, she could finally figure it out in the end. But it had been two years already and she had made little progress. And she hadn't forgotten her primary mission. The elimination of Hiro Tsukasa. It had to take place before she graduated - meaning her time was limited. And after she accomplished her mission, it was likely that her identity would be exposed, meaning she would have to leave Hyakuji and go back into hiding. And she realized that Seth wouldn't be able to accompany her at that time. She realized for the first time that she would have to make a choice - between Tsukasa and Seth. ...Maybe it just wasn't meant for me. Or maybe, she wasn't meant for it. But for now, at least she could enjoy Seth's cooking. Things could stay like this for a while longer. ...But not much longer. "...It tastes good." She said, after a while. Of course, Seth's food always tasted good. It surprised her that she had actually come to dislike hamburger and rice, the meal she had been served for 13 years. But Seth's rice was very different from the plain white rice of back then. Seth could even make rice taste good. And to Gail, he was the only person who could. |

Just like how Youma seemingly got upset and or pissed, there is something that seemed to have upset Tsubame. Even just a little bit. "Roger, Ojousama~~" Was the only words she said, after watching Youma leaving the scene. She, however, stuck around and continued to spy o- no, watch over the two. There is a mixed feeling within Tsubame that she could feel right now. For one, she likes Seth. Not romantically, but just as a character in her life. To be honest, she thought it rather strange that he would ever affiliate himself with her hell of a roommate. But now that she actually see him dealing with other girls, she could tell that Seth is, while a good person, too good of a person. With a little bit of what Tsubame would want to call, a male's selfishness. After all, as innocent as one can ever be, Seth should still know the boundary between what would make himself and Gail a friend, and what would make them a couple. Feeding Gail, very apparently, is not one of those actions that you do between friends. And if he does not have the intention to actually treat Gail seriously as a romantic interest, he should have cut that bull crap out since the beginning. What if Gail took that as a hint to continue her pursuit, if she has ever had an interest in Fin? Because, after all, if Gail had no interest in Seth whatsoever, she would not have ever asked that question. And yet, even after he has declined her, he continued to feed Gail in such a way that Tsubame can only conclude as an action between lovers. What else can she say about Seth aside from him taking advantage of Gail? Tsubame wanted to step out immediately after Youma left, but… Gail seemed to enjoy it. As little expression as Tsubame can gather from Gail, she could tell that, if Gail did not enjoy it, she would have refused it from the very beginning. Which is the reason why Tsubame decided against actually standing out from where she hid, until they were done. "Hai hai~ Time up~" The girl stands up, claps her hands together twice, and approaches the two with a bright, cheerful grin on her face. "Lovey dovey time with Maid Gail-tan in the kitchen is over~" The girl walks towards Gail, and puts her hands on Gail's shoulders from behind. She then turns Gail around, and pushes her out of the kitchen. "Now, before we create more troubles for the kitchen staff, let's head back out to enjoy your meal, neh, Goshijin sama~ Gail-tan too, let's head out~" Though, before that, the maid turns around, and stares at Seth for a long minute. Seth will feel a rather murderous, malicious glance from Tsubame, despite the lovely cute and innocent look on her face. "You are the worst." "Dare hurt Gail and I will skin you alive." It is as if she is saying something along the lines of these. |

...Damn. That was the only word that floated around his head as she watched Tsubame exit the kitchen. What did he managed to get himself into now...? ~~~~~ He didn't think he'd actually stay here for that long. Time seemed to pass too quickly when you're enjoying yourself. Though he's not exactly sure he could say that, what's with Tsubame glaring dagger at him from every corner of the cafe unrelentingly. That being said, he forgot why he was here in the first place, until Gail was asked to return the maid outfit she had been wearing this whole time. Well. He wasn't sure if he even cared anymore if Gail got the job or not. I mean, it's good if she did, but he couldn't care less now. "Thanks for everything Tsu, I really owe you one," The boy said to the maid as he stepped out of the cafe. Despite the fairly civil and natural look the two seemed to put up at the moment, he was pretty sure Tsubame didn't want him to even show his face here ever again. I mean... good god, didn't you see the look she gave him earlier? If that wasn't full of hatred then he doesn't know what is. It's only because Gail was here. Neither wanted to see her get hurt, but both had their own opinion on how to do so. And both conflicted each other. Badly. |

Gail didn't sense the change in the atmosphere, nor could she have understood it even if she had. She had returned to her normal clothing, with her daggers once again hidden beneath them. Thankfully, she had managed to avoid anyone finding them. But she didn't plan on quitting the cafe. If there was any chance that Tsukasa would be here, then this was a place that she needed to have access to. Even if Seth didn't want her to, she couldn't give up ground in her mission. This was a position she could use. But she was still confused. She had followed everything Oliver had said...she decided it would be best to go see him again. Perhaps he could clarify for her if she had done something incorrectly. She decided she'd go straight there. She knew how to get to the Double UDA office building, so Seth didn't need to take her. She said she had 'somewhere to go' and left - she didn't want to trouble Seth with bringing her there, since she knew the way. Of course, the fact that Gail had somewhere to go on her own, besides school, would probably be surprising for Seth. It might take her a while to get there. But hopefully, when she did, she would understand a little more... |
