Star grinned at Oliver and Jameson as she stepped out into the forest clearing. "I'll do my best," she promised, giving them a mock salute with two fingers. The photomancer turned away from them, walking out into the center of the clearing and taking a deep breath to calm her nerves as she faced down her opponent. Although she tried not to show it, she was scared, and wondering why on earth she had chosen to enter the tournament in the first place. Oh, right. To test her skills, because strength came from experience. Where on earth did she get that idea? Star had dressed in fairly simple clothing for this match--a pair of white sweatpants, a white shirt, and a light orange jacket. Her hair had been tied back in a braid with a ribbon the same shade of orange as her jacket. Her fingers curled inward slightly and she looked up, a determined look on her face as she turned towards her opponent. Bran Rogers. He was a junior, and a primarily physical fighter. She knew that she wouldn't be able to fight him physically. She also would be somewhat limited in her photomancy, with the sun beginning to set and diminishing the quality of light that she could absorb and significantly impacting the speed at which she absorbed light. And that would get worse as time went on, until the sun actually went down. So she would have to be smart about this if she wanted to win. "I don't think we've officially met," she said, smiling at him. "I'm Star. It's nice to meet you. Good luck today." She inclined her head towards him respectfully, then watched and waited. Star wasn't the type to rush headlong into something like a fight. She would allow him to take the first move. Edited by Chizu, Jan 20 2012, 01:44 AM.

Bran smiled as the the commentators bickered. He hadn't met Star before, but they obviously felt she would do well in this, so that encouraged him rather than intimidated him. His passion for fighting hadnt diminished since the challenge, it had only been focused. He needed to become the best he could be not just physically. He needed to prove his abilities and right to demi-godhood. He felt his blood race, it was ready to fight as well. This made him smile widely as he stretched. He was wearing a black set of under armor with jean shorts and a winter vest. It wasn't the most fashionable look but it gave him mobility and protected him from the cold. He knew the rules, he would be at a disadvantage with needing Hanfod, so for now he would simply do what he could unarmed. Well not completely. But he needed to find out what Star could do. He waved cheerfully back at Star ""Pleasure to meet you too, I hold you do well in this tournament. Give it your all!" He didn't wait, as soon as he was done he jumped upward, the bright setting sun behind him as he aimed a drop kick towards Stars chest, he need to know her defenses, only one way to do that- strike. |

Star's eyes narrowed as Bran jumped into the air, the setting sun forming a bright backdrop behind him. She raised her left hand up to her face, the light around her suddenly brightening. It coalesced, spiraling inward and coating her hand like a glove, before shooting outwards and forming her blade of light with a bright flash. Bran's foot connected with the side of the blade, and Star let out a grunt of effort as the shock of impact traveled up her arm, pushing her back slightly. She stepped back and slashed outward, a wide sweep meant to force Bran to move away and put some distance between the two of them. Star already knew that she couldn't hope to match him physically. She jumped back, her left arm still extended to the side. The blade began to shift and change shape, separating into seven globs of light that hung in the air around her like molten gold. The balls of light shone, solidifying and becoming seven light orbs as they shot towards Bran.

Bran smiled as the light formed at his foot and blocked his attack. So she was like Damon, she could control a substance as abstract as light and darkness, though unlike Damon who seemed to be about Darkness, she did light. He didnt know much about such abilities, but he at least knew what he was up against. That and it meant for a big fight like the challenge he chuckled with joy. He knew entering this tournament was a good idea! He went to the ground and jumped back to avoid the blade of light. It was a fascinating ability, he was sure that blade would cut him like any sword. The advantage was that since it was light, it cast a shadow onto his body. He touched the shadow cast on his chest and the twin blades of Hanfod screeched into exist flying forward from his chest so he could grab them. He felt their energy flow through him. He followed the movements of the sword as it changed to a star. He pusheed his Large blade down into the area, using as a grounder and shield for the stars flying directly at him and keeping his ground, using his Thin blade to deflect the stars at his periphery. He Then Threw the thin blade towards Star, Picking up the large Blade with both hands and making a large horizontal slice behind it.

Blades. Why did her first fight have to be against a fighter that used blades? Although Star had had some basic training in the subject over the summer with J, and had gotten in a little practice with Meglumar before the tournament started, she was still far from becoming great at it. She could probably fight off someone completely unskilled, and of course, having a weapon and being skilled enough to not cut yourself with it was always an advantage when the other person was unarmed, but against someone who had years of experience on her, she knew better than to engage them directly. Star's eyes narrowed as the thin blade flew towards her, and she extended her hands out in front of her. "Aldebaran," she said, orange light flooding through the gaps in her fingers and forming a small round barrier of light in front of her. Aldebaran's strength weakened the more spread out it was, but at this size, it was more than enough to turn away the blade. Star's eyes widened as Bran came up behind it and she jumped back, raising her left hand again. "Alkaid," she said, forming the blade of light again. The blade caught Bran's just barely, stopping it from reaching her. Star's hand trembled slightly as she fought to hold it there, but Bran was stronger than her. If he forced the issue, she wouldn't be able to keep up. She had a trick or two up her sleeve though. Her eyes narrowed, and the fingers of her right hand twitched, moving towards him. Orbs of light formed at her fingertips, three orbs flying towards him from over their crossed blades. If they hit, they would hit with blunt force, unlike the pointed stars she had used earlier, but they were also easier to make, and had been a staple of her attacks for a very long time. Just a little more... she thought to herself. Just have to hold on a little more... Of course, she wouldn't have come to this without a plan.

Bran was grinning widely as the shield came up deflecting his first blade, with a small nod the blade was dismissed and disappeared from existence with the same gut wrenching sound that had brought it, rather than flying too far to reach. He still had the large blade though and as he came down with it on Star he would tell that physically he had the advantage and if he pushed he could get her on her toes. However, He saw the orbs of light not so much their shape but their formation in her hand. Before the challenge, he would have waded through it, but he couldnt do that now. He couldnt just be the Berzerker, that was not his place, he had to be a skilled warrior, and a skilled warrior didn't let themselves be needlessly injured. He Pushed off with his blade against hers, hoping to push her off balance as he went back to put distance between himself and her attack, using the thick flat of his blade as a Shield, the blasts knocked him back a bit but he remained mostly unharmed. He got up again, He needed to throw her off, her elemancy gave her more flexibility in her movements, and as long as she could read him, she could defend herself. He narrowed his eyes and roared a battle cry as he charged her Swinging his blade up as if he was going to swipe again. However, as the distance closed, he let go of his blade, letting it fly behind him as he lunged forward with a left hook to Star's side.

Star stumbled back as Bran pushed away from her, taking a few big steps backwards as she tried to right herself. She straightened up, just in time to see Bran lunging at her with his blade. Star's eyes widened, and she raised her own bladed arm up in front of her to protect herself, knowing that she couldn't move out of the way in time. She closed her eyes, bracing for impact. It came, but not in the direction that she was expecting. Star let out a small cry of pain as the punch collided with her side. Her stance was already weak, and she stumbled to the side, nearly falling over. Star's foot landed on the ground, catching her and stopping her from falling as the photomancer pivoted towards Bran. She drew her left arm back and lashed out at him, then jumped back, attempting to put some distance between them. Her eyes flicked around the clearing for a moment, taking note of the light. A little more. Just a little more.

Bran jumped back and used his forearm to protect himself from the blade, however he hadnt reacted fast enough or judged the length of the blade correctly and a long thin cut spread on his forearm, blood beginning to seep out of the wound and making a light hissing sound as it hit the ground. Bran frowned, he could strike now, but then he would give away his ace in the hole. He decided against it, but to continue to Keep his opponent on the defensive. He began to Circle around Star, his blood dripping from his arm onto the ground below. He continued to move around and the went for the opposite side he attacked before with a roundhouse kick (0/.5/5) |

Star kept her eyes on Bran as he circled around her, her right arm wrapped around her waist and her right hand pressed to the area that he had struck. The photomancer slowly relaxed her hand and straightened up, wincing. It would bruise later, but it wasn't serious. Compared to what would have happened if he had used the blade, it could have been much worse. Blood trickled down the edge of her light blade, hissing slightly as it hit the ground. Star kept the blade at her side, keeping her eyes on her opponent. He had the look of someone who was planning to attack. She just had to be prepared for when. There! Star's eyes widened as she saw Bran move out of the corner of her eye. She pivoted in place, whirling around towards him with her blade raised to block the attack. Except he didn't kick straight at her, instead going for a roundhouse, and moving over her defensive block. Her eyes widened sharply as she realized her mistake. The kick slammed into her and Star tumbled to the ground, falling over in the direction that he had kicked. She took a deep breath and placed her hand on the ground, and slowly pushed herself to her feet, gritting her teeth against the pain as she turned to face him, her light blade still attached to her arm.

Bran felt his foot connect hard despite Star's attempt to block his attack. The Blade hadn't been able to catch his kick and this time, not able to react, Star fell. Bran didnt do anything, but simply watched as she got back up, using her arm to support herself. Her blade hung at her side, as his own arm still was bleeding quite a lot for such a thin wound at his own. The small hissing was the only sound as she turned to face him. She wasn't a fighter, not that she wasn't talented or lacked the ability. But She had been playing defense the entire match, countering but never attacking on her own. Bran also wondered about the range of her abilities. She seemed quite attached to her sword, using it in lieu of her projectiles despite the fact that obviously the range would have been to her benefit. Bran wondered why that was. Still he wouldnt find out by simply standing there. He knelt and touched the shadow of his body, His large blade returning. He grabbed with both hands and swung at her with the flat of the blade, hoping to make it harder to dodge, and break bones rather than cut.

Star grit her teeth and struggled to her feet, breathing heavily as she raised her head and looked up at Bran, her right arm wound tightly around her side. That hurt, but it had paid off in the end, hadn't it? She felt something in the back of her mind click, the technique that she had spent five turns concentrating on finally falling into place. Bran raised his blade in both hands and rushed towards her, and Star's eyes flashed from violet to gold. The flat of the blade struck Star's side and moved cleanly through her as if she wasn't there in the first place, the photomancer's expression never changing even as the blade seemed to tear a path right through her middle, wisps of light clinging to it as it passed... "Where are you looking?" asked a voice from behind Bran. When he turned around, he would see the real Star running a few feet behind him, her hands upraised. Seven orange red stars appeared in the air around her, rushing towards Bran quickly, and circling around him as they approached him from all directions. The stars were sharp at each point, spinning end over end as they whizzed towards him. The photomancer landed lightly on the ground, wisps of orange red light curling behind her and clinging to her skin as she did. In front of Bran, the illusion faded away, reduced to nothing more than shimmering light. Star's eyes were still gold as she watched him. The reason for her oddly simple outfit and color scheme would be immediately apparent. Blond hair, golden eyes, an orange jacket, white pants, and a white shirt. Yellow, orange, and white. All colors that dominated the area at sunset. And all colors that were easily copied without too much thought at this particular time of day. It had taken her a little while to fully grasp the light and the colors in the clearing, but it looked like her little trick had paid off now. She had spent most of sunrise this morning practicing, and while it was still a crude technique, it was fairly reliable for this. Light by nature could not conceal, but it easily deceived. Star grinned, flashing Bran a peace sign.

Bran saw the blade pass through and his eyes widened but his grin grew. She had used an illusion to completely deceive him. He dismissed his blade and turned to look for where she had gone and turned to see her running in the opposite direction. He cursed as he saw the stars rush him, knowing he had no ability to get out of the way and so he raised his arms to protect his upper body. A cloud of dust blew up as the stars collided and Bran dug his feet down. When the cloud cleared the extent of damage was visible. His legs and arms were bleeding and his narrowed eyes rose above his arms to look at Star. He was panting slightly, that attack had hurt but now...he felt he had enough to make a real counter attack. Suddenly there was a an ominous hum that came from multiple directions around the arena, but was focused on Bran. "you're not the only one with tricks though. The blood on his arm stopped dripping, and looked like it had a black outline as it sucked the light around it, and began to Slide towards his palm forming into a claw around his right hand. He began to run at Star slashing with his claw as the blood that had dripped in the battle field rose up like sharp needles around star and flew at her.

Star's eyes widened as the blood on the ground suddenly moved, rising up like sharp needles and heading towards her. Blood magic? She hadn't predicted that. She froze, realization suddenly hitting her as she glanced down at her sword, and then quickly jerked her head to the side as the blood still resting on the blade formed into a needle, flying straight at her face. The needle cut a thin line across her cheek as it passed, a small amount of blood trickling down from it. The photomancer quickly raised her free hand and swept it gracefully in front of her, a ribbon of white light forming in her palm and sweeping through the air. The ribbon caught the remaining needles before they could reach her, swatting them aside and knocking to the ground. As she did that, however, Bran rushed in, ducking underneath her light ribbon and drawing his claw back to strike at her. She quickly jumped back and out of the way, moving just barely out of the range of his claw as it passed in front of her face, severing strands of blond hair. Star's eyes were wide and her face pale, aside from the streak of blood on her right cheek. Her heart beat heavily in her chest, adrenaline and fear coursing through her veins. As Bran looked at her, however, he would notice that her image was blurred, seeming to shift from place to place and making it difficult for him to bring her into focus, as if Bran had suddenly been affected by imperfect vision. It was a continued effect of her illusion--the ambient light of her surroundings masking her and making her harder to target. The ribbon of light whipped back around, heading towards Bran and attempting to encircle him and restrain him.

Bran frowned as she was able to dodge the majority of his attack, and began to feel his body ache. He was still bleeding after all, and while the blood collecting on his hand made his claw bigger, his body in general did not enjoy losing blood. It was not something that the body was meant to do, even for a demi-god, and it was taking its toll. He frowned increased, unsure if his blood loss was causing double vision, or if her illusion was still in play. He clenched his fist. He needed to be careful in these next few rounds. The fight was reaching its climax, he could feel the tempo increasing. The decisions made in the next few moments would affect the final result of the fight. His claw and fist both clenched forming a blood fist over his own. He then Jumped over the ribbon, rolling on the ground to recover and springing up aiming his fist at the solid image of Star's face, while the bloody fist changed directions and went to punch the after image. |
