Had he not been able to remember the date today he'd have said he was a bit too late for any kind of Christmas party. Well, good for him, he's not too late for anything. At least, when his parents told him they're gonna get themselves a train ride to Hyakuji just to visit him as his Christmas present did he remember it's the 25th of December. His parents (and his two elder siblings) managed to get themselves a couple of room at a hotel somewhere in the city for a few days lodging and Rei himself is going to be spending Christmas with them. Which he is doing right... now. Morning of Christmas, for the first time, he hasn't forgotten the time and place. "Merry Christmas everyone!" Came the booming voice of his now-working brother, steering his little brother Yuu Nagori into the room as he downed a bottle of orange juice he got from the vending machine at the ground floor of the hotel. He has a mature and handsome feature, long jet-black hair reaching to his shoulder, burly frame almost like a boxer. "I found little Yuu here sneaking around the kitchen for whatever reason..." He said with a laugh, patting Rei hard on the back as he shoved the smaller male into the room. "Yuu, what have I told you about walking around without permission?" Next was the stern voice of a female in an apron, walking into the living area with her hands on her hip, sporting an angry look on her face. Despite her somewhat unapproachable demeanor, there was no doubt that behind the mask of fury was a young adult of unrivaled beauty. Tall and slender, long fiery red hair that swished around silkily every time she moved, bright magenta eyes and smooth skin complexion. People kept on mistaking her as a model when she's just an ordinary college student, a few years below the bigger brother, Ken Nagori. "Really... what if you got lost... Ken spoils you too much..." Aria Nagori shook her head in exasperation, running a hand through her fiery red hair. "I'm fine, am I not? And for the last time, my name's Reika, not Yuu!" This time, Yuu, or Reika, as he likes to call himself, spoke up with indignation, stuffing his camera back into his bag as he set the bag onto a sofa, taking one annoyed look at his sister before scanning the room he was brought into. Just a typical room with two separate beds, a television set, a door that leads to the kitchen, a door that leads to the bathroom, a closet, do I have to list all of them? Something that's definitely not a regular of a typical hotel room though, is that there's a small Christmas tree standing there at the middle of the room, lightly decorated with thistles and bells and lights. They didn't go all out on it, he supposed. They can't really bring it back with them on the train, it would be too much trouble to pack a tree into the luggage when it's time to go home. "Where's mom and dad? I thought they'd be here?" "They're out getting some last minute Christmas present," Ken said in his loud booming voice, slumping on the sofa and dangerously close to sitting on and crushing Reika's bag, gulping down the last few drops of orange juice from the bottle before expertly tossing it into a trash bin across the room. "Score~" "Rather than lazing around, you should be helping me finish up this Christmas dinner," Aria said snappily at her yawning big brother, the ladle in her hand being whacked hard over his head (to which he simply ignored it). Seriously, their first family Christmas party with Rei and he's being nothing but a sloth... She gave a sigh of defeat after failing to convince her brother despite the continuous whack on the head with the ladle, and simply decided to just finish preparing everything by herself as she headed back to the kitchen. "Oh, by the way, Yuu?" "Not Yuu, Reika!" "Merry 17th Christmas~" She said with a warm sweet smile on her face, before continuing back to the kitchen. Welp. That was a long summary of what's supposed to happen. But you get the idea. |

“Thank you for your assistance,” Ecaterina replied in her usual firm cold monotone voice before snapping her mobile phone shut and pocketing it as she looked up at the building before her. “Interesting… A hotel, huh?” she mumbled to herself as she popped her jacket collar to prevent the cold wind from sending chills down her spine and walked towards the Hotel entrance. It was Christmas day and young Ecaerina Ichijo wasn’t doing anything in particular. Her grandfather had sent a car for her the previous day, hoping that she would want to be at home with him. He had also hoped that she would participate in the yearly Christmas party the old man held to strengthen contacts and network with people in different branches and businesses. To the white-haired girl those parties were the last place she wanted to be and so she was free with no obligations and commitments. This resulted in her of course requiring her servant, she wasn’t going to carry her shopping bags on her own, but when she couldn’t find him and he wasn’t answering the cellphone she had given him Ecaterina had called a detective, asking him to trace Rei's phone and get a location of his whereabouts. She hadn’t done that because she was worried, no, she wanted to scold him for once again, for the millionth time, disobeying her orders and either ignoring her calls or making himself unavailable despite that she had ordered him to always carry the cellphone with him and be at her beck and call. The fact that it was Christmas and that Rei might have plans didn’t even faze her. Ecaterina didn’t pay too much attention to the things he said and if she did it was only because it involved her, otherwise it went in through one ear and out the other. Upon entering the hotel Ecaterina could feel a slight tingling sensation of excitement: she had no idea why her servant was here but she was kind of hoping it involved kidnapping and murder. Taking the elevator up and making her way towards the room the detective had said she could find Rei, Ecaterina stood outside the door pressing her ear against it trying to distinguish muffled screams and cries. If the critter had been kidnapped then she would have loved to observe the happenings. She wasn’t afraid for her own safety, she had wings after all and could easily make her own escape, but it would be interesting to see her servant fend for himself and maybe, just maybe, if she felt merciful enough she would save him in the last minute. |

"Whoa-whoa! Okay, okay, I'm going! Just not the vacuum cleaner!" She would be able to hear a slight commotion from within the room as the whirring sound of a vacuum cleaner could be heard and the sound as though something fell to the ground with a loud thud, the sound of scrambling footsteps heading towards the door, a click as the doorknob was twisted from inside before the door was thrown open without a single consideration that someone might be leaning on the door. Standing at the doorway was the tall and burly brother of Rei, Ken, managing to stop himself just before he trampled over a certain pale girl in black. "Eh?" Without a thought of the consequences of his action Ken reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her up and dragged her into the room with a gleeful grin on his face, slamming the door shut behind him, locking it no less. "Yuu! I found your girlfriend!" You can definitely tell just how shocked the Rei who was sifting through the stuff in his bag was, by how he nearly dropped his beloved camera to the floor at the exclamation. "Wait, what?! I don't have any-" As the boy looked up from his tinkering he caught sight of the face he both fear and love at the same time. Of course, that's only if it was a normal circumstances but this is... like, way more than normal. "Wait... what? Eca-sama, what are you doing here?" "Ken, what are you doing, kidnapping someone again?!" Aria came from the kitchen, holding the ladle in her hand and staring at her big brother angrily, occasionally glancing at the girl in black he had 'kidnapped'. "Put her back where you picked her up!" She said, pointing at the door, talking as though Ecaterina wasn't even there. |

Ecaterina listened in closely, frowning at the mentioning of a vacuum cleaner. “What kind of torture method is tha-“ Suddenly the door opened up and the white haired girl fell forward, landing on the floor and right in front of Ken’s feet like she was kneeling. Such a disgraceful position! When Ecaterina tried to get up on her own she was instead pulled up from the floor like a ragdoll and pulled inside, the door slamming shut loudly behind her. Temporarily stunned she stood there, staring into the room, and realizing with disappointment that no kidnapping or murder was going on; Rei was standing there safe from harm and looking just as mindless as usual. When the man loudly yelled obscenities such as she being Rei’s girlfriend Ecaterina finally regained her senses and tore herself free from the older brothers grasp. “Don’t touch me, you brute!” the white haired girl snarled, wiping her hand on her black coat as if he had been dirty or infected with something she didn’t want to catch. Finishing wiping her hand Ecaterina straightened her back, lifting her nose slightly up in the air and looked at Reika. “Eca-sama?” she repeated with disbelief, giving him a killing gaze. When would he remember her rules??! “You useless critter. Rule number one: Do not, under any circumstances, call me by some ghastly nickname.” He truly was worthless. He and that good-for-nothing camera. When a young female came from the kitchen talking about kidnapping Ecaterina’s ears perked until she realized that she was the supposed victim. Hah! What a joke! “I beg your pardon?” she said haughtily while eyeing the woman, “You are mistaken. I am not kidnapped and no one is touching me without permission.” Deeming the conversation finished for the time being Ecaterina looked around before walking over to the couch, eyeing it suspiciously as if she was looking for signs of something unhygienic or dangerous before finally sitting down and unbuttoning her black coat. She didn’t have anything in particular to do so she might as well stay. While fishing up a small packet of wet-wipes and starting rubbing her hands clean, thinking that she still was dirty from Ken's touch, Ecaterina said, “Reika. Bring me a cup of tea, and make sure it is hot.” She looked up at her servant expectantly and then added, “Hurry along now.” Edited by Lelil, Jan 17 2012, 12:25 PM.

"One cup of hot tea coming up~" The boy said somewhat obediently, and he was getting ready to head off to the kitchen, somewhat following her orders like it was programmed into his brain or something. But before he could even take a step his path was blocked by his sister, looking somewhat miffed by the appearance of the unexpected 'guest'. "It's alright Yuu, you go and take a bath. Or something. I'll tend to our guest here," She said with a somewhat pleasant smile, shooing Rei to the bathroom despite his protest. But he's not gonna go against Aria. Reason will be shown soon enough. Once Rei was out of sight she turned around to Ecaterina. While the young woman was generally amiable and acceptable with guests, this girl however... Oh no. She doesn't like her. What is it with this girl ordering her oh so beloved cute little brother around like that. She moved over to the couch where Ecaterina was sitting, placing her hands on her hips with the ladle still in her grip, sporting a very stern look on her face as she leaned forward towards the girl in black, her lips pursed in disapproval. "Excuse me for saying this, but it would do everyone a great deal of favor if you do not act so rudely in other people's house," "Oh come on, what's the big deal. She's cute, ain't she?" The big brother said casually, walking out of the kitchen with another bottle of orange juice, taking a swig from it before giving a sigh of satisfaction. "Besides, from the looks of it she knows Yuu, so she can't be that bad, can she?" "I beg to differ," The young woman muttered snappily at her over-lenient brother, glaring at him with a look of deep annoyance. |

It was easy to figure out that they were all related, it was Christmas after all and they seemed close and had some features in common, besides there wasn’t a kidnapping going on so it had to be family. Ecaterina watched as the woman shooed away her servant, derailing him from his order, and promised to take care of their guest. For some reason that ticked her off. First of all; Rei was her servant and only she could boss him around, family or not, and for the second; she wanted her tea! Turning to the young woman, probably a sister or an aunt, Ecaterina stared back while listening to the complaint she had. Obviously the big brute was the more sensible one out of the two since he appreciated Ecaterina’s appearance, but still, it seemed like this family was made out of an insufferable bunch. The white haired girl had two options in dealing with this situation, she could either put on a cute act that matched her Lolita look, apologize over her previous behavior and act sweet and kind if not even a little ditzy. Or she would just be her usual cold, unsympathetic and egoistic self. Giving it a few seconds to think over Ecaterina finally decided on her move. Her usual self. This is Ecaterina Ichijo we are talking about after all and she never went out of her way for others, it was always the other way around. “Yes, don’t worry about… ‘Yuu’ you call him? Ah, am I right to assume you do not find the lovely petal name favorable? Honestly, that child has no dignity at all.” Ecaterina shook her head as if just the mentioning of Reika’s name brought on a stream of pitiable memories. “Yuu,” she stressed the name mockingly, “wouldn’t be 'socializing' with me unless he wanted to. I have no hold over him. He is doing it on his own accord.” Ecaterina smirked challenging. Actually that wasn’t true since the only reason why Rei was her servant was because she had threatened to destroy his precious camera. “Now, be a dear and fetch me some tea. Make sure it is hot.” |

Oh no you didn't. Others would probably have a little bit more tolerance for Ecaterina's attitude (though they probably would have been driven close to the edge by now) Aria was not as forgiving. The young woman took a sharp deep breath before swiftly raising her hand to pinch and pull Ecaterina's ear. Hard. "That attitude of yours needs fixing, and you need disciplining!" Welp, it's hard life having such a strict family member, thought Ken, who doesn't seem all too bothered about the shenanigan going on behind him. "Sorry Ojou-chan, I don't wanna mess with her when she's angry~" He said casually, turning on the television and acting as though he couldn't see whatever was going on. "I seriously wish what you said matches what you do..." Aria replied in exasperation at her lounging brother, her grip on Ecaterina unrelenting this whole time. Or at least, not until- "Alright, tea's ready!" Rei suddenly popped between the two, carrying with him cups of tea on a tray, prompting Aria to unconsciously release Ecaterina in surprise. "Eh- wait, Yuu, weren't you in the bathroom-" She said, a bit confused as she glanced back at the bathroom door that was supposedly locked from the outside. Why would there be a bathroom with a door that locks from the outside though, don't ask. "Here's your tea, Ojou-sama~" He said, setting a cup of steaming hot tea on the table, bowing to her once before turning to his elder siblings, immediately ushering them out. "Now why don't you two go get mom and dad, they wouldn't want to miss this," "W-wait, Yuu! Everything's not ready yet!" "Ohoo~? Don't do anything shady while we're gone~" There was enough time to see Ken being hit on the head with a ladle before the door was shut behind them, as Rei himself locked the two out of the room. |

While Ecaterina had no qualms about using violence it wasn’t everyday that someone thought about using it on her. Mostly because she was intimidating enough to keep people away or they simply became so frustrated that they lost patience and left her alone. It was because of that once in a blue moon occurrence, and the fact that she was a guest, that Ecaterina had her guard down just enough for Aria get close for an ‘attack’. Held by the ear like a disobedient child Ecaterina’s eyes widened and she gasped in horror of being in such a position before her own anger engulfed her and the shade of her eyes got a tad bit redder. A tad bit more menacing. Her wings, that had been held hidden so far, was just about to rip through her coat at the back and tear Aria away by the hair when Reika’s timely return occurred. Staring at her servant as he appeared between the two women, and started to fuss around with teacups, her rage was deflated just enough to keep her from attempting to beat Aria senseless with her wings. Thankfully the little critter ushered his siblings out and Ecaterina was for the first time very pleased with her servant, for once he had proven himself useful. Breathing somewhat heavily from the flare of anger the white-haired girl was still too upset to sit down and calmly drink her tea. With her arms crossed over her chest and a foot stomping rapidly the floor Ecaterina was fuming, glaring daggers at the door the siblings had been shoved through. Suddenly she threw her arms up in the air and burst out, “That imbecile! How dare she touch me?!” she started pacing around the room, gesticulating with her hands, “She attacked me! I asked for tea and that ignorant fool attacked me!” This was the first time that Reika saw Ecaterina visibly upset, usually she’d be cold and intimidating but now she was seething and loudly ranting while pacing around the living room. “Oh, I’ll show her! I’ll punish her for this transgression and make her wish she never crossed my path!” Had Ecaterina just gotten a nemesis? |

"I'd... rather not if that happened..." The photographer said with a nervous chuckle, not in the least bit worried about Aria's safety rather than Ecaterina's own. No, really. His sister was one of the reason why he never talks about that time at the zoo when he was eight years old... Ah well, at least he stopped the worse from happening. Not sure if he should tell Ecaterina what exactly made Aria so mad just now. "In any case Ojou-sama, what are you doing here?" The boy suddenly asked as a thought struck his mind. Considering its her there shouldn't be any real reason for her to wander around in such a cheap three-star hotel alone. I mean, she's a bourgeois, rich and powerful and probably could have anything she wants just by asking for it. ...But then again, he hadn't factored in her weird obsession with corpses and deaths... Besides, "It's Christmas, shouldn't you be spending this time with your family or something?" A truly innocent question just to satisfy his curiosity, nothing more, nothing less. |

Ecaterina continued to pace back and fort after throwing Reika a murderous glance. Of course he wouldn’t want his sister to be exposed by her wrath, but it still angered the white haired girl that her servant wasn’t siding with her. Wasn’t she supposed to be his top priority? He has sworn his loyalty to her, to serve and obey her, so shouldn’t she be his number one concern? Still fuming Ecaterina sat down on the couch in front of her cup of tea just as the critter questioned why she was there. Momentarily ignoring his question she lifted her teacup, inhaled the aroma and took a carful sip. “Hmm… you are getting better but it still isn’t how it is supposed to taste,” the spoiled girl noted and dismissed the cup as she put it back down and stared Reika directly in the eyes as his next question came. “Hah! Family!” she exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air and then hit her thighs with a loud smacking sound. Standing up again, pacing back and forth Ecaterina suddenly demanded, “Reika! Bring me the best bottle of wine available in this godforsaken hotel. I need something for my nerves,” she dug in her pockets and fished up one of her candy caramels and credit card and threw him both. It really was interesting how Aria’s action had shaken her so much, but Ecaterina really wasn’t used to someone ‘disciplining’ her that way, or in any other way at all to be honest! Ecaterina always got what she wanted and was always treated well, either because she was intimidating enough or because they knew what powerful family she belonged to. Surprising how the word 'family' got that much reaction from her compared to his other questions. The photographer was slightly taken aback as he was tossed the candy caramel and the credit card, nearly dropping it in his haste to catch it. Wait a second, wine? How old is she anyway? If he could remember it right the legal age for drinking in Japan is uh... 21? As much as he wanted to protest though he's not exactly sure if he wanted to have a taste of her wrath today. So without further ado the photographer went out of the room, saying, "Be back in thirty minutes!" Of course, he said thirty minutes, but surprisingly enough it took him less than five minutes to be back with a bottle of... pretty high-quality wine. Before he closed the door a momentary glimpse of Ken's face could be seen, giving Rei a wink before disappearing with a snap of the door. "Why would he have this ready...?" He still doesn't think she should be drinking it though. |

Ecaterina was muttering to herself, still pacing back and forth, complaining over the fact that she would have to wait 30 minutes. Why would it take so long time to get a bottle of wine from the bar? Stopping for a moment to glance around the white-haired girl sighed, “Honestly, these low-end hotels are terribly depressing, how can anyone stay here?” The lack of style and elegance was almost too much to bear for a hotel room and Ecaterina considered leaving it to look for her servant, although he came through the door just then after barely being gone for five minutes. Despite being surprised of seeing him so soon she was a little suspicious to why he was so fast. Did he say he would be gone for so long only to return quickly so that she would be happy with him and praise him? Well, if that was the plan then it worked. “Well done, critter. You have finally managed to impress me. The choice of keeping you around as my servant is slowly, but painfully, paying off. I wish to see more of this good behavior from now on.” Ecaterina took the bottle from Reika and removed the wrapping around the mouth of the bottle to expose the cork. Just as she did that one of her wings became larger and bent slightly over her shoulder. Without any hesitation she plucked a black feather and swiftly jabbed it into the cork. Twisting it and the bottle like an expert the familiar popping sound was soon heard and the wine bottle was now open to air. “Excellent. Now, Reika, go and fetch us wineglasses.” She wasn’t planning on get drunk. Honestly. She just wanted something to help take the edge off so that she could feel a little bit more relaxed. Especially after Arias attack but also the mentioning of family. It brought up too many memories and unanswered questions. It wasn’t exaggeration to say that her past had more than a few black holes in it. |

"I still want to know, why are you so upset when I said family?" Yeah well, he doesn't have the mentality of an obediently silent servant to know not to ask her of such question, seeing as he was initially blackmailed to be her servant. So whatever kind of curiosity that had been swimming around in his head came out without so much as a restraint. He really should know better than to ask that sort of thing, especially when it involves someone like Ecaterina here. The photographer returned from the kitchen, for once neglecting to bring his camera with him wherever he goes, assuming it's safe in a hotel room his siblings had booked. "If it's something that needs to be talked about, I'm here as your butler," He said, setting the wine glass on the table as he slowly poured the amber liquid into the glass. "A master's secret is safe with his butler, yes?" Not sure if there's really actually any secrets behind everything, but still. |

Ecaterina glared at her servant with fiery red eyes and took the wineglass from him before smacking his head with her one wing that was out. “I demand you stop spewing this nonsense, critter. I do not need a so called confidante to speak of emotions,” she stressed the last word making it sound like something vile and disgusting and then turned her back on him. Taking a sip of the wine she sat down on the couch with an inaudible sigh before taking another sip. It was a surprisingly good wine, there were of course better but she hadn’t expected the hotel to have something like this, especially after such a bad first impression of it. Leaning back against the couch, tilting her head back and looking up at the ceiling Ecaterina thought about what had pushed her to be acting this way. Arias surprise attack and reprimanding tone wasn’t something that had happened to her before. Even as a small child she was never disciplined, things were always dismissed and blamed on things like her fathers absence, her kidnapping as a child and then her mothers disappearance. Her mother… The white-haired girl closed her eyes as the as a memory of her mother flashed through her mind and she felt tears sting behind her eyes. Clearing her throat and taking a deep breath Ecaterina sat up straight, trying to regain an air of indifference and coldness as she sipped on her wine. After several minutes of silence, and as the wine worked through her system, the red-eyed girl finally admitted, “I have no family. All I have is an old man who does not have time for me and instead buys gifts to compensate for it.” The way she said it had been so dispassionate, as if it wasn’t her own life she was talking about but some movie or a book she didn’t care much for. Ecaterina turned her head and stared directly at Reika, “How about you, critter? What is your family like?” |

HOOKAY so asking her that WAS a bad idea after all. Though for some reason, as he massaged his thwacked head, he couldn't help but feel like she held back for a bit back there. Or at least, the intensity of it was somehow less than usual. He expected her to give him another half a dozen thwack for good measure. ...Not that he wanted her to, duh. Well. Being punished was only part of the reason why he regretted asking her about her family. Another is learning that she doesn't actually have any. "I... I see..." The photographer shifted awkwardly on the spot, scratching his cheek nervously as he glanced around for an escape route, and finding nothing. "Sorry..." And all this time he thought he had it bad. "Well... even if you ask me, I can't really say," He said with a sigh, walking behind the couch just to lean on it. "You know how does it feel when a group of people you don't recognize suddenly starts claiming to be your family?" |
